No Excuses For Glennon

November 2nd, 2014
"Ball security, my son. Even I might sit you down after a showing like that."

“Ball security, my son. Even I might sit you down after a showing like that.”

Today, Mike Glennon had all the things a good quarterback needs to be successful. Big active receivers, a running game, and time to throw.

But Glennon didn’t get it done. In fact, he cost the Bucs dearly with two heinous and needless interceptions.

The first one to a wide open Mike Evans had to be at least 10 yards underthrown in what should have been a touchdown. The second, a red-zone interception, was ugly. If it was tipped (Joe doesn’t believe it was), it doesn’t matter. A 6-7 quarterback shouldn’t be getting tipped at the line of scrimmage.

“Just bad plays right there,” Glennon said in his postgame news conference.

Halfway through this season, Glennon has done nothing to show he’s the quarterback of the future.

He’s had two good starts and three bad ones. That’s backup material.

Joe’s still firmly in favor Glennon starting ahead of Josh McCown. Despite what Lovie Smith said/says, this season had been about next season since the Bucs didn’t show up in Atlanta and fell to 0-3.

Glennon did some good things today, of course. As expected. But it’s just not enough to win a starting job.

Joe’s “Jameis Watch” continues.

Gonna run out of athletic tape from everybody jumping off the Giraffe bandwagon…

  2. RastaMon Says:

    Flameis….

  3. Matthew Says:

Cue MGM cult member citing some nonsense “Glennon got us a lead at one point in the game” as if every time a team takes a lead it wins. Glennon is a career back up masquerading as a starting QB. Suck4TheDuck is in full effect as is the LoseLovieCampaign how can you not let Rainey try it one of 3 plays to gain a single yard?! I know lets let our career back up whose throwing 50% of his passes into the ground or to the other team try and get it through the air instead!

  4. StPeteBucsFan Says:

Meanwhile Carson Palmer has Arizona on top of one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. Think we would have more W’s if we had somehow gotten Palmer?

  5. bucrightoff Says:

Evans could have had 4 TDs today and maybe 250 yards. Glennon made a few nice throws but the misses were costly. Bucs defense is simply not good enough to leave points out there.

  6. OMG I MISS SCHIANO Says:

I’ve definitely been pulling for Glennon to show that he can lead us to success, but he is failing in that endeavor and now I’m definitely pulling for the best available QB when we draft. Marriota, Winston, or Hundley would be a huge upgrade for us. #FireLovie

  7. Trubucfan22 Says:

Start mccown, he has always been the better QB.

  8. bosscantworkmytoehurts Says:

Thats ok according to lovie the season just started so we are only 0-1

  9. Don Phillips Says:

Glen non had a great opportunity today and wilted. Sorry Glennon Mob Joe is right about Glennon. He doesn’t have that “It” factor he is mediocre at best, it’s time to move on. We a QB in 2015

  10. Warrenfb12 Says:

Jamies. And that’s the bottom line. Although lovie won’t have the nuggs to draft him

  11. RastaMon Says:

Bitch slap…Glennon is the best QB on the team this year….focus on the real issues

  12. Buccfan37 Says:

I am not hanging this loss around Glennon’s neck. He did’nt have his best game. This loss is on the nonexistant pass defenders who gave up crucial crippling catches that led to the Browns first downs, thus the win.

  13. OMG I MISS SCHIANO Says:

P.S. Evans is a freakin monster and Vdrops basically sucks. How is even possible to drop so many balls with those sticky a$$ gloves on. Have u guys felt those things? SMDH.

  14. 1trubuc Says:

Seriously, who are the top tier QB’s coming out that we know of or think will declare? I know Famous, but who else?

  15. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

With the 1st overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select Marcus Mariotta from Oregon State University..

  16. John Sapp Says:

    Is it Mike Kafka Time?

  17. Rob in Orlando Says:

Predictably, the Bucs found more ways to lose today. Surprise surprise. Quest for the overall number one pick is on boys and I believe the Bucs will come through and deliver. I have no confidence in this nightmare of a team to do anything but find a way to lose. Jump offsides (Ghoulston) on the goal line! Are you kidding me. Give up 20 plus yards on a 3rd and 16 from their (Cleveland) endzone for a first down. Really. We suck in every way. Terrible in every facet of the game. Looking to the draft next year really really blows this early in the year but I’m a fan and I have to look forward to something. Not impressed with the emotionless Lovie. Get pissed off bro.

