With The No. 1 Pick In The 2015 NFL Draft …

December 7th, 2014
Might Team Glazer have a powerful vote in NFL Draft planning?

Might Team Glazer have a powerful vote in NFL Draft planning?

The Buccaneers are on the clock. Sort of.

No NFL team has a record worse than the Bucs’ 2-11 mark. And Tampa Bay — for now — is looking good with a miserable strength of schedule, the tiebreaker for draft position.

How bout them Raiders!

Donald Penn and Derek Carr and Oakland’s jelling offensive line absolutely spanked their physical, crosstown rival 49ers this afternoon, 24-13.

That moved the Raiders to 2-11, tied with the Bucs, Jags, Titans and Jets. And only the Titans and Jets are in the hunt for a quarterback.

Yes, the thought of the No. 1 overall pick is exciting. The Bucs are desperate for a franchise QB prospect. The No. 1 pick might even help the Bucs sign an offensive coordinator worth a damn.

Joe wonders whether Team Glazer is salivating at the thought of what a premium pick could mean for the franchise. And would they want a role in maximizing the opportunity?

For those keeping score at home, the Jets are at the Titans next Sunday.

  1. The Buc Realist Says:

I always new that lovie was bad, but not overal #1 bad. way to start coach. here is too the “hot seat” next year!!

  2. Ben Says:

Screw Jamies! Mariota is where it’s at!

  3. Todd Says:

Please let this happen lose out bucs please

  4. bee Says:

The team can only go up from here right? Right?

  5. Todd Says:

    Please draft mariota

  6. jh Says:

Over the past several years, the draft has been the Bucs Super Bowl but we seem to always fall short. Can this be the year we finally go all the way to top draft pick? It would surely be the silver lining on this turd of a season.

  7. Architek Says:

They will screw the 1st pick up too!

Oh and it’s a pleasure watching Carr grow and kick butt with a less than decent roster –

    Hmmmm

  8. bucrightoff Says:

We can’t let Lovie draft a QB he’ll ruin him. Get a real offensive coach who can maximize the possibility for success for the QB.

  9. 77 bassguitarist Says:

    @ realist..LOL

  10. ihateloviesmith Says:

and even the great stoneface smith and his wonderful general manager, will do their best to screw this up, go ahead guys I know you can do it, and we are all counting on you.

  11. Java Says:

The Bucs never draft the player I want them too. So why will this year be any different?

Fans want a QB, loser Lovie will give us a DE or CB.

    It’s a Bucs life

  12. Nick B. Says:

Please Lovie don’t botch this. Number 1 pick the Bucs get whatever player (hopefully, better be a QB..) that they want. Franchise changing. You win 1 game and look at the Raiders. They’re all the way down to 5. Oh and go Titans! they’re the closest in the tie breaker so hope they beat the Jets

  13. Adrian Says:

    Get Mariota here!!

  14. NJBucsFan Says:

    we will F it up

  15. Ray Rice Says:

YUCS got garbage a$$$$$$$$ ASJ and Raiders got Carr in the 2nd round. I thought they would trade up to get him. Now they’re stuck with the Fat Lazy Guy guy that speaks real eloquently and has a ton of upside and potential. WTF!

  16. richardtyson Says:

“The No. 1 pick might even help the Bucs sign an offensive coordinator worth a damn.” Correct. I would say draft Mariota because of his ability to scramble. If we had a good O line I would go with Winston. I would like to see the Bucs pick up an O coordinator before the draft though.

  17. ufcguy Says:

If we Don’t Draft a qb pick one I say we protest till lovie is fired

  18. Dean Says:

Here is what we need to do. Don’t blow this…..use this time to evaluate every young member of this team and determine who is going to stay and who has to go next year. Set yourself up to completely analyze this entire squad (practice squad included) to really know what you have going forward.
If the situation is really as bad as it looks, them L&L will know. Try moving around our offensive line to see if our high priced left tackle can cut it as a guard and salvage something.
We are looking at 9 positions (minimum) that need to be filled:
2 DE’s, Middle linebacker, LT, 2 Guards, Center, QB and Punter.
That’s just to make us competitive and we WILL have the money to again try some Free Agency maneuvers….Remember, you can only fill 3 or 4 of those spots in the draft. The rest have to come from free agency or trades.
One last thing….Lovie you have screwed up everything else with this team so far….please show us you can at least lose a couple more games to guarantee we have the draft position to make some big noise for next year. Otherwise, the venders will outnumber the fans in the stands.

