Bucs TE Brandon Myers re-ups with the Bucs.

Yesterday, wide receiver Louis Murphy bragged how he had the best Christmas ever after signing a three-year pact to remain with Tampa Bay.

Murphy admitted he and his agent were prepared to shop around until the contract offer came from Bucs general manager Jason Licht.

Well, Licht, still in the holiday spirit, dropped a package on tight end Brandon Myers, per the Facebook feed of Woody Cummings of the Tampa Tribune. Myers took a salary decrease for 2015 to remain with the team.

Myers, who has caught 18 passes for 169 yards this year, came to the Bucs last March after signing a two-year, $4.25 million deal that included a $2.25 million base salary for 2015.

Myers agreed to reduce that salary in exchange for another year on the contract, Bucs officials said, a move that solidifies the top of the depth chart at his position.

No, this is not like signing Jimmy Graham. But Myers is good depth, a good blocker and a serviceable tight end. Right now, the Bucs need a whole lot of depth and Myers provides that.

Oh, and the Bucs need a new offensive line as well. Joe hears hints there may be other Bucs re-upping their contracts in the near future.

Uh oh think they have money to go after jpp in fa now ?

Nothing wrong with Myers. It’s O-scheme, O-line and QB that’s the problem.

All he needs is an OL that can allow an AVERAGE veteran QB time to throw the ball…McCown is below average

Good sign. We need to keep quality depth

Wonder how much of a pay cut he took?

When it comes to depth, I like it well enough. One less roster spot to worry over this off season.

Great depth as a solid pass catching tight end. Wish we’d use him more he reminds me of Tim Wright.

  7. Matt Says:

He’s solid, glad he took less to stay around another year. He’d catch 40-50 balls a year in a real offense. Whoever our next QB will be will have some weapons man.

I am hoping this refers to VJax sticking around a couple more years at a reduced price. It would be huge for this team.

Also something to ponder…….. You have Murphy signing an extension, Myers signing an extension, could an OC already be lined up and giving his list to Licht on who he wants and who he doesn’t?

myers is a good blocker. I don’t expect lovie to rebuild the 0-line. he has publicly praised several o-linemen. the 0-line will need to use tight ends to assist with the blocking. not that that will help very much. LOL 🙂

    That’s a very good question!
