Jameis Watch: “Jameis Is Jameis”

April 7th, 2015

jameis 0407

Crab-legs-stealing, BB-gun-shooting, obscenity-hollering, Heisman-Trophy-winning, former national champion Jameis Winston, the pride of Florida State University, continues to look like a much better quarterback prospect than Mike Glennon.

It’s Joe’s daily nugget on the Jameis Watch, celebrating the best quarterback ever to wear No. 5 in the state of Florida.

So is Jameis Winston just a ham when media members are around him and the TV klieglights shine? No way, says Winston’s teammate, guard Tre Jackson.

Speaking on NFL AM this morning, Jackson said what you see is what you get with Winston. There’s no fake about him.

“He’s a great leader,” Jackson said. “If you are in the locker room just jacking around, he’s going to be that funny guy. But when it is time to be serious, he hits that switch.”

Jackson, who is regarded as a potential second-round pick, was of course interviewed by the Bucs and admitted the Tampa Bay — he didn’t say who — didn’t waste time asking him about Winston.

“That was one of the first questions I was asked,” Jackson said. “I just gave them the rundown on what type of guy he was. What you see in Jameis, that is what you will get out of Jameis. There is no ‘this is what I will be when the lights are on.’ Jameis is Jameis Winston.”

As for the Bucs drafting him in the second round, a big smile came across Jackson’s face as he said, “I would like that.”

Joe isn’t sure if Jackson is worthy of a No. 34 pick, but Joe likes that a guy really wants to play for the Bucs. As for Winston, damnit, these next three weeks are going to be a friggin’ chore.

MAYBE he lasts until the BUCS third round pick…
    HOPEFULLY

  2. bucrightoff Says:

Based off the reactions of the guys behind him, I think Jameis just farted.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @bucrightoff

One of the benefits of Mariota not being in the huddle is that he hasn’t farted in the huddle.

I notice lately that you are easing off on Lovie…..any change of heart there?

  4. rayjay1122 Says:

Yawn…Time for the haters to spew their vomit again. The best thing L&L accomplished last season was getting us in position to draft the best QB we have most likely ever had here in Tampa. I know he has done nothing in the NFL yet but I just feel like he has star potential. Mariota I actually think will be average to pretty good in time but Winston has to be the pick. His flaws can be coached up, his maturity will improve and he has the “it factor” which cannot be coached. He will be the unquestioned leader on the field and in the locker room. Mariota does not have the same vocal leadership qualities. If we have 2 minutes left in the game and are down by a TD or less, Winston is the guy I want leading our team to victory.

  5. tval Says:

Hed be worth late 1st, thats why pats just interviewed him..hoping to reunite he & stork..no way he lasts to 35th pick. I think fsus best lineman since hudson..cam erving is like the kelvin of linemen, very good, but very raw

  6. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

rayjay1122 …it’s been forever and ever, but dreams DO come true.

Jameis Winston is going to be a Buccaneer.

TBBF…I’ve eased up on Lovie a lot. I was never as harsh as DallasBuc, but I was in his corner…. I just keep telling myself that all this was a plan to get Jameis, whether I’m right, wrong or delusional. It got me through last season.

even mentioning winston and the word r*pe is frowned upon.

hell, he’s completely innocent, has been the victim of the system, the woman …ooops, WOMEN, are the devil and only trying to harm him because being a doctor might not have paid her bills?

    that about sums it up.

  13. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

May as well let it sink in now, instead of being hit over the head with a sledgehammer on draft day.

  14. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @bucrightoff

Based off the reactions of the guys behind him, I think Jameis just farted.

Nah. If Fameis breaks wind it will get it’s own thread here on JBF

  15. Supersam Says:

It’ll be a chore for Jameis to stay outta trouble for another 3 weeks.

  16. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

None of his past matters, remember the Bucs have already done their investigation or does that slip your minds?

They’ve done the investigation and came back with : “We feel comfortable making Winston our face of the franchise.”

No matter what you, I, or anyone feels about his past..the investigation is complete. You don’t have to like it, but you’re going to have to deal with it or just leave.

    Simple as that.

  17. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

StPeteBucsFan…you’re right. It would be considered another “red flag”.

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo suggests that 87 get a size 3XL….because the guy Pablo saw in Pasco County had large brea$ts…and 87 will need to cover them when he goes to see his Winston”

  19. Andrew 1 Says:

Man these polar opposites clashing about Winston is enough to drive you crazy lol. Give it up people, one group is not going to change the groups mind. Hasn’t happened once, not once, since I’ve been here on JBF. Just sit back and let it unfold.

  20. robert 9 Says:

yeah sure, if they found something, they would surely show their hand and ruin any chance of trading the pick.

some people are sooo slow. dumb, just dumb

  21. miken Says:

classic… jameis’s face right below the Metcalf and Hardin banner that reads in bold print … Accused of a Crime?
This is the new buc ball.