  19. tgreg Says:

For at least the 33rd time, I ask what QB that ya’ll have pined for in the last decade has turned a team around other than Luck? It doesn’t happen but once in a decade and won’t happen the next draft any more than it did in 2014

  20. rayjay1122 Says:

What were the Raiders thinking. Lol. Thanks Oakland, now we control our own draft spot destiny. Now hopefully they don’t screw it up with the wrong pick. We have literally so many needs that I don’t think that much will change after this off season. We have to make better organizational decisions and the coaching needs a complete overhaul at least on offense and special teams. I am also conflicted who to target at QB. I am pretty nervous that Winston will either be a bust at the NFL level and or not be able to stay out of trouble. Have not watched Mariota much but I think with the desperate condition the Bucs are in at QB especially, that we must get the right guy.

  21. Mr. Patrick Says:

Lovie is way too conservative to draft Mariotta and run the spread offense that he needs to be successful in. No QB is going to look good in this horrible offensive system behind this soft swiss cheese line. Plus Lovie doesn’t like young QB’s

  22. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

On the field, Mariota is RGIII, Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick.

Winston is more Andrew Luck and Big Ben

It’s not even close….Winston will be a super star and Mariota will fizzle. OB’s in the “one look and run” class don’t last long in this league.

  23. BigMacAttack Says:

I like Mariota too and I don’t think any of the other 3 teams can stop the Ducks’ offense.

  24. Dean Says:

tgreg….you are absolutely right about rookies turning their team around in the first year. But do you want to wait another year or two with this crap that is being put on the field. The sooner we start that development process, the sooner we can finally start to turn this nightmare around. It’s like removing a bandage….initially it really smarts, but feels so good afterwards.

  25. BigMacAttack Says:

    Trade for Drew Brees.

  26. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

I really want Lovie to do well and the Bucs team to be awesome. I unlike so many commentor’s here think that Lovie is a great coach not good but great and this Bucs team will be tight in time. BUT, I understand the venom thrown his way and that some of it stems from the fact that many think that L&L will draft a DE, MLB or DT with the 1st pick. I think that’s a possibility too and I feel that Lovie should be fired if he doesn’t take a QB with the 1st pick. Again, I want Lovie to be the coach for the Bucs and lead them to their 2nd superbowl but he and Angelo screwed up so many 1st round picks taking other positions (mostly on D) that I have no idea what he might do. Those bad decisions made him have to trade for cutler and he got Lovie & Angelo fired. PLEASE LOVIE SHOW THAT YOU LEARNED FROM YOUR MISTAKES AND MAKE THE SMART CHOICE, “TAKE THE QUARTERBACK”. It will allow you at least 2 more years without being on the hot seat!

  27. The don Says:

4 ex bucs starting on defense for patriots

  28. CNote80 Says:

Oh YEAH so excited for Mr. Winston. Mariota seems more of a project to me. Winston is more pro-ready. No question here DRAFT Jameis He is already starting for me in Madden 15. I’m willing to deal with the off-field issues. I’m sick of freaking losing because of ineptness at the QB position.

  29. Pelbuc Says:

Dean is absolutely dead on right. Unfortunately, I have no confidence at all that L&L know how to draft, let alone trade. Forget FA signings and the only way you don’t draft Mariota or Winston is if some team offers a kings ransom, I.e. RD3. Get rid of EDS, Mankins, McCown, Martin, Cousins, the Oline coach, special teams coach, get Marinelli to replace Frazier. Try to trade Collins and MJ and strip LOVIE of personnel decisions. Get a solid OC and draft guru. The hot seat starts the day after this seasons last game.

  30. The Buc Realist Says:

I am just glad to know that as of right now, The bucs are the Worst team in the NFL!

and that is what my eyeball test has been telling me all year long!!!

  31. Babaloo Says:

There are 5 teams sitting at 2-11. These teams are the Bucs, Raiders, Jets, Jags and the Titans. The Redskins are sitting at 3-10.

