Cops: No Horseplay

Authorities don’t believe Mike Williams’ account of what happened in his home when he was knifed yesterday.

Last night when Bucs receiver Mike Williams was knifed by his brother (allegedly) in the left thigh and was briefly hospitalized for treatment, Williams told Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies he and his brother were involved in horseplay.

The cops believe that is horses(p)it.

Per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office believes, from evidence and sworn statements from witnesses, that Williams and his brother, who remains on the run from cops, were in a fight, or to be more polite, the ever-popular domestic dispute.

“We are trying to get in contact with the brother to see exactly what happened,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez Nunez. “Witnesses said they were horsing around, but the brother was not on the scene when we arrived.”

An arrest warrant has been issued for Williams’ brother, Eric Baylor, 23, on a charge of aggravated battery/domestic violence, the Sheriff’s Office said. Williams was stabbed in the left thigh with a kitchen knife, officials said.

It speaks volumes to Joe that Williams’ brother is running from the cops, even after a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Why run if you are innocent?

It sure smells to Joe that the brother is the evildoer here.

If his brother is charged with Assault with a deadly weapon, which is a serious charge (Felony), then it’s entirely possible, yet discretionary of HCSO to charge Mike Williams with obstruction of justice, I doubt it will happen, but it is possible.

I would like him to be on the roster for 1 more year to prove he’s focused and making better decisions. Any team management REALLY doesn’t care HOW you make negative headlines, it matters to them THAT YOU’RE IN the negative headlines – victim or not.

Teams don’t like that kind of drama.

Speedy recovery and hope to see him on the field for the Bucs this year.

  3. bigpoppabuc Says:

Wow… This whole story is almost as bizarre as Talib and his mom at the O.K. Corral…. I think we can add Williams to the long list of Buccaneer head cases, which is a shame because I was a big fan of his when he came out of Syracuse and was stoked when we drafted him.

    get your shit together, Mike.

  4. Oil Derrick Brooks Says:

Mark Dominik knows knees and character. That’s what he does.

“Why run if you are innocent?”

    … good one

  6. Mr. Patrick Says:

Has anyone considered the fact that maybe the brother was defending himself?

  7. Eric Says:

Who calls the cops because of horse play? And horses don’t us knives.

C’mon Mike, if your going to come up with a BS story to protect your brother gotta do better than that.

  8. pablo Says:

so you guys don’t want Williams on the team anymore because he got stabbed? Okay

  9. Westsidebucsfan Says:

Maybe it was a stand your ground case and MW is to blame?

  10. WalkdaPlank Says:

They probaby got in a fight and his brother got too caught up and went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Stabbed Mike and realized he just stabbed his brother and took off. And Mike is trying to not send his brother to jail and is covering for him. I wouldn’t sell out my brother either, but I certainly never got stabbed by him either. I don’t think he should get thrown off the team for it. Lovie should support his player till all the facts are out and try to get through. For some reason Bucs fans want to run him out of town too. For what? Partying and then getting stabbed? Just ask yourself, what would Johnny do?

Another sad installment of the legacy that Mike Williams is creating for himself and the Buccaneers. Until recently he has been one of my favorite Bucs so I hope he gets his life in order and things like this stop happening to him. If he can not handle the big time, which appears to be the case, it may soon be time to move on.

  12. Fred Says:

Joe. what makes the adds on the side board play automatically? It has become really distracting at work. I could care less about the adds, but when on the phone and the site updates, suddenly an add is blasting at me. I usually listen to the local sports radio, but turned down low. These I can’t find quick enough to keep from distracting the office.

  13. dreambig Says:

Joe, why do the quotes used in this artical and the artical itself conflict each other:
“the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office believes, from evidence and sworn statements from witnesses, that Williams and his brother, who remains on the run from cops, were in a fight, or to be more polite, the ever-popular domestic dispute.”
    OR ……
“We are trying to get in contact with the brother to see exactly what happened,” said sheriff’s spokeswoman Cristal Bermudez Nunez. “Witnesses said they were horsing around, but the brother was not on the scene when we arrived.”

