Greg Hardy Dreams Extinguished?

March 18th, 2015

GregHardy

A new report says the Buccaneers’ dance with elite pass rusher has ended without a kiss.

At about 2 p.m., TampaBay.com Bucs beat writer Rick Stroud Twittered that the Buccaneers are no longer interested in Hardy and it nothing to do with a contract.

Joe can’t vouch for the accuracy of Stroud’s Twittering, so Joe’s not calling a time of death on Hardy-to-Bucs chatter. Things can change fast in the NFL, though Joe’s advising Bucs fans to find a new obsession.

    Hardy hardy har

  2. bucrightoff Says:

The fact it wasn’t about the money will drive people insane and send a shiver down the Jameis crowd’s spines. Very good day for the Mariota Mob though.

  3. Solinor Says:

Great! We don’t need any woman beaters on the team!!

  4. Patrick in VA Says:

Might be that they heard from the league about what that suspension is going to look like

  5. Couch Fan Says:

Always felt winning was over rated anyways.

  6. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Must have meant that licht and lovie dont hold him up to the high standard of michael johnson

  7. Worstthanlastyear Says:

F this team right in there pirate ship !

  8. allIwantiswins Says:

How can you lose interest in a player that never wanted to play for you?

  9. -Alexstotle00 Says:

Michael Johnson had no passion, Hardy is a different player. Wish he would have came. Thanks mccoy for trying

  10. Bucbob1 Says:

Another confirmation that Lovie only cares about charactor.

  11. tmaxcon Says:

Lovie is getting pummeled in free agency. 2 of the 3 signings are prove it deals and the solid guy is going to be asked to switch positions. How in the heck am I supposed to excited over that. Having first waiver claim is nice but now way to gamble with such huge holes. Lovie is getting pummeled not one proven solid upgrade anywhere

  12. MadMax Says:

    lol, ok.

  13. Lord Cornelius Says:

Oh well if true. At least we can all move on with our lives in regards to this soon.

I’m curious as to wtf is actualy going on though. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucs were never interested but were simply a play from Hardy’s agent to get more $$.

It’s also possible the Bucs don’t like the kind of contract Hardy was looking for; whether it be the terms or compensation.

  14. Chef Paul Says:

If they had a pair of balls at all, they would explain what lost their interest.

  15. MadMax Says:

    I’ll believe it when I see it………..

  16. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

No faith in lovie in licht not one drop, they are worst than the previous clowns

  17. Yungry Says:

Instead of the woman beater maybe we can still trade for the child beater(AP
)!!!! Then, draft the alleged rapist. My morals went away with that 2-14 season… Whoever can help us win let’s sign them NOW

  18. Couch Fan Says:

Again, these guys seem to just never fail to disappoint. Not taking Winston would be icing on another 2-14 season. Ugh.

  19. Java Says:

4-12 team made worse by Lovie. Now a 2-14 team is not getting any better. It’s a Bucs life

  20. bucrightoff Says:

GMC is taking isht on Twitter of course. This is why we can’t have nice things, our 2nd best player doing what he can and gets nothing but grief for his efforts.

  21. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Shoutouts to Team Captain & Face of the Franchise DT Gerald McCoy.

    We Appreciate the effort brotha.

Show GMAC some LUV on his social media feeds. Because for some odd reason, trolls are hatin’ on the brotha.

  22. Bucs_Sam Says:

Honestly, I didn’t want him here.

This peice in ESPN is spot on:

That said, it’s silly for folks to say that since the charges were dropped, Hardy didn’t do anything. Google the police report and read it for yourself.

