Few Escape Jerry Jones Hard Sell

March 18th, 2015

Joe’s not trying to pour warm beer on the chances of manbeast defensive end Greg Hardy wearing Tampa Bay colors this season, but Bucs fans need a dose of reality amidst the euphoria of their fantasy chase for sacks.

How many potential free agents spend extended time in Dallas like Hardy is, touring the renowned facilities with Jerry Jones wooing them on the famed “blue star” of Jerry’s World, and leave without a contract?

Joe’s having trouble thinking of one.

Of course, Team Glazer has the means — and the salary cap room — to beat an offer from Jones, and Team Glazer has plenty to sell, including a defense that suits Hardy, and a monster of an interior rusher to play next to him, and a nose tackle who gets after the passer, too. But Hardy must get out of Dallas first so the Bucs can have a real shot to compete.

Few know what’s in Hardy’s head and heart, and what he’s hearing from his agent, oily Drew Rosenhaus. But Joe’s not wagering on Hardy leaving Dallas.

    Me either joe…

FUK Jerry, his high horse and fake A$$ teeth!

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If letting Hardy’s agent know that we are offering a multi-year contract doesn’t at least warrant a Tampa visit…..nothing else would work….except perhaps Hardy seeing Joe’s poll.

  4. Broy34WantsHardyornowatch Says:

I don’t understand this I really don’t. Do I think we get him no? But did they reall need leverage knowing dallas isn’t gonna be able to make the best offer?

  5. Curtis Gatorboy Says:

    WE NEED THIS MAN

  6. mac Says:

Chances are slim and none… And slim just walked out the door… Boy are we going to suck again…

A rookie QB playing behind a horrible offensive line, three crappy running backs and a less than average defense led by Gerald “the China doll” McCoy…

Oh goody! Is it too late to start talking about the 2016 draft?

  7. DallasBuc Says:

Agreed Joe. Never thought he would make it to Tampa after stories of him visiting Dallas and Seattle first.
Bucs had plenty of opportunity to be first in line. They made different decisions. Come to think of it, decisions made by incompetent Lovie Smith and his lapdog Licht can only kindly be described as “different”!

  8. Bucbob1 Says:

In the end it’s all about the money. We have that advantage. Jerry Jones knows that if Hardy leaves without a contract, that he’ll sign with us.

  9. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Can’t blame him if he signs with Dallas, reality is both states have no income tax but the odds of getting a SB ring in Hardy’s career during this contract are (on paper anyway) far better with the Cowboys than with the Bucs…especially if Tampa drafts a rookie QB this year (either one of the top 2 QB prospects will almost assuredly need time to learn and adapt to the speed of the NFL game)

  10. Rob Says:

    He’s not coming to Tampa.

Dallas has a defense suited to him too – one that actually ranked in the top half of of the league last. They also have a playoff contender, a winning team.

They’ve got a real quarterback, a brand new state of the art stadium… the same benefit about no state income tax…

  11. StRicKn Says:

Licht to Hardy- #76 is available. No state tax. Best DT in the game! Easy shcedule on paper. Very close to being a VERY competitive team! best of all.. Playing the stinking Panthers twice a year and wiping the dirt with Cam Newton! !Go Bucs!

  12. MadMax Says:

I still have a feeling he’s going to be a Buc. They’re driving up the price. Dallas is going nowhere with Romo. I’ll take their O line though!!!

But he knows he’ll shine with us and GMC! He knows this! Plus we can pay him!

  13. Couch Fan Says:

^^ This is true which was why i was desperately hoping he wanted to get revenge on Cryolina a few times every year. But unfortunately that doesnt appear to the be the case.

  14. Tom Edrington Says:

Every fan should take off the rose colored glasses and ask:

Who would you rather play for?

    Frazier vs. Marinelli?

    Tough decision, eh?

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Why would anyone with character problems want to play for Lovie….where you can’t swear or yell “FHRITP” in the locker room?
    I guess….money is the only draw….

  16. Snook Says:

Texas doesnt’ have a state income tax either….

