With The First Pick In The 2015 NFL Draft …

December 28th, 2014

jameis 1103It’s official.

The Bucs’ offense adopted the fetal position in the second half today and lost. Joe wonders if Team Glazer picked up the red phone at halftime.

That’s for the history books. Now it’s time to celebrate.

The Bucs are on the clock and, barring absolute insanity, the Bucs will have the quarterback of their dreams on the roster at the end of April. No sloppy seconds. They’ll get their guy.

The front office is smiling. Simple as that.

Now it’s time to hire the right offensive guru to build the first great offense of Lovie Smith’s head coaching career.

That’s the real clock that’s ticking.

  3. 1bucfan88 Says:

    Bucs are on the clock!

Do the right thing Glazers and fire Lovie now! You can still do this right!

  4. Aceofaerospace Says:

That had better be the last time I have to root for my beloved Bucs to lose. DON’T BLOW IT LOVIE!

  5. Todd Says:

    Yes!!!!!!!

  6. deminion Says:

Fire Lovie hire Pep Hamilton imo

  7. bucrightoff Says:

Trade the #1 pick and the #2 pick to the 49ers for Jim Haurbaugh and their entire offensive line.

  8. BucFanForever Says:

May Lovie and Licht and the Bucs have luck and foresight this offseason. 2014 football(for them) and now starts the 2015 season. Now it is time to win.

  9. Lovie equals 2015 Blackouts Says:

    Marcus Marriotta.

But still… McCown played like a rookie. It will be ugly for several more years.

We may end up like we were with Freeman, Dilfer, Testaverde etc…

  10. Howard Cosell Says:

    Awesome.
Now we can trade down for o-linemen and sign Cutler.

  11. Curse of Gruden Says:

Joe, when are starting the pole showing support for a trade for Manziel?

  12. Joseph Mamma Says:

By the time this team has a great anything, I think Lovie will be long gone by then.

  13. Jason Says:

WOOHOO!!! Great game, and a nail-biter!
Today was a serious Backwards Day, me and a Saints fan were each rooting for our respective teams to lose (he wants a higher draft pick too), but the Bucs won (the first overall pick)!!!

  14. JMN Says:

I feel like the Bucs won something out of this horrendous season. I am excited about the #1 pick!

  15. Florida Hillbilly Says:

    Pick or Trade, We Win!

  16. deminion Says:

    Draft the nole!

  17. Lefty Says:

Fire Mrs. Howell – that was the worst season on record

  18. Bucsforlife Says:

I knew we could count on McCown. Thanks Josh.

  19. bucs55 Says:

I think chip Kelly is willing to trade the farm for mariota let him do a Ricky Williams trade with us for him all the picks this year and the next 2 years of first and seconds

  20. Jimmer Bob Says:

Mariota is the smart pick. But Lovie is a bad decision making machine.

  21. Another J Says:

We deserve the first pick after the Season that We’ve endured here in Tampa Bay!

  22. buc4life1979 Says:

Atleast our Bucs managed to do SOMETHING right this season….Given all the “swings and misses” and complete lack of offensive direction or strategy, losing and winding up with the #1 overall pick was THE ONLY thing that could happen to end this season with a positive note going forward…defensive diamonds in the rough and #13 aside.

  23. MadMax Says:

Just to clear it up, Harbaugh is Michigan’s new HC.

  24. Wes Says:

As Joe said major building starts today with evaluating and interviewing potential OC’s now that they no exactly which quarterback they will draft.

  25. Buc-O's 82 Says:

If they choose that POS , I WILL CANCEL MY SEASON TICKETS SINCE 82. He is nowhere in the ballpark of Marcus

  26. MadMax Says:

All I can say is I wont be disappointed if we draft Leonard Williams over a QB. That guy would solidify our D line pass rush!

Theres more than 2 QB’s in this draft.

  27. ihateloviesmith Says:

this was the perfect game for the bucs to start their 2nd and third string players against a starting NFL club for player evaluation going into next year, and securing their 1st pick, that should have been the story line and game plan, and barring any miracle they would not have had a chance, thus perfectly executing the two points I just made, securing the pick and evaluation, does this not make sense, and then in comes lovie smith, with his senseless, mindless, stubborn ways, and actually try and win the game, and almost pull off a win in a no win scenario, I sure am glad we were playing a team that could score some points, or the 1st pick would have been a goner. he almost screwed us again, and honestly he probably will come draft day, this is why I say FIRE THIS MORON NOW!!!!!!!!!

