O-Line Help On The Way?

March 10th, 2015

The mere thought of young, fresh, angry talent coming to the Bucs’ offensive line has Joe celebrating like he just won free beer for life.

And a new report says a live, quality body is coming to Tampa.

That would be ESPN reporter Adam Caplan claiming free agent center Stefan Wisniewski of the Raiders is heading to Tampa for a free agent visit.

Please, Bucs, don’t let him leave.

Joe’s really getting tired of writing about how much help the Bucs need on their offensive line. Did they have one average starter at his respective position last year?

The Bucs should feel desperate for upgrades with a rookie quarterback on his way to Tampa Bay.

Wisniewski is at least an average NFL starting center, but likely better than that.

The 2011 second-round pick out of Penn State comes from a family of NFL players and impressed in his rookie year at left guard — his legendary uncle Steve Wisniewski’s position — before moving to center.

Laugh at the Raiders all you want, but they were an elite pass blocking team this season allowing just 28 sacks.

Wisniewski, 25, has missed just three starts in four seasons and has more experience than 28-year-old Evan Dietrich-Smith, and he’s had an excellent position coach in Tony Sparano, in addition to the family lineage.

Wisniewski also has played some guard, as has Dietrich-Smith. Perhaps the Bucs are thinking Dietrich-Smith could handle a shift to his right.

    17 holes in the Dyke and maybe one new plug. Knowing the situation in Tampa, maybe he thinks he can double his income??

    A must sign. Any in hear anything about Jake Long?

  6. Ray Rice Says:

    I never thought he would leave Oakland because of his uncle Steve. Steve was a beast in Oakland. But $hit… Bye bye EDS.

  7. ElioT Says:

    Why didn’t the Raiders retain him?

    #Crickets…….

    Go Sucs!!!

    i like it…why not try EDS at guard…

    Report: YUCS are also set to host Henry Melton. Good stuff!!!

  11. Vern4499 Says:

    Ask a Raiders fan what they think about him.

    EDS stays at center and Wisniewski goes to guard.

    LOCK it UP!!
    Especially if we are drafting a QB. Do I have a clue if this is the guy for us? NO!
    But what we have Isn’t working so…………….SIGN HIM

  14. Bill Says:

    I dig it. We’ve still got Mankins, sign Wisniewski, draft Cam Irving, keep EDS and you’ve got a good looking OL with 3 starters who can play center.

    This is the kind of guy we should overpay (the CBA dictates we have to overpay some players). Give him a decent signing bonus to get him here and motivating roster bonuses in year 3 and 4 to make sure he works hard.

  15. MGM#8 Says:

    Please don’t let him leave Tampa!!!

  16. DWE Says:

    @Elio T
    Bucs fan since 1976 says good question but why didn’t saints keep Graham? Go Bucs and you suc

  17. The original "Kevin" Says:

    The only time we get fa players to sign with us is when the glaziers hop in theyre private jet pick them up fly back to tampa wine and dine them buy em a rub an tug and over pay them by millions. I will believe this when I see it done

  18. Bill Says:

    @Kevin,

    That sounds like healthy skepticism. Does anybody know the Raiders well enough to comment on why they might be letting him walk? Do they have a promising backup they are looking to make room for?

  19. The original "Kevin" Says:

    They cant be needing the cap room. Why would they let him walk….good question. Anyone thinking turf toe carl nicks???

  20. lurker Says:

    @bill

    raiders signed kc center rodney hudson

  21. Rob Says:

    Yes please. At this point I’d take almost any warm body over what’s in place at the moment.

  22. ElioT Says:

    @DWE

    Saints couldn’t afford Graham.

    Raiders signed the top FA Center (Rodney Hudson) to replace Wisniewski.

    Do some homework dumbass.

    I’m all for this guy if he can play RG for us. Just color me a bit skeptical as to why the Raiders supposedly upgraded the Center position and let him go.

    As always, GO SUCS!!!!!

  24. jfat Says:

    From what I’ve read, he wanted more than the Raiders wanted to pay him, so they got someone else. This guy is decent, not great, but wants to be paid like he’s great. I still think we should sign him, but it might be an overpay.

  25. Jon Says:

    Hes a bad player, Raiders didn’t even want him…here we go again! L&L year 2

  26. Java Says:

    When it comes to offensive lines Lovie knows nothin

  27. Bill Says:

    @Kevin,

    Alright, that sounds like “unhealthy” skepticism, lol.

    Come on man, there are 3 general reasons why a team lets a player hit FA. (1) They have a better replacement on a “value” basis. (2) The player is a locker room problem. (3) They can’t afford to keep him.

    There’s no evidence of being a bad teammate and we know he’s not a cap casualty. Item (1) makes the most sense. According to Luther the Raiders signed Hudson, and apparently they feel he is an upgrade in “value” and presumably talent. That doesn’t mean Wisniewski isn’t a good upgrade for us.

  28. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

    Please sign this guy. n thank god jimmy graham is no longer in the NFC South!!!

  29. Bill Says:

    @Lurker,

    Morgan is a GT guy. I’d love to get him, but him being in ATL is not a good sign.

  30. The original "Kevin" Says:

    Just check his toes at least…

  31. Bill Says:

    “Just check his toes at least…”

    LOL….agreed

    Right on my thoughts exactly.

  38. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    He could have requested an out too. Maybe he doesn’t want to be a Raider.

    EDS totally sucks. Replace him. He cost us at least 2 games last year all by himself.

  39. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Lol, jets are the true dregs of the nfl.

  40. Bill Says:

    Fungus,

    Jameis wants to play here. He’ll make other players want to play here. That’s what franchise players do.

  41. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Hey, idiots…if no one wanted to play here they would not be visiting.

    LMFAO now THAT made me laugh.

  44. Broy34 Says:

    Sorry about the swearing Joe ^^its been 4 years building up

  45. FortMyersDave Says:

    Signing Wisniewski is a no brainer as the Bucs need to get some above average players in the trenches to protect Winston when the Bucs draft him. But L&L are making the decisions and it seems to me they simply do the exact opposite of what people expect them to do; almost like it would be more likely for them to sign the Center if everyone on the planet told them NOT to sign the guy… Reminds me of dealing with my teenage daughter; the only time I can get her to do something is by telling her that I do not want her to do it, reverse psychology at its best…..

  46. Bill Says:

    Hey Bonzai,

    Could I pay you a million dollars to do something you don’t want to do? I’m sure I could (if I had an expendable 1 million dollars).

    Visits don’t mean squat. Get players who have pride in being Buccaneers, Noles, Gators, Canes, FL natives. Preferably some combination of the 4. We need guys who want to be here. Florida is a football cash cow, the Bucs are fools when they refuse to use it.

  47. MTM Says:

    The Bucs free agency is like a pro bowl selection. Go get paid, relax, heal any nagging injuries and let the family enjoy some sunshine. Then subsequently play sub par football while being overpaid for it.