  18. Mike10 Says:

I’m going to play devil’s advocate here Joe and disagree that Glennon should be starting.

Assuming this season continues to be a franchise vacation, and we’re picking at the top of the draft come April (which we have every reason to believe seeing as we can’t even beat the Browns or Vikings), we’re going to be picking in all likelihood a QB. I also think you’re going to see Glennon’s gameplay regress.

So fast forward to next year:
-we have 3 QBs, one of which has no future on this team that we have to pay $5 mil to and the other who is a perfect patch-up backup.

Point is the season is shot, so put together a better resume than a horrible 2.5 games for McClown so at least we can ship him off for a second day draft pick…

  19. Trubucfan22 Says:

What happened to schiano being the ultimate talent evaluator?

    Barron- bust
    Martin- bust
    Glennon- bust
    Wright- bust
    Goldson- bust
    Revis- wasted picks

Let go of: talib, Blount, Bennett

All we got from schianos era was lavonte David. Appreciate the 1 guy. But your talent evaluations caused more harm than help.

    Chance to win the game….
    2nd down 1 yard to go for a 1st
    3rd down 1 yard to go for a 1st
4th down and 1 yard to go for a 1st

  22. tmaxcon Says:

George Bush is responsible for Glennon picks.

  23. WalkdaPlank Says:

This was Glennon’s do or die game. He didn’t get it done.

If Lovie doesn’t draft a QB with his first pick I will throw up my FIRE LOVIE signs every time I hear that clown’s name.

I am damn near doing it right now. The sh!t this idiot spews from his mouth about how terrible he and his team are make me want to vomit and take a gold club to my Bucs memorabilia. I don’t give a damn if this idiot won 5 Super Bowls he has been a god awful coach. Not a single sign of improvement anywhere on this team. Can’t even beat the turds of the NFL, the toilet-bowl Cleveland Browns.

  24. 1trubuc Says:

All the 3rd and longs we just handed them new set of downs on, Really sucked. I had hope for today but Glennon is not our answer Now or the future!

  25. BlakeJohnson Says:

As much as I like Mike Glennon, the fact remains that he just isn’t good enough to be “the” guy. He’ll never be able to put a team on his back and will them to victory. He’s far too inconsistent. Give me Heinous Jameis or Marcus Mariota. Mariota looks like he could potentially be better than Kaepernick in the future, and Jameis might just be the next Warren Moon. I’d love to have either one, personally I love the idea of a smart mobile Qb that can pick up 1st downs with his legs, plus Mike Evans played his college career with a running Qb with great success, but I think both of them will develop into dominant players. Regardless, Glennon just ain’t getting it done.

  26. RCH Says:

How about all the under thrown balls today? In my opinion that helped cist us the game today.

  27. bucrightoff Says:

Bad teams find a way to lose. The Browns are not as bad anymore and the Bucs are still very bad.

1-15 is ahead. When is the draft…yawn. Can’t even get too excited about that unfortunately with our current organization.

  30. Frank Pillow Says:

The Giraffe was atrocious today. He stared down receivers. Didn’t scramble or climb the pocket well. Had no feel for pressure. Severely threw behind, short and long of targets all day long. He is what we all knew he was when he was drafted…a capable but unspectacular player. Yeah, he made a few throws- that’s what NFL QBs should do. But he is not able to put the team on his shoulders and/will them to win (there’s not a single player on this team in that mold, btw). All that being said, it’s hard to put the bad PI call on Evans (inside of 5 yds) or Arroyo’s refusal to run to pick up that last yard. I thought last year’s coaching staff was one of the worst ever assembled…until this current crew came into town. What a mess Lovie has created.

  31. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

I watched a couple of his games of this year n I have been reviewing his youtube stuff. Not the highlights obviously that would be redundant.

