A Winning Threesome & Jameis Winston

July 17th, 2015

Jameis WinstonYes, the Buccaneers and Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, have a steep uphill climb this season.

Despite the enormous potential of Winston, his division counterparts all have winning records against NFC South opponents. Think about that.

The stat is correct. Scary numbers for Bucs fans. Cam Newton, Matt Ryan and Drew Brees all have winning records against division opponents. That’s how good those dudes are in the games that mean the most.

It also illustrates how dreadful the Bucs have been. Heck, through the last two seasons, Panthers backup Derek Anderson has more division wins than Tampa Bay does.

Brees leads the way with a 33-20 record against NFC South clubs.

Teams with the fourth-best quarterback in their division don’t make the playoffs. Jameis not only has a rookie-starter challenge on his hands, he’s battling the math gods, as well.

I can live without the playoffs as long as the team shows improvement and Winston shows his potential. I’m hoping for a playoff run in 2016.

I really think Winston will be the 2nd best QB in the NFC South as a rookie just behind Brees. I still think Newton is a little gimmicky and Ryan is a solid QB but more a product of talent around him in the past. He was not lights out last year, of course non of the QB’s in the NFC South were very great last year, so Winston could even finish his rookie season with better stats than the rest. It is not impossible. I try to be realistic and the Bucs have to prove it on the field, but I have a good feeling about the future in spite of Lovie.

  3. Buc1987 Says:

Jameis wants to be in the HOF some day.

    That’s all I got for ya….

  4. BucFan20 Says:

And now for the next story. Cheap shots on a QB. He has not even played and the excuses keep building and flying.

  5. Ray Rice Says:

THE MESSIAH will make this franchise a winner. Period!

Agree with your take. I’m optimistic as well and feel 10-6 is absolutely doable.

Our division has sucked for awhile now. Any QB who doesn’t suck should have a winning record in our division. Sadly our QB’s have sucked.

Brees is getting older and has lost his top target. Newton is inconsistent but is certainly capable of a big game. Matty Ice is currently the best of the 3 IMHO because of Brees age and the team around him. I’m more frightened of Atlanta than N.O. or Carolina. The latter two will be OK but not great….Atlanta could suck or be very good…just like us!

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m still thinking Carolina edges out the rest of the division foes. The other three including our Bucs fight for second place. I think the Bucs will beat each of the division foes once, that’s a better record right there, the other wins will be the push to reach for .500.

  8. BlogTalkFootball Says:

I love the fact that every NFL gooroo puts the Bucs in last place in our division! How many wins will we need to have everyone talking about the “sleeper” Buccaneers?

  9. Idontwannahearitanymore Says:

After watching training camp and the pre-season games, I fear that we’ll win only three games this year.

Oh, I’m getting ahead of myself!

  10. Buc1987 Says:

^^ yep but some on this site think they will win the NFC south. From 2-14 to a division crown. I don;t know what they are looking at, but damn sure hope they’re right.

I say 6 wins as of right now. Pre-season might bump it up to a 7 or 8 win prediction.

BlogTalkFootball….it will take 4 and 2 right out the gate.

Joe……for a guy who’s already been accused of sexual misconduct, you might want to refrain from headlines that contain the words “Jameis Winston” and “Threesome”.

  13. Pick6 Says:

yikes. mathematically, i think the only way 3 entrenched starters can have winning records in a 4 team division is if all 3 of them pummel the 4th year in year out. hooray for bucs fans

The 2015 NFC South Champions the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  18. Dreambig Says:

ok un-trUth, I’ll bite. You must be from some country where dictators rule. Or maybe your a aspiring to be a member of ISIS. Just so you know, this is America, and us American’s don’t play that sh*t. You actually have to be charged with a crime and convicted of said crime to be put in jail. Mike Glennon, your team leader, is an American as well and I bet he thinks you are a jerk too!

