The Day The Optimists Died

October 26th, 2014

The Bucs’ choke job today cost them a shot at second place in the division following tonight’s Saints-Packers game

Yes, the Bucs entered todays’ game just two games back of first place in the putrid NFC South, a spot they still occupy after losses by Carolina and Atlanta.

Your Buccaneers are in the hunt. But the reality is any 2014 optimism among the diehard Bucs faithful died today at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

Joe really feels for these folks.

Damn, the Bucs not only lost, but they choked away a lead to a rookie quarterback who wasn’t having a great day.

Today has turned into a day when realists will rule. The Bucs stink and the regime now has to start thinking long and hard about the moves that makes sense for 2015.

That doesn’t mean Lovie Smith needs to change his defense. But there needs to be fearless decision making when it comes to personnel. Nine games remaining is a lot of time to evaluate your team and the coaching staff. Just lose the still-in-the-hunt talk. It’s laughable at this point.

Still only two games out of first place. Wow is this division horrible or what?

  2. INDYbucsfan Says:

Getting rid of Jackson Martin and goldson seem like the right moves at this point.

  3. Patrick Says:

Someone needs to get Derrick Brooks, John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Ronde Barber and Simeon Rice into a locker room with the losers on this team so they can kick their ass for embarrassing this franchise.

  4. Kalind Says:

    Agreed indybuc

  5. vegasbuccaneer Says:

No oline help….press cover……pass rush a joke….bye week and we are healthy? Lies lies lies

  6. vegasbuccaneer Says:

    Liver working overtime this season

  7. buc4lyfe Says:

Joe what are you talking about? He was having a good game and I now you need to keep up the optimism but yes in a putrid division this team is the worse and every Sunday our fans seem to forget. The defense improved but really two weeks to prepare and your offense plays like that…… It’s time to focus on the draft

  8. Oahubuc Says:

Mine died week one. Because I knew I was looking at an irredeemably bad team by the end of the first half. A team that has flailed through the off-season and in games since 2007 or earlier. Top to bottom, this organization is pure trash and has been since Malcolm got sick.

  9. jeff Says:

It died when they named Lovie Snuffy Smith as the head coach. This played out retread has no business coaching a professional football team. I get sick when I think about how much the Bucs will blow for the next 5 years after his reign of incompetence. 3 years to fire (Glazers are too cheap and too proud to do it sooner) and 2 years to recover.

  10. vegasbuccaneer Says:

And wit the 3rd pick in this year’s draft. .tampabay picks bud light. .it’s been working this season

  11. bucrightoff Says:

The defense looked ok against a really terrible offense. Nothing to be proud about whatsoever.

  12. IdahoBucsfan Says:

Offensive line was truly “Offensive”! Good thing we got rid of TWO linemen that were Both better centers than what we have now! Good work evaluating talent lovie!

  13. OB Says:

    Joe

The play calling of going up the middle the first two downs has got to stop. Open up the passing game, the more you throw the more open and the more the receivers are used to try and get open.

We lost the game on a fumble, nothing else. We did not win because of play calling and extremely poor blocking by the OL. The defense is getting better, still too far off the receivers but getting closer.

  14. Patrick in VA Says:

Here’s that apathy you were talking about Joe. I just don’t care anymore. I’ve started watching Colts games with my in-laws. Not ready to tune out the Bucs yet but I don’t really have a reason for why not. May end up just not watching anymore. Who really cares at this point

  15. Nybucsfan Says:

The QB stinks the D gives up 13 points and the bum can only come up with 161passing yards in 4 quarters he is a bum time to move on. I the first half he had what 30 passing yards with a int. The QB needs to lead a team.

  16. Please Says:

Let’s just start with not waiting until the 4th quarter to go deep to our bigs. The D has plays of greatness and then plays that look like no one’s on the field — the optimist in me hopes this is the learning curve.