  32. deminion Says:

Lol Oregon state lol Famous is the best QB in the draft can’t wait til we get him on this team… Man is it me or was Mike Evans a man amongst boys today?

  33. jason77 Says:

Joe,You’re such a flip flopper, you’re just like Rick Scott!! Vote Yes on amendment 2 everybody…

I’m glad the mob is realizing Glennon sucks.

  35. flumunda Says:

Option 1 = Jameis, option 2 = Marital, Option 3 = best available LT or pass rushing DE. No Hundley please.

  36. Aceofaerospace Says:

Our 7 losses came to teams with a combined record of 23-31-1. We suck worse than suck. We would have to win a couple more games to suck.

  37. Soggy Says:

I always said glennon deserved his shot and that put me in the MGM by default, I have seen enough now, we need a QB, I am glad glennon had a chance to prove himself good or bad and that does just about sum him up good sometimes and bad sometimes just do not know what we will get.. Should probaly let him finish the year though..

  38. deminion Says:

Hundley is crap he is another version of EJ Manuel lol

  39. Celly Says:

A 6-7 quarterback shouldn’t be getting tipped at the line of scrimmage.

    My sentiments exactly.

Those were my exact words when he had a pass tipped at the LOS earlier in the game (not the play you’re speaking of, because i don’t believe it was tipped either)….

  40. deminion Says:

Glennon had his shot for some reason the guy starts games sooo slow

  41. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

Yeah the browns have improved over the years. I’d give them a an 8-8 to a near miss playoff team rating. Offense is coming together n so is their defense. We aren’t consistent glennon has to hit those throws tho. U imagine what the media would be saying about evans had glennon made that throw? Burned haden

  42. BucfaninMi Says:

It’s the O-line and coaching and lack of consistency from the rest of the playmakers(?) on offense!

  43. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

Saying a 6’7 qb can’t have a ball tipped is an expectation not an actuality tho..

  44. Ana Says:

We are so bad and we have 2 back up QBs! Unwatchable and I’m a Bucs fan

  45. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

Glennon went 17/33. Of those 17 he threw 3 on the money. The rest of the passes were in the vicinity or awful passes. I said this before . Is a miracle he is not getting more interceptions on his long passes. He is hitting the defenders in the back most of the time on those deep balls.

The season has been over for a while. I prefer to see if McCown can regain his 2013 magic than to watch Glennon. Or we can sign Connor Shaw of the Cleveland practice squad and let him start in 2 weeks.

  46. bob in valrico Says:

if it wasnt for mike evans mike glennon would have done nothing at all. plenty of time, much better run support. If you have to get a first down at the end of the game mike glennon is the last person i want running the ball.

  47. ToesOnTheLine! Says:

Back to back ‘meh’ games out of MG8, but that doesn’t mean it’s McCown time. Bortles and Bridgewater both lost and weren’t lights out either. It’s easy as fans to get frustrated, but Glennon is still playing as good or better than the 2 QB’s selected ahead of him in 2013 as well as the “franchise QB’s” from the 2014 draft. Unfortunately the Bucs just aren’t playing well enough in any facet to come up with wins unless Glennon plays like Luck or Manning.

  48. Jef Says:

When it actuallt makes sense to run the ball we dont. Yet we run all the other damn times. Its as if this team is playing to lose. Hmmmm… I have no answer for this odd shit.

  49. Phillip Says:

    Where’s the MGM?? lol

Those blinders are starting to come off and you can see how easily the most basic stat lines can be misleading… I want Glennon to start the rest of the season just to see if he can still show us something… But I’d ALMOST rather McCown be announced the starter after a couple more weeks because it will prove that Lovie doesn’t believe in Glennon anymore if he is sent to the bench after weeks of McCown being healthy. Plus Glennon is ruining whatever trade value he has just like Kirk Cousins did if we were to trade him(if they were thinking of trading him)… Btw where are the kids calling for that trade for Cousins in the off-season?? LMAO

  50. Vern4499 Says:

    Toes on the Line,

    Check Bridgewater again! He won.

