“Oh, He’s Handling It Great”

Mike Evans has an interesting perspective. Two of his last three quarterbacks won the Heisman Trophy.

Johnny Football captivated the nation with Houdini acts and the ability to put a football team square on his back and carry it to success not experienced in decades.

The other pretty much did the same thing. Playing with a much more talented team, Jameis Winston, too, became a household name. He is after all “America’s Quarterback.” Jameis lost but one game in college, leading the Seminoles to a national championship as a redshirt freshman. His ability to rally his team week after week after week in the second half was spellbinding, must-see TV.

Now one could argue that Johnny Football failed being a celebrity under the klieglights of national media outlets. But Jameis?

Evans claims Jameis is doing a bang up job being the focus of so much attention and notoriety.

“Oh, he’s handling it great,” Evans said on “Late Hits” co-hosted by Alex Marvez and Bill Polian and heard exclusively on SiriusXM NFL Radio last week. “He is keeping to himself. He is just working hard. He is worried about football. That is his main goal right now, worrying about football. He is not worried about the naysayers or the media. He is worried about his teammates. He has been a great teammate so far.”

That’s the first thing Jameis needs to do: Worry about the task at hand, which is football. Joe isn’t sure Jameis wants to be a national celebrity, but he is. Joe does know Jameis wants to be great, and great among quarterbacks; celebrity is a byproduct.

If for some reason Jameis wants to be a celebrity – he sure doesn’t wince at the attention – then building that football foundation will go a long way. Oh, and winning playoff games will, too. That has been awful rare about these parts for too long.

He’s the #1 draft pick QUARTERBACK of the team featured here. What’s the problem?

Obviously you are not enamored with all the attention Joe has given to Winston. So who’s making you read Joebucsfan?

  5. WS99 Says:

Let’s see if he goes on vacation or if he buries himself in the playbook and in workouts for the next 6 weeks or so. hey, somebody has to win ROY why not you jaboo? Somebody as to win the NFCS, why not us? Somebody has to f-I mean-love Rachel Watson why not Joe?

    If we gonna do it…

    We do it big then.

maybe he’s just smart enough to know that you be celebrity for all the wrong reasons like johnny football who was just honestly being himself. this entire team is talked down about even it’s own fans so his celebrity status will truly come from winning and when that starts then you judge his personality on how he’s handling the attention not in camp where he has a name tag on his helmet

I know the joes have to stand out from other Bucs bloggers and sites but whatever happened to a player earning a nickname? Americas QB? Not even close, maybe next time Joes.

  9. WS99 Says:

Go home Tampa Tony you’re drunk! The Savior, the Messiah, America’s QB, Mr. Krabbs, The Choosen One can take any name he’d like. He can also heal lepers and suckitidous which we are in desperate need of healing. So go back to the Titans blog you you you communist. Lmao jk

  10. Tampa Tony Says:

Ws99- I wish I was drunk. Maybe the alcohol would make it easier to have Lovie as the coach with this offensive line

man you sound just like I do when it comes to Lovie. I just don’t understand how anyone can receive a free pass for so long with such a mediocre to bad record… hell, lovie has only won 3 playoff games in ten years and some of these fools act like he is vince lombardi. Also some of the folks around these parts don’t accept that the object is to win the freaking game not turn in a top ten defense and be happy about losing.. Lovie is a fool and the bucs will go nowhere until he is gone.

Sarcasm: a method of poking fun at people who don’t understand sarcasm.

America’s QB is Joe’s way of poking fun at the national (haters) media’s treatment of Jameis!

Not really. Joe has explained this before: No quarterback moves the needle like Jameis. Maybe Tom Brady. Maybe. Hell, Jameis doesn’t even have to do anything or say anything and social media blows up, and the MSM freaks out (Bowden comment). Dude can’t leave his apartment and photos of him go viral on the net (Blue Martini). It’s unreal.

Go to a bar outside of Florida and drop his name. People go nuts, and not in a good way. Joe has never seen anything like it. Jameis has captivated America. He’s the greatest villain in the NFL.

  15. Firethecannons Says:

Joe we all know that was you waiting for Jameis outside his apartment
