Gorrer Sacked For Half The Season

September 3rd, 2013

Cornerback Danny Gorrer’s preseason started great with an interception of Joe Flacco, but Gorrer blew his groin that night and surgery a couple of weeks ago has lost him for at least half of 2013.

Today the Bucs put Gorrer on the fancy injured reserve/designated for return list, which means he must sit out half the season. Defensive tackle and Rutgers man Gary Gibson returns to the roster in his reserve role.

Nothing really new or exciting here. The Bucs remain thin at cornerback. Leonard Johnson, per the unofficial/official opening day depth chart released today is a starter along with Darrelle Revis.

I can’t understand how they’re using the roster spots. Now they have 5 DTs and 6 DEs but only 8 OL total, 1 of whom is hobbled (Nicks)… Also, how is Tim Wright more valuable than another OL? Seems it might be time to unload a DE… Could we get something for Bowers in a trade? Maybe a 4th rounder? Then fill that roster spot with some OL help. I just don’t see how you go into the season carrying only 8 OL when one is still nursing an injury and has barely played or practiced in the preseason.

I wouldn’t worry about offensive lineman, we have several on the practice squad. Go look at the practice squad and I think Dominik has a bases covered in case we loose players to injury. The one position we might be light at is LB, but we kept Orlovsky over LB Najee Goode.

*Dominik has all his bases covered

    @Buc1987-

I’m not sure I get your joke.

Are you mocking the idea of getting rid of Bowers or mocking the idea that some other team might give up something for him or mocking the idea that something as high as a 4th rounder could be acquired for him or mocking the idea that I think we should accept a 4th rounder?

In my mind, Bowers status with the team could be tenuous due to underperforming expectations. So the idea that they might want to trade him doesn’t seem all that outlandish. Would I take a 4th rounder for him? Yes, at this stage I think I would. Do I think we could get a 4th rounder? Hmmm, that is an interesting question. I don’t know how he is perceived around the NFL, but he’s got a ton of ability. He’s healthy and he was once considered a top 5 pick. He also has put up decent sack numbers in limited time on the field. I just don’t think he’s gonna be the guy they want him to be here. Maybe a 4th round compensation is a pipe dream. I wouldn’t trade him for a 7th or a 6th, but maybe a 5th. I just don’t know how deeply disappointed they are in him and if they’d be interested in unloading him.

Not that this is a Bowers thread or anything… But it is interesting that they kept 6 DEs and are thin across the OL.

Oh my God, the sky is falling! Great, got that out of my system. On a serious note and taking into consideration a regular season game has yet to be played. They will be fine with the current roster.

I don’t know my fellow fans, I am not feeling to good here. I was excited with Goldson and Revis on the team, but so many question marks still. Pass rush being the top. And I also agree we have a bunch of DE’s, but doesn’t seem like it’s a good thing. Hope someone steps up big time. Season comes down to #5,and the quality of the pass rush, and as always health.

Wait til the ManBeast A. Clayborne makes this Dline one of the best in the league. Many forget how damn good this line looked before his injury. Dude is a stud. McCoy is a monster too, better than Suh. Bowers will benefit and you will all be riding this teams jock. You fail to realize that Schiano is doing what needs to be done in his eyes as far as getting the most out of Bowers. Do we have depth? Hell no. But the starters will produce more than everyone thinks.

Stop paying attention to national media guys that have not even seen the team practice. We’ll have a pass rush.

DE might seem heavy now but 2 injuries and we’re hurting. At DT if GMC is injured we’ll all be glad Dom stocked up.

I agree LB is a little thin…but not as thin as people think. We have cross position players.

Good or bad, we won’t know probably until after the 4th game.

John, apparently you are a fair weather fan who complains without paying attention. Mark Dominick DID sign a proven defensive back. He is the best in the league. He’s getting 15 million per year.

Dominick also added to the secondary by signing a probowl safety.

So please. If you plan to ignore truth and facts and just wish to express your hatred of Dominck rethink your stance.

    LeonardJohnson starting?

Does anybody else think that Schiano plays favorites?

Look at Leonard the RB? Schiano loves him, so He plays him.

Preston Parker was a thug. So he cut him.

Leonard Johnson got destroyed by the Redskins!

They went at him on every throw!

He is a great guy, but he is not a starting CB in the NFL!!

    Im sorry to say it.

Who cares if Revis can shut down one side!

Its doesnt matter if our orher CB sucks!

Being atop the depth chart and starting are two different things.