  17. BucsQcCity Says:

Dal lost Murray, Dez is pissed, romo is one hit away from major back surgery. Media drama every week.

Money talks and Tampa offers a less media driven atmosphere, he gets to play with GMC and LVD and gets the chance to beat CAR 2 times/ year. I’m not worried unless they try to make him a lowball offer

  18. Rob Says:

“Licht to Hardy- #76 is available. No state tax. ”

If Licht goes with that approach, Hardy’s going to assume he’s an idiot.

There’s no state tax in Texas either.

  19. rayjay1122 Says:

Having experienced living in Dallas Fort Worth as well as Tampa, unless you are a beach and salt water fishing fan, Dallas has more to offer as far as being a larger city. As previously stated by another fan, neither Texas nor Florida have state income tax, so that is a wash. The Cowboys are a much more popular team as far as a fan base quantity and national media perspective. Unless we really outbid them, I doubt he wears Pewter and Red this season. But I hope he does. We need to be able to win in the trenches at least on one side of the ball.

  20. Rob Says:

“I still have a feeling he’s going to be a Buc. They’re driving up the price. Dallas is going nowhere with Romo. I’ll take their O line though!!!”

Romo’s a top 10 QB and was a legitimate contender for MVP last year. The most stability at the position the Bucs can offer is the abstract hope that whichever QB they pick 1st overall won’t be a bust – which is far from a given.

  21. bucrightoff Says:

    Hmmm…

“You trust him to the extent that you don’t necessarily know what you’re going to get,” Hartsock said. “The Greg Hardy that was on the field was going to be a nightmare for the opposing team. But then you go in and everybody is in the hot tub or the cold tub after practice just shooting the breeze and the guy carries on a very reasonable, level-headed inquisitive type of conversation.

“But then there are other times when he’s just unmanageable. And that’s why I think things have gotten in trouble with his personal life. He’s going have to go a long ways to earn the trust of any organization, whether it be Dallas or any other franchise across the league.

  22. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“getting a SB ring in Hardy’s career during this contract are (on paper anyway) far better with the Cowboys than with the Bucs…”

Wow are we Bucs fans pessimists or what. I know that is the prevailing “wisdom” but I don’t understand why?

Which franchise won a Superbowl most recently. When was the last time the Cowboys were in a SB…an NFC final…was that when Romo fumbled a snap while serving as the holder?

This time last year there was speculation whether the Cowboys would change coaches…give up on Romo…so they tried one more year and had a good season. They were nowhere near the class of Seattle…N.E….Denver…and plenty of other teams were as good. One year after years of dysfunction.

Jerry is a drama mama! I’m not sure why anybody would want to play for him other than the $$$.

I get the argument that says Hardy might get better exposure in Dallas if he’s trying the one year ploy and then cash in. But I’m not sure he wouldn’t fare better in Tampa if that his strategy. He could either go to Miami or Tampa if he wants to play alongside a truly dominant DT…it’s either Suh or GMC and he and GMC already have a good relationship.

    I still feel it’s 50-50.

  23. Bucsfan4lyf Says:

Have fun Dallas dealing with this thug

“But then there are other times when he’s just unmanageable. And that’s why I think things have gotten in trouble with his personal life. He’s going have to go a long ways to earn the trust of any organization, whether it be Dallas or any other franchise across the league.

“His reputation has now become an Achilles heel. Trustworthy is kind of a sliding scale in the NFL. If you’re talented and you have the ability and some skills that no one else has, trustworthiness can be slid a little bit more. Like I said, there aren’t many people like him on the planet that can play and that can do the things that he does. But we are also in an NFL environment right now where any off-the-field liability is frowned upon very strongly.”

SIGN SELVIE INSTEAD AND DRAFT ANOTHER PASS RUSHER!!!

  24. Bruno Says:

Joe I hope you’re wrong. Mainly because drinking warm beer this early is not cool.

