Excitement Brewing For Rishaw Johnson

August 27th, 2014

The forgotten new guard in Tampa, Rishaw Johnson, doesn’t exactly have fans doing cartwheels like they are about the acquisition yesterday of Pro Bowler Logan Mankins.

However, there is growing confidence inside One Buc Palace.

After a couple of practices with the Buccaneers, Johnson is opening eyes and turning heads, so Joe has been told.

As Joe shared last week, Johnson might have been the best guard on the roster after he was scored in a trade from the Chiefs.

Look for Johnson to start tomorrow night. It’s unclear whether Lovie will roll out the first-team offensive line, all that’s known is Mankins won’t make his Bucs debut until opening day.

Hmmmm, let’s see what kind of complaints the haters will come up with for this thread.

  2. BucsFan47 Says:

Insane, we will have 4 new opening day starters on the offensive line. We got steal with Mankins, man can block and brings an attitude we haven’t had in a long time. September 7 can’t come come soon enough.

  3. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    Team Licht

  4. BucsQcCity Says:

Mankind isn’t a steal. i don’t care much about Wright because of ASJ but anytime we give away a pick in the top 4 round, I’m disappointed.. This time need of today was greater than need of future

  5. Unislookgoodunislookugly Says:

Lovie already said none of the starting O-line was playing tomorrow night. I’m looking forward to The Big Dog show today as he unloads on the Joes today. He basically categorized all media that was against Incognito signing with the team as tree huggers. Should be fun.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If Rishaw plays as mean as he looks……wow!!! This guy looks about 40 already…..bring in Richie and Rishaw can pick on him.

  7. Carls Toe Says:

He’s got the Davin look! Hope he’s nasty like a young Davin!

  8. biff barker Says:

Having played with him, Anthony Becht pretty much swayed my opinion against Incognito.

    Things are much better now.

  9. pick6 Says:

tampabaybucfan, he definitely has the “grandpa face” in his early 20s a la Greg Oden…even if johnson and mankins significantly upgrade our talent level, fans should expect a bumpy start…2 interior OL who missed all of our preseason, 2 OL who arrived in free agency, and an OC who is recovering from a mysterious medical procedure. not a recipe for a quick start, but i’m excited about how our offense might finish the season

  10. pablo Says:

trade this guy for incognito straight up

  11. Orca Says:

^^ ???? Uh, put down the crack pipe.

  12. robert9 Says:

    LOL at pablo. nice.

i like this guy, it was a trade we did not get fleeced on and who can grow.

  13. Patrick in VA Says:

@pablo – …………………………….who in the world are you suggesting that we trade with to get incognito? he’s a man without a team…….there’s no other side of that trade.

  14. Gt40bear Says:

Take off the dreds and he kind of looks like Earl Campbell. Now if he can hit like Earl, we might have something!

  15. 1gr8buc Says:

Joe, there is a story on nfl.com predicting league mvp, offensive and defensive player of the year. Two players were picked from the Bucs defense. Also someone picked Lovie for coach of the year. Off topic but nice to see some national respect.

  16. BucsFan47 Says:

    @BucsQcCity

It wasn’t a steal? What are you smoking? I want some lol.

Seriously, how is it not a steal when you only give up your back up TE and a lousy 4th round pick for an all pro G. Age doesn’t matter on the O-line, he can play until he is 36-27 so that is a good 4-5 years of an app pro G. IM ALL IN!!!

    GO BUCS!

  17. 1gr8buc Says:

Pablo, what the he’ll is wrong with you? Something that helps prevent talking out of your ass is something called Google.

  18. robert9 Says:

    pablo is my idol

  19. Uncle Albert Says:

Great idea Pablo, perhaps we should also trade Josh McCown for Josh Freeman, since he and Incognito play for the same team.

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Don’t pick on Pablo…..he can’t help it!!!

Pablo…..Incognito would pick on you….because they say he’s a racist…..I’m not sure if you are a sissy or gay….

  21. Jnightbreeze Says:

Hey guys, i got some info on him about how he looked during the combine…

    Strengths

Rishaw is a good run blocker who sticks on his blocks and is quick to get into them off the line. He shows a pop to jolt back defenders. He has good foot quickness in pass protection and is a technically sound interior lineman.
    Weaknesses

Some teams will not like his dismissal from Ole Miss, but some will see it as a way to get an athletic player late in the draft because of how it affects his value. He is an unreliable pass protector and has to work in close quarters to be productive.

Tampabaybucfan also likes Joe because Joe refers to himself in the third person.

  23. bucsjunkie Says:

I laughed when I read Pablo’s comment. It was obvious to me he was making a joke. Same sense of humor maybe??

  24. DWE Says:

Pablo, who are we trading with, Incognito’s agent, or perhaps his girlfriend? if the jerk has a girlfriend she might be happy with the trade. you are toooooo funny or just perhaps confused again.

