Talib Makes A Friend: Tom Brady

August 4th, 2013

Yes, Joe’s been curious about the actions LeGarrette Blount and helmet-wielding, cabbie-slugging, Adderrall-popping, coach-cussing, referee-charging, pistol-friendly, granny-hassling Aqib Talib in Patriots camp, especially with the Bucs heading to New England next week and in Week 3 of the regular season.

Talib has been shining and healthy throughout camp, including two picks of Tom Brady at Pats night practice for fans. He also won some sort of annual Patriots award for offseason dedication. And The Boston Globe notes that Talib and Brady are bonding in a big way.

Talib’s first training camp with the Patriots, after the 2012 midseason trade, has given him the chance to learn more coverage checks and calls, and that’s a byproduct of a continued chemistry.

He has also formed a fun on-field rivalry with Brady, as the two like to bark back and forth at each other during practice. So far, Talib has the early upper hand against Brady and his younger receivers.

“Me and Tom, we go back and forth. It’s all fun,” Talib said before referencing the pick-six. “That’s Tom Brady, man. You’ve always got a smile on your face when you can make a play on Tom.”

As much as Darrelle Revis wants to face — and dominate — the Jets, Joe can only imagine that Talib can’t wait to square off against the New Schiano Order and do some trash talking to Josh Freeman. Joe can’t wait. Talib has always been more about hype than substance.

As for Blount, you can catch up on him here.

Talib better shape up. I don’t think after the Hernandez crap that the Pats and Belicheat will put up with anymore gangster behavior. I’m sure Kraft and Belicheat told him that too. As for Blount, I wish him the best.

  2. Couch Fan Says:

Sounds like the same story from his last off season here. He was the definition of a “Buccaneers Man”…. until he got suspended..

I have no ill will for Talib and hope he really is turning his life around… but something tells me its only a matter of time.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Maybe Talib will start flying straight….but with the Bucs it was like a bad marriage….glad he’s gone and we got a pick for him.

He is like an ex wife who loses some weight, dresses up and starts to all of the sudden look better…but you know what’s underneath……”Not a Buccaneer Man” I can’t imagine our team with him on it…..not good chemistry.

  4. Biff Barker Says:

This story is somewhat akin to spraying Lysol on the turd.

  5. PRBucFan Says:

Talib has all the skill in the world to dominate in this league, his only problem when it comes to the game of football has been he seems to be injury prone.

If he can stay on the right path and stay healthy the patriots have themselves a star.

Too bad he couldn’t turn it around here, than again Belichick is one of a kind.

  6. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

The way I see it is give the Bucs another year and they will be highly competitive with the juggernaut teams. Maybe even by mid season this year.

My prediction is a Giants Bucs NFC Championship game, with the Giants winning. Broncos win the AFC Championship game and we see Peyton vs Eli.

But my desire, as always, is that we win the NFC Championship game! And the next game.!!!! (yes, Homer and proud)

  7. PRBucFan Says:

I actually don’t see the Giants doing much in the NFC this year.

That would be an interesting scenario

  8. PRBucFan Says:

Im thinking the Redskins take that division with a healthy RG3

  9. ted Says:

Talib and Blount will be in the playoff’s this season, we will be talking about who the new G.M. Will be. these guys can not play for the bucs, but they can play for a hall of fame coach, make you think about who, want to win and can deal with pro football players.

  10. Buc1987 Says:

Look it’s like this. After MY Bucs win a close game against N.O. They are going up to N.E. and are going to have another close one. Although I have a very homer feeling that they might kick the crap out of the Saints. If that happens then that will definately carry them over to a good solid win against the Pat’s. That’s when the national media’s eyes will start to look upon My Bucs.

and remember this on Sunday: JUST BE LOUD!!!

  11. Buc1987 Says:

Hey ted, guess what? Your an idiot. I truly do mean this too. Blount and Talib. Ha Blount might not even last through the 1st 2 games if he starts fumbling like he did for MY Bucs. That’s even if he makes the squad. Nope ted your wrong about playoffs for Tom and gang. They are too depleted this season. Tom Brady does not scare me so much anymore with less weapons. If MY Bucs are healthy they will beat them. I’m not even going to mention thug Aqib. Not a Buccaneer Man.

and remember this on Sunday: JUST BE LOUD!!!

^^^^ dumbest comment I’ve ever read

  13. Dreambig Says:

@PRBucsfan, can you name a single game when playing for the Bucs that Talib actually dominated or shut down anyones receivers? I can’t, and I surely know he is no match for Atlanta receivers. They owned him every game. It curious that you think he has all the skill in the world to dominate.

  14. Couch Fan Says:

Talib is the equivalent to Freeman as a football player to mei. They both are talented and flash potential but both leave a lot to be desired and make bone headed plays far to often.

  15. Buc1987 Says:

    @Dreambig ….not like Revis!

  16. Buc1987 Says:

With Pats or not. Not a Buccaneer Man and that’s all that matters. Schiano has a vision of what a Buccaneer Man is. That’s all that matters right now. Toes on the line baby. That means for everyone. It’s going to be like a fraternity it that locker room. Each will identify with eachother as Buccaneer Men. Unity. I think that’s what he’s doing, looking for people with not only great skill, but great character. If this college like fraternity approach works and they come together. It’s going to be special. Cannons will be firing like crazy all day long.

  17. MadMax Says:

I know you’re curious Joe, but Im not. Who cares whats going on with him….just saying 😉

  18. scubog Says:

Funny analogy Tampabaybucfan. Here’s another. Players who have on going problems are like cars that break down a lot and need fixed up a little. After putting up with it for four years, let someone else do the overhaul.

  19. PRBucFan Says:

If you can make that comment with a serious face than you have obviously not watched Talib play “when healthy” and at his best as a Buc.

Because he has indeed done what it is you claim to be blind to.

Again, he has all the skill in the world to dominate in this league and it has been seen in flashes and obviously it’s been noticed by the NFL.

If he can stay healthy and on the right path he will do just that.
Oh and he’s young too, he’s not yet reached his full potential. It was his time to move on from here, I believe that, but that had nothing to do with talent and everything to do with off the field issues.

    You are correct sir!