  28. Jerseybucsfan Says:

Please no smokescreen just trade Glennon and let it be known who you want we have the first pick no need for a poker face

  29. Wes Says:

I am so happy this painful season is over and now I will enjoy the changes that occur on the coaching staff and player personnel and all the debating on players from my fellow Buccaneer fans.

    LET IT BEGIN

  30. BucFanForever Says:

The one day where a loss feels as good as a win!

  31. Luther Says:

Guys, why in the hell would we trade the pick when we don’t have a QB. Where do you think our next starter comes from. We need to pick a QB and do it from the number 1 slot. No messing around with trading back and all that nonsense. The sensible thing is to draft the QB with the 1st pick and use any extra pick along with the 2nd round pick and trade back into the 1st for another pick.

  32. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Wes Says
“As Joe said major building starts today with evaluating and interviewing potential OC’s now that they no exactly which quarterback they will draft.”

They don’y know yet, but Jason Licht said today that he’s been to 2 games each to see Winston and Mariota. Winston won both. Mariota lost both.

He wants love to go see them on the next trip.

  33. Walter White Says:

Remember the SNL “cowbell” sketch? “Don’t blow this for us Gene(Lovie)!!!”

  34. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Luther, we’ll have the first pick of the second round I think, so we may not need to trade up.

  35. WyomingBucsFan Says:

If Lovie is good coach and I think he is then the pic is Winston!

  36. Tom Edrington Says:

What offensive “guru” would want to come here, Lovie is an OC killer!

  37. Wes Says:

    BuccaneerBonzai Says

I hope licht makes the decision not Lovie. Please!

  38. MadMax Says:

    @Luther

The success rate of Heisman winning QB’s drafted high is not very successful.

  39. BucfaninMi Says:

If this site is going to be about the joes all over Winstons jock for the next 6 months, I’m outta here!

  40. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

    Da-da-da, da-da-da—WIN–STON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  41. Please Says:

    Man this offense stinks

  42. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

All the mariota lovers can kiss my @ss! It’s all about: Da-da-da, da-da-da—WIN–STON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. NJBucsFan Says:

Fire lovie. This is now an attractive job for a real coach.

  44. Drew Says:

Happy we have the 1st pick in the draft. Many thanks to Drew Brees and the Saints.

  45. Sketch813 Says:

Please stop with the Fire Lovie nonsense. He isn’t going anywhere. Maybe if he stinks it up early next year. I just don’t see it. The defense actually did improve over the year. The offensive line and the Tedford situation buried the Bucs this year. This season was like a bad Divorce. Time to move on.

  46. biff barker Says:

Time to dump Lovie for a coach that knows the offense is the guys with the ball.

  47. deminion Says:

    Winston!!!

  48. Greg Says:

Defense is getting better. I was afraid of winning this game. I don’t know why Joe talks as if the Bucs have any interest in Winsten. He is a moron off the field and would go against everything Lovie ever stood for as a human being. The guy is a habitual dirt bag. Mariota is a possibility as well as the DE from Wisconsin. Glad we got the pic. I think a lot of issues on offense and o-line will cure itself by getting a new coordinator.

Winsten isn’t happening!!! Ever!!! Get over it!!!

  49. biff barker Says:

    Mariotta.

  50. BucsFanInChina Says:

Moving to Denver in a couple weeks, may not have the faith to stick with the Bucs to see this pick through.

  51. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

I can hear Clinton McDonald saying: Da-da-da, da-da-da—WIN–STON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like he did in Seattle, only it was Wilson there:)

  52. IK Says:

McCown did not disappoint this week!
    Congrats!

  53. Simpleasthat Says:

Finally they did something right by barely losing.

  54. ryan Says:

Joe loved Manziel and we see how much Cleveland is regretting that decision. Joe loves Winston now.

Mariotta has to be the guy.

  55. Simpleasthat Says:

    Thanks McClown!!

  56. Simpleasthat Says:

    @ Greg
All Lovie stands for is mediocrity and BS.

  57. finishers Says:

    Fire MCcown !!!

  58. Bucnut2 Says:

Like the pick. Let’s trade down with Kelly and build this terrible roster. We can grab a qb in a much stronger class next. We a great surrounding class Glennon can be a joe flaco like qb.

  59. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

Congratulations Lovie Smith you will now get your franchise quarterback. I am happy for you considering the way you were done in Chicago!
Laughs for all those who want negative things to happen to coach Smith. Peyton has his brees, smith has his ryan, rivera has his newton, the guy from greenbay has his rodgers, bellicheat has his brady, dungy had his manning, and Lovie will have his qb: J. Winston!!!!

