TV Producers Don’t Like Mike Glennon

October 17th, 2014

Glennonwide

In a quarterback-driven league whose television popularity is fueled by fantasy-football-loving lunatics, it’s the starting QBs whbo command the greatest interest.

But when it comes to Bucs games, TV producers don’t have much use for Mike Glennon.

The Wall Street Journal tracked the details and Glennon drew the least face time of any NFL QB. (See the graphic below.)

Where should the speculating begin? Joe has no energy to go there. But Joe can’t blame the networks. The Bucs themselves don’t even promote the sale of Glennon jerseys on their website. C’mon, guys, Glennon is the “quarterback of the future” in a quarterback league.

If Glennon ever becomes the face of this franchise, he’s going to have to earn it on the field 100 percent.

Lol they barely show any of our players on the sideline. We have no stars lavonte and McCoy are great players but casual football fans wouldn’t know who they are.

  2. tmaxcon Says:

Winners get shown on TV not losers and right now the Bucs and Glennon are LOSERS!!!!! Not even a debate. When was the last time a Team was embarrassed twice in one season like the Bucs have been! No need to put backup QB’s on TV.

  3. knucknbuc Says:

Our team has been a bunch of LOSERS!! Who wants to see that or care?

  4. Patrick in VA Says:

Kinda hope that Glennon moves on soon. For whatever reason, he just can’t get a break here and I feel like he has potential to be a player in the league. Not going to say he’ll be great because I don’t know but I know that he won’t get the support here to have a real chance.

  5. lightningbuc Says:

The most amazing thing to me about this, is that it is actually tracked. Shouldn’t the Wall Street Journal be digging up stats on the economy or stock market? I’d hate to be the stooge that has to research this “news”.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Lovie didn’t do well either…..surprised by Kaepernick’s low ranking…..& Bridgewater’s high one….

  7. billy buckaroo Says:

I guess he won’t be doing discount double check commercials for a little while longer.

  8. tmaxcon Says:

come on lightningbuc — Jeff Spicoli needed a job and this worked out for him. It takes a “special” person to track and compile meaningless tv stats.

  9. bucrightoff Says:

I’m really surprised how low Romo is on this list. No shocker that the most immature person in the NFL, Jim Harbaugh, tops the list.

  10. RastaMon Says:

As a QB your team needs to have the ball to have a chance of getting face time…combined with 3 and outs…combined with blow out games that not even the opposing teams fans watch long before changing channels…stats….

  11. Skyline Crew Says:

When you aren’t on the sideline making stupid faces like some of them then yes you are not going to be on TV.

As a Glennon-skeptic, he has a real chance. Lead this team, put some points on the board, put together two halves of good football. The opportunities are there, he has at least 10 more before we should be able to make any decisions about whether he stays or moves on. There were several times this season where I said to myself, “Wow, I’ve never seen that from Glennon before.” But then last week, too often I was saying to myself, “Same old Glennon.” He’s got time, he’s young, but he HAS TO SHOW SOMETHING that would suggest he is a cornerstone that you can build a franchise around. Right now, he’s among the best performers on the team…but that is saying almost nothing, this team has been horrible.

  13. Zam Says:

That’s a very odd stat. I really have no idea what it means.

  14. DB55 Says:

What do you call an alligator who wears a vest? An investigator (Drum roll)

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

This had to be the N.O. game. He got plenty of looks during the Pitt game, and look at Flacco, anyone who throws 5 td passes in the first 16:03 of a game would have had more looks than 11 like the chart says. Once we start winning the cameras will be everywhere.

  16. Patrick in VA Says:

@Brandon – What I mean by a real chance is having an actual OC and getting a full training camp to develop rapport with his receivers, like other QBs in the league get.

  17. Kevin422 Says:

Winning changes everything!!! Win and the team will get the love.

