Bond Between Jameis, ASJ

On-field bond forming between “America’s Quarterback” and Austin Seferian-Jenkins?

Joe is not trying to read much into the first Bucs training camp practice last night at the University of South Florida; underwear football throughout.

Plus, add rain and the uber quick tempo early, and Joe will safely suggest what was seen is not the norm.

The way the ball bounced more than a pick-up basketball game, Joe sure hopes that is the case.

One thing did stick out: It sure seems like “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, loves to throw the ball to tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Perhaps it’s because the two are tight off the field?

For those who monitor social media, it is not unusual for Jameis or ASJ to post an Instagram picture of them together. Joe’s favorite was when Jameis and ASJ were in Dick Vitale’s luxury box at the Ice Palace during the Lighting’s Stanley Cup Finals run.

ASJ has stated he has known Jameis since the two met at a college football awards event. Jameis confessed that of all his teammates, he is likely closer to ASJ off the field than anyone.

Last night after practice, Joe asked ASJ if his camaraderie with Jameis is translating to the field. ASJ didn’t deny it.

“Yeah, we are getting to it,” ASJ said. “And each day we will keep getting better. Our goal is to get better every day.”

So this is something for fans to monitor during training camp (if the fans ever get to see one — it’s raining again). Bucs offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter likes to utilize the tight end and, apparently, Jameis likes throwing to the tight end, specifically ASJ.

Success at that ought to open up Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson a little, as well, not that they need much help.

This is awesome. If ASJ can stay healthy, he has the talent to be a top 10 – top 5 TE. Hopefully he can build just as strong a bond with ME13.

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

Schiano should come into camp to teach ASJ some ball security

As an old dinosaur of journalism I’m intrigued by what the internet has wrought.

In some cases it’s not all that pleasing. Yet in others it’s a wonderful addition.

This story is an example of thorough journalism! Kudos to you guys! Specifically it told me of that off field bond and relayed social media info that I simply would not have time to keep up with. I have a life!!! LMAO Your lives are Bucs football and so I appreciate you sharing those “out of the box”tidbits. Helps us connect the dots early.

Prediction. By midseason, barring injury, these two will be getting lots of pub around the league. The story you have just posted will then be “broken” by BSPN. LOL

@Joe..I read somewhere that the practice rime has been changed from 4:30 to around 2:30 again today. Is that true. I like to keep an eye on the radar.

Where is “somewhere?” Got a link? Joe hasn’t been notified by the Bucs about this. In fact, 20 minutes ago Joe was told practice still holding at 4:30 p.m.

Good Dude, Great Run Stopping DT

Simple now reason, not to sign DT Tony McDaniel

He would be a beast in our rotation.

  7. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    C’mon Licht Sign McDaniel’s

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Okay I could have sworn I saw it somewhere last night. Perhaps I have to look around to where I read it.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

PR’s saying practice has been changed to 5 PM now. Just a heads up.

    @ LUVMYBUCS
I agree, and cut Bowers loose again in the process.

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Yeah I think I read the 2:30 time last night on PR, obviously they or I were wrong.

Dude is a great Locker room guy, a leader. He’s been one of the best run stopping (Top 5) Tackles in the league- over the last 4yrs.

    Plus
-He grew up as a BUCS fan,
-His sister was a cheerleader last year.
-His Best Friend (Clint) currently plays for the us

    Let see what happens.

  13. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Why the moderation Joe- No links or curse words.

  14. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Joe’s

I’ll take it to the message board, meant no disrespect.

Jameis has a bond with ASJ, ME13, VJax, Bell, Clay, Herron, Sheperd, Sims, Martin, Rainey, James, Lane…..Dotson, Mankins, D. Smith, Marpet, Wright, Stocker, Myers…..and everyone on the team except the other guy who touches the ball on every offensive play.
Jameis also has a bond with Joe, 87, Pablo & the Tampa Tribune, FOX13, New York Times, ESPN & The NFL Network & Al Jazeera….because….you guessed it….Jameis is “America’s QB”

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    LOL TBBF!

  17. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

No surprise here Jamies had a nack for finding O’leary at the most opportune times during his time in Tally. Quite naturally I would expect the same between he an ASJ.

  18. MAYNE ONE Says:

Just imagine if Wright and Winston form great chemistry too our offense is gonna be Top Notch. 11 or more wins lets go Bucs.

  19. Mo_Downs Says:

ASJ will develop into an “acceptable”, not great, target for the Bucs offense. I’m not sure if his injury history and questionable hands when catching in traffic or less than perfect weather will be eliminated through reps. For ASJ, staying on the field is a good first step. Let’s hope that all the off season training will allow him to stay healthy and reach his potential.

That said, I think that Koetter will put all of Jameis’ weapons in a position to succeed. I like reading about our OC putting VJax in the slot and splitting the TE’s and/or RB’s out wide in multi-receiver spread sets.

This is going to be a fun season. Win or lose, it’s going to be entertaining.

    Go Bucs…!!!

    Thanks.

    1987:

You might want to quit quoting PR. Practice is at 4:30 p.m. (currently), and Joe is in the media workroom at One Buc Palace as he is typing this. The Bucs have not sent out any notifications/bulletins/updates about a time change (yet).

  21. Buc1987 Says:

LOL Joe…I’m just telling you that they have a Breaking News thingy across the top of their page saying it’s 5 PM. Now I see that it disappeared again.

Those guys are morons over there no wonder why I never go there. I even have to use google search to get on there as I took them out of my fav’s along time ago.

The radar looks pretty clear right now. Let’s hope they don’t have to deal with rain 2 days in a row. Even though Joe likes them in the rain. lol

  22. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

This article has me excited. If these two can be the tamdem they are capable of that would be awesome!

  23. SteveO Says:

Joe, bucs1987: why all the pettiness toward PR? I get it you guys are competing for the same traffic, but maybe it’d be wise to show a little more class by avoiding side swipes in the comments sections for all to bear? For the record I think both are fine, they each just have their own unique styles. One is a more traditional form of journalism whereas the other is simply shiitty internet blog! (as if you weren’t going to mod this comment anyway)