Of these teams, the Titans play both the Jets and the Jags one time before the year it up. This means in the best case scenario the Titans win only one of those games. If this happens then we can be assured of at least two of those teams having 3 wins and drafting AFTER us, provided we lose out.

You KNOW the Redskins will be drafting a qb in the first round. They’ve made it as obvious as they can that they want ‘Gruden’s guy’ rather than RG3. Of the others the Jets and the Titans are the major first round Qb threats…

Is Zach Mettenberger ‘The Guy’ in Tennesee or not? Would Mariotta, Winston or another top tier guy draw them in to draft a Qb in the first round? We won’t know for some time. Mettenberger has played decently though, so we may be safe there.

The Jets will probably have a new coach who will take his own Qb high in the draft. Or they could fool everybody and take one in rd 3-4- but rest assured they WILL take one.

This brings us to the Jags. With Bortles, there is no way they draft a Qb high in the draft.

The Raiders got their guy last year in Carr. They will not take a QB high in this draft.

So- all of this being said…this is the BEST, absolute BEST chance for us as Bucs fans to get a ‘Franchise Quarterback’. The guy taken has to pan out obviously, but of the other teams involved with the same record as the Bucs, only one is a legit threats to take a Qb ahead of us (And I’m not sure how the draft order plays out if the season were to end today).

The Titans are a maybe. They can play themselves out of it by winning one of the head to head games. Either the Jets or the Jags could play themselves out in the same manner by beating the Titans. Best case scenario here is the Jets beat the Titans and the Titans beat the Jags.

So all we have to do it lose the quota for Mariotta.

  32. Aceofaerospace Says:

    Suck for the Duck.

  33. BucPuck Says:

I swear if we draft Winston I will sell my season tickets. Marriota is Rodgers, Winston is Ryan Leaf

  34. john mason Says:

Everyone remember this….If we get the first pick..we will also have the first pick in every round of the draft….thats going to set us up to pick up some good young O-linemen….Draft Marcus…he can at least run from the passrush until the O-line is fixed.

  35. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Yes!!

This may be the best thing to happen to the Bucs since 2003.

While no pick is a sure thing, the point is to be in a position to pick the best guy. As long as we’re #1, no one can trade ahead of us.

  36. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

If we get Mariota, I’ll get season tickets again.

  37. buccanAy Says:

….with the 1st pick, Tampa Bay trades its 1st pick to Philadelphia for this years 1st and 2nd, and next years 1st and 3rd, and begin the process of building a freakin team.

  38. The Buc Realist Says:

    @bonzai

Yes, its a Celebration. The bucs are the worst!!!

    #1 here we come!!!

  39. BucsfaninChina Says:

Knowing how the Joes are “told ya so” type of fellows, expect to see the clip of Penn catching his third TD pass sometime in the very near future. Mike Jenkins gahh!!!!!

  40. John Sapp Says:

This is what really p!$$e$ me OFF. Schiano should have coached this year, the final year of his contract. 1) Good chance we would not have wasted so much money on these FA busts as we have done this year. 2) Jim Harbaugh will be available in 2015, just about every source is reporting this. 3) We passed on Manziel but more importantly we passed on Bridgewater. Would love to know who Schiano-Dominick would have drafted. 4) Could of would have avoided the Tedford debacle 5) Still cannot fathom how EDS is an “upgrade” over Zuttah????? 6) How does Jacques Smith (league minmum salary) have double the numbers of the multi-millonaire Michael “invisible man” Johnson? I do not know who deserves the most severe “B!*$&% slap, Glazer Brat 1, Glazer brat 2, Lovie, Licht, all the above or someone else. We are Y-E-A-R-S away from having a team that can even sniff .500

  41. JJV Says:

Relax, our head coach will do the right thing. In Lovie We trust.

  42. DallasBuc Says:

Do-no-wrong Lovie and his lapdog Licht will find a way to screw up #1 overall pick. They would pick a long snapper or place kick holder. Look at what they have done to this 4-12 football team in the last 11 months. They do not know what the hell they are doing. The signs were there early on. It was clear after free agency and the results have been piling in since August. The people running the show are incompetent. It is malpractice to watch them field a 2 win team and then let them pick 1st overall. That’s just re-enforcing bad behavior.

