More MRSA?
October 10th, 2013If a report from NFL Insider Mark Garafolo is to be believed, MRSA may have reappeared in the Bucs locker room.
@MikeGarafolo Bucs GM Mark Dominik tells @FOXSports1 the infectious disease specialist working w/ Nicks believes it’s a reoccurrence of initial infection. … Filing to @FOXSports1: Cultures taken from Buccaneers G Carl Nicks are once again showing MRSA in his foot. Believed to be a reoccurrence.
Nicks was cleared with the MRSA earlier this season and returned to play last month. This suggests he was infected a second time. Where that second infection occurred is anyone’s guess.
Nicks missed the first two games of the season with a MRSA infection, contracted during training camp, which also felled kicker Lawrence Tynes.

Assume he will be ruled out then. Unbelievable.
October 10th, 2013 at 3:46 pm
Almost made it out of the bye week without more bad news.
October 10th, 2013 at 3:47 pm
That’s the least of his concerns right now. You are talking about a potentially lethal infection.
October 10th, 2013 at 3:49 pm
He already had it..obviously personal hygiene problems and/or his home is dirty with it.

Paul,
Let’s at least be civil until we have more info. There are laws against saying things like that. Be careful.

He is still going to play Sunday, so it cant be mrsa, as per Schiano’s PC
October 10th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
eeeewwwww, the Bucs are stinky, in more ways than one.
October 10th, 2013 at 3:59 pm
In his defense, he probably has a hard time reaching his feet to clean them. 🙂

Was there a massive scrub down effort at One Buc today? If not, then one might believe its something other than MRSA. If MRSA is the culprit, I’d think that they’d take every step to ensure no other player gets infected.

This is the football season from hell.
October 10th, 2013 at 4:04 pm
It’s some nasty ish going down at One Buc. When they invite me for lunch again. I will respond with a huge HELL NAH!!!!!
October 10th, 2013 at 4:05 pm
Once you have it you have a heightened chance of it resurfacing within the following months.
I’m sure the media will try to lead people to believe it is the Bucs facility, but it doesn’t mean they are right. Or that this story is true.
October 10th, 2013 at 4:06 pm
It could get worse. If Nicks can’t play and Carimi is the starter at left guard, then Glennon is going to have a long day!

“the infectious disease specialist working with Nicks believes that it is a recurrence of the initial infection as opposed to a new strain”

lol

If true they will need to do a scrub down…because Nicks could have spread it around. In fact, it would not surprise me if a couple players get it because of his.
October 10th, 2013 at 4:10 pm
Wonder if he can get a temporary-use exemption for weed or psilocybin mushrooms? Both are powerful MRSA inhibitors.
October 10th, 2013 at 4:15 pm
What’s all this : if Nicks can’t play?
The guy has MRSA on his foot. He is NOT playing anytime soon. We are going to see an IR for him soon.

MRSA is something that is can be contracted anywhere. Most people have a natural immunity and only under certain conditions does it cause problems. It can be a problem in a locker room environment because it can be spread by personal contact. That does NOT mean the source was contracted in the locker room. As a matter of fact, I would bet the house that the source is outside of the facility. MRSA doesn’t survive the cleansing that took place at One Buc after the initial discovery. If it’s back it was brought in again from outside. Maybe Nicks has some nasty tennis shoes???
October 10th, 2013 at 4:21 pm
This is no maybe. Mark Dominik has now confirmed that Nicks has a recurrence of MRSA. Medical experts are reporting that a recurrence is not unusual. Good luck Carl.
October 10th, 2013 at 4:24 pm
@Bobby
Some people are also MRSA carriers, and carriers are more prone to recurrent infections.

One thing is certain…it will be ammo for a certain lawsuit.

‘One thing is certain…it will be ammo for a certain lawsuit.’
How are you gonna ever win? You’d have to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you contracted the infection at One Buc and that you didn’t bring it in from outside. That would be a pretty tall order.