But the offense, good grief, go to your bigs all game! And poor muscle hamster’s days probably need to be done.

  17. StPeteBucsFan Says:

My son lives in Ohio and is a Browns fan. I told him I’d take the Browns give him the Bucs and 12 points if he wants to wager.

” Jackson Martin and goldson seem like the right moves at this point.”

You forgot Mark Barron. I saw him whiff on some tackles today. If he can’t cover and he can’t tackle what can he do?

  18. Lee Says:

Trade Martin,Jackson,Goldson,Barron,Johnson,Collins for draft picks. Aw sh*t, trade the whole team except for McCoy and David. Aw f**K, I forgot this team doesn’t know how to draft.

  19. PhillyBuc Says:

Worst team in the NFL. Two weeks to prepare and you drop a turd like that…How many years of Lovie will we have to endure before the Glazers will have the hair to fire him

  20. StPeteBucsFan Says:

“I’ve started watching Colts games with my in-laws.”

I know how you feel Patrick. My inlaws love the Packers. I’ve become a big Aaron Rodgers fan.

  21. warrenfb12 Says:

coaching staff is a huge issue as well.

  22. Architek Says:

I hope the Bucs see this – YOU ARE PURGATORY TO THE NFL AND YOU WILL REMAIN IN THIS STATE AS LONG AS THE GLAZERS OWN THIS TEAM!

  23. fordman61 Says:

Rx for Bucs game Drink heavily the night before so that you sleep though entire game on Sunday.

  24. lurker Says:

must be nice watching real starting qb’s in indy and greenbay.

  25. John Sapp Says:

There was / is a very good reason Lovie was fired by the Bears. There is / was also a very good reason Leslie was fired by the Vikings. Through seven games this year it should be quite obvious. I have said it once and I will say it again, Schiano should have been given one more year.

  26. lurker Says:

pinocchio does nothing till late. he looks like a real boy/qb on a play or 2 and people buy it.

    like a mirage

  27. Taking back Sunday Says:

Glad I stopped watching these clowns play.

  28. Tom R Says:

Back to paper bags on the head kind of times

  29. BucFanInArkansas Says:

I was an optimist. I believed. I was all in on the glass being half-full.

Cannot do it any more. We’re bad. What we saw today was two bad football teams doing bad thing on a football field. Somebody had to win, I suppose. But this Bucs team, as it is currently structured, is going nowhere. We are officially every opponent’s “Second Bye Week”.

The optimist in me believes that over the long haul L&L will figure out how to bring along the right personnel and the coaching staff will instill the proper training and prepare the team well and our players will eventually execute the game plans and play calls and we will start winning games.

But right now, I have serious doubts as to whether any of that will happen at any time in the next 12 – 15 months.

I feel pretty bad for GMC. He just signed on for 7 more years of this BS.

  30. Brent Says:

Ha. Sorry old Schiano was better than this. He won 7 his 1st year and 4 last year. If it wasn’t for Glennon we’d be 0-7. Not even a tough schedule and 1-6. Lose to sorry team at home after bye wow Lovie!! Find an oc stupid.

  31. The Ether Says:

The f—k is wrong with this team???

    Let the trades begin!

The 2014 season is DEAD. Trade VJax, Glennon, Martin, Goldson, the entire O’Line, and whoever the f***k else… Its time to stockpile some draft picks so we can move up and get a true franchise QB, then go all out on O-line & D-line in 2015.

Not even 8 games, and its already about next year… SMmfH.

  32. Tye Says:

This team has been consistently bad all season…. No improvement at any phase…. Just like their is no change from one week to the next, I don’t expect any change from one season to the next as long as Lovie Smith and staff are still running things… I was concerned Lovie was overrated when he was hired and now those concerns have been justified……

Maybe 2018 will be the Bucs year after Smith has finally been replaced….Got to fined something to hope for….