  43. NewTampaChris Says:

There aren’t too many times when and GM and a head coach BOTH survive to use a #1 overall pick….

  44. JJV Says:

Yet there are people that think Lovie is great. Not to mention polls show 50% confidence. Sad but true.

  45. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @The Buc Realist

Yes. They are the worse. For these last 4 weeks of the season. And then, with a real QB, two drafted OL guys, an OL FA, and a safety or two, we will become the best. For. A. Long. Time.

Being the worse this season is for the best.

  46. 87ForJameisOrMariota Says:

    Jameis.

  47. sho-nuff Says:

there is nothing i believe in less than this organization with the top pick…

  48. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

I do not trust Liar and Lapdog to make the right decision, they have given us no reason to with all the terrible moves to date.

That being said, it’s Mariota or Winston, or L&L should walk the plank. 😉

  49. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @NewTampaChris

I’m all for Licht getting the axe. He has no skills for the job at all.

Lovie should not go though. He didn’t get the staff he preferred. He wanted Rod, had to settle for Frazier. He wanted Tedford, got Arroyo. He wanted McCown to help groom a QB worth having. He was stuck with Glennon.

We need an offensive guru for OC, amnd just as Dungy was told hands off with the Colts, Lovie should be hands off. He and Rod can focus on defense. And ST.

  50. jo_mama Says:

With the first pick in the draft Lovie finds a way to screw it up.

  51. Kory Chapple Says:

@joe. Can we please stop the Winston photos and following him for the Bucs. Oregon’s Mariota is a more solid human being than Winston and a better ball player. Please revise your “watch” for a real possibility that would benefit the community.

  52. Jim Says:

You could put the second coming of Peyton Manning behind that line and go 4-12.

  53. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ buccanAy
Very close I think, but also with Nick Foles involved

  54. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Dean Says
“We are looking at 9 positions (minimum) that need to be filled:
2 DE’s, Middle linebacker, LT, 2 Guards, Center, QB and Punter.”

One defensive end. Michael Johnson is here to stay for at least 2 more years because of his contract. Also, he has had injury issues all season. If we get a good opposite DE, that,s all the dline needs.

We also do not need a MLB. Foster is having an outstanding season when healthy.

You can’t replace that ,many in a year and strike gold on all of them. That was the mistaken belief this year.

And you forgot about two safeties. Barwen is gone and Goldson isn’t earning what he’s paid.

  55. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    @Jim

True, which is why after a 1st round QB, they should heavily invest in the O-line and D-line.

  56. todd Says:

Would they trade it to the eagles ?

  57. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Personally, I would feel better if all the teams behind us won another game. Lovie might be tempted to play Glennon, and Glennon might have ONE win in him.

  58. Sam Says:

Don’t get your hopes up. We’ll win a couple and screw this up. This team always screws up…

  59. Mr. Patrick Says:

The Glazers have to be wondering how after spending all of those millions of dollars on Lovie, Licht, that coaching staff and all of those high priced free agents that they ended up with this horrible product.

  60. todd Says:

You know lovie wants one more win he wants the 3rd pick so he can’t get mariota or Winston

  61. MadMax Says:

With the #1 pick, we trade down! Too many holes. I’d like Winston or Mariotta, but we need O line help….trading down can address that and we can still get Bryce Petty.

  62. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

Goldson should be cut in favor of younger, cheaper, and more productive Keith Tandy.

Collins and EDS should be kicked to the curb as well (though I’m not sure Collins guaranteed $$$ so like Ghost Johnson we might be stuck with him).

I hate Mankins for the way he has acted since coming here, and believe he is still capable of another season or two of good play. But he will likely be cut as his contract is way too big and no way will he restructure. He will demand release and go crying back to his daddy and boyfriend Belicheat and Brady.

Might have to hit FA for a SS, maybe a slot reciever and nickel corner, and definitely a returner.

Cut Koenen and draft a punter late.

    Just my armchair GM opinion.

  63. tgreg Says:

@ Dean it smarted pretty bad when our former “Franchise QB” fell off the face of the earth as well. No one will listen to the logic but Glennon fared better than any QB last draft or this, even if we think he looks goofy.

Again, listen to Beckles analysis last week. Very well reasoned with great examples.

