Demar Doston Lost With Knee Injury

August 15th, 2015

demar dotson 1216Late in the second quarter tonight, the complexion of the Buccaneers’ season changed.

Starting right tackle Demar Dotson needed a lot of help getting off the field and was carted back to the locker room. Teammates were offering their support, and Dotson’s left knee was the issue.

Joe’s got exclusive video of Dotson below:

Now what? The Bucs’ backup right tackle in training camp was Patrick Omameh, who started 16 games at right guard last year and promptly was told to change positions after the season.

Second-year man Kevin Pamphile plays right tackle, but he started at left tackle tonight, and rookie Donovan Smith didn’t look great when he came in for Pamphile with the second-team line.

Thankfully, the Bucs have first dibs on all NFL waiver claims. That means the Bucs can claim and keep any player that qualifies for waivers when he is cut later this summer. It’s not an ideal situation, but there will be good players out there. Joe highly would recommend a new backup center, too. (More on that later.)

Sprained MCL, they are doing MRI to find out if there is more damage. Could be 3-5 weeks or worse from initial reports.

Gilkey looked like he should be flipping burgers or greeting shoppers at Wal-mart…

  3. Lakeland Buc Says:

Why was Dotson even in the game?. They should give Edawn Coughman a shot at RT. He can’t do any worse than the rest of them.

I was worried about playing on turf…that someone would get hurt…yeah good to see him walk off…hopefully nothing torn…..if its 3-5 looks like week three return? dotson wasn’t horrible last year so it stings a little.

Gilkey can check the shoppers cart on the way out of Walmart. LOL

Glad the first game over, man, Jameis was having to worry over so much–difficult enough being first game without the ball getting snapped over his head, that was ridiculous. He made some decent passes to Evans and VJ that were not caught that he gets no credit for. Glennon–something about the guy says I will throw it but no matter what: I will not and cannot win for any reason, I am backup only and offer NO hope of a win. I actually had hope when Seth came in then he started grounding the ball–it was as if the ball was greasy or something.I was hoping the defense would score. Done–best is in the future!

Is Jake Long still available? I’d normally be against it but its dry as a desert out there for available tackles worth a shot.

  7. LargoBuc Says:

Pamphile looked decent at left. I was surprised. Smith, however, did not. No way did he look ready to play left tackle. I would put Pamphile at left. Smith at right. Only thing is starting two rookies on one side is not ideal. But its just how it goes sometimes.

  8. DayOnePaul Says:

I’ve hesitated to throw Gilkey under the bus all along. SOMEBODY who judges NFL talent thinks this guy brings something. At first, I wasn’t sure that Warhop wasn’t the problem. Then last year’s lack of an Offensive Coordinator. I suppose an Offensive Line isn’t supposed to look All-World in the first pre-season game. But on a line that looked from mediocre to poor last night, Gilkey jumped off the screen as the most inept of the group. It wasn’t until Warren came in in the fourth quarter that the bloodletting stopped. Gilkey’s gotta go.

  9. Joe McGeehan Says:

Why aren’t the offensive lineman wearing knee braces? The new titanium braces weigh practically nothing and would have, very likely, prevented this injury. They also help to prevent injury from getting “rolled up” at the line of scrimmage.

What’s sick is what happens to Dotson’s money? He was all but promised a contract extension that would have paid him commensurate to his talent and contribution. What happens now. Did poor Demar just hit the opposite of the lottery or will the Bucs give him a chance to come back at the new money?