  22. charactermatters Says:

    87,
Did the Buccaneers say that their investigation is complete? I haven’t seen that. Not contradicting you, I truly don’t know.

  23. StPeteBucsFan Says:

IF the Bucs do not draft Fameis now they are going to have some “splaining to do since they have so many fans jacked up.

And now that the Bucs and the league have said Fameis is the best in terms of on field talent the Bucs would have only two ways to go.

They would be forced to either throw Fameis totally under the bus and claim character issues drove their decision, or trade down and claim that they had too many holes to fill and simply had to wait to get their QB or MG* is the future yadda yadda.

I don’t see how they can take MM at this point without simply staring the off field issues scared them from the QB widely believed to be the better prospect.

  24. charactermatters Says:

    Andrew,
I don’t think that’s true. Maybe not the closed minded dogmatic , but I have seen several say that they were Mariota supporters but then moved over to “the dark side”. LOL I know I have softened my position on Jameis, even though I still have my concerns, and that is party as a result of our spirated debate.

  25. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Thursday should be a telling day. The Bucs brass will have seen both players work out in private doing whatever Koetter wants to see.

If they come back still raving about Fameis then it’s a done deal. If they go on and on about how either player is going to be great in the league, the obligatory we like them both….then I’d be getting just a “little” nervous.

  26. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

    Hey 87<
So an article that questions 87's Saint Jameis is 4 days old, now it's too old to mention? From what I've seen, Joe may disagree with me, but I've done nothing that would cause him to remove the link, even if you (87) can't bear to hear that the draft pick 87 (and Joe) wants may be a bad guy.

As I've said before, I think they're going to draft him. I think that's an incredibly bad decision for both on and off the field reasons.

I can't stop a private business from making a bad decision, even if it affects others. I am here to voice my opinion in the slim hope that they may realize that not all of us have 1, maybe 2 years left in the Tampa Bay area, unlike Lovie and Co. We will have to live with this multimillion dollar "Face of the Team" long after the current coaches and managers are gone.

  27. robert 9 Says:

just hope the glazers have some dough stashed away for the lawsuits that may follow.

could make his salary look like bubble gum money.

  28. ChessMaster Says:

I’ll take that guy over EDS any day. A center may not be a bad 2nd round pick, although guard is more pressing.

  29. Supersam Says:

That pic sums Jameis up. Immature head case. If anyone can find a pic of Aaron Rodgers, Peyton manning Tom Brady etc… Acting that way id love to see it.

  30. Drew Says:

With all the attention Joe gives JW. I’m really starting to hate the Kid. Let’s not forget the lack of attention Joe gives to MM in limited empty articles.

Joe is undoubtedly pro JW and anti MM.

  31. OAR Says:

    87
If you are so sure he is our #1 pick, why are you and many, many, of your family members waiting until AFTER the draft to buy season tickets? Hmm….I guess even you have some doubts, otherwise buy them now.

  33. ChessMaster Says:

    Wantsastaysbuca

There is no second accuser. In sanders article he clearly states the the second girl clearly said it was NOT rape. She is providing support more than anything else. Some of us discussed her months ago. BN is slow and sanders is clueless about football he should stick to soccer and you should find a better buc site.

    Chessmaster
Wedding nights can be pretty crazy. Lol. Jk.

  36. robert 9 Says:

“Not hard to imagine those boys in Orange jump suits, is it?”

    bwahahahahahahaha!

    RFLMAO!

    so true!

  37. WantstaStayaBuc Says:

    WS99,
“This second accuser, if she’s the same woman who was mentioned by the New York Times, did not initially call her encounter with Winston rape, but she was troubled enough by what happened to seek counseling.”

“While this may seem like a strong indicator that nothing untoward happened, this is actually sadly common in rape cases — it’s why RAINN has an entire page devoted to the question “was I raped?” There’s also the possibility that something happened that most wouldn’t classify as rape, but still violated her consent. Of course, it may be nothing serious, either.”

Hey let’s make him “Face of the Bucs”! I’m sure we all all have such rape accusations in our past (remember he wasn’t the starting QB at FSU when this happened or when the first accuser went to the police). We all steal (is it stealing from a corporation when we have an inside guy?). We all were terrible people when we were 20, but changed our ways when we turned 21 and got our first million dollar check. Right?

Why do so many of you fight so hard to get this guy to come here? There are reasonable questions about his football ability and there are glaring questions about his character.

  38. WS99 Says:

Actually that pretty fckd up. The guy in the back is kelvin Benjamin but I bet they all look they same to you two.

  39. TheShaz Says:

The only R*PE I am concerned about is what Jaboo is planning on doing to the opposing defenses.

If he handles them like he has most of his collegiate opponents……there may be fresh allegations against him for roughing up defenses too much.