  60. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

All you liars claming to go and not renew season tickets if Lovie drafts WINSTON then just go there are others who will fill your seats with better attitudes.

  61. Rob Says:

Given how sure Joe was of Johnny Football, I’m really really hoping Licht and Smith are smart enough to avoid Winston like the plague.

  62. Rob Says:

“Like the pick. Let’s trade down with Kelly and build this terrible roster. ”

Chip Kelly doesn’t have the bargaining power to move up far enough to get Mariota.

Also, even though the 1st overall pick is no sure thing, it would be a colossal mistake to not draft a QB.

  63. nate Says:

The pick should come down to the jan 1st game whoever out plays the other person should be picked 1st overall!

    BYE!

  65. Rob Says:

The LAST thing the Bucs should do is base the decision on one game.

  66. BucTrooper Says:

Watch any highlight of Oregon this season. Marcus is throwing to wide-open receivers with no one around them. That is extremely suspicious. Marcus is a system quarterback. Plain and simple.

  67. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

If the Glazers remain in charge and Lovie and Licht stay it will not matter who the Bucs draft. That player’s career is doomed, and so are we. This franchise is a disaster because of ownership, just like the Redskins. If they don’t bring someone in to run the organization like a Bill Polian the losses and wasted first round QB selections will only grow in numbers. In this instance Joey’s buddy, The Commish, is correct.

  68. nate Says:

Mariota/winston first overall.. who ever out plays in the bowl should be number 1.

  69. Gaboybucfan Says:

With the first pick in the 2015 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select…wait a minute…it appears that the Bucs rep carrying the pick to the podium has tripped over his own two feet…he has fallen and can’t get up…the clock is ticking down…oh no!!! Tampa Bay fails to get its pick in on time…Tennesee is on the clock.

  70. Rob Says:

“Mariota/winston first overall.. who ever out plays in the bowl should be number 1.”

That is one of the most inane things I’ve ever heard. Luckily, Licht’s draft board is already pretty much set, and he’ll weigh their entire collegiate careers rather than one night’s work.

  71. ihateloviesmith Says:

fire lovie now fire lovie now fire lovie now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now now not tomorrow damnitt now now now now now now pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze fire lovie now now now now now now now now now. thank you have a wonderful and prosperus new year everyone, except for you lovie, fire lovie now now now now now now now now now……………………………………………………………………..

  72. J Moné Says:

I never ever wana root for my team to lose again … Lovie Licht you guys got this cheers

  73. Fort Myers Dave Says:

If the Bucs trade down (especially as far down as the Eagles are) they need to get 2 firsts, 2 2nds and 2 3rds minimum…. Ideally they should get more than what the Skins got for Ricky Williams or what they gave up to the Rams to get RG3. Look at what the Browns got for the trade with Buffalo for the #4 overall? I just do not think the Bucs can trade that far down (out of the top 10 with a team like Philly) and get fair value. The Jets and skins are drafting in the 5th and 6th spots; that is about as far down the Bucs should even consider trading down and again; they’d need multiple 1st rounders and other picks to even consider that as the #1 overall is gonna be very coveted if any of the QBs coming out look to be a franchise cornerstone like Andy Luck in 2012. In the past 2 years he has been the one home run qb pick (jury out on Tannehill #8 overall by the Fins in the Luck draft and the 2013 and 2014 drafts really have not shown any outstanding candidates yet); hopefully the Bucs can land that special guy and not get another Vinny T who the Bucs got the last time they were 2-14 and had the first overall….

  74. mike30#1bucfan Says:

So all the Mariotta lovers want us to draft him and hope he can learn to play in a pro style offense, and pass up a proven very successful pro style qb in Winston! C’mon Mannnn!!!!

  75. deminion Says:

    Draft famous

  76. Trubucfan22 Says:

Can’t say I’m super excited for either QB Prospect. But I’d probably lean Marriott over winston. Winston is freeman 2.0. Same mental capacity and immaturity, with a load of talent.

Trade back and get an OT, and QB in the second or later in the first.

I don’t see any way of screwing up this pick tho.

  77. Pat Says:

I will not be surprised if we go all DEFENSE pix this time around. But let’s see how these 2 qbs go head to head.

  78. PRBucFan Says:

The only thing is just like last year, you’ll be left disappointed that you didn’t get your guy. 🙁

  79. John Says:

With all the holes on this team neither of these QB’s is going to get us anywhere near the playoffs. Unless one of these two QB’s can be a franchise guy for years to come I say trade back. We need as many good lineman as we can get.