  25. BucsfaninChina Says:

The only thing on his site that has brewed excitement for me are the milk jugs attached to Belichick’s wife

  26. BucBob1 Says:

Bob respects Pablo because he had to learn English before he could post here.

  27. stratobuc Says:

“Hmmmm, let’s see what kind of complaints the haters will come up with for this thread.”

Good thing you got your complaint in first, hypocrite.

  28. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

    Pablo- funniest guy posting!
Rishaw Johnson is a very good guard. He will start opposite of Mankins. He will improve with playing time, and good end up anchoring that guard spot for years.

Big Dog is stealing my material. I called the Anti Incognito wusses Tree huggers two days ago- when the pretentious lil frauds first started crying.

Robert9- dude? What you wanted to play with the guards we had- and have yet another damn losing season??
We got 2 best rated guard in the whole damn league- for a TE we were gonna cut, and a 4th round pick.
You don’t draft great players in the 4th round. Ever
We traded one for a 6 time Probowler- who will play and lead this line, for 3-4 more years.

If you honestly believe- in any way- that we didn’t totally win on that trade, you really are. . I’m trying to be nice here- cause I thought you ussually have good post- are misinformed.
If you doubt it- go read any of the New England websites. They are calling it a desperate and ignorant move by a desperate coach.

Here- a lot of Hayseeds believe Belicheat is some kinda Friggin Yoda.
Up there- he’s had Brady, but hasn’t win a SuperBowl in 10 years. Damn near since we won one.
They are actually blaming him for not winning more SuperBowls. With a dominate QB, they may have a point.

  29. Architek Says:

Why are you guys even entertaining Pablo?

Or even acknowledging his stupidity – if you don’t mention his posts he will go away.

  30. Mumbles Says:

Pablo is president of the JBF AzzClownClub and Robert9 is public relations director!

  31. BamBamBuc Says:

Before we get too excited about Johnson, let’s remember he has exactly one start and only 3 appearances in two season in the NFL. Next, let’s see that he was traded for a backup/bubble Safety and replaced by a rookie (OurLads has KC’s depth chart as LG Jeff Allen 2nd rnd 2012 and RG Zach Fulton 6th rnd 2014). Yes, that’s right, he was replaced by a guy taken after both Pamphile and Edwards. We could have drafted Sims in the 3rd and still got a RG that was better than anyone on our roster (at the time) when we took Edwards or Pamphile.

Sure, Rishaw Johnson is probably better than Cousins and Meredith, and will probably be fine with the other starting 4, but don’t expect miracles.

  32. shrico Says:

This is chiefs recent training camp report:
“But whatever the Chiefs do, they can’t afford any more hits to the offensive line. The player they were initially counting on to start at right guard, Rishaw Johnson, was so disappointing in training camp that he was recently traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.” If this guy is “impressing”, then I hope Licht still has a few more cards up his sleeve.

  33. mpmalloy Says:

Malloy thinks that Pablo thinks that Joe thinks that Pablo thinks
    we should sign Richie…..(or trade)

  34. Bogiedr Says:

So we gave up a TE that was the fourth TE on the team, remember he can’t block anyone. We gave up a fourth rond pick which everyone is acting like it is sacrilege. Please look at our history, remember Aaron Sears? Second round? How that worked out? How about Alex Smith? Remember? Oh, let’s not forget Mr. Clayton! Point is what we gave up in trade is not guaranteed to be better or have more longevity than Mankins. This man probably can play well for another 5 to 7 years, did we get that long out all the names I mentioned combined? Just saying folks, let this play out. We will know at the end of the season.

  35. BK Says:

I think we need to put Mr. Johnson in perspective, one he is not as good (not even close) as Incognito. THIS Year he played with the 3rd string OL in KC for both preseason games. I expect this addition to not be as bright and sunny as some would have you believe… We really F’d the pooch by getting rid of Zuttah! Otherwise L&L have been close to perfect.

-JOE- Did Steve just call you a tree hugger on Incognito issue. Probably the best thing you could do is say hey “I was not right on that one”. Your website fans would probably respect you more for it. 🙂 Dont back track on the radio stating’ its more palatable”…we are listening!!!

Happy Days are coming Sept 7. GO BUCS!

  36. Jon Says:

He’s a guy. KC dumped him and is still looking to upgrade their offensive line. Just read theredzone.org. He is depth maybe. Stop the fantasy, Mankins I get it but this guy nope!

  37. Bogiedr Says:

They also dumped Michael Bennet … Just saying Jon!

  38. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

It was great to hear Duemig argue for Incognito on his show today 🙂

  39. Jon Says:

Who dumped Bennett? Seattle cut him, unless when Bruce Allen traded for the RB Michael Bennett????!

