Glennon Starts With A Bang, Scoring Drive

August 8th, 2013

The final play of the first quarter was the first of quarterback Mike Glennon’s career. Glennon scrambled under pressure and fired a strike to Tom Crabtree, who scampered 61 yards.

It was all smiles on the Bucs sidelines among the Bucs’ quarterbacks. Glennon and Josh Freeman fist-bumped.

Glennon came back after the second-quarter whistle and hit Chris Owusu on an intermediate route.

But it got tougher quickly, rookie running back Mike James got blown up in pass blocking and Glennon’s arm was hit. The refs ruled it a fumble but it was overturned — incomplete pass. Soon after, Glennon very slightly underthrew Owusu at the seven yard line.

Field goal, Buccaneers, a 77-yard scoring drive in eight plays.

The rookie looked calm and cool. He looked like an NFL quarterback. Joe will give him that.

I’m sorry, but Napolean Dynamite just ain’t gonna fit in with the NFL.

    My 2cents…

Glennon looks like a serviceable backup. You can feel the tempo drop low when he enters the game…he has a lot of poise for a rookie. He does look calm and collected, he had a few opportunities to scramble out of pressure, but opted for rushing his check downs…i like the way the ball comes out of his hands. For his debut, he looks a bit rattled to date. Let’s see how he performs later on…

This shanty of a pass block isn’t helping either.

Mike James, you will take Michael Smith’s roster spot…needs development for sure…pass blocking is quack.

Means looks fast coming off the edge, needs to develop a better second move.

Banks is looking great so far, but damn he is skinny. Reminds me of myself (mentally) always looking for contact but physically not best suited for it….I’m getting at their were many injuries…let’s hope he drinks a lot of milk.

I guess Tom Crabtree can catch.

LD54 is going to be a monster

more to come..it’s early but it’s FOOTBALL SEASON! LET”S GO BUCS! WOOOO

Looks like a Frankenstein version of Tom Coughlin!

  5. Splengo Says:

Kid begins with a bang, might end with a thud! Better hold your fire until the game is over! I’m pulling for the guy, but might be a tad early to anoint him as the one! Looking kinda shaky bout now!

  6. Couch Fan Says:

Agreed, he didnt look lost out there at all. Nice start to his pre-season.

  7. Robert Says:

    Glennon 7 in 1 possession
    Jfro 3 in 2 possessions

  8. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I’m not THAT impressed with Glennon. He’s got a long way to go just to be a competent backup. I think the Bucs should make him the #3 this year. Dan-O is better for now…depending on hos Glennon does the rest of the preseason.

  9. Timmer4444 Says:

If Glennon starts this year It won’t be Glennon that beats Freeman , it’ll be Freeman who beats Freeman

  10. Buc'n Junkie Says:

Yeah he didn’t look to bad against the Crows 3rd string UPS drivers. lol

    QB controversy …lol

I knew somebody would say that…

  11. Couch Fan Says:

Wow, no clue what that throw was.

  12. coop Says:

glennon’s arm strength looks very exaggerated but this game does show that we cant depend on late round drafted rookies and backup’s and be considered a serious contender but steven means looks powerful and extremely quick

  13. Buc'n Junkie Says:

Look it all the Tampa people rooting for the Ravens. What a joke. They said in the broadcast that they probably traveled all the way down here. For a glorified practice. I doubt that. If the Broncos win the SB this year the same people will be wearing Bronco crap next year. lol

  14. coop Says:

an ex head coach having trouble coaching special teams….they look worse than last year, shocked to see danny gorrer before L johnson but i prefer the big corners over ronde types especially in this division

  15. Buc'n Junkie Says:

Our team didn’t look fresh. The Ravens looked fresh. Must be the conditions they train in. All that heat and sweating has to take a toll. Even Miami looked tired last Sunday.

  16. Jason A Says:

Well atleast we know Weber SUCKS!!!!!!

  17. FR Says:

Why do the bucs look like a college team?

  18. FR Says:

Tampa please get better scouts Geeeee Wizzzzz

  19. Gus Says:

@Robert just shut up that was against backups. Glennon was not very impressive this game to me. That first drive was good but he missed quite a lot of reads. I’m not down on him at all. He is a rookie so this is to be expected but anyone thinking he will be ready to play week one is out of the freaking minds.

  20. knucknbuc Says:

FR might be the college coach we got running the squad.

  21. FR Says:

I watch at other teams and they look like men that know what they are doing, I love the Bucs. Yes I understand its preseason but dang Glennon doesn’t look good enough to be anybody’s back up. Tampa have some pride 44 points gee wiz and here we go with the field goles again. Freeman looks just like last years Freeman.

  22. Broy3434 Says:

The fact that someone said QB controversy after 7 throws by freeman is laughable. People need to relax. Didn’t even have his oline, freeman got hurt and Glennon had success against backups. The qbs that don’t make it in this league don’t have four week stretches where they’re the best QB in the NFL like freeman did. Also, everyone got on Doug Martin early in the year and a year later now nobody says anything when he gets a 1 yard carry the way they crtique every throw freeman makes. With the talent on the defense added to the #1 rush d freeman should have to be simply 2010 freeman. Don’t throw picks and scramble for first downs when you have nothing and this team wins the division in more. 1 preseason game means nothing

  23. Biff Barker Says:

Maybe our biggest takeaway should be that the rookie QB looked composed in his first appearance.
To try and compare him to someone who had started 56 NFL games is just ludicrous at this point.
    That’s about it.