Frankly I don’t care. I will never go to a home game as long as Lovie the Liar is here. I truly hope the rumors of Glennon to the Saints are true

  64. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

I think Glennon could beat the Aints or the Kitties. He damn near pulled off an upset in the Superdome.

  65. Capt.Tim Says:

    Wow.
You guys really believe you are fans?
Most of you just come here, to anonymously insult men, who would beat you to death if you had the guts to say it to their face.
    Pathetic

We are rebuilding a team that has drafted horribly, and sucked, for 8 years.
    It’s gonna take time.
    You didn’t know that?
    Then you are an idiot.

Just glad to see we drafted some talent this year. That’s the start.
An offensive Co-ordinator, a couple more lineman- a DE or two.

    The return of Buc pride
It’s just around the corner- thanks to Lovie Smith

  66. tgreg Says:

Drafted horribly? Like McCoy? David? All the quality players Lovie gave away in an anti-Schiano knee jerk? Give me all Lovie’s cast-offs and we are way ahead of the game. Lovie is a moron

  67. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Step to fix team :

Fire OC (QB Coach), OL Coach, ST Coach, and DC.

Hire Rod Marinelli, who will be available.
Hire a good OC and let him pick his QB Coach and OL Coach.

Trade Vincent Jackson for a 2nd rounder

    1st round – QB

    2nd round #1 – OG
    2nd round #2 – Center

    3rd round, draft a Safety

    4th round #1 – OT
    4th round #2 (?) – DE

    5th round – WR

  68. johnnytheMOON Says:

Glennon was only beat in regulation in 2 of his 5 games …Dont play him if you want the number one pick as i think he could pull a upset …with McCown we know we get a couple turnovers a game….

  69. DallasBuc Says:

Bonzai- why do you keep saying that we hire Marinelli? He has a job in Dallas.

  70. CC Says:

    In Lovie we bust.

  71. DallasBuc Says:

Frazier doesn’t need to be fired. He is only running Lovie’s defense. If you want the guy that runs the defense fired then you want Lovie fired.

  72. Mr. Patrick Says:

But remember, Glennon is the QB of the future. Lovie said so

  73. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @tgreg

That’s bull. Lovie needed cap room and the Bucs OL WAS over paid. JASON LICHT cut those players (or traded them), and he did it for good reason.

Sure, some of them are playing okay a year later…for a lot less money. Zuttah was the biggest mistake, but Penn and Joseph? Had to go.

Regis? We all knew he was a one year deal. He did okay, but he wasn’t worth $16m.

Lovie used the entire draft on offense. Because of that, it is much closer to completion. A QB and OL and it is done.

Johnson and GMC have both been playing injured, along with Foster. Banks is improved. Verner is good enough.

We’re not as far as you think.

  74. DallasBuc Says:

“It’s not about the future. It’s always about the future”

  75. MadMax Says:

@Capt Tim, I’ll say how I feel to anyone’s face. And no, they wouldnt beat me to death because they’re probably better than that unlike you. Grow up dude and learn how to handle criticism!

  76. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Jim Says
“You could put the second coming of Peyton Manning behind that line and go 4-12.”

Which is why we draft OL directly after, and seek some in FA. We certainly won’t get a quality QB in FA.

  77. MadMax Says:

Vjax may get us a 4th at most.

  78. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Lol, Madmax

It would carry more weight if you didn’t hide your real name. Dude was right.

I used to use my real name….but Joe took a disliking to me 😉

  79. ufcguy Says:

We need a offensive coordinator. Sign Jason Pierre Paul or Greg hardy and I’ll be happy. Resign clayborn put him back on his original c side where the guy had 7 freaking sacks his first year. I almost want to choke this staff for the shit they have done this year.

  80. tgreg Says:

CAP room! We are still under! And there is no evidence they asked the past, better performing, OL to renegotiate.

It all goes back to Lovie’s anti-Schiano bias and his snide “We were 4-12”

Well the moron won’t see 4-12

  81. Jameis #1 Says:

Winston will prove all you haters wrong when he beats Marriotta in the Rose Bowl and is the much better quarterback. The reason you haters don’t want Winston has nothing to do with on the field. Marriotta is a system QB who won’t be Able to read NFL defenses

  82. MadMax Says:

Wtf you talking about Bonzai? Im not that anonymous, Ive even made some friends here who Ive met up with in Greenville SC…I usually go to Carolina Ale house downtown….my first name is Max and Im a loud Buc fan, many know me there, not hard to spot, white guy 6’1 220….

