“Sugar The A-Gaps”

September 18th, 2014

A former Buccaneer weighs in on a key in Atlanta

Calling the defensive genius of Leslie Frazier and Lovie Smith!

No pressure on Matt Ryan tomorrow night will spell doom for Tampa Bay. So find ways to take smart chances and dial up pressure, even with a rash of injuries.

The Bucs need to pull out all the angles and disrupt the pocket, explains former Bucs tight end and current Buccaneers Radio Network analyst Anthony Becht.

It’s the middle of the pocket the Bucs need to push most, Becht says.

“We’re going to have to sugar the A-gaps with some of our linebackers and push that pocket back so we can get [Ryan] off the point and cause him problems. If not, guys, he’s going to shred us,” Becht said on the Ron and Ian show this morning. “He shreds everybody if you give him a pocket.”

Joe agrees with Becht, but more than that the Bucs need to score points on offense, and on defense, to win this game. So far, the Bucs defense hasn’t been able to stop two quarterbacks not even half as good as Ryan. And those Carolina and Rams receivers? They’re not in Atlanta’s league.

It will be stunning of Atlanta scores less than 21 points. The Bucs offense is going to have to hum to win.

Hmm… A bucs game where everything damn near has to go right to win? Yeeeah, about that… smdh

This is the first top offense we’ve faced. Carolina isn’t the rams please… There’s no reason to think that somehow now that we’re facing an explosive offense we’ll somehow get pressure or actually cover a receiver. Watch if you dare but if the first two games were bad the next 6 will be unwatchable

I’m not sure a perfect game is possible with savior Lovie.

  4. BucBob1 Says:

We must eat the clock up with long time consuming drives, ending in touchdowns, not field goals!

They are the opposite of our first two opponents. Horrible defense good offense. I would really prefer to see Lovie switch to man coverage for the season but I know that wont happen. We have to take shots all game on offense. You gotta go into these games like an all out gun fight. Take shots…kill or be killed. JOE…. any word on Tedford tonight. It seems its kond of fizzled out from being a weekly question. This is a big game. Im hoping he had this pegged on the calendar.

  6. McBuc Says:

Atl did not look high powered last week. They scored 10 points, and the TD was late in the game.

We’re going to smash tonight. Everyone will be taking back their horrible re-predictions and put us back in the playoff thought.
    Blissfull blissfull ignorance

  8. Brian Says:

Tonight we will get to see what our offense CAN do when they have to score points…

  9. Joseph Mamma Says:

And when you say the offense needs to hum, do you mean give sexual favors to the other team? Because that might be the only way we’re scoring tonight.

  10. BoJim Says:

Well. This is the first Bucs game I get to watch on TV. Hoping for a win of course but I’ll scream for them as I have since 1977.

Even if they were 2-0 they would have to play almost a perfect game to best Atlanta in the dome. Their offense is fantastic there, but their defense is brutal. Bucs need 28-31 to have a chance IMO. Let’s see what this coaching staff is made of. If they open up the offense with deep throws and high point end zone and Josh messes up that’s on him. To me Josh has messed up a few bad plays but what QB hasn’t? He’s playing right and forcing be because the play calling is handcuffing the teams supposed strengths and mismatches.

It’s gonna be embarrassing to watch .

    …rather watch a “chick flick”….

  14. pick6 Says:

maybe we contain the big plays, but Matt Ryan is going to find the holes in our zone coverage even better than the 2 scrubs we’ve played so far. that triangle between backup MLB Dane Fletcher and our safeties will be a little slice of heaven for Matt. falcons will dominate possession and will convert 1st downs at will from medium or short distance.

  15. pick6 Says:

if we score 5 TDs led by a dominant running game, we can win. anything less than that and the falcons run away with this one at home. falcons will punt less than 3 times
