Prime Time College Football

October 4th, 2014

auburnWow, what an afternoon that was, wasn’t it? First time so many top-10 teams went down since 1990.

Damn, Joe loves college football! So can the craziness continue? Auburn hosts LSU and Michigan State faces off against sleeper Nebraska with the best running back in college. Bang it here for your thoughts, and how the polls should play out and what realtor Will Muschamp may use.

The SEC is such a tough conference. One commentator said today that he can very easily see all the teams in the SEC having 2 losses at the end of the year.

So if that happens and continues to happen. SEC teams are going to be hard pressed to even get into that top 4 every season.

That’s not right at all. I think if that happens fans of SEC teams are going to despise these playoffs real quick. Their teams will pretty much have to run the table to get there every season and that’s tough in the SEC.

Say your a team that knows they are going to be pre-ranked in the top 4. Your not in the SEC. Why would you make your schedule harder on yourself? Just schedule yourself cheese teams outside of your conference and cake walk to the playoffs.

Take my Noles for instance. Why would they schedule harder teams if they are going to be pre-ranked #1?

  2. Buc1987 Says:

    All that and I’m singin’

    It’s SUCKS… to be…. a Florida Gator!

    Yah I know they won..barely.

    Go Noles!

  3. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I hear you loud and clear Joe! Muschamp’s job was perhaps saved by a true freshman bailing out the Gators in the 2nd half.

And so Gator fans do you now have a QB controversy?

If it’s not SEC competition bearing down on Muschamp, why it’s SEC competition in the form of Dan Mullen. Mississippi State? Are you kidding me? The Gators should have a program far far ahead of Ole Miss or Miss St.!!!

Wonder if Mullen has kept up his friendships in Gainesville?

  4. RastaMon Says:

Myami is back…well looking good ..really good….freshman QB and the whole squad playing with some of that old Hurricane pride !

  5. Fort Myers Dave Says:

How about a “Hire Dan Mullen” billboard on University Ave???? The Gators have not had a decent offense or qb since he left (Tebow played only one season after Mullen went to Starkville)…. Of course a lot of people were high on Charlie Strong but given a choice between Strong who just signed a huge deal at Texas and Mullen, one has to give the Gator job to Mullen. Yeah the Gators beat the Vols but lets face it, that makes them the 3rd best team in a weak SEC East and probably the 8th or 9th best team in the whole conference; thus the win over the “Little Orange” Vols was probably for a bid to the Independence Bowll in Shreveport to face another 7-5 or 6-6 program….

  6. Buccfan37 Says:

Yeah I see what goes on up in Tallahassee. Thrasher just trashed any credibility the school had left, which was’nt much. Money for nothing and graft for free.

  7. Buc1987 Says:

#1 in the nation baby. Enjoy it. Jealousy will get you nowhere.

  8. Buc1987 Says:

Hell if I’m FSU and I know were going to be ranked in the top 4 coming into next season…I’d schedule cheese teams all day long outside my conference. It’s a no brainer.

  9. Buc1987 Says:

Bama’s got 1 loss and I don’t think they will see the top 4 for the rest of the season. So they are already out as far as I’m concerned.

I think Bama could beat FSU too.

People are going to hate this playoff system. I don’t think top 4 is cutting it. Maybe top 6 would do it.

  10. WalkdaPlank Says:

Sorry Joe, gonna have to call BS on that!! Todd Gurley is the best running back in college. Abdullah is right there with him, but Gurley is better. He is more dynamic and goes against better competition.

  11. WalkdaPlank Says:

The only thing I have against FSU is their logo. I remember growing up thinking the guy had a piece of bacon stuck on his nose and didn’t look happy about it. Now he just looks like he’s constipated. But I love the uniforms.

  12. Fort Myers Dave Says:

Buc1987: someone is always going to complain with any playoff format; if it is expanded to 6 teams, the 7th ranked team will complain… If it is expanded to 8 teams (one extra game to those invited) then the 9th ranked team will whine…..

WalkDaPlank: you think a publication from Tampa (aka a Gator Nation hotbed) is gonna give any credit to someone from UGA????

  13. WalkdaPlank Says:

Hey man, I don’t mind giving credit to guys like Percy Harvin or Joe Haden even if they were part of those stinkin’ Gators lol.

  14. Joe Says:

    someone is always going to complain with any playoff format;

The simplest solution — which far more often than not worked — was to keep the BCS bowls (Rose, Orange, Sugar, Fiesta) and the winners of the four bowls advanced to a semifinals round.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

Fort Myers Dave….yep there is always going to be a problem with it. That’s why I was adamant when people were clamoring for it, that it would change nothing. If anything it’s just going to piss people off more.

  16. Buc1987 Says:

    I like Joe’s idea…a lot.

  17. WalkdaPlank Says:

I honestly thought the BCS was fine for the most part. It was another thing that made college football better than the NFL IMO.

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

How about Notre Dame being unbeaten? Ugh, I always pull for them to lose, don’t understand their following. Must be the all encompassing Catholic church. That Tallahassee step child team should make quick work of them.

  19. RastaMon Says:

Well Joe…I was ready to wise azz pop off…I too like the idea….still plenty of arguing to go around…but clear targets for teams to aim for

  20. Buc1987 Says:

I pull for the Notre Dame to lose too…every season. I never understand why they get ranked when they do. Are they ranked this year too I forgot?

  21. Fort Myers Dave Says:

I agree, Joe’s idea is good. The 4 major bowls would make a lot of people happy if the selection process allows traditional powers go to their respective New years Day bowls for round 1 (the SEC goes to New Orleans, Big 12 and ACC to Miami, PAC 10 and Big 10 to Pasadena, and the Fiesta available for the occasional upstart non BCS conference team like a Boise State). There could be some bickering over seeding but if one looks at the big picture then it is simply “win 3 and you win it all”…..

    How ’bout them Frogs!?!?!?!?!?!

  24. Buc1987 Says:

Duh I just saw that the Irish were ranked number 9 and I knew that already…they were playing Stanford number 14 and won. I knew this shyte already. Damn vodka!
