O-Line Gets Challenged

October 23rd, 2013

The Panthers are very cocky when it comes to their No. 2-ranked defense. This story in the Charlotte Observer clearly gives that feel.

Combine that with the Panthers facing the Bucs’ ugly offense, it’s a mix that has Carolina licking its chops.

“Those guys up front, they hunt. That’s what they’ve been doing since Day 1,” cornerback Captain Munnerlyn said. “So if (Bucs wideouts) Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams want to do all those deep routes, they probably won’t have time with our defensive line.”

So there’s a punk Panthers cornerback all but saying the Bucs’ offensive line is going to struggle if Mike Glennon tries to throw a deep pass.

It’s really time for the Bucs’ O-line to bring their A-games. Joe realizes Davin Joseph is on the down side of his career, or just isn’t healthy, but the other guys have to step up. With a rookie running back and a rookie quarterback, Thursday’s success likely rides on a strong game from that unit.

At some point our O LINE needs to show its worth the money. Every off season we have 3 or 4 lineman that are all pro… durring the season, not so much.

  2. D-Rome Says:

Munnerlyn didn’t say anything that wasn’t true.

  3. passthebuc Says:

The draft could solve problems. Trade down and find a future all pro left tackle and center. move Penn to the rt tackle spot and hope Nicks can return. need 2 more CB’s as Banks probably is not more than a 3rd down nickle back. Most needed is someone to evaluate talent.

Winners can talk trash, losers just take it and that’s the team Dom has assembled, losers.

  5. pewterpirate99 Says:

He is soooooooooooo right. Our o-line SUCKS! They are putrid considering the way they were pimped to us all off season. ” One of if not the best o-line in the league” , RIGHT!

  6. Couch Fan Says:

I see a hell of a lot of holding and false starts coming our way this game. I feel sorry for us already.

  7. Couch Fan Says:

    @Passthebuc

So your plan is to get rid of or demote what seems to be our best O-lineman in Dotson?

  8. Couch Fan Says:

Also the cheapest one to pay.

  9. Bucnnole Says:

Donald Penn needs to stop running his mouth and start playing better than he has. He’s soooo overrated.

  10. Warrenfb12 Says:

Success? More like lack there of. I am thinking fail of 2008 MNF proportions. You know the one where the kitties ran it down our throat, and started the slide and HC demise of Jon Gruden.

Positives: Maybe a Glazer will take the podium on Friday instead of Schiano.

  11. Biff Barker Says:

Easily the biggest disappointment this season. Lots of investment with woeful return here.
Joe, why would anyone expect this unit to find themselves at this point in the season? Even with Bostad working his magic, we have a systemic problem.
Defenses have figured out this offense, you need to only look at the Giants and Bucs records.

  12. Nick2 Says:

Our O-line has been getting called out all year and yet nothing seems to light their fire. I remember a day when Donald Penn used to take things personally and now it just seems they just don’t care. Maybe its me but the supposed strength of our team is now its biggest weakness.

  13. Adam L. Says:

    I said it last week.

I see about 4 sacks. About 60 yards rushing. Probably 35-10 Panthers.

  14. zam Says:

An a-hole sure, but perhaps best name ever.

  15. ElioT Says:

    History says:

Our weak-a**, over paid D-Line wont sniff Newton and our weak-a**, extremely over paid O-Line is going to get Glennon killed.

It’s time for the boys (borderline pu**ies) in the trenches to step the f**k up and get it done!

McCoy and Dotson can’t do it all you bunch of scrubs!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  16. Bobby Says:

If Sullivan is smart we will chew the Panthers up in small bites. Glennon is very accurate on the short to intermediate routes. Take whatever the defense gives. Let Tim Wright have another big day.

  17. jlynch Says:

Some one really thinks that Dotson is the bucs best lineman???????? He is lucky to start here he wouldn’t start on many other teams

  18. It Does NOT Matter What You Think! Says:

Tired of people saying that dumb line “He wouldn’t start on many other teams”. Prove it. You can’t. So far Dotson is the only one who is reliable. All 4 other lineman are constantly getting called for penalties and blowing assignments, missing blocks, allowing sacks. If Dotson isn’t the best lineman we have had this year… tell me then smart guy, who is?