  40. Stanglassman Says:

BamBam; You are one of my favorite commenters on JBF BUT everyone who follows football/draft knows how easy it is to draft in retrospect. I looked at Fulton’s play after the 1st 3 preseason games and ask myself, how could these guys have missed him. I agree and I think its fair to point out but it’s also fair to say it much easier to second guess after the fact. I think why it bothers me so much is because so many people bring up previous drafts and act like they knew all along X player was going to be better than Y player the Bucs picked.

BTW-What’s your opinion on the Mankins trade and are you in favor of having Incognito on the Bucs?

  41. Eric Says:

when did Zuttah suddenly become good?

His claim to fame is multiple positions on the line, none particularly well.

That sounds nice, but Zuttah was on the field when the offense hummed in 2010 and 2012, and in 2008 in place of Davin Joseph. Ozzie Newsome thought he was good enough to start for Baltimore, and give up a pick to get him. –Joe

  42. Orca Says:

Yeah, exactly. People act like trading Zuttah was some epic mistake. They signed a center in free agency who is better than Zuttah, and Z apparently made it clear he didn’t want to play guard. So the Bucs, in order to be accommodating to his wishes, traded him. They got a pick out of it that helped them draft Pamphile, and I think they have hopes for developing Pamphile into a starter eventually.

Also, for those who conclude KC did better with their pick with Fulton in round 6, I wouldn’t jump to that conclusion too early. Both Edwards and Pamphile were described as a little raw. Let’s see how these players compare in a few years.

  43. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

Our old line was overpaid- and under productive.
Let’s see what Licht puts together.
If we sign Incognito- we could have a great line!
And still lots of talent with Johnson.

And I’m sure some high draft picks will be O-line next year.
Can’t fix Mark Dominick’s disaster in one year.
But our old line had to go. Collectively- they sucked

  44. mark2001 Says:

Yeah Stanglass…I remember the draft when Mankins went late in first….wasn’t that the Rodgers draft where he went around 24th of the round as well? I have it…instead of drafting Caddy, we could have traded down and picked up Rodgers and with the extra picks traded up for Mankins. Man, I’m a draft genius…make me a GM…I have 20/10 hindsight.

  45. 77 bassman Says:

    @ chrisapple ……. I totally agree

  46. Andrew 1 Says:

No way in hell we sign Incognito now. Take it to the bank.

  47. Jon Says:

Capt Tim. We may have a new offensive line that we have overpaid as well. Collins, smith and Mankins? Hopefully they play well but all three were not wanted by their previous clubs. Sad but true fact.

  48. Orca Says:

^^ Not facts exactly. Collins and EDS were free agents. Sometimes players move on and teams make financial decisions that are independent of whether they want the player or not. Mankins wasn’t unwanted either, but the Pats wanted a young TE and they had depth on the OL, so they could afford to move him. So there’s the actual facts….

  49. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

Hopefully Mankins wants to win a SuperBowl!!
He has never won one yet!
Bet that surprises the “Belacheat is God” crew

  50. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

Jon- if they play great- they aren’t overpaid.

  51. Jon Says:

Agree, if they play to their salary then happy to have them. Like Vincent Jackson. He’s already outplayed his contract and I love him. Collins scares me and Mankins is old for oline. Just worried, not everything works out, that’s not L$L fault just reality

  52. mpmalloy Says:

    I’m pretty psyched.
All this line improvement and we have a
defense that will bite you in half off and then growl at you.
(while playing perfectly within the rules of course)

    ___________________________

Yeah, at this point I have to agree. Why have the media circus when you
have Logan Mankins and some young guys who’ll get better.

  54. BamBamBuc Says:

Stan, the retrospective look at the draft was for multiple reasons. One, it was to show how much of a crap shoot the draft is. This is because I’m sick of people dogging on the Sims pick. Two, it’s to temper expectations on Johnson. Not hard to be better than Cousins and Meredith, but he may not be much more than Edwards.

I’m not opposed to Incognito with the right contract. It should basically be week to week, no guarantees, and if the scumbag steps even on the line he should be gone. He would not only need to play Guard, but play a freakin’ angel too. I’m not sure the need (since we have Mankins) is great enough anymore, but I won’t disapprove if the team finds him necessary.

  55. Capt.Tim,Back from Davie Jones's locker Says:

After week one- Incognito is a Buc!

  56. Bogiedr Says:

Jon, kc dumped Bennet the de … That is how he got to Tampa, how long have u been a fan, 6 months?

  57. Tony Wilson Says:

    Mankins & Johnson starting week#1
    No choice.
    The other two are garbage.
    Good job front office.

  58. phil Says:

Does anyone know why Rishaw Johnson was kicked off the Old Miss team?

  59. Jon Says:

@bog. Seriously??? Call me out when you are flat out wrong. Go back. Seattle cut him and Bucs claimed him. You sir are looking up the wrong Bennett. Just read the guys bio. Knucklehead