After watching game tape on him, again and then doing the same with Mariota…..Its is a no-brainer decision.

I am on the Jameis Bandwagon along with Joe, tho last year I was NOT on the Johnny Football wagon…..his “Show me the Money” trademark gesture was a red flag. That and the style of offense he played in. He was a good scrambler and liked to toss the ball up in the air to Evans.

  40. TheDon Says:

    robert9 ….. wtf?

    Orange jump suits?

    How racist can you be.

  41. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I am one of the Mariota supporters that has warmed up considerably to the thought and likely fact that Winston will be our QB…..but that doesn’t change my skepticism….only time and Winston’s good behavior will do that.
I have a higher standard for our first overall pick and a QB….I don’t think that is unreasonable.
As a Buc….I will be a very strong supporter of Winston going forward.

I’m one of the fortunate fans….who will be happy on draft night….even if there is a shocking change to Mariota…..but if we don’t pick one of them, I will be more than pi$$ed…..I guess angry would be the word for that.

  42. TheDon Says:

People dont realize how much their racism is showing

  43. David Says:

You’re right 87, but it’s ridiculous that these people don’t even realize how bad they make themselves look. I’m tired of people on here everyday looking down on people. I could care less about the fact it’s Winston really. This is an example of a bigger problem and alot of what is wrong with society. O…he’s a thug, he’s a rapist, he stole crab legs, he stole some soda in water cup(f*ckin kidding me), and he yelled a meme that was started by a harmless white older guy!!! @TBBF

I am pretty much in the same boat as you. As long as we take one of the QB’s I will sleep good after the first night of the draft. I also began more in the Mariota camp and as time has gone by have switched to the Winston camp. I also need to see him continue to keep his nose clean. I really do like his outspoken and charismatic personality. I like his confidence as long as he backs it up with his play. Like you, if we pass on a QB, I will be extremely disappointed in the teams leadership. I really do think Winston will be our pick though unless something drastic happens.

  54. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

As the projected No. 1 pick, Winston will be the seventh quarterback since 2008 to be drafted in the first three rounds whose college QBR regressed from his first season as a starter to his last. The other six quarterbacks have not have success in the NFL, to put it lightly

Locker, Manziel, Tebow, Pat White, Gabbert, Brohm

Marcus Mariota, the consensus choice as the second quarterback to be drafted, improved his Total QBR in each season at Oregon, culminating in an FBS-leading 90.9 QBR in 2014.

Nine quarterbacks drafted in the first three rounds since 2008 improved in QBR while logging at least one elite season (defined as having a QBR of 80 or more). They have a .543 career winning percentage in the NFL and a combined 25 playoff starts. Those nine quarterbacks include Andrew Luck, Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick.”

  79. 87SizeXLCreamsicle! Says:

RustyRhinos …people are more than free to express their opinions. If they want to trash the future QB of the franchise before he even takes a snap. Let them do it. When I say “or leave” I mean out of all the terrible things they can say about him, why stay being a fan? I’m also saying what’s the effin point to running him down now, when he IS going to be the QB of OUR team. We are 23 days away from it. Not 2 months away and there’s still some debating left to do. There’s not. The game is over. Winston WILL be the QB and if someone thinks he’s so sh***y, in my book they can leave. Then again that’s just my “opinion”.

Perhaps I really SHOULD take a break from commenting like I always say I will. Leave this site to the robert 9’s, Barry’s, and the interchangeable usernames that come on here daily. For they have much more to offer this site anyways. I really am going to try to stop saying it and just do it. I’m logging off entirely for atleast a week. We’ll see if I hold up. Winston IS going to be the pick anyways. So I’ll just let everyone continue bashing him for no reason. Bitch, whine and complain about him, but in the end he’s still going to BE the pick. That’s my point anyways, the bitching and whining is pointless. It’s not January anymore. It’s 23 days away and he’s going to be the pick.

See you guys next Tuesday. 1 week.

Film, Combine, pro days, multiple interviews, personal work outs out the ying yang.

My prediction, which means nothing, is that in around two weeks joes siren is going to go off announcing the Bucs are negotiating with Winston.

Makes two much sense not to go ahead and use a little leverage to get an iron clad no baseball clause and maybe some heightened personal conduct language. (If that would get by the NFLPA).

But if I’m wrong and they pick Marcus I won’t cry about it. He’s way more talented than anyone we’ve had here in many a moon.

If they pick neither I’m heading for the Skyway.

FYI: Bucs signed George Johnson to a 3 year offer sheet Lions have 5 days to match.

@Supersam Do you mean a pic of Manning assaulting a girl or paying her off while at Tennessee??? Just asking.

Is it that hard to find a picture of Jameis where he actually looks half intelligent? Out of every picture I have seen of him he always looks like a real dummy. Not saying it has anything to do with how he’ll play, but damn.
