Sean Payton Vows To Play Drew Brees

December 24th, 2014
Saints coach Sean Payton said all starters will play the full four quarters Sunday.

Saints coach Sean Payton said all  his starters will play the full four quarters Sunday.

Many Bucs fans — Joe included — are scared shirtless that in their greatest time of need, loss-needing Tampa Bay will face the second string of the Saints to end this grotesque season Sunday.

How could the Bucs secure the No. 1 pick in the draft if the Saints played scrubs? That gives fans a cold shiver up their spines.

Don’t worry, Saints coach Sean Payton told the Tampa Bay pen and mic club the Saints are playing for a win. And Payton didn’t hesitate today when asked if his future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees would play the entire game.

The answer is yes, along with other starters, Payton said. No kicking the tires on young players Sunday for him.

“Well look, No. 1, these guys understand it is a business of professional football,” Payton said of winning Sunday and not laying down for the Bucs. “Our plan… is very much the same. We are playing to win this game. We are not taking a look at younger players or change in the routine. I think it is important to end the season on a good note.

“You are constantly putting your tape together, or your resume if you will, on film. Players or coaches. All of us are. The minute we change from that — it is different if you secure a bye or something like that — it has been a point of emphasis to get ready to play our last football game. And I am sure Lovie and Tampa are doing the same thing.

“All of our guys are playing. Our approach is much like we needed to win this game. All of our guys will be full-go.”

Joe is relieved. The Bucs must lose Sunday. They must lose to improve the team. They must lose to save the franchise.

They must lose to secure Jameis.

Thanks Joe for the update and Merry Christmas to all, Thanks to Sean Payton too if he is telling the truth.. Great news..

  2. Dean Says:

This is the best Xmas present this year. Even Lovie can’t Q-snoodle this last game up and come away with a disastrous win. Go Saints, so our Bucs can begin rebuilding immediately.

And with the 5th over all pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, The Tampa Bay Buccaneers select, Brandon Scherff, OG out of the University of Iowa

  4. Dean Says:

Just a thought….people are so enamored with Mariota’s attitude and goody-goody approach to life and football. Someone you can be proud of and depend on. For the better part of 2 years, we have had all the goody-goody we can stand with Josh and Mike.
I want someone with a will to WIN! Someone who, rookie or vet, isn’t afraid to get in a lineman’s face (or a receiver) and show some balls and some leadership.

That he may have to be watched carefully in off hours, isn’t that big a deal. Bring in Winston and let that kid lead us on the field. It’s a real opportunity to change the face of this franchise.

And just in case you don’t think that leadership is important…Look at the other QB’s in our division. Drew is a real leader, the other two realized that’s what they needed to develop and have worked hard to increase their leadership roles.

  5. David Says:

Yeah, but how hard are the Saints going to try to win? They have nothing to play for. If they win, they can fall in the draft order as far back as #14. If they lose, they can move up all the way to #7.

The Saints defense is also giving up nearly 30 points a game over the past 8 weeks. They (including Drew Brees) have played some very bad games lately. And they are usually terrible on the road.

This could be a battle of who can tank it more.

  6. Bucnut2 Says:

Joes merry Christmas and thanks for a great outlet for us downtrodden bucs fans!

  7. Joseph Mamma Says:

Paint Sean Peyton green and you’ve got the Grinch who stole christmas.

  8. cmurda Says:

We owe you one Sean Payton. I won’t forget you being the bigger man. Now, if all goes according to plan and your Saints win, please give me your address to send your belated X Mas present to.

Like two tankers adrift in a mined harbor.

They must lose to secure Jameis.

It is laughable that Joe would hang his hat on one QB again this draft season after showing he doesn’t know much more about QB’s than Lovie with his John Manziel love affair.

Joe also once declared just a couple of months before Josh Freeman was jettisoned that he wouldnt mind if the Bucs signed him to a new contract that was “team friendly” – whatever that is.

Consider the source when Joe talks QBs.

  11. mikeh Says:

REALLY JOE! what are u worried about. u said lovie was tanking on purpose! not he just sucks!

Either player would help our team out in many different ways. I look at this as a win win for us. My question is do we take Gurley in the 2nd round to give us a dominate QB and RB for the next 6 years atleast, barring injury of course. I would not be against it.

I’m a fan of trading down to say the jets at #4 and still get either Williams from USC or Amari Cooper. Either one of those guys would be a huge help especially Williams. But could you imagine Evans and Cooper as our WR’s?!?!?! We would also pick up another 1st round pick and hopefully a 2nd rounder this year. Getting a QB (not Jay Cutler) in free agency or by trade is a real possibility allowing a trade scenario to open up and set up our draft next year as well.

    @Santa (aka Joe)
I need an article that gives me pretty solid hope for a playoff run next year. I don’t even care if half the article is bogus. It’s time for a Christmas present. We have endured too much this year…

  14. cmurda Says:

Maybe next Christmas Dan. I find myself saying that virtually every year. Do yourself a favor and pop in the Superbowl 37 DVD. It will make you feel good for a little while.

🙁 Joe can’t write bogus articles. Bucs seem a long way from a winning team.

    Jaaaaameis!

    Merry Christmas Bucco’s!

  17. port richey george Says:

if the saints win the bucs win.

  18. gatrbuc17 Says:

BUCS will win vs. the Saints.
    Guarantold ya Right here first.

  19. IdahoBucsfan Says:

If he IS really interested in trading for Glennon,.. Payton would want to win to assure that the BUCS would have the first pic, and choice of QBs so as to avoid the prospect of them missing their first choice of QB, and deciding not to take winston but keep Glennon.

  20. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Lets just hope the Colts rest their guys against the Titans to be on the safe side in case the Bucs actually do somethng like play mistake free ball or Brees gets some sort of “phantom” injury. Payton said he’d play Brees but you never know with the misdirection angle of NFL coaches……

  21. fritz50 Says:

Just wondering why anyone would think the Saints wouldn’t Play t win? While it is true that if all three other NFC South teams win, they stay in 3rd place. But consider this how is Payton gonna look if he sits his staryers & loses, and the other 2 tems also lose? He had a chance to win the division & tossed it away…sounds like a good way to get fired. I realize it’s an unlikely scenario, but really, with the season the saints have had, does he dare take a chance on losing to the ‘Yucs’, even if they don’t win the devision?