Did the Witnessess say it was a fight or horsing around. The artical above quotes the Sheriff’s department as saying both. I am so confused!

  14. Orca Says:

It doesn’t matter if the brother is the “evildoer”… This crap doesn’t happen to people who don’t invite insane behavior.

  15. WalkdaPlank Says:

@Orca – it was his brother. Not some drug abusing townie. How was he supposed to know he was gonna get stabbed?

  16. Joe Says:

    dream:

    Both.

Witnesses *told* cops it was horseplay. When they had to fill out a signed sworn statement. the stories changed.

  17. biff barker Says:

    Mr. Patrick,
It very may have been self defense but there is no way to prove it. The cronies/witnesses had plenty of time rehearse the story.
Even if the brother accuses him of assault, they wont have any witnesses.

  18. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Bucfever40 Says
“If his brother is charged with Assault with a deadly weapon, which is a serious charge (Felony), then it’s entirely possible, yet discretionary of HCSO to charge Mike Williams with obstruction of justice…”

No it isn’t, because it is not Mike who said they were horsing around. It was “witnesses”.

Mike can also choose to not press charges.

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    biff barker Says
“The cronies/witnesses had plenty of time rehearse the story.”

Biased statement. The witnesses could just as easily be telling the truth as they saw it. Calling the “cronies” is prejudicial.

  20. lightningbuc Says:

I’m thinking the brother was using a straight-edge to shave that God-awful beard of Mike’s, and he just slipped and nicked him on the leg.

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Orca Says
“It doesn’t matter if the brother is the “evildoer”… This crap doesn’t happen to people who don’t invite insane behavior.”

That’s just dumb. You cannot control the behavior of other members of your family. You cannot always predict their behavior either.

This is his half-brother. For all you know, the guy was acting badly and Mike tried to force him to leave and was stabbed while doing it. If you did the same you would be the victim as well.

  22. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

@BuccaneerBonzai, The HCSO can press charges despite what Mike Williams wants, and they will.
They will use the initial police reports and medical treatments/pictures of the stab wound as evidence, if Mike Williams likes it, or not.
The Police can even call him as a hostile witness, and under oath, he must answer questions about who stabbed him.

  23. Espo Says:

Why would they charge Mike Williams with obstruction? If he didn’t want to cooperate, they would have him sign a waiver of prosecution and be done with it.

  24. JBuc Says:

All you people defending MW by saying he is a victim are completely missing the point. If he’s a victim then he’s a victim of stupidity. Suspended from Syracuse one year then kicked off the team the next. Evicted and sued by landlord for acting like an idiot and now this. Plenty of talent out there that is intelligent enough to produce on and off the field.

  25. Buc the Haters Says:

When you always have ghetto ass people partying/chillin at your house, stuff like this is going to happen every so often. Mike may technically be a victim, but ‘guilt by association’ also kinda applies here. I.E. This type of thing would not happen to a guy like Gerald McCoy while he’s sitting at his crib watching a dvd with his wife. When you’re surrounded by thugs all the time, probably drinking and smoking weed, crazy sh*t is bound to happen at some point.

  26. Mr. Patrick Says:

    @ Biff
Exactly. Mike’s posse don’t want to lose their meal ticket

  27. Owlykat Says:

Now we definitely need to sign DeSean Jackson. If Lovie miraculously turns Williams around we can still use DeSean as our slot receiver and deep threat. Also when VJax is too old DeSean would become our number one receiver. By then for sure Page could step in and be an accomplished slot receiver. If Williams has to be cut this year DeSean would be able to take his place. Watkins will be gone at 7 so we can’t wait for the draft to act.

  28. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Watkins is not the only receiver in this years draft. Yes, he may be gone, but there are several other great receivers to be had, including some with much more size then he has.

  29. Hawk Says:

It’s ‘possible’ that Mike’s brother has unresolved legal issues that caused him to disappear.

  30. Ghost Says:

This story is already old. I listenened to the little puppy and didn’t hear her say anything about it.
