For me it’s a tie between “Strong belief in how Sims fits in the new offense” and “Coach and GM believed he was the best available player on the board.”

Why isn’t “keeping Dougie’s legs fresh an option? That would fit under lack of confidence in other running backs. –Joe

What the hell I went with best available, though probably best available that fits the offense. Any are plausible except maybe lack of confidence in Martin (seeing as his injury was probably healed even before the draft)

Martin is the primary back but I see this new kid making some big plays for us this year.
Some may be the difference in games.

To me ‘fit for the system’ and ‘lack of confidence in RB’s behind Martin’ are the same thing.
James showed some flashes, but has an INCREDIBLY short resume, and is no guarantee to stay healthy. Bobby Rainey started hot but is small and quickly came crashing back to earth. Jeff Demps has world class speed but who the hell knows how long he’ll stay healthy.
If Martin gets hurt and you don’t draft a RB, you’re THIN at the position. Almost no NFL experience, and small guys and injury prone guys backing him up.

Running this site is an expensive proposition. Joe never has been and never will be a charity. Joe has more content on a daily basis than any local Bucs site. If those clicks outrage you so much, hope you enjoy going to sites that don’t have that option that rarely update during the offseason.
Do you lodge the same complaints at the Tampa Tribune, the Tampa Bay Times, SI.com, BSPN, The Big Lead, Deadspin, Bleacher Report, and so many others which use the same feature? Joe’s going to guess you don’t. So why is Joe being singled out?
Of course, if Joe was really money hungry as you suggest, he could get rid of the “Read more” feature and start charging visitors to read the content. Would that satisfy you?
Lastly, at the time of the “Read More” change, Joe was clear that the change was to make the site cleaner and more pleasant to visit for the typical reader here. Traffic has grown significantly since the change.
Don’t be such a dumbarse.

With Tedford as the new OC, I have a strong belief that the only answer and primary reason that can be valid is a Strong belief how Sims fits in the new offense.

Good fit I think. Nice change in running back style between Sims and Martin. Guessing about a 70/30 split with both guys on the field at times.

So they picked a big back with speed and that is a proven receiver when our offense was terrible last year, Oh the irony of the complaints.

He got drafted because he has similar traits to Matt Forte. Strong runner and can be a work horse if needed, Good speed and agility, and above all else excellent in passing downs as a protector and a catcher. Honestly, i couldn’t be happier with the decision. For all the talent Doug Martin has, he wasn’t very good as a pass catcher out of the back field.
If it has been blatantly obvious yet. Lovie has basically mirrored the offense in Chicago right now. Big Tall receivers one stud Veteran and a talented rookie. Big pass catching TE’s. A smart savy veteran QB to manage the games on the field and eliminate mental mistakes. Then a Do it all RB who, is excellent on passing down, or as a strong between the tackle runner.

So, how does this poll fit in with the oft stated ( by the Joes ) that Sims might well be the path to a longer and more productive career for Martin, thru fewer Reps ?
I didn’t see that as one of the choices, though ‘ lack of confidence in the back-ups’ might indicate that, I suppose. And yes, I tend to agree with that view.
