Josh McCown supporters are dwindling outside of One Buc Palace
It’s not just Joe who sees zero point to continuing the Josh McCown Experience.
Hired primarily to be a leader, protect the football, and make smart decisions while maximizing his talent, McCown has failed on all fronts. And, more important, the Bucs are 0-3 and the season is lost.
Former Redskins and Texans general manager Charley Casserly jumped on WDAE-AM 620 this morning and said the Bucs should “stay the course” when it comes to the rest of this season — with one major exception.
“I would rather play Glennon than McCown anyway,” Casserly said. “I thought last year he showed enough to continue to work with him. He wasn’t necessarily the answer. I mean, it wasn’t a black-and-whiter to say, ‘Ok, we got our guy here.’
“But I saw enough out of him as far as his throwing talent and his improvement decision-making, and he is a smart guy. I’d throw out the last game because he was coming off the bench and the whole offense looked out of sync there for a number of times in the game.”
Casserly later said the Bucs should finish the season with Glennon to see what they have, before embarking on adding more talent in the offseason to the offensive line and, possibly, getting a new QB.
“I do see promise in Glennon, I always thought McCown was a backup quarterback. And I don’t think [McCown] played consistent enough that he was in there to get you excited enough that he was going to be your answer.”

Wrong! The season is not lost. But, but, but, the team is lost, without leadership and compass settings from anyone in the entire organization. No help from media nor blogophiles. Thank God for that.

Starting Glennon is the right decision. Lovie’s win now approach to the season isn’t panning out. I don’t believe the season is lost, but it’s certainly off the tracks at this point. McCown was never the long term answer, only a stopgap. If the organization feels Glennon is the future QB for this team, they might as well find out now. If he can’t get the job done, Lovie and Licht can go into the offseason knowing they need a QB via draft or trade. There’s no point finding this out next season, find out now.

Ey guys Alex Garcia from the L.A. KISS is available. Plus he runs his own offense. We wouldn’t need to hire an OC if he comes. Plus he comes at a cheap price. Essentially we will get a QB/OC for the price of a practice squad player. Talk about bargain!!!

This has been my standing on Glennon for a while now. Is he an absolute no doubt franchise qb? I’d say no. Is he absolutely a no doubt career backup? Got to say no again. Did he do enough in season 1 to warrant more than a token glance at? Absolutely. Oddly enough, he seems to be the “game manger” type that Lovie wants. I know in underwear, McCown beat him out, but once the pads went on it has been a toss up. So, as a franchise, do you see what you have in Glennon, prior to a strong QB draft, or do you rely on a 35 yo journeyman to take your 0-3 team to the playoffs? Playoffs? Did you say playoffs? Playoffs.

The smart move for Lovie is this:
Play Mike Glennon in the next game and tell McCown he should take a week to heal up better.
It enables to start a different QB without controversy. Then, if Glennon plays well enough, worry about the next step next week.

Remember enjoying football? If it isn’t positive, if it makes you negative, maybe take up a calming hobby and stay down until you don’t have to whine like a gossip-Nancy, because it’s pathetic.

The Exterminator agrees with Casserly’s opinion. It is the most logical one. McCown is a good guy and probably still a better option than Glennon in Lovie and OC’s eyes, but he isn’t the future and we need to assess if Glennon is. Don’t forget Kafka though. He may be the world’s worst QB, but just like Glennon deserves his shot, Kafka deserves one too when Glennon looks just as bad as he was last year.

Completely agreed and this is what was baffling to us. I thought in the NFL for historically bad franchises there is supposed to be competition at every position. Imagine if Pete Carroll made the same proclamation about Matt Flynn two years ago during Seahawks training camp. The Seahawks would not be Super Bowl champions.

Mike Glennon is garbage and I’ll never back down from that but he may have been more prepared to start the season if so much time and so many snaps hadn’t been wasted on josh mccown, another mistake directly pointed at lovie Smith….. He may improve this team eventually but this set back is on him, so far has done more harm than good

With our OC out now and QB coach taking the reigns, we will see if he changes the way he has been doing things. If he doesn’t change is play calling then we will lose again. Plain and simple here folks. Running all the time and not throwing isn’t going to work.

I don’t care how good the QB is if the defense is giving up 56 points. Lets start prioritizing and place focus where it needs to be and that’s on the defense. I’m a big Glennon supporter, but if the defense plays like that then it will carry over to the offense as added pressure to score. I actually don’t want Glennon to start right now until the defense can get their act together. Glennon is not experienced enough to overcome that kind of pressure. I do believe this is why Lovie does not want him to play right now. Unfortunately he has no choice.

I was one of the few (and yes, there were others besides me on JBF) who last season, before Lovie was even in the picture, thought that McCown would be a good target for the Bucs.
Although Lovie was not my “First Choice” as to who the Glazers should have hired as Head Coach, Lovie; and his speeches about sitting around in his basement and getting a feel for what went wrong in Chicago, along with what I believed was a strong Free Agency acquisition period and then a pretty damn good draft (On Paper) convinced me that the Bucs were on the right track!
The Lovie/Licht announcements of “We Want To Win Now!”; along with a number of local and national Football Prognosticators’ predictions, as well as my own fifty year prognosticating experience observations led me to believe up until three weeks ago, that the Bucs could be at least a .500 team and with a little luck going their way, maybe even the 2014 version of last year’s Kansas City Chiefs, and a possible chance for a playoff run.
One thing that I never thought, nor do I see now, is Mike Glennon being Franchise QB material, nor do I think Glennon can be a good “Game Manager” QB, although I do think Glennon is extremely bright and capable….
What I do believe nhow, (and I am the eternal optimist!) is that “If” we go to Pittsburgh on Sunday and get our asses handed to us, the Glazers really do need to make a change “NOW” and end this charade…..Admit that this whole “Blast From The Past” experiment with Lovie was a mistake, and let’s attempt to take what pieces are salvageable and go in a different direction for next year. Do it now, rather than later…..

Sure you do Casserly, because you saw promise in Matt Schaub. And IMO Schaub=Glennon. “Almost” a starter. A very good backup. Don’t get me wrong, I not only don’t hate Glennon, I will be rooting for him on Sunday. Nothing would be more awesome to me as a Bucs fan than to see MG8 turn into a stud. But I am not among the believers. No Kool Aid for me.

If Glennon had been the starter would the team be better than 0-3 and would McCown still be on the bench? Would the blocking and run game have been better? Would the receivers have gotten open and catch the ball? Would the front 4 have penetrated and pressured better? Would the secondary and linebackers have stopped anybody? Would the kicker have kept the ball away from the best return man in the game? Would the playcalling and in-game adjustments been better? There are more problems on this team than who’s playing QB. I hope the team pulls together and does well with Glennon but he can only play his position. Maybe everybody else will too.

You want a QB competition…bring in Tim Tebow!
He will not cost much….gives the Bucs an option if Glennon gets hurt…and will be the only QB in the building who has beat the Steelers!!
He will sell out the stadium…he will drive the Big Dog crazy….all positives!

As it stands now…you have Glennon and who? = No Competition!!
I am ok with giving Glennon a shot….but come on Tebow has been a winner all his life…at every level. The only reason Denver released him is they got Peyton Manning. We are not Denver.

What about the wideouts or dare I say duncaneers? They have to be the slowest wr in the game. There is no seperation. Most passing plays result in coverage sacks becausd of thesr wr. Should have kept Streeter for some speed