  83. MadMax Says:

But I get you Bonzai 😉

  84. MadMax Says:

I want Winston!! He’s NFL Ready!

  85. tgreg Says:

    Prison ready

  86. MadMax Says:

lol….he’ll calm down….hopefully anyway, it would be a shame to see that talent wasted.

  87. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

I think a great scenario for the Bucs is if they draft Winston, and sign Rob Chudzinski as OC. Rob was OC of the Panthers when Cam Newton was drafted and when he left their offense as a whole regressed.

Winston, to me, is most comparable to Newton. Same attitude, same size, same playing style, same Heisman trophy, same National Championship ring, and even both had legal troubles.

It’s just my opinion, but I think they would fit very well together, and depending on the O-line next season, the run game would also get going with Martin and Rainey just like it did with DeAngelo Williams abd Jonathon Stewart.

  88. Walter White Says:

    @ tgreg

    Lol yeah he is

  89. bucrightoff Says:

Revis is playing elite again. Considering what we’ve gotten from Verner and Johnson for the same price, would rather have Revis and Jacquies Smith.

  90. Mr. Patrick Says:

The more I watch Winston and Mariotta, the more I like Bryce Petty

  91. MadMax Says:

Bryce Petty is also NFL ready.

  92. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Jim said: “You could put the second coming of Peyton Manning behind that line and go 4-12.”

And Jim is right, the Bucs do need a QB but also have to rebuild the OL (along with some other glaring needs on the DL but that is another issue). So say they do get the 1st overall pick; then perhaps they could trade with someone like the Deadskins who will be picking in the top 5 as well and let them grab Winston, Mariota, the kid from Mich. State, Hundley or whichever QB Dan Snyder, Gruden and lapdog Allen fall in love in during the combines. That should get the Skins top 5 pick and probably their 2nd rounder at least and possibly some more compensation to boot. Bucs could still get their qb in the top 5 or the best OT available and now have 2 more picks in the top 35 plus the top pick to open round 3 to get what they couldn’t with the trade down 1st from the trade partner…. But first the Bucs have to finish 2-14, as was shown today in the SF/Raider and NO/Panther matchups, anything is possible but the Packer game is a guaranteed L, Carolina and NO are the potential wins but both are suddenly in the division hunt laughingly enough; the Saints could be playing the Bucs for the division title and who knows with Carolina but it likely they will bury the Bucs 41-10 like they did the Saints today; just saying that if it benefits the Bucs to go 2-14 then they’ll go 3-13; it has been that kind of year…. Last year that Detroit win cost them 4 draft slots, luckily they got Evans…. In 1989, the Bucs won a meaningless game vs Detroit to end the season: winner picked 6th and the loser picked 3rd in the upcoming draft: Bucs got Broderick Thomas and Detroit got Barry Sanders: that ought to be incentive enough to lose!

  93. P'cola Buc Says:

    Play not IOTA….to get MARIOTA!!

  94. P'cola Buc Says:

Should read “Play not an IOTA….to get MARIOTA”

  95. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

    Mutiny for Mariota^^^

  96. Howard Cosell Says:

Sit McCoy, Evans, Vjax, Goldson, Banks, David and the rest
of the good players for the remainder of the season.
    Draft number one!

  97. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

This is what would happen to mariota: Mariota runs for first down and is hit as he makes it but is slow to get up. Now that his wheels are slowed and not a big factor he must become a pocket passer but his 1st instinct is to run under duress. So he either takes the sack or throws an inaccurate ball to avoid the hit (McCown). On the other side: Winston needs 3 yards to get a Bucs 1st down the rush comes hard and he side steps the linebackers don’t come up because they know he’ll throw over the top. So they wait to tackle but that hesitation is all Winston needs to make the correct choice.