((Joe doesn’t so links. Thanks. –Joe))

  23. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Couch Fan…. I dont care if its winston or mariotta but not taking either one you are spot on…. Licht seems to me like the drunk happy fat guy at the bar, the dude from always sunny in philadelphia, Bill Ponderosa, and lovie is THE ABSOLUTE worst talent evaluator in history how this clown is a head coach is beyond me….someone explain to me what is their to root for in this team next year? NO OL, NO LB, NO secondary…no qb as of today…mike evans and an old v jax….but no one to get them the ball…1-15

  24. ufcguy Says:

I want smith out of town before this year is over. Hes a incompetent bafoon. Go sit in your basement

  25. Bucs55 Says:

If we wont take a chance on a proven player thats much needed in this scheme as the true pass rusher on a cover 2 scheme since we harly blitz to get pressure what makes people think that we will waist a first overall player on a player polorized on and off the field watch lovie suprise everyone and trade down for a defensive end or a tackle

  26. BucFanInArkansas Says:

The news and reports on Hardy’s assault charges have been available for a long time. If it’s not about a contract, maybe it’s because somebody at One Buc Place became aware of a possible suspension looming for Hardy? Pure speculation on my part, but why would the Bucs go through a courtship with him and THEN decide that his off-the-field issues were an impediment?

  27. Jimbo slice Says:

Hey Lovie u need a pass rush for ur defense to work, grow a pair and sign Hardy now. The draft is weak as fuk at that position, and ur honestly gonna go into the season with TJ fantkun whatever his name is as ur edge rusher. Bravo lovie! Bravo!!!!!!!

  28. Jim Says:

Hardy & Winston would made interesting roommates.

  29. ufcguy Says:

If he trades own im done with this team forever

Get over it man, pummeled how? How many top end pass rushers were out there? Left tackles? Guards? You want them to go out and over-pay the next Collins or MJ I guess? There weren’t many “proven solid upgrades” out there. Most of the best FA’s re-signed with their own teams. They aren’t going to overpay B and C grade talent just because they have “needs”, that lesson seems to have been learned.

The rest of you joke ass “fans” giving up on next season before we even draft can suck it too.

  31. Eric Says:

L&L go get another super nice guy who can’t play a lick of football this is crazy man we are the joke of the NFL!

  32. HotRod Says:

Bucs Sam – half the point of the charges being dropped stem from the police report you read and her testimony to the original judge and her statement to the prosecution all being different. The charges weren’t dropped because she won’t participate but because with 3 different stories the defense could have made them look silly at a trial. But whats it matter if the Bucs aren’t even trying. Thank you McCoy for at least trying.

  33. bucrightoff Says:

Yeah, not a good omen for Winston…

    Rick Stroud ‏@NFLSTROUD 4 mins4 minutes ago
#Bucs GM Jason Licht on the decision not to pursue DE Greg Hardy. “At the end of the day, we didn’t feel good about it.”

  34. ufcguy Says:

I cant stand this bs. Get some balls. This team overpays for morons and you have a game changing de available and you screw it up. You are a joke! Screw u lovie!

  35. OAR Says:

I can sum it up in one word “suspension”. He’ll be suspended 8 games.

  36. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

This sucks its March and I am already depressed about the upcoming season and lack of moves the bucs have made to at least make the OL better, they have done JACK SQUAT….and for people to call for Adrian Peterson, that would be a dumb move, what OL does he have to run behind….#1 worst move the new MGT has made is let the 3 OL of 2014 walk out the door, then sign the bengal crappy OL, then Johnson….if these 2 buffoons, were schiano and domminick they would had been fired months ago, but Lovie is dungys buddy so here he stays, CMON man, the bucs should have been 1-15 and may go ofer in 2015 with this BS squad they are going to roll out there…..sign some OL get Hardy, be competitive in a crappy divisison

  37. ufcguy Says:

Ill tell u I dont feel good about ur sorry ass team and its performance. Gtfo

  38. Jimbo Slice Says:

I feel bad for Gerald McCoy, guy will never have help on the egde. We should of just let him walk in free agency so he can go to a team that actually wants to build their future around him.

  39. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

JFAT you are right and I admire your positivity, when i hit the checkout line at publix tonight and the kid asks me for paper or plastic….I WILL SHOUT PAPER…so i can have 8 beautifully created bags to wear to the games next year that will match my fire lovie sign

  40. Joe T. Says:

It’s blatantly obvious Hardy used the Bucs as leverage to get a better deal out of Dallas, he never intended to come here. Classic Rosenhaus.

