Bucs rookie guard Ali Marpet is listed as a backup to Garrett Gilkey

This is for the lunatics that love sitting down with a giant plate of Hooters wings and dissecting the Buccaneers’ first depth chart of the preseason as if it were a recovered ancient biblical text.

Joe thinks these folks are a bit out there, but here are some highlights:

*At left tackle, Donovan Smith’s name is listed first but shown as a shared first-teamer with Kevin Pamphile. Joe’s never seen that before.

*Garrett Gilkey is your first-team right guard, with Ali Marpet behind him.

*Kenny Bell is behind rookies Kaelin Clay and Donteea Dye on the receivers depth chart.

*Tim Wright is your No. 3 tight end, behind Austin Seferian-Jenkins and Brandon Myers.

*Bradley McDougald and Major Wright are your starting safeties.

*And yes, for the Mike Glennon Mob, No. 8 is the Bucs’ No. 2.

Keep in mind the depth chart comes out today as part of the Bucs’ media commitment in advance of Saturday’s preseason opener in Minnesota.

Mg8 on the 2nd string team. Just where he belongs

  2. Mike10 Says:

Alright I like Marpet as second string, although he may have the best potential, in the best interests of his development. But I have a hard time believing the majority of what’s listed here as being gospel – looks more like Lovie is conveying messages to certain players:

-Stocker: it’s time to put up, or pack
-Kenny Bell: keep working hard, I’m not gift wrapping you the slot receiver role
-Kevin Pamphile: suck less, sooner than later
-Donovan Smith: try to figure it out quickly – the quicker u take the starting gig the better.
-JD Swearinger: You got a sense of entitlement in HOU; earn ur spot but realize we will move on without u…

.. now, all i need is more sauce for these wings

  3. D-Rome Says:

I’m stunned Gilkey still has a job.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I guess there could be some messages being sent…..or….it’s simply early and coaches truly don’t know….and there is probably a very thin line with some of these players…
I’d like to know where Herron, L. Johnson, M. Jenkins & Edwards are on the chart.

  5. Couch Fan Says:

Is Incompetent Lovie still 1st string coach?

  6. Another J Says:

Gilkey could the cause of an ulcer or two.

  7. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    Marpet was a mistaket.

  8. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

Hey Joe, according to the one I see on the bucs official website you listed a few things incorrectly

Tim Wright is actually behind ASJ, Brandon Myers, AND Luck Stocker, listed as the 4th TE,

Kenny Bell is not listed behind Kaelin Clay and Donteea Dyee, but behind Luis murphy and russell shepard

  9. Yungry Says:

Mike Glennon rules! Gilkey should be in the Arena League playing for the Storm

  10. Tnew Says:

I’m breaking my year long self imposed suspension to jbf to ask the question. How valuable would mg8 be to the Jets today? Can we get a second?

  11. Capt.Tim Says:

Gilkey was a shining bright spot on the line at Guard last year- until they played him at a position he had Never played(Jameis! Jameis!)
Gillkey was the one young guy, who showed some potential.

As a Side note- i have found the answer to our prayers! I have found a defensive player- who drop a QB!

His name IK ene . . Something. Gotta move quick, though! Jets just cut him!!

  12. Yungry Says:

IK needs to come here and be a disciplinarian… He can throw a left hook on Gilkey and help clean up shop.

  13. Destinjohnny Says:

we still haven’t replaced d penn sadly enough

  14. Capt.Tim Says:

Always sad to see a Good Southern Qb go to wacky Big northern cities.
    They break their own QBs!
    Who does That???

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

First Depth Chart is just to send messages.
That one around preseason game 4 will get my attention . .

The Hebrew Hammer and the Ginger Giant battling it out!!
One starts now, one starts next year- if Mankins hangs it up!

Although i Hope Mankins keeps grilling these kids for another coupla years!!
    (Grilling- hehehe)

  16. Buccfan37 Says:

At least there is more than one string of players.

  17. Abdominal Snowman Says:

Marpet a mistake? I hope you mean on the depth chart and not in the draft.

Bell is definitely getting a message sent to him to earn it. I mean really he is behind a guy who hasn’t even played all of training camp?

Wright…well i’m sure we’re just waiting to trade him and a 4th for some veteran lineman.

I’m really rooting for that Gilkey kid, from what i hear he is working his butt off and if he proves to be a decent player will provide us with a little depth on the o-line.

  18. Fsuking Says:

    Capt. Tim,
Are you referencing the game where the Bucs started with a rotation of Gilkey and Omameh at RG only to scrap that 4 plays in after Gilkey got destroyed (2 ugly holding penalties and an awful run block). He did the same thing in Cleveland, being benched after 14 plays against Suh for basically not blocking him one time, and he was the backup in that game. There are so many feel good stories about Gilkey but not a single one is related to a football game.

  19. vegabuc Says:

    Mongo Mongo Mongo!!!

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Seemed like Gilkey was with the 2s most of the day from what I saw at practice.
Wright and McDougald were at safety with the 1s. Verner and Banks at the corners and LJ covering the slot in Nickle.

  21. BuccaneEric75 Says:

This depth chart is for motivation. Nothing more.

  22. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

    Welcome back Tnew.

  23. Capt.Tim Says:

Fsuking- Gilkey played in every game last year, and started onone.
You can verify that on the Buc site. Pleenty of chances to watch him.
And hes better than you think- wait and see