  19. trUth Says:

I am pretty sure in America its illegal to steal crab legs and soda. Its called stealing… Most people that steal go to jail, but he is the exception due to his fame in the Panhandle… You’re welcome for the lesson today…

  20. Vic Says:

@trUth — Actually (and thankfully) we don’t jail 95 percent of those who soda and a few pounds of low grade crab. They pay a fine and make restitution.

  21. trUth Says:

    that’s the trUth…Go Bucs!

  22. Fsuking Says:

    trUth- u speak no truth

  23. Buc1987 Says:

The trUth is you need to be drug tested…

  24. trUth Says:

    87,

where’s my jersey at? I told U they would select Winston and you swore it was Marcus… I want the red one #13 because I won’t wear a thief’s name on my back

  25. Mo_Downs Says:

I hate to be “THAT GUY” and spoil all these QB fantasy wet dreams, but the team with the best DEFENSE will win the division. It’s nice to talk about which QB is better but it’s hard to be the best QB when you’re watching the game on your back.

Rookie QB’s need time to adjust to the demands of the position and the dependability of their OL, WR’s, RB’s and TE’s in clutch situations. That automatically eliminates Jameis from consideration for best QB.

    Let’s keep it real, OK..??

The QB issue can be settled pretty easily if the quality of the divisional teams OL’s are taken into consideration. Next would be the quality of the RB’s. Then WR’s and TE’s. That’s 4 areas of strength to measure that will tell you how successful any QB will be on any given Sunday. This isn’t brain surgery.

ATC, Carolina seems to always have a good running game and the best defense. Everyone else is playing for 2nd. If I’m being really optimistic then the Bucs D will place 3rd in the division. There are just too many unknowns on their defense, beyond McCoy and David, for me to say otherwise.

So, while Jameis will put in the “hard work” to earn the start, there are too many unknowns along the OL to predict the running game or passing game. Is it just me or are ALL the starters on our offense (WR1,WR2,TE1, TE2, HB and FB)…. SLOW?

Are we really going to run a 4WR spread the majority of the time to get the speed guys in the game? OK, then who is going to protect Jameis for 3 sec…???

Let’s be clear, there is only so much an OC can do to work around poor blocking. Ask Mike Martz or Mike Tice why they coached league leading offenses, until they became OC for the Bears.

  26. tampa2bucsforever Says:

The Winstonless Buccaneers spanked the Saints in the final game of the season 20-7 until Lovie remembered that he had to lose. He then pulled his starters, except for his secret weapon McClown. The first game vs the Aints we were up by 11 points in the 4th before Lovie had a team meeting explaining that if they did not lose they would not get Jameis. Both of the games vs the Panthers were close games and could have gone either way if not for the tank for Jameis. Now the Falcons is another story. We pretty much had our backsides handed to us both times. Enter Captain Dirk Koetter of the Starship Jameisprize. He knows how the Falcons can play. He knows there weak spots. He was 5-0 in the conf last year. What does this mean? Seik Heil Jameis. To those who mock our franchise QB for mere crab legs I say unto you, ceab legs for free are better than crab legs at a buck fifty a pound!

  27. drdneast Says:

Newton had had a 5-9 record last year as a starter. Derek Anderson is a better pocket passer.
So why all the platitudes for him? Because he is athletic and can run.
But when he runs he gets hit and gets injured and misses games.
The guy is an average passer at best and stinks with the long ball. Look it up.
The Panthers structured his contract so if they want to dump him it won’t hurt them a bit cap wise much like the Daryle Revis’ deal.
    What does that tell you.
Keep Newton bottled up in the pocket and he turns into less than an average QB.

  28. BoltIsle Says:

Obviously, truth doesn’t truly understand the legal system. If so, he would know, Jameis did reconcile the crab case in the courts and paid his debt to society for it.
That said, I’d be bitter too if my team lost to Georgia Southern at home and blocked each other out of a win.
Like they say, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction.
