Surprised to hear discussion about the possibility that Schiano might come back. Thought it was a forgone conclusion by everyone that he’s a goner.

No Joe got the idea from me in the comments that the team buys in now and will win five to seven games Glennon will work and the momentum will carry into next year Go Bucs I will lead the fans back!

I know you like Dom, but who went to the Glazers and sold them on Schiano? if it was Dom, then how can you even defend him after that? if it wasnt Dom and it was ALL the Glazers, then I might not be to harsh on the guy. its hard for me to believe though that the Glazers did all the research that goes into finding a potential head coach and came up with the decision to hire Schiano all on there own. as it stands right now, if Dom was the reason why Schiano is our head coach, then he needs to pay for it by losing his job.

I disagree with the mentality that Dom should be gone based on Schiano’s success or lack thereof. I personally am a Rockstar fan. I like him and hope he stays and I think the Glazers like him too. Making a mistake on a coaching candidate should not be solely on Dom. I like the talent he has put on this roster and he’s been particularly good the last couple of years. Schiano had the keys to the kingdom. If he fails, its on himself. Dom has to take some heat for it but I dont think you fire him over it. Like Joe said in the video, if the Bucs have a winning record in the 2nd half of the season and Glennon continues to get better, I see Schiano staying. I give that about a 1% chance. If it happens, Schiano basically deserves to keep his job.

Cmurda …I agree with everything you just said. Raheem is not Don’s fault. I think and will always think Raheem was the Glazers going on the cheap because they were still on the hook for Gruden’s contract. So essentially Dom’s first HC hire is Schiano according to me.
However I won’t listen to the audio Joe and that’s unfortunate. I can’t stand the glee in BD’s voice when he talks about the failure of my team.
If someone tells me there is no glee and happiness over the Bucs lack of success in BIG DAWG’s voice in this segment, then I will listen. I enjoy the Joe’s when they come on, but when they start acting like mini-big dawgs and starting laughing with glee over the state of OUR team it makes me click it off. BIG DAWG IS NOT A BUCS FAN. Not even close and never will be.

your right, Dom shouldn’t be fired just for hiring Schiano. but unfortunately thats just one of the many mistakes hes made of these past 5 years. the bad moves that Dom has made far outweigh the good ones. if his only fault was hiring Schiano then I could probably look past that, but its not. throw in the fact that he also a 24-47 record and its time to find a new GM. I also like what hes done to the roster lately, but 5 years is more than enough time to accomplish more than what we have. imo Schiano and Dom should both go.

Andrew 1..who’s to blame for this mess then? Dom, Schiano or the Glazers? Who gets the blame for the current record that OUR team is in?
I’m not defending Dom either, but if Schiano is Dom’s 1st and only HC hire. Then you have to throw the Raheem hire out the window along with the Dom’s record as GM.

Andrew 1.. Dom’s record of 24-47 does NOT include Raheem’s record as HC if the Glazers made it apparent they wanted to go on the cheap after Gruden. You essentially have to throw Raheem’s record out.

what!?! my neck isnt red… its more of a pale white actually lol. to answer your question Dom and Schiano should both be held responsible, just as Ive said in my previous post. the fact that our previous failing coaching Raheem wasnt Dom’s choice is irrelevant because Dom already got a pass for that and was allowed to hire our now failing head coach Schiano. every wonder why we felt the need to bring in these talented, yet high price free agents in? its because Dom failed at filling those positions in the draft. yes I know its because those drafted players got injured, but thats just tough luck for Dom. you can blame that Glazers all you want but that fact is there can be nothing done about removing them, Schiano and Dom however can and should be removed.

so it had nothing to do with making the team better? your view of things or obviously slanted. dude, just imagine our our secondary without Revis. I can, because I saw it in 2012 when we had the worst secondary and almost broke the record for most passing yards allowed in a season. I mean we have pretty much the same personnel in the secondary that we had in 2012 minus Revis, yet we are a much improved secondary and thats by in large because of Revis. oh how soon we forget these things.

Andrew 1…he’s NOT getting a pass according to you. Your throwing Raheem’s record in with Dom’s and including it. Are you not? So then if your willing to give Dom a pass on Raheem’s record then Dom’s record is essentially 7-17 in less than 2 years.

you can also attribute that improvement with addition of Goldson, but who has been the more productive player thus far, Goldson or Revis? I say Revis.

Andrew…all I’m referring to is that the Revis money could have been spread throughout the secondary, like I suggested in say July. Instead of getting Revis(the big name star that might help sell tickets) the Bucs could have gotten 2-3 quality DB’s and added depth to the secondary instead of what they have now.
We’ll see, and I hope I’m wrong. I like the Revis pick up but not at that kind of money. I think it was all about selling tickets. Have you seen the commercials advertising for the Bucs this season? They keep showing Revis as if he’s going to be the difference maker. It was done to get the fans excited for the season. They did not need to go all out and sign a mega star to the secondary. There were decent FA’s out there. I think the Revis deal was a Glazer move to sell tickets and for that Dom gets another pass.

