Lovie Smith wants to retain guys who know his defense, and nickel cornerback Leonard Johnson is one of them.

Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune reports Johnson has re-signed a one-year deal.

The pride of Largo High, a Clearwater native, undrafted in 2012, will return for his fourth season.

So we have Johnson from Clearwater and Louis Murphy from St. Pete. Any other local stars on our squad?

  2. Ray Rice Says:

Leonard “I got burned again” Johnson!

I dont dislike this….but im not exactly jumping for joy. Im really thinking they are going to trade the number 1 pick and role with glennon next year. They could do a lot on both lines if they did. Mike Glennon is not a rookie and performed well playing under a towel boy calling plays. Imagine him with a strong line and koetter calling plays. Se would instantly be in a good position considering the shape atlanta and carolina are and the saints trading grahmn. I think thats what is going to happen

    This guy sucks

  5. Bucnnole Says:

    Pure garbage

  6. Dreambig Says:

Leonard Johnson – just good enough to close and tackle the receiver immediately after catching an 11 yard pass on 3rd and 10. Almost never good enough to stop him from catching it in the first place. Always a step behind.

  7. ddneast Says:

Someone took Michael10’s, Bucmole, and Ray Rice’s rattles away from them.
Dreambig, you are probably right and make your point effectively.
Still the young man plays hard and just because they signed him doesn’t mean he’s going to stick on the team.
I wish they would resign Clayborn. I just don’t see anyone better than him out there.

  8. Tom Edrington Says:

Yes, this is big, another player from the 2-14 campaign!

  9. The original "Kevin" Says:

I agree about clayborne. No reason to just let him walk. Sign him he was better than johnson and as good as cole when healthy. Hes had some injuries you cant predict that. Damarco murray finaly played a full season last year and did good. Just sign him already. If we are keeping l johnson and major wright then why not clayborne????

  10. Mike10 Says:

dd.. This story isn’t worth the typing. He sucks

  11. The Real Malloy Says:

Agree with “The Original Kevin”…they will roll with Glennon. We as fans want this too bad. There is no way The Glazers and L&L will grant us starving fans a Franchise Quarterback. Not for atleast another decade.

  12. Dreambig Says:

ddneast – I agree on Clayborn. He is decent when healthy. If we get a great DE on the other side, he can still be effective.

  13. Thunder Sack Says:

I say good signing. He started playing well toward the end of the season when he learned his responsibilities in the defensive scheme.

If someone better outplays him? So be it!

  14. worsethanlastyear Says:

^^^^^ clearly worse than last year this ship has run a ground!!!

  15. Dex Fields Says:

It’s only a one year deal guys relax! The Bucs still can bring in a rookie if one is there that they have on their draft board or even an undrafted rookie. The right rookie can beat out Johnson because his lack of speed and poor agility.

  16. Poor Decision Making Rob Lowe Says:

I think it’s a bad move to re-sign Rainey and Johnson.

  17. passthebuc Says:

Signing means little. If the contract is not guaranteed he may not make the final roster. Only 10 more months before the rebuild.

  18. Ray Rice Says:

    @DDN

Stop running up your parents electricity bill and move out the basement.

You have got to be kidding me
