“Put Us Over The Top”

April 20th, 2015

jason licht 0126Jason Licht put his foot down today at One Buc Palace.

He said he believes this draft is the biggest in team history.

Licht said he is confident the Bucs’ decisions could “put us over the top,” in terms of where the team sits right now.

It’s going to be a busy day on One Buc Palace. Stick with Joe all day long.

I remember when PR declared the 2007 draft as a “Can’t miss draft” in their draft preview. That was the Gaines Adams-Arron Sears-Sabby Piscittelli trilogy of ineptitude, so yeah, we missed. Here’s hoping this year we find better luck than that one.

    @Joe

Are you going to be supplying protection for the bloggers here who have dared to criticize Fameis? 🙂 Some of the Winstonites have the potential to get very exercized if they call out Mariota’s name first. Mix in some adult beverages and I just hope nobody comes armed.

You know I wish that last sentence was just snark but in today’s Florida I’m not really sure it is.

I’m trying to see if I can free up Thursday night because I enjoy your site and overall you’ve attracted a great group of posters. Just few here are a bit frightening!

  3. White Tiger Says:

It could put us over the top, if we have the right guys AT the top…

How stupid this little poker game they’re playing with #1 though. Keeping things so veiled. There’s no reason for it. Just shows they’re amateurs. IF they know who they’re picking they should come out with it.

  5. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Joe it would be fun if you could organize a side event for all the regulars here. We could show up and have everybody try and guess who is who?

Of course my gray beard and hair would give me away quickly.

  6. BlogTalkFootball Says:

I am planning on being at RayJay Thursday for the draft party! No matter who they call with that first pick, my beer will taste good!

  7. bucrightoff Says:

It’s not the biggest in team history, it’s the biggest for Licht’s career. A failed draft here and he’s obviously never getting another GM (or even assistant GM) job again. Bucs franchise will still be here either way, Licht’s career, well, not so much. So no pressure Jason.

a team doesn’t give away its info too early. if they do they would lose trade value. that would make no sense. you would only give that info away forr the fans sake. and lets be honest the glazers care about their pockets not the fans. ask man u how that went a couple years ago

Actually, it would be dumb to announce anything. Until the pick is made, there is always a chance that a blockbuster trade offer can come in.

If a team steps up and offers 3 #1s plus more, the Bucs would be fools to pass it up. We can stock up the OL and Defense that way, and get a QB next year.

  10. WS99 Says:

Lovie smith looks like “the thing” after a week in the Bahamas.

  11. Buccfan37 Says:

StPeteBucsFan.. you are not the only one out here in Bucsville sporting shades of grey. Youth aint what it is cracked up to be. Hey, where did I put my glasses?

  12. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    @ Bonzai

Agreed with what you said. I know plenty of posters here as well as analysts have been saying Winston is a lock, but I am even more convinced now that they’ve been wanting to trade back for a great offer. Why else play the “poker game” if they are sold on one player unless they want to trade out of #1 and still get one of the highest grades guys on their draft board that’s still available?

  13. bucs4lyfe Says:

he believes this draft is the biggest in team history.

have to admit that hasn’t been said by anyone in a long time. finally putting stock into drafting players that could possibly come right in and start gives hope that we are atleast going in the right direction finally.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

They didn’t tank the last game of the season to trade out of the pick.

    Simple as that.

  15. Iknowmorethanlovie Says:

That’s frightening since this team sucks at drafting. Building thru the draft only works if you are good at drafting players

  16. kdrbuc Says:

It’s looking more and more like they will be trading down. No talk of any contract negotiations is a dead giveaway.

  17. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Trade Down w/ SD

For Philip Rivers & Antonio Gates

    (2015)

    • Round 1 || 17th Pick

    • Round 2 || 48th Pick

    &

    (2016)

    • 1st

We give up the 1st Overall Pick & Doug Martin

If not they can keep Gates & We can go after Adrian Peterson

Or just trade down for a Kings Random!

  18. LUVMYBUCS Says:

The Spanos Family has a Long history of letting their productive veterans walk

    Recap:

    (Offensive)
    • Drew Brees QB
    • Natrone Means RB
    • LaDainian Tomlinson RB
    • Michael Turner RB
    • Darren Sproles RB
    • Joe Washington RB
    • James Brooks RB
    • John Jefferson WR
    • Vincent Jackson WR
    • Anthony Miller WR
    • Yancey Thigpen WR
    • Jim Lachey T
    • Louis Vasquez G

    (Defense)
    • Fred Dean DE
    • Burt Grossman DE
    • Gary Plummer LB
    • Junior Seau LB
    • Antonio Cromartie CB
    • Rodney Harrison SAF

Plenty of Ex-players have called the Spanos Family cheap over the years.

So it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities to ask for Antonio Gates- AS WELL in a trade. Especially given his age, and the fact that- he’ll be a free agent next year

  19. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Forgot to add DE Leslie O’Neal to the list

  20. Bucs#1 Says:

If Licht really does beleive that this is the most important draft in team history, then he will stay far, far away from Winston

  21. gotbbucs Says:

First off they gain nothing by announcing the pick early. Second, there is no contract negotiation problems to iron out, draft pay out is basically slotted.

  22. MAYNE ONE Says:

    Winstons on the way.

  23. Brian D Says:

At this point I’m pretty sure even after Winston becomes a Buc in 10 days, half of the posters in here are going to be speculating that they took him just to trade him away. The denial is absurd.

  24. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    @Buc1987

“They didn’t tank the last game of the season to trade out of the pick.”

Maybe not, but then again if you’ve already gotten your asses handed to you in 13 other games you tried to win why not tank the last one and have more options with the #1 pick? Just a few more days until we see what the team truly has planned.

  25. Jacko101 Says:

Lol If JW is the pick you will be “put at the top” of the Fired Food Chain. Smile now, you won’t be smiling later.

  26. Architek Says:

I like Licht but unfortunately he and Lovie statements don’t carry much weight.

For example – how is it that everyone in the football world knew Johnson wasn’t a pass rusher, he just a rusher.

    Credibility.