  41. OAR Says:

    ufcguy, eric, etc
There are 31 other teams you can gladly hook your wah-gon to!

  42. Jimbo Slice Says:

Hardy would of solved a major piece to the puzzle. The only thing that will get my mind off this is if we trade for Adrian Peterson(light years better than the running backs we have, even at age 30) and solidify the guard and tackle position. Other than that were still the same 2-14 team looking at another first overall pick in 2016 draft.

  43. Buc1987 Says:

So which one of you is Mr Patrick these days?

or Has he just given up entirely….

  44. BirdDoggers Says:

The Bucs probably had a certain level of interest, but not as interested as the media was reporting. All signs pointed to Hardy signing in Dallas and the Bucs were being used to drive up the price. Things could change, but I wouldn’t expect to see Hardy in a Bucs uniform.

  45. Yungry Says:

Don’t panick! J. Smith, W. Gholston and Larry English will become legends this year… Just wait, Licht sees something in these guys. #Super Bowl

  46. nate Says:

If we dont get hardy this gm should be fired.. he has failed us time and time again…. michael jonson anothny collins trading away good olineman for bad ones not signing any olineman or passs rushers.. this gm stinks!

  47. BIGPAPI Says:

I never believed the Bucs were ever in the discussion for Hardy in the first place so I’m not that disappointed. How can a player really be considering playing for an organization when he hasn’t even stepped foot in your state let alone your building. I mean c’mon think about it why would a player choose the Bucs right now over the Cowboys all things being equal.
@ JFat what has this organization done to give you any reason to believe that 2015 is going to be any different than 2014? Unless L&L are going to hit on every draft pick and magically fill all the holes on the roster it is not looking good for next year. I hope I’m wrong and the Bucs finally have a winning season at least next year but realistically I don’t see it happening.

  48. Yungry Says:

Maybe Melton can play defensive end…

  49. tmaxcon Says:

    Jfat

You are in denial. It’s OK time will fix it. Lovie and the bucs have been rejected or beat out every opportunity to upgrade this team since season ended. That is undisputed. This team is worse now. It’s one thing to be positive but another to be delusional. Lovie is a failure

  50. WS99 Says:

Someone tell me again how players Love playing for lovie, please.

  51. Jack Says:

Read where Melton ran a 4.6 at pro combine and weighed 260# – hmmm, if he loses 15 pounds, the he might be lining up at DE.

  52. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I smell a Drew Rosenhaus in this mix. Ian Beckles said earlier that the Bucs didn’t lose interest…if they had no interest they would have never mentioned any to begin with. It was Hardy who lost interest.

OK. That could be true. Here is my take. If the Bucs sensed that Rosenhaus, a well known “player” was USING the Bucs simply for leverage to goose the deal with the Cowboys what better way for L&L to get the last laugh in that scenario.

Simply come and say the Bucs have lost interest so that JJ can save some money and the Bucs can tell Rosenhaus they can play his silly games as well he does.

This happens all the time, generally behind the scenes. When an agent is thoroughly hated in the league the enemy of my enemy becomes my friend.
That is to say that NFL GM’s have been known to call each other when there is a despised agent in the deal just to let them know they don’t have interest and so don’t get gamed by Rosenhaus.

Sadly I see posters like Nate…If we dont get hardy this gm should be fired

No Nate…Licht shouldn’t get fired. You should learn to direct your venom at the right source DREW FREAKING ROSENHAUS. He played the Bucs and by extension all of us!!!! And you fell for it Nate.

  53. MtBucsFan Says:

I feel like they have given up completely on this team. I understand after completely failing and sucking at last years free agency game might restrict you a bit. But still not going for any proven players (even with checkered backgrounds) is a huge let down. If I was on the team I would be completely upset with management about not even trying to put the tea in a position to win!

  54. StPeteBucsFan Says:

BTW Nate. I wasn’t picking on you. I feel for it to as did Joe and virtually all the posters here. Rosenhaus has played us all.

