George Johnson: Always Win Now

New Bucs DE George Johnson, shown here in his first go-round with the Bucs, went off on Twitter yesterday about teams not focused on winning.

Joe loves passion from football players because that often means losing tears at their very soul.

Then again, you have to be careful who is displaying such emotion. Anthony Collins used to get bent out of shape at losing, too.

Apparently, new Bucs defensive end George Johnson cares enough about winning he went off on a beautiful rant at the thought of an NFL team not trying to win.

Yesterday, a link that moved on Twitter from ProFootballTalk.com headlined “Stephen Ross told Dolphins’ execs to go into win-now mode,” sure got the attention of the Bucs’ new defensive end seconds later. It seems he took the headline to mean the Dolphins were not prioritizing winning until Ross’ edict.

Man, that is a beautiful rant! Joe loved it. What makes it special was that Johnson teed off about not focusing on winning in May! ]

If Johnson is that driven in May, when most people are awash in beer and liquor on a holiday weekend, Johnson ought to be really charged up come September.

Love that passion! Now if that can just rub off on a couple of Bucs offensive linemen, then it would go along way toward the six wins Joe foresees in 2015, tripling their win total from last season.

Johnson later apologized on Twitter for his rant. George, there is no need to apologize. In fact, thanks for the emotion.

Maybe some of GJ’s fire will rub off on GMC.

  2. Joseph Mamma Says:

So if your prediction is correct Joe the Buc’s get six wins, that would give Lovie 8 wins for two seasons. That’s pathetic, no matter the excuse.

  3. ptwalk Says:

This team not winning is far from McCoy’s fault. He is the best DT in the game, today.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

Last year you predicted too many wins, this year too few, imo. America’s Quarterback will lead the Bucs to a more respectable win total than six.

  5. Buc-A-New Says:

We would have won At Least 6 games with a Healthy MG at the helm from day one last yr. There is Zero excuses for not winning more than 6 with an upgrade at QB, OL, OC and QBCoach

Winning is easier in May. Lets see how he fares in the August sauna that is Raymond James Stadium.

  10. Larry Says:

I think Ross means that he is willing to open the checkbook to win now…ie Ndamukong Suh.

  11. Bawlmerbucfan Says:

You go A-Train! I’m buyin’ what you’re selling!

  12. 98bucsfan Says:

I love the positive mindset that GJ is coming in with. No one should be bashing GMC though. Doesn’t anyone remember the video he made saying “2-14 NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!” GMC is not the reason for any bad mentality towards winning. We already know that America’s Quarterback has that win-now mentality, I just hope the Oline has it too.

These odds may change as the off season progresses and we learn more about our draft picks…and as more FAs are brought in.

So, a very real chance for going 6-10 or worse. The reason is this…a good offensive line can make a rookie QB look great. But that’s not what we have here.

We have a DEVELOPING offensive line drafted in the same year as our QB, so it will take time for everyone to get things going.

    THAT’S NOT LOVIE’S FAULT.

    Time. It will take it.

  15. Joe Says:

    Ryan:

Next Bucs media availability — unless it changes in the next day or two — is Thursday, and yes, Joe will be there.

  16. Joe Says:

So if your prediction is correct Joe the Buc’s get six wins, that would give Lovie 8 wins for two seasons. That’s pathetic, no matter the excuse.

True, however, if a team triples its number of wins in a year, that’s damned good progress, especially with a rookie quarterback.

(Frankly, there is no excuse for going 2-14. That is very much on Lovie, as it should be.)

If the Bucs get six wins (or more), Joe would be totally shocked if Lovie was let go. Floored actually.

No, fans probably don’t want to hear that. Always remember and never forget this team was 2-14 last year for a reason.

  17. Ryan Is Awesome! Says:

Sweet! I envy you Joe, you a lucky man. Cant wait to come home read about the practice.