  51. ChanEpic Says:

Nothing’s changed. It’s been said before but it bears repeating. Glennon’s VALUE in the NFL is as a backup QB not a starter. He just needs to play his role and as such, I’d love to have him, as a back up. That’s what most of us “Glennon Realists” have been saying from the beginning. Glad the MGM HAS to acknowledge now though.

  52. bob in valrico Says:

believe cleveland finally figured out that slowing rainey down in second
half would put in the ball in glennons hands. he has steadily unraveled
    this year.

  53. johnnytheMOON Says:

This why the Tampa area sucks as far as fans …I wanted Glennon to do well because he is the QB of my team not to be a forecaster of talent …Draft a Qb next year i will be pulling for him just like i have every QB since Spurrier .

  54. Fort Myers Dave Says:

    Joe said:

Just a hunch you never saw him play.

Like how you slipped that “State” in their Joe. Actually I saw Mariota play Saturday Night on Fox Sports. Dude looked good tearing apart Stanford but the question that everyone is asking remains: does any of this great play against PAC 10 and Michigan State defenses translate to decent play in the NFL????? Bucs definitely need a new QB though; wonder if anyone wishes that the Bucs went in a different direction besides Evans in last April’s draft? Perhaps trading down a bit and getting a Bridgewater, Manziel or Derek Carr? BTW, watching Oakland Seattle right now; Carr already has 2 picks; looks like Oakland wants that perfect record!

  55. Joe Says:

Like how you slipped that “State” in their Joe.

Joe never did such a thing.

  56. Joe Says:

Dude looked good tearing apart Stanford but the question that everyone is asking remains: does any of this great play against PAC 10 and Michigan State defenses translate to decent play in the NFL?????

Biggest question isn’t who he has played. It is what he plays.

He plays in that gimmick spread-option offense that does not translate to the NFL. Can he run a pro-style offense? That is the question.

Winston has played against worse teams (PAC-12/Michigan State far better than ACC/scrub Big XII/struggling SEC team). No one questions he could run a pro style offense. The question with him is, can he grow up?

  57. John McKillop Says:

Glennon is the back up quarterback of the future. A team cannot win with a qb who is consistently at 50 percent completion percentage. He is not capable of putting a team on his shoulders and making enough big completions to win a game. As far as Jameis Winston, I don’t think he is the answer either, throws to many balls up for grabs when under pressure resulting in interceptions. This team made a big mistake not drafting Garoppolo and developing him.

  58. Phillip Says:

No the question is whether he raped that girl or not… FSU fan boys will swear up and down that he didn’t… But if there was so much proof that he didn’t why would they revisit the situation?? Btw the Jameis fanboys are becoming worse than the MGM by spamming every damn article… Kid has thrown what 9 picks already this season in 8 games I think? The ACC is terrible.. RECENT FSU Qb’s have been terrible as well (Ponder and Manuel).

Remember who would have thought Aaron Hernandez could be as guilty as he is?

  59. tweezydakidd Says:

Not blaming the refs, but is it me or the refs throw a freaking flag everytime the game is on the line! Every first down at a crucial
Part of the game! I witness it every week! They are deciding games and shud be fined just like players!!

  60. Skyline Crew Says:

Glennon did not impress today. Left points out there today. Defensive secondary was terrible again. Rush defense was pretty solid though. I don’t know why our secondary is so awful. All around we need a QB/OL/CB/DB/FS/SS/DL/RB. So many needs not enough picks.

  61. bucrightoff Says:

Mariota is drafting the good Christian Mariota over Winston every day of the week and 99 times on Sunday.

  62. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

Kaepernick is doing well n they are from the same conference. Who says arroyo will be calling the plays next year as offensive coordinator we need a new offense all I hear is grumbling about the predictable play calling on this site. Look at the eagles joe. We have cast of talented players at the skill positions te wr hb but our qb coach/offensive coordinator is too inexperienced to handle the job. U might talk ur sh’t about how glennon n where our offense is ranked but forget to mention that there is not a true coordinator on this staff. That takes away from glennon because now its 2 years in a row he is without a qb coach. ( arroyo is assuming coordinator position). Besides the read option is keeping defenses honest. Just see it now read option play action fade to mike evans from mariotta. I don’t hear jameis being compared to luck so..