  18. sho-nuff Says:

I would expect nothing less from the ‘see food eat’ society that has the emotional intelligence of a 12 y/o boy….grow up. Just because he isn’t pretty like Brady he immediately has “no chance”…the irony is that this kid hasn’t had a legitimate shot yet…he had to replace the “junkie” after 4 games last year as a rookie getting no snaps in training camp…and again this year replacing Lovie’s boy after 4 games never getting the opportunity to compete.
All he has done is study, not complain and keep his head while the fakes surrounding him are dropping like flies…
Check yourselves…this kid’s character alone drowns all of you fantasy wannabes…

  19. Hawk Says:

So Glennon’s goal now, is to get more ‘face time’ so that he can be like the ‘elite’ QBs? Wow, Joe. Oh, yea, I forgot, it’s going to be a slow week with no game. My bad. smh

  20. gt40bear Says:

I think this is more a reflection of the national media’s disdain and disinterest in the Bucs as a whole rather than specifically a knock on MGM8. Notice the facetime ranking for Lovie. Granted 3rd round “giraffes” that don’t play like Peyton Manning aren’t usually media darlings but my previous statement stands.

  21. Patrick in VA Says:

Would you guys rather we had the constant deer in the headlights face shots that we used to be treated to with Freeman every game. Kid either looked confused or dejected every time the camera found him.

  22. DB55 Says:

whats the difference between the TB Buccaneers and a dollar bill? You can still get 4 quarters out of a dollar bill.

  23. LutzBuczFan Says:

The stadium still has McCown’s Town banners up. Dashon Goldson was the featured player in the game program. Pretty lame.

  24. Luther Says:

If Geno Smith is number 9, you know the list is worthless. Then again, he is in NY and Glennon is in Tampa.

  25. MTM Says:

The media wants nothing to do with the Bucs. I can’t blame them either! Its not a beauty contest but winning much like money improves everyone’s looks!

  26. Buccfan37 Says:

sho-nuff… I agree with your take on the topic. Only producer thought worthiness get’s face time. They have to be associated with winners who jack their ratings. The MGM’s fans know better.

  27. tmaxcon Says:

I know Joe hates links so I’ll apologize in advance for breaking the sacred protocol.

    http://kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com/2014/10/how-to-draw-mike-glennon.html

This is why Glennon is a radio guy not a tv guy. LOL…

  28. BoJiim Says:

Why would anyone keep track of that? snh.

  29. Skyline Crew Says:

Then why isn’t Kap higher? He wins.

  30. JonBuc Says:

Perhaps it’s a lot like watching Shawn Bradley play basketball or Bartolo Colon pitch a baseball….effective but awkward on the eyes.

  31. JonBuc Says:

Glennon looks a lot like Jeff Garcia…with 6-7 inches more of neck length.

  32. buctebow Says:

Maybe Melman would get more facetime if he hung out with King Julien more.

  33. Bannor Says:

“But when it comes to Bucs games, TV producers don’t have much use for Mike Glennon.”

As a bucs fan I don’t have much use for him either.

  34. Schlomie Gentile-Mohel Says:

It’s because the “game” is no longer the focus. The focus now is creating a nine hour long TV show on Sundays from one until 10 and they use social and political agendas for viewership it’s no longer about the sport.

  35. buccanAy Says:

Well said “sho-nuff”…media has been a major instigator towards the anti-Glennon atmosphere around here, this one a major contributor, in fact. The guy has done nothing to deserve the ridicule he gets from his home town fans and media….f’n disgraceful, and a pathetic showing by many so-called Buc “fans”.

  36. utahbucsfan Says:

Trade mike glennon and a conditional mid round pick for johnny manziel. Media would love it and Mike evans might enjoy it also

  37. 1976Buc Says:

When the team doesn’t promote him what do you expect. @joe, you must have been really bored lol.

  38. ToesOnTheLine Says:

So someone should tell the Lions and Bucs that Charlie Whitehust should be the face of their franchise than Stafford or Glennon?

  39. tmaxcon Says:

Until Glennon can string 4 qtr together and win multiple games without all the mob excuses he shouldn’t be the face of anything.