This Bucs team will be .500 next season with mariota as the Qb. The running game will be better because of his threat to scramble but the passing game will suffer causing Evans to look like he is regressing. Mariota will scramble when he should throw causing a wide open Evans to get frustrated on the sidelines and prompting some people here to say that he has a bad attitude. Winston is the best and safest choice to make and you all should no this. You won’t win alot of games scoring 30+ points with mariota but you will be better with great defense, special teams and a running game. But when the defenses start to bottle the pocket taking away his scrambling the offense will look like it does now. Winston would be good for the running game and would keep Evans and the rest of the receivers involved. C’mon people you see it, I know you do

    From NFL.com:

Prior to the Rams’ 24-0 win over the Redskins on Sunday, Fisher sent Janoris Jenkins, Michael Brockers, Zac Stacy, Stedman Bailey, Greg Robinson, and Alec Ogletree to midfield for the coin toss. All six of those players were acquired as a result of the Rams’ blockbuster Robert Griffin III trade with the Redskins in 2012.

I don’t see the Jets or Titans giving up as much as the Skins did if the Bucs are going to trade back .

  101. Todd Says:

Get mariota and start to build a team around him! get a o lineman in rounds 2 and 3.

only in tampa is losing acceptable.

We’ve got all offseason to do that. Let’s see who the new offensive coordinator is first. That should happen sometime in January.

    Patience, grasshopper.

    @Nate

Yeah, I’m hoping we can workout a trade with Philly (Skip Gets Mariota)

*We Snag Nick Foles+Some Extra Picks.

And since Philly has been looking for a safety to fit their 3-4 scheme

    *Trade
    Dashon Goldson (2015) $8,000,000
    • Projected Dead Money – $4,000,000
    • Projected Cap Gain/Loss – $4,000,000

    *For

    Evan Mathis 2015 $6,500,000
    • Projected Dead Money – $ $2,000,000

  108. Todd Says:

if we trade the first pick to the eagles only way i do it is if we get foles there 1st and 2nd rounder this year and there first next year and 3rd next year. plus I want Brandon Graham as well make them over pay for mariota!

  109. MariotaOrWinstonOrWalkdaPlank Says:

I’d want Brandon Boykin from the Eagles. Great nickel corner and great return man.

  110. OB Says:

Lovie proves he is number one, if he can just keep it down.

  111. lurker Says:

“For at least the 33rd time, I ask what QB that ya’ll have pined for in the last decade has turned a team around other than Luck? It doesn’t happen but once in a decade and won’t happen the next draft any more than it did in 2014”

no one person will turn the team around…exceptin’ a new headcoach. but qb is the most important, hardest to fill, and biggest hole. carr, bortles, or bridgewater would have improved our team and it’s future.

How do you define “turned a team around?” That’s why nobody’s answering you. Matt Ryan sure changed the Falcons’ fortunes and got them to within 10 yards of the Super Bowl, and Cam Newton delivered a division title in his third season on top of rookie records. Some guys named Flacco and Kaepernick have been damn impressive, too. There are others. Not sure what you’re seeking.–

  112. lurker Says:

    in lovie we suck

  113. Todd Says:

no mariota won’t turn us into a contender right away lurker! but it’s a start! get him then as the years go build around him get a line improve the defense as mariota improves as well.

  114. Milenko Says:

What sucks is, we will get the first pick and trade it away. Lovie isn’t going to put his job more on the line with a rookie QB. If by some lucky chance we draft a QB, Lovie will sit him the first year to learn from a old ass backup QB who isn’t even at the most basic level.

  115. Hawk Says:

Well, just looking at the NFC South, Ryan, Newton, and Brees haven’t exactly “carried the team on their back” or “elevated the players around them” this year (nor last year for Newton and Ryan). The Falcons are the ONLY team that has a ghost of a chance at a winning record… in the sorriest division in the league. Maybe getting extra picks and drafting O-linemen will be the better move. There are likely to be FA veteran QBs this off-season that have a better resume than McCown did. There is NO WAY to fix all the holes on this team, in one year. It looks like Lovie tried, and made it worse. We will see if it was just bad luck/evaluations or S.O.P.

  116. RickV Says:

Please don’t screw this up Bucs. 3 games away from the #1 pick.

  117. MadMax Says:

We just might win the panthers game….they’re riding high and partying after stomping the aints….would be a damn though shame if Lovie screwed us out of our 1st pick of the draft…

Sit McCoy, David, Evans, hell even sit Patrick Murray, let the other guy kick FG’s