  25. bucrightoff Says:

^How would he fare better in Tampa? You think Revis makes $70 million at age 30 coming off playing well for a 7-9 Browns team? 0% chance. But coming off playing well (and being the critical piece to get them over the top) for the champs? Yeah that gets you paid.

And he gets no exposure in Tampa. One Thursday night game and that’s it. The Cowboys will be on primetime at least 6 times next year, probably 8 or more. Bucs have to overpay now to get him, a short deal is not going to get it done. This is why Rosenhaus is leaking stuff like he’s choosing between the Bucs and Tampa. He’s really not, Rosenhaus is trying to get Tampa to open up the vault.

  26. The original "Kevin" Says:

@ Rob, Last year was Dallas second year running Maranelli’s D. The first year they were horrible. The fact they were ranked as one of the better D’s last season shouldn’t have much to do with it. Playing for a contender yes….but him coming here in a weak division could certainly change that. Drew Brees has struggled the last two years and now he has NO Jimmy Gramhm. Atlanta LOST Koetter which Matt Ryan was thriving on and putting up Mike Glennonnlike numbers before he got there, and Caroilina will never win a SB with Cam. This year is our best shot. Get Hardy some way somehow, draft Winston, Let him sit and mature, and start Glennon to take the south in 2015.

    Done!!!

  27. Buccfan37 Says:

Do the Bucs really stand a chance against “America’s team”? This is a team the media bigwigs can’t get enough talking in on. The stinking cowpokes and their monument to greed, that ugly monstrosity of a stadium and that ugly monstrosity of an owner. Cowpokes and everything affiliated with them, go to hell.

  28. MadMax Says:

Im sorry, Im not a doctor, but it was aired a physical was going to take place this morning, and here we are, noon time….and still no go for Dallas.

He’s coming to Tampa….Im seeing right through this charade.

  29. OneLove Says:

    @Bruno

“Joe I hope you’re wrong. Mainly because drinking warm beer this early is not cool.”

Well the good news is that Joe is wrong a lot and most of the time that has been a good thing!(ex Johnny Football). So let’s stop being a bunch of pessimistic b!tches and start looking at the glass half full!!!

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have no earthly idea where Hardy would rather play….Sure, Dallas has some good things to offer….but so do we….Hardy could stand out as a superstar at Tampa….how long has it been since we’ve had a superstar at DE?

The most important thing to Hardy & his agent is Hardy’s long-term future….not this contract but the next one.

The only way to preempt that is to give him the future NOW!….offer him a long-term contract with built in incentives for the player and protections for the team.

From what I can tell, Dallas isn’t making that sort of offer (1 yr.)

  31. The original "Kevin" Says:

Glass cant be half full when the glass is broken….

This team needs a new glass

  32. OB Says:

I am willing to bet he plays here. Why? Because we play his old team the dumped him twice a year.

He wants revenge and he only gets it here plus we have the best NFL defensive tackle in McCoy playing nest to him. As you said we have cap room for him also.

  33. Rob Says:

“Which franchise won a Superbowl most recently. When was the last time the Cowboys were in a SB…an NFC final…was that when Romo fumbled a snap while serving as the holder?”

Neither team has a single player or coach left from their last Super Bowl team. The real question should be which team has been to the playoffs more recently?

  34. Killian Says:

Dallas can only give a 1 year contract. Why haven’t we offered him 5 or 6 years at 10-12 million per?

  35. Architek Says:

People and players alike want to be a part of something it’s easy to why playing with a star on your helmet is perceived as being endoctrinated into a phaternity.

Playing for Bucs is like playing for a contractor with little to no tenure or historic value.

I don’t expect Hardy to leave Valley Ranch.

  36. Java Says:

    2-14 or a playoff team?

National fan base or a dwindling one?

    Rod Marinelli or Leslie Frazier?

Tell me again why would any free agent choose the Bucs? Besides money?