  63. bucrightoff Says:

Lovie? Yeah I’m that drunk already lol

  64. Nick2 Says:

The Giraffe in my opinion cost us this game. Evans was wide open all day. The pic he threw on the post to Evans wide open for a TD ended up beinga 14 point swing as the Browns went down and scored. Evans should have had 200 plus yards if Jamus Winston or Mariota were playing QB for us. I am over Glennon please bring on a franchise qb Lovie with our #1 pick. If you dont people will be jumping off the Skyway Bridge.

  65. Newbucsfan!!! Says:

I want Lovie to succede as the Bucs coach more than anyone but if he picks a DE, MLB, stc. over Winston. Boy oh boy

  66. Skyline Crew Says:

What if he takes Mariota over Winston? Or what if they both aren’t there?

  67. HeinousJameis aka delson Says:

I get the feeling glennon is growing on lovie. Maybe no qb at all yhis year

  68. Bobby M. Says:

Considering he’s working with his 2nd offensive coordinator in 2 yrs and this one was the QB coach….he’s not doing bad. He does need to avoid the errors in the red zone. You guys should consider this, Lovie will likely be on a short leash next yr at his current 1-7 pace. He’s not putting his future in the hands of another rookie learning a system.

  69. Jarret Reddicliffe Says:

MARIOTA mob. I wanna see it happen.

  70. chipbuc Says:

I think Glennon reminds me of another Bucs QB. You know the guy that was just good enough to get you beat!!!! Steve DeBerg, alot of similarity between the two.

  71. Howard Cosell Says:

    McCown is a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10.
    Glennon is a 2.5 on a scale of 1 to 10.
    They both suck.

  72. foghead407 Says:

I never like glennon and was never on the bandwagon. As for joe who cant make up his mind wheather to be the general if the glennon mob to appease his readers or write the truth which glennon is a quaterback of a one win team who plays qb scared. Joe doesnt have his own opinion anymore. Just what u want to hear

  73. foghead407 Says:

By the way youre gonna jinx from getting a qb like u did last year

  74. OneLove Says:

    Mike Glennon sucks…

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith

  75. HawaiianBuc Says:

Anyone who wants Mike Glennon to be our QB next year is a Mike Glennon fan, not a Bucs fan. I’m sure he’s a great kid, I’m sure he works hard, and I’m sure he doesn’t have the best talent around him. But he’s just not a good QB, period. He misses throws no other starting QB in the NFL misses. He does make good throws. He does look impressive at times. But he has yet to put together a complete game. He’s has never displayed any form of consistency. Anybody can make a few great throws per game, but the good ones can do it consistently. Glennon can’t because he’s just not good enough.

  76. owlykat Says:

Haven’t heard from Glennon’s MOB predicting how wonderful the Cannon would be if he could just start lately. In a way his nickname is accurate. Since a cannon has no rifling it is a highly inaccurate weapon. Fits our inaccurate albatross to a “T”!!! How come I knew he was a bust even before Preseason and Lovie and Licht couldn’t see that coming? Just watching him run like a scared kid for the sidelines when he badly needed a first down just shows what a girlyman Glennon is. Afraid of contact. Now how can you expect the rest of the Offense to have any confidence in him or really consider him a leader? The worst part is if Lovie had seen the future he could have easily gotten a high draft pick to trade Glennon, and could have signed Tebo, who has always excelled in the NFL when handed the starting QB job. He is a leader with more intangibles to make all the rest of the Offense better around him. He was a record setting QB in High School who won the Heisman in College and won two National Championship rings, and took the Broncos to the Playoffs and beat the former Super Bowl Champions and set an NFL Record for long completed passes in the Playoffs doing it. Compare his production to your Cannon. We could have had a winning team this year and would not have to spend a first pick on a Franchise QB (like we have to do now) and would allow us to get a great pass rusher instead (unlike Johnson). L & L blew it big time!

  77. Skyline Crew Says:

Tebow sucks. Not in NFL anymore.

  78. C. Alaka Says:

I agree! At this point there will be a new starting QBS next yr! Don’t be surprised if we trade him to ALL those teams that were calling for him before the draft lol
