Lovie Talks “Super Bowl” To Rookies; Jameis Says He Has “Butterflies”

July 28th, 2015

lovie and jameisYes, Joe is in Tampa watching Buccaneers rookies bowling with Tampa firefighters.

And the rookies are talking.

Ali Marpet was also sweating profusely, seemingly a bit nervous in a well air conditioned room with reporters.

Anyway, one interesting nugget came from wide receiver Kenny Bell, who explained that Lovie Smith talked to the rookies about playing in the Super Bowl this season.

It’s a great day for the optimists! Remember, folks, it’s been a week since Joe reported that the Bucs, under Lovie’s orders, are California Dreamin’.

Jameis was not sweating with reporters, of course. Joe asked America’s Quarterback how he felt when Lovie talked Super Bowl, and Jameis, touching his stomach, said that’s “the dream,” and “it gives me butterflies.”

I don’t see my post —– All the above sounds great. off topic —- does anybody know if the larry brown site is legit or a BS site? I read on there that Gallete is set to sign with a division rival of the saints, possibly the bucs. Does anybody know anything about the Larry brown sports site?

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Lovie needs to figure out how to win 1 home game before he starts talking super bowls. Players will see through that rah rah bs.

  3. Pickgrin Says:

Jameis said he wants to play in the Super Bowl this year before we even drafted him.

Vegas says the odds are long – but stranger things have happened.

I like that Lovie is making a point to remind his players that this is the goal and that it is possible.

Superbowl here we come, in memory of pink unicorns and multicolor rainbows.

@tmaxcon “Players will see through that rah rah bs.”

Show me a coach who says “Guys, I’m confident that we can improve to 3-13 this season” and I’ll show you a coach who’ll be looking for a job next season.

Losing attitudes are unacceptable to the guys who make their living at the ‘game’ of football. Or any other sport. Or any other profession for that matter. If you don’t have a winner’s mindset, you’ll never win.

Jameis will have some growing pains like every rookie does, but he’s got a winner’s mindset and that’ll take him a long, long way. And hopefully the Buccaneers with him.

I agree you at least have to believe you have a shot if you work really really hard at it. It would be crazy to just play to not be embarrassed.
I am stoked that a) they think it can happen b) JW is working hard to give them a fighting chance.

What more can we ask for today?

  7. bucsbedabest Says:

Jameis Winston and Donovan Smith both talked about the Super Bowl on draft day and I a glad to hear Lovie is doing the same now. This is a very good team. I can’t wait for the season to begin.

  8. Eric Says:

Gruden said it every year. Most every coach does I think.

    In their DNA.

  9. Pickgrin Says:

7-8-1 won the division last year.

All you have to do is make the playoffs and then anything can happen. A team that peaks and gets hot in Dec>January has a legit chance to go all the way -as long as they qualify for the playoffs. The 2010 Packers can tell ya…

Man I love this pic, will prove to be an extensive bond between these two men. I’m confused though,I recall months ago people complaining about Lovie not caring about offense. He gose and draft all offense last two draft(I know about Alexander)not to mention hired a qualified OC in Koetter. Then it became his two scheme is outdated. But the hawks,Panthers, falcons, cowboys will all be running it. And save that cover3 chit if those two corners never move cover2 scheme it is. Now folks wanna say his defense is too passive. Hmmm,I recall Dashon Goldson saying Lovie Smith is the most aggressive coach he’s ever played for. All I’m saying is make up your mind as to what you wanna complain about when it comes to my head coach Lovie Smith. Side note”he’s know second coming” neither was Belichek before Brady.

Someone just sent me an autographed picture of Jon Gruden holding up the SB trophy and I have no idea who it was. Could have been my mom. But my B-day is 2 months away….

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

Noleonsatbuconsunday- It’s not the system I have a issue with its Lovies inability to adapt his system to his players. He had the best man CB in the league and released him cus he didn’t fit. Then his front 4 failed to generate a rush and he failed to adapt and blitz Lavonte David, who was a effective blitzing lb under Schiano.

Those other teams you mentioned mix up their coverages and use cover 2 & 3 but also are aggressive. Dashing may say he’s agressive but the way his scheme is run says otherwise.

Lovie has a lot to prove this year.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

I hope it wasn’t Erik the cleaning guy, thinking the picture is good enough instead of the JW jersey.

I can’t think of anyone that has my address that would send the thing. Mom already confirmed that she didn’t send it.

Oh well. Perhaps I need to hire a detective.

  14. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Tampa Tony this is my theory and I’ve made it perfectly clear I’m of the belief that we were tanking last season. Now if my assumption was wrong it will clearly show this season. My thinking is if we’re not trying to really win games then why would I be sending exotic blitz packages. I think if some of you can give the man one more season you’ll see some of what you complain about him not doing last season. I mean I rather you know exactly what you are doing before I put more on you work load bro.

  15. BuccaneEric75 Says:

That’s funny 87, I was going to say it was from Erik from DirtyHGHFilledAthletics!

  16. Tampa Tony Says:

@nole- I hope you are right. But as a season ticket holder I’d be pissed since I was paying for games they tanked purposely.

I’m hoping I’m wrong about Lovie. As I’m sick of the losing

  17. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

You won’t be sick for much longer bro. Not much longer.

  18. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I’m not in the camp that believes the Bucs tanked last season for Fameis.
I do have to admit however that the FINAL game certainly appeared to be a tank job. But nothing was on the line at that point except for Fameis.

If we were tanking we did an awful job of it! We lost a half dozen games by a single score. If we were tanking we came very close to blowing it.

“Players will see through that rah rah bs.”

Still lacking context eh? If Raheem Morris goes rah rah yeah the players may not react. He was a kid the same age as the players with zero experience.

Lovie can look any player in the eye when he talks about the SB and say I KNOW I’VE BEEN THERE. SCOREBOARD tmax. Lovie is old enough, experienced enough, and yes successful enough to get respect from his players.

Seriously does anybody believe Lovie lost this team last year? They played so hard to the final game that he had to bench some starters to insure that loss against the Aints.

  19. Buccfan37 Says:

87.. That sounds like a whodunit case ready made for the Pink Panther.

  20. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Hmm,interesting… So Lovie Smith meets with his rookies and the first thing he does is mention playing in this year’s Superbowl. Fascinating, number 1 that doesn’t sound like the talk of a head coach who is feeling a warm seat. Number 2 expectations for this up coming season must be a hell out a lot more lofty then those of many posters on this particular site. Y’all better start thinking bigger people.

  21. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Nole on Sat.

I’m thinking 10-6 and one and done in the playoffs. Then next year we draft that stud DE or perhaps even two of them and fill in some holes and we’ll truly be SB contenders.

Having said that I wouldn’t be shocked if we made it to the SB but that would require career years out of many players and the best rookie performance since Andrew Luck. Not impossible but quite the challenge. 10 wins are doable!!!

  22. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Dooable indeed good sir. The Bay about to shake up the world St.Pete. remember my words. “Shake up the world”.
