The Luke Stocker Revival Tour

Luke Stocker got his share of first-team action Saturday

You saw him. Big No. 88, healthy at last, healthy at last, was spotted on the field with the first team offense on Saturday night.

And no, Luke Stocker wasn’t there to squirt Gatorade in Vincent Jackson’s mouth.

Stocker was in the action, first-team action. And Lovie Smith praised his first-team tight ends yesterday while saying he wasn’t terribly pleased by what he got from the second teamers (Tim Wright and Austin Seferian-Jenkins).

“I felt like our 1s definitely held their own; Our 2s didn’t do as well,” Lovie said.

Even more piling on came late yesterday: Tim Wright is in Lovie Smith’s doghouse. Lovie told BSPN that Wright is struggling blocking and catching.

So is Stocker now a lock to make the Bucs roster, assuming he stays healthy? One would have to think so on this August day — for now.

Saturday in Buffalo represents the “dress rehearsal,” per Lovie, for the regular season. If Stocker’s back playing with the first team, then it would sure seem like he’s going to stick. Joe wouldn’t bet against the Bucs keeping allĀ four tight ends.

Wait for it …wait for it. When injury prone Stocker goes down with another injury, then Wright will be a shoe-in to make the roster. It’s just a matter of time.

  2. Beeric Says:

There’s no dust on Stocker’s crutches. They will keep 4 TEs

  3. DallasBuc Says:

A reasonable possibility would be to drop Brandon Myers but that would involve cutting one of the quantity over quality FAs so you know that will not be considered.

Myers has a guaranteed contract for $2 million. He’s not going anywhere, plus he was with the No. 1 tight ends Lovie praised. –Joe

    ON the new uniforms:
I’ve figured out that it’s a practical joke on the fans
by the team. OK. HA hahaha that was funny!
Now please go back to the real uniforms.
    THanks in advance.

    Luke Stocker?

That warrants one of those famous old John McEnroe screams:

    “YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!!”

  7. HFXBUC Says:

He’s an beastly blocker right? Now add in the fact that we have OG’s that need help to be effective. Plus this is an offence that will do a ton of quick hit stuff to RBs and WRs so having a guy that can get down field and block is vital. He’s might play a ton this season. Same with Lane…. he takes the first defender or helps inside penetration to free up the RB’s to make plays.

I was really hoping this would be the year Stocker gets sent packing because he’s useless in games. Oh well.

I’m waiting for the day this team goes the the playoffs. Because I wanna see if that stops the bitching. I get it ten years without an appearance. I’ve been there two. I’m always trying to be positive on these forums. We’ll be fine guys. Not 12-4 fine. Not 4-12 bad but 7-9 – 9-7 fine

  10. biff barker Says:

We’ll be a better team with a healthy Stocker on board.
Who else is going to block?
BTW, Wright can play H Back, slot WR and line up anywhere like ASJ. The skill sets vary enough to justify 4 TE’s.
Time to get past the Stocker hate.

  11. stratobuc Says:

What the Hell is a “shoe-in”? You mean a “shoo-in”? If you don’t know the meaning of a phrase, why use it?

  12. pick6 Says:

i’m figuring 4 TEs, 4 RBs, 4 WRs, 0 FBs…maybe a 5th WR if they choose not to carry a 3rd QB…i hesitate to say this given some of the guys we’ve dumped this offseason, but it seems wright has shown too much to just be left on the street when the final 53 are announced.

  13. Buc the Haters Says:

If Stocker somehow stays healthy (highly unlikely), he is a freakin man beast out there. He’s a huge body, dominant blocker, & a decent pass-catcher. He could help us alot in run game, but relying on him for anything seems ridiculous at this point.

  14. SAMCRO Says:

    @stratobuc

Really? That’s all you got? I make a little boo boo and you’re all over it? You are lame my friend.

  15. Danati74 Says:

Im sorry, but Stocker should be in the dog house still. In one season, Wright has crushed Stockers stats and production. Stocker was 2 4th round picks to a UDFA. Nomore more Rutgers. Maybe if I’m K. Glaud i’m also shaking.