2-3 quality FA DB’s or 1 Revis. That’s what it boils down to, to me. The secondary is thin after Revis. Banks is a rookie and Johnson well eh, meh.

Andrew 1 the NFL is a business. McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s is also a business. In order to stay in business McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s have to keep coming up with a new sandwich or burger to get consumers to continue to patronize them. They market that burger like crazy, so people want to try it out. Same thing with Revis. Revis sells season tickets. It’s either that or they or I are utterly clueless. It could me. Just look at my past posts. LOL.

I like to think of it as quality over quantity. judging how the bucs handled the CB situation, I think they did as well. I dont know how Revis will do over the long haul, but you still have to give them some props for wanting the best and getting the best. sure some of it might have had to do with tickets sales, but I think it had more to do with trying to make this team better. just my opinion.

what would be more profitable, the short term impact that a big name player like Revis would have on ticket sales, or the long term success that Revis’ talent could potential bring to this team? Im going with the second one.

Uh do we not forget freeman was a bust. Huge bust. Doms first draft is no longer here. Overpaid for fas that were bust. Vincent Jackson worked out last year but he’s had butter fingers all season. Nicks? Bust. Eric wrigt Derrick ward Michael Clayton? Lololololol.
He’s signed mike Williams from the 2010 class that’s it. He held on too draft busts when he should have moved on. Chose bowers over Bennett.
Come on people. Oh yeah. And he gave goldson who is a good safety , not great one, the highest contract for a safety. But Dom says he doesn’t overpay. Let Bennett go for 5mm a yr. let George selvie and Wallace gillbery go who have had more success than Bowes and Clayborn, his two top picks in 2011.
Come on. The drafting improved on 2012 when stokes arrived as director of college scouting and the glazers like him. He needs to be moved to gm.

Probably 90% of signings can’t be looked at after the fact and be called wrong (obviously the Clayton one can). The Wright signing seems like a bad move now, but he was actually one of the only productive CBs on the market that year, and the top CB deals were outrageous, inflating Wright’s contract. Dom put clauses in that got the Bucs off the hook for most of that deal, however. Dom has also put numerous players on the field whom Schiano and his staff decided weren’t worthy of playing (Gilberry, Selvie, etc.). He took a chance by not re-signing a couple injured players, of which Bennett is the only one playing well to my knowledge. The biggest thing is that Dom has drafted fairly well (needs to improve in the later rounds for the most part), and he has been masterful with contracts and the cap (in fact, other GMs throughout the league are adopting Dom’s contract structuring). Personally, I think he is young enough, and has shown enough improvement that he should stay no matter what happens to Schiano (I think they’re both back next year anyway). I would not, however, be crushed if they’re both shown the door.

^ I posted the article in a thread 2 days ago. Schiano doesn’t have final say over the roster cuts. It’s Dom. Schiano manages/hires his staff and has say on the players active on game day.
You can type that up based on one NFL Network article, but reality is it’s not that simple. Schiano has plenty of say, like any NFL coach. Take George Selvie or Wallace Gilberry, for example. Dominik brings them in. Schiano and staff decide they don’t have what it takes, and then Dominik cuts them because there’s zero point to keeping guys the coaching staff won’t play. The typical exceptions would be big money free agents and No. 1 picks. –Joe

Alright, that was an entertaining show (I was working and missed it)….but heres the deal! Steve just doesnt like Glennon because he was a freemanite…still is. So, he’s stuck, and thats ok if he wants to be stuck. Like you guys said “turn the page”!!!!
And give Glennon a little more time to go through his reads with some help on the O line (Matthews or Lewan) and maybe he’ll throw even better.
Ok, eh, schiano coming back? Really? Come on now 😉 (and you guys were pushing for Freeman to be extended early, so, com on now 😉 )

Very pleased this was on podcast and even more pleased you had this up on your site. I have to work during the live broadcast and knowing the history of Duemig/Joe Bucs fan, I don’t like to miss this show, its always epic and makes for great radio.

I agree, this is some “must-listen-to” radio. Joe does a wonderful job of getting his point across without getting too amped up.
I love hearing all things Bucs, especially when the opinions/facts/insight gets looked at diplomatically.
When the Joes aren’t on the show, I get tired of the Schiano hate, and non-accountable application of “blame” for Freeman, Glazers or Dominick.
We are 0-8 for a reason, and it is not solely on Schiano.
