Jameis And The Arrow

June 16th, 2015

Chemistry is flowing between Jameis Winston and Bucs veterans.

Joe captured a telling moment today at One Buc Palace, a gesture from Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, that sparked a response from Vincent Jackson — and conjured memories of a beloved former Tampa Bay figure.

After throwing a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tavarres King in practice this afternoon, Jameis reared his right arm back, pointed the other arm in the air, and fired an invisible arrow. It was right out of the Fernando Rodney playbook.

But it wasn’t good enough.

Typically reserved Vincent Jackson, who wasn’t playing with the backups Jameis was running with, hustled over and tapped Jameis on the shoulder. For a moment Joe thought V-Jax was going to tell Jameis to dial back the celebration. But V-Jax actually began instructing Jameis on pulling the mythical arrow out of a pretend sack on his back.

The two worked on the choreography for a bit and got back to business.

Yes, young Jameis is very well accepted by the veterans on this team, even the conservative, quiet old vets like V-Jax.

Of course, Joe asked Jameis about this after practice.

“You know, we just were having fun, man. You know, when it’s hot like this, you know, guys tend to be down,” Jameis said. So you got to lift them up and have some fun. I put the arrow out, when you throw a strike. The quarterbacks was on fire today.”

Oh yeah! Put an arrow right into Superman chest during a stinking panthers game, Jameis!

These are the best types of articles Joe, like the ones telling about the Jameis (Glennon?) gassers with the o-line. Love hearing about the team gelling together, great stuff

Indoor practice facility. Practicing in that heat is inhumane. Last thing you want is for someone to end up in the hospital with a serious issue, oops too late.

All these injuries every year, I used to blame the trainers but it’s obviously this fckn heat. I hear the amiley arena is empty, lol, too soon?

Take caution in your tone commander. I’m a fair guy but this heat is making me fckn crazy.

Just saw that on NFL Network.. A little later, they showed Lovie getting ‘testy’ when asked about why Jameis wasnt with the ones.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo isn’t one of those sensitive PC types…..who whine and cry everytime someone makes a comment or gesture…..Pablo loves all of his brothers….brown, red, yellow, black and white. Pablo thinks the arrow gesture and the Redskins nickname are A-OK!!!”

An indoor practice facility is too logical due to severe heat and storms in Tampa. That is why unless it ever becomes mandated by a CBA, it will NEVER happen.

    They’re gonna love you Jameis!

  10. Joe Says:

Thanks for the kind words Alex.

WS99, I agree. I think we should’ve installed an indoor/artificial turf facility years ago, but I guess it DOES make too much sense. I was always in favor of them going over to the Trop to practice. the heat here is unbearable, and I too believe that the heat sucks the energy out of players and subsequently responsible for many injuries. So on bad weather days, we won’t lose that day’s practice (and others), on away games that play on the fast turf, our players can get accustomed before playing on such a surface. The Glazers lose more money between the couch cushions than what an atrium type facility would cost, spend the damn money and get it done, the team will benefit BIG TIME!

  12. cmurda Says:

@Bucfever you just brough up the reason it doesn’t exist. Artificial turf. It breeds injuries. If you think the heat wreaks havoc, see what happens when these guys are going hard at it on artificial turf. I mean, we have an injury called turf toe. I don’t even remember hearing about that injury until artificial turf was invented.

Jameis is going to turn this franchise around. It may take 2-4 years but this franchise is going to regain its swagger. I fully believe that. Joe missed (as did I) to this point (it’s not over for him) on Johnny Football but we are getting this one right.

cmurda- Other teams have this (not all, I know), but injuries happen on both suraces. Detroit doesn’t have a boatload of players every year get injured in prac tice. If that’s the reason, I do understand it, but it seems we lose SO much valuable time teaching & training these players when it rains. If Gruden can have his players practice in a parking garage, then having an enclosed practice field surely can’t hurt.
