Bowers Gets A Lunch Pail From Schiano

August 9th, 2013

The Bucs have a lot riding on Da’Quan Bowers this season. Defensive end depth isn’t the Bucs’ strength, and Greg Schiano has clearly stated he needs Bowers to become an every-down, relentless beast.

And to drive Bowers to new heights, Schiano has seemingly lost all concern about Bowers getting injured. In last night’s preseason beating at the hands of the Ravens, Bowers played the entire first half, a chunk of it through a driving rain storm, and Bowers played a new position for a while, replacing Gerald McCoy at the 3-technique tackle.

“This is my first transition to the inside. I haven’t quite got the grasp of yet. I’ve definitely have to get some 1-on-1 work with Gerald at it. We’ll see how it goes,” Bowers told Joe. “I didn’t know [how much I’d play tonight.] But you know it’s a work day. So I came ready to work, whether I was going to play 10 snaps or play 40 snaps. I just came in with the mindset to work and get better.

“I needed it. I was definitely happy that I got the extra work. I wasn’t happy with the performance overall.”

Bowers recorded one tackle and one assist. And Joe’s going to say he also had a reception — a message from Schiano that he needs to grind through and transition into a tough guy who can play every snap.

I didn’t know he was moved to the three tech spot. Does anybody know how far into the game this happened? As soon as McCoy was pulled? I was really disappointed that Bowers didn’t stand out tonight but if he was playing a new position then I am not nearly as concerned.

Some poster in the game thread said that Bowers was the new Blount. He might have a point there! It’s no fun in Schiano’s doghouse!

he did not look good running against all the 2’s and 3’s of the Ravens, I really hope that they just have the deepest O-line in the NFL

    So DQB spells LGB now?
Unsure as to what Bowers issue is, but Schiano has been rather determined to correct it.
Hope he is not being resistant to coaching like Blount.

DQB. Has to step it up, but the BUCS had an opportunity to bring in some savvy vets like Jon Abraham and Diwight Freeny to help the D. Lineman learn, McCoy just said he had to learn it on his own, we are having the same problem with our pass rushers

Frankly, he was unimpressive. He should have been able to do more against backups.

Take it easy people, he was trying to learn a new position, and I seen him get pretty good penetration, I’m not gonna panic like some of you people, he’s gonna be fine-CHILL!

Bowers and LGB. Not a good comparison. First of all, LGB actually had some success with us. Bowers hasn’t done Jack yet. Secondly, everything Bowers says is what you want to hear. Far different from the unpredictable LGB. Bowers acknowledged he wasn’t enamored with his performance. That was a fair statement. He needed the extra work. I don’t know that he is in Schiano’s doghouse. It is clear that Schiano Paisano is preparing Bowers for hard work and building his stamina. Bowers wasnt the only disappointment on the DL. I saw virtually no pressure from the front four unless we blitzed leaving our secondary vulnerable. It was preseason game 1 and similar to Joe I am not reading much into this. However, this DL is a major concern to me. Without vast improvement from them, we could be staring at a similar outcome as last year.