  37. BucGator Says:

The longer this goes, the better for us…

  38. Phillip Says:

For anyone saying we can’t do anything to get him to leave Dallas and come talk to us.. The blame is ENTIRELY on the front office and coaching staff for even being in this situation in the first place.. They had plenty of time to get in touch with Hardy before Dallas and quite frankly Seattle did if they wanted him so badly.. I doubt some poll on JBF convinced them hey lets go after Hardy (No offense Joe).. They waited for whatever reason and now are most likely gonna miss out on signing him. Ya it’s great that we didn’t jump in head first into the FA pool again because we definitely tend to overspend on CFL quality players.. But a proven commodity at one of the most important positions in football doesn’t come around very often at a decent price especially one in his prime.. Doesn’t surprise me one bit after the last few years unfortunately…

  39. Dandood Says:

Guys I rarely ever post on here and I don’t know if it’s of any significance but I was looking up so some background info on hardy and on Wikipedia it has him listed as a member of the tampa bay Buccaneers !!!! Bad guy or not I hope this is true .

  40. MadMax Says:

1:03 pm EST. Still nothing from Dallas.

He’s coming to Tampa…..and I remember the posts saying the same thing about Revis…..just a matter of time.

  41. Bucforlife Says:

I thought Hardy’s deal was supposed to be announced this morning. Hope there is a fly in the Dallas ointment.

  42. MadMax Says:

@Dandood….its wikipedia and the internets….must be true.

    _____________________________________________________

Too low. One good year in Dallas or Seattle next year and he can get $15+million per year for the same term. It has to be a big time offer, Rosenhaus continuing to feed lies to the media about the Bucs tells you this. He’s trying to get them to take the bait. Great agent, bad person.

  44. Buc1987 Says:

I’m still hopeful that he’s coming.

  45. MadMax Says:

I cant go back that far to find my “Revis is coming” posts….but the feeling was the same as it is now. They know it already!!!!

  49. MadMax Says:

Im going with 2 years 15 mill/yr….8 mill signing bonus, 4 mill this year, 4 mill next! WTH else could we offer? Take it and be happy! (I love playing as a GM when I know I’d never hack it as one, lol)

  53. Dandood Says:

Yes anyone can edit Wikipedia everyone constantly says that but there is moderators who verify before they actually allow it to be shown on the page.

  54. DallasBuc Says:

From the Twitter machine “Per source, Bucs have lost interest in DE Greg Hardy. So unless someone else gets involved, he’ll apparently be a Cowboy.”

  55. BucIt941 Says:

Maybe he’s saving the best for last. He knows Tampa can offer him the most between the 3 so he is checking out the contender before weighing his option on money or a ring right now!

  56. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

    @ St Pete

I hate sounding so pessimistic, but the facts are a team needs to get in the playoffs to even have a shot at the SB…Dallas has been there recently, we not only failed to win the historically bad NFC South last year but had the worst record in the NFL. It truly pains me to admit it, but the Cowboys are a far better SB prospect…at this point anyway. Man it’s bad when even the Jags are probably a more appealing FA destination…time for a beer!

  57. ddneast Says:

Wonder how Demarcus Murray is taking all this.
Jerry jones says he doesn’t have the omey to pay me but he has the money to pay a domestic abuser.
    Talk about liars.
Of course the bigger liar you are , the better businessman you are, especially when it comes to lying to.your own employees.
Murray gives it up for the Cowboys last year, even playing with a broken hand, only to hear Jones lie to him about not having enough money to sign him.
Well without a running game this year, the Cowboys will have to go back to leaning on Romo who is possibly the most overrated QB in the league. All these years in the league and he has won 2, count them 2, opening round playoff games, the last one he shouldn’t have if the league hadn’t wanted the ‘boys to be in the next round so bad.
Besides this, I’m now beginning to hear Hardy isn’t the best person in the locker room.
Great, I can’t wait till he and Dez Bryant hit the town together one late night.

  58. bucrightoff Says:

^DeMarco, not DeMarcus (and you’ve made that mistake like 6 times now). And they have an elite OLine, at least 4 times as good as the Bucs line, so they’ll be fine running the ball. DeMarco led the league in yards BEFORE contact last year. They will sitll be blowing open huge holes next year too.