  55. LUVMYBUCS Says:

There’s no point crying over spilt milk. (Movin’ On)

    Next on the agenda

    Cameron Jordan (Age 25)

    (4yr Career Numbers)

    • Active:64 Started: 63
    • Tackles: 114
    • Sacks: 29.0
    • Forced Fumbles: 5
    • Pro Bowler (2013)

Of course most teams don’t trade players within the Division. But with the Saints salary cap situation and roster constraints-coupled with Jordan’s pending free agency in 2016. There’s a very good chance they move Jordan to acquire more assets. Rumors have the Giants , Da’ Bears as possible trade partners. A second round pick has been discussed.

  56. Yungry Says:

Did the Seahawks lose interest too? Notice, they aren’t talked about anymore either

  57. tmaxcon Says:

    LUVMYBUCS

Jordan would be a upgrade. 2nd Rd this and toss Glennon in. won’t have to worry about him beating anyone.

  58. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The Seawhawks probably figured Rosenhaus games earlier than the Bucs.

  59. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Some of the Old Timers on this blog- might recall I wanted us to Draft Cameron Jordan in the 2011 DRAFT–And went bat sh*t crazy, after we picked Adrian Clayborn. Lol

  60. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @tmaxcon

    Deal-Geter’ done!

  61. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    Tmax and Luv

The deal doesn’t sound bad except for one problem. Who is our backup QB.

Which FA gives you any warm and fuzzies. MG8 may not be a world beater but he is predictable, knows the offense and the receivers.

Now if you guys have a plan for backup QB then I’m with you two on Jordan.

  62. bucs4lyfe Says:

if you cant vouch for the accuracy of Stroud’s Twittering then why did you report his tweet about the bucs looking at greg hardy in the first place. someone has dr Jekyll, mr hyde syndrome

  63. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan

    Chase Daniels?

  64. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Rumor has it –that he will be released.

  65. ddneast Says:

Although I’m not sure what direction you are coming from YUNGRY, I certainly appreciated your humor.
If we could get all those players maybe the state would set up a satellite parole office at One Buc Place.

  66. ddneast Says:

Rosenhaus is working in the best interest of his client which is what he is supposed to be doing.
Possibly the Bucs said they were interested to the Cowboys would have to go into cap hell to try and sign him.
If you don’t want him, make the other team pay every cent they can muster up so they won’t have enough mooney to pay other players later.
    See Demarcus Murray.
Unless they teach Hardy how to follow blocking and throw the ball, the ‘Boys aren’t going anywhere.
They have the most overrated QB in the league and no running back.
    Good luck Cowgirls.

  67. KRNelson59 Says:

So I wonder who the Bucs are going to take with the first overall pick in 2016.

  68. berserker Says:

Great move guys. Who would want an elite DE in a system that requires it. Maybe our morals will get us a sack.

  69. ddneast Says:

All of you jerks bad mouthing the Bucs and refusing to listen to facts always have the comfort to hide behind your hypocrisy.
I can just hear you whining and bad mouthing the Bucs eight year if Hardy slapped a girl around and got suspended for life.
Or, because he is such a good positive influence in the locker room, starts a disruption and causes a split in the team.
Or, even better, turns into Michael Johnson because now he has all that money and no allegiance to the Bucs.
The whole pack of you are really so pathetic and the worst part about it is probably very few of you spend hard earned money to actually watch the team play at home.

  70. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

WHO “lost interest” is Academic. If you dangle enough MONEY, players suddenly become “interested” .
Licht failed us, again. This idiot spends the house on Collins and Johnson, who were outright reaches, with no recent numbers that ever warranted all we gave them.
Hell, Johnson barely had 5 sacks the year before he came here, and Collins was a freaking back up Tackle.

Greg Hardy was the real deal, a Man in the peak of his career, who had 15 sacks last year. He was a true game changing defensive end, exactly what the Tampa 2 needs so badly.

Signing him would have filled a need position for us, and allowed us to sign more offensive line help.

We have more money to spend then cash strapped Dallas did, yet we rolled over, and played dead 🙁

Along with allowing Bennett to walk, this will rank right up there with the many terrible mistakes these two clowns seem intent on making repeatedly.