  33. buccanAy Says:

Glennon had the team AHEAD with 2 minutes left…is it not to much to ask this team to make ONE FUKIN stop to win the game? whine and bitch all you want about Glennon, but he, and offense put the team ahead with 2 minutes left in the game.

  34. Buckin' Round Says:

I don’t think I can watch this team for one more game this year, and I’m a guy who has had season tickets for years in the past. I’m sorry, but this team is just completely uninspiring. There is nothing to root for at this point.

  35. Brent Says:

Not MGM guy but I like him. He had no time to throw and no offensive coordinator and still played ok. News flash: if the o-line plays like this last 2 weeks were goin 3-13. Gotta take 3 o-lineman in first 5 picks next year. Actually have some good offensive talent: Dotson, Evans, Rainey, Jackson, asj. Doesn’t matter when you’re o-line gets dominated. I guarantee if they take 3 o-line guys and get oc this can be middle of pack nfl offense.

  36. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

13 points against our defense. I say they are looking better! We still stink as a team but lets see reality without blinders.

If I was to blame anyone today it would be our running game. But the again when you fumble the ball in OT for a return TD that makes it a tough decision…

  37. Oahubuc Says:

    Yo Dawg!

    I heard you like fail.

So we hired Lovie Smith who hired Leslie Frazier so you can have some fail with your fail!

  38. I'm Tom Brokaw and this is an American story Says:

O line is horrible, can’t runt block or pass block and Michael Johnson looks like Gaines Adams reincarnated. 100 million dollar man had an ok game. Can’t be just ok when you make that kind of money.

  39. The Ether Says:

“Glennon had the team AHEAD with 2 minutes left”

In other words, it took Glennon & Co. 58 minutes to score more than 10 points…

Face it Bucs Fans, we need a Franchise QB… a guy who can take a team on his back every now and then… without everything being perfectly setup for him: o-line giving him 3+ seconds, RBs getting 3+ yds/carry. D holding the other team to under 2 TDs in regulation…

I’m done settling for an ‘almost good enough’ QB… TB needs a BALLS OUT BALLER at QB. Let Glennon keep playing…. trade VJax & Martin… and then lets get Mariota.

  40. buccanAy Says:

Collins is every bit as bad on offense as Johnson is on defense….what a colossal failure….

  41. pittbucfan Says:

    Sad. Worst in NFL. Period

  42. Skyline Crew Says:

The best we can hope for is the Glazers sell and buy out the 3 HC contracts so we can start over. Need to clean house more now them when first took over. Awful owners, awful management, awful coaches, awful players, awful water boys, awful towel boys, and just awful franchise. See you next year. Signing out from VA.

  43. RastaMon Says:

Half time Carolina Panthers games 2014

  44. BoJim Says:

Hey!! Let’s look on the bright side…………..

  45. Howard Cosell Says:

It’s the sad story of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  46. FloridaGirl Says:

Fire sale at One Buc Palace next week………..trade em all.

  47. Buccfan37 Says:

I see London bigwigs are still pushing for an NFL team. I hope it aint the Bucs. If it is, I’ll have nothing to do with them whatsoever, zero interest.

  48. John Valenti Says:

When you consider the Bucs are making SOME plays to put themselves in position to close out games, it is a bit of optimism. One day Goldson will make that endzone INT. Or Banks will come up with the catch, not just the break up. Next time, injured or not, Evans will know to get off the field. One day, the team will have a QB that makes that pass over the defenders, NOT short of the receiver. The rookie tight end wont be a rookie anymore and he’ll protect the football like it was his paycheck. The running back will find the hole, instead of happy tap dancing in the backfield.

In the meantime, it’s time to evaluate for next year. It’s time to look a little closer to those offers passing across the desks.

  49. mike h Says:

mark my words people who ever they trade will shine on a well coached team meaning v jax martin hawk etc. just awful ! coaching game planning etc. whatever there paying lovie dovie is way to much !

  50. RastaMon Says:

That became clear after the Panthers game….
