Bucs Draft A Big Ten Tackle

May 10th, 2014
New Bucs OT Kevin Pamphile of Purdue.

New Bucs OT Kevin Pamphile of Purdue.

The Bucs dipped deep into the offensive line pool today and pulled up an offensive tackle from the football factory known as Purdue.

This young man’s name is Kevin Pamphile, another big dude at 6-5, 310.

Here is a synopsis of Pamphile from NationalFootballPost.com.

At his campus Pro Day workout, Pamphile posted outstanding workout numbers to rival the top performers at the NFL scouting combine.

The athletic 6-foot-4 1/2, 311-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 4.92 and 4.94 seconds with a 10-yard split of 1.69 seconds. He had a 32-inch vertical leap and a 9-foot broad jump, also bench pressing 225 pounds 25 times.

According to one NFL scout that attended the workout, Pampile “looked very athletic and fluid in his movement skill and positional work. He had a great day and really helped himself.”

Almost sounds like a workout warrior if he was a riser from the NFL Scouting Combine.

In years past, Joe would be geeked about a Big Ten offensive lineman. In recent years, the MAC plays better football than the Big Ten.

To move up in the fifth round, the Bucs coughed up their seventh round pick today and one of the team’s fifth round picks next year to Buffalo.

graded out as a 7th round pick, again, no QB, WE NEED A QUARTERBACK, DRAFT MURRAY ALREADY

  2. ManzielMadness Says:

    Why not Antonio Richardson instead?

  3. Back, from Davie Jones Locker Says:

We are going to be a Zone blocking team.
Both the linemen we have drafted are well suited to that scheme.
    Nicks, however, isn’t.

No way to trade him. Wonder how that plays out.
Or- meybe the Human Armoire has more agility than I’m giving him credit for

QB?!?! Lovie is on record saying that he will keep only TWO QBs on the 53 man roster. He has also made it clear that McCown is his ‘today’ starter (that’s ONE QB), and Glennon is his “future QB” (that’s TWO QBs). Any QB picked up now, would just be a camp ‘arm’. Why waste a draft pick when there will be several available un-drafted?

  6. Nujerzbuc Says:

Jahri Evans 4th round pick. Carl Nicks 5th round pick. Both when healthy are the best Guards in the league. Great linemen are found late especially Centers and Guards

  7. Back, from Davie Jones Locker Says:

    Still need one more Wr.

  8. finishers Says:

they are the players the bucs want not you,so let’s see how they do! and we don’t need a qb ask lovie.

  9. Yeah It's me! Says:

We cant draft a QB. we have no more picks. I tought we did great in the draft.BPA! Excited!! GO BUCS!!!

  10. lurker Says:

brandan, both of our qb’s are questionable…hello. jax has nothing on us.

  11. BOBBY C Says:

You guys cant be serious, You have a guy who is a career backup, and a guy who was dead last in 2013, yeah i feel awesome.

  12. Buchead407 Says:

Excited about our offensive weapons but its gonna ride or die with how McCown plays this year Pray for a qb next year or hope Glennon is the next Peyton manning which I don’t believe he is

  13. BOBBY C Says:

Your hoping for a guy who threw for 13 and 1 interception last year, but look at his career numbers. Only has 58 career starts, 45 interceptions, career completion percent of 59.4, averaged 152 passing per start and has a career qb rating of 77.5. You ok with those numbers, yes it is too late for a qb this year, but quess what, we will be having the same conversation next year. 5 qbs in this draft were better than glennon and we got nothing.

  14. Bucking Nuts Says:

Guys…we are not drafting a QB. Give it up. We addressed the line, we added power on offense, and our defense is already solid. McCown and Glemnon are great and when the wins start piling up, I’m coming back to these draft threads to find out how many of you guys are eating crow.

  15. BOBBY C Says:

Mr. Nut man you will be the only one eating crow

  16. buddha Says:

None of this year’s crop of quarterbacks will exceed the 19 touchdown passes thrown by Glennon in 12 games. Jury is out on Glennon but obviously our coaching staff believes he’s better than any of this years crop hands down. Why posters insist on drinking the cool aid handed out by so called experts is beyond me. Excellent draft this year.

  17. GlenninGrad Says:

The conditions to evaluate mike were not good enough last year for this coaching staff. Obviously Movie has a lot of faith in McCown and enough in Glennon that he has address the gaping craters in the team instead of one that we are at worst adequate at in their eyes. Obviously they saw enough in Minicamp to determine that.

  18. Hawk Says:

    BOBBY C Says:

“… yes it is too late for a qb this year, but quess what, we will be having the same conversation next year.”

I’m OK with that. Next years crop looks to be better than this years’ and I don’t believe that ANY of this years’ group would make a difference on the win/loss ratio of this season. Apparently a lot of GMs felt this wasn’t a deep position, and they are football-smarter than you and I.
If McCown/Glennon (if they are the final two) can’t get the job done, then next year will see the Bucs with (at least) one new QB on the final roster. *I* don’t have money or reputation riding on either one. I look forward to the arguments of who we should pick. (I can’t wait to see who Joe will be drooling over). :^)

“5 qbs in this draft were better than glennon and we got nothing.”

WOW! You KNOW that?!?! For a fact?!?! So, we have a player who set records for his position, yet played less than a full season, with minimal supporting cast, zero/negative mentoring from the guy he replaced, a coaching staff so bad they were FIRED. Remember, the new HC got rid of almost the ENTIRE O-line, but not his “QB of the future”.
And you KNOW that “5” players, who have yet to play a game, with the ‘big boys’, are better?
I believe, Bobby C, that if you think about it some more, you will see that the Bucs aren’t going to the Super Bowl this year, so it doesn’t hurt to get the BIG holes plugged first.

  19. Bucfan#37 Says:

Bobby C… Count yourself among the present and soon to be dwindling Mike Glennon critics who fail to see the talent this player has shown. Eventually your critcism will fall on deaf ears and blind eyes.

  20. Bucky1 Says:

To the Hate Mike Glennon Club! The reason Lovey was not sure about Glennon was 1. He didn’t know him, never even talked to him except to say hello 2. All he heard on the radio (he said he listens to sports talk radio) hate filled talk about Glennon and guess what, he got his fill of that also from Blog sites that are supposed to support our team and players 3. He knew he was going to need to purge some or most of last years team and he wanted to wait till OT’s to really see if Gleenon had to go.
