Carl Nicks No. 12

July 9th, 2013

The countdown of BSPN’s top 25 players in the NFC South continued over the weekend (how many had trouble shaking off the cobwebs yesterday?) when the latest Bucs player was revealed by NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas. That would be guard Carl Nicks at No. 12.

What he did in 2012: After being signed away from the New Orleans Saints as a free agent, Nicks appeared in seven games before going out for the rest of the season with a toe injury.

Why he’s No. 12 in 2013: Back in his New Orleans days, Nicks was viewed by many as the best guard in the league. Assuming he’s at full health, there’s no reason Nicks can’t get back to dominant form. The Bucs’ plan of teaming him and Davin Joseph as the starting guards went awry when Joseph suffered a season-ending injury in the preseason. But Joseph also is expected to be back at full strength. That could give Tampa Bay the best guard tandem in the NFL and running back Doug Martin could end up being even more productive than he was in a stellar rookie year.

Joe absolutely agrees with every letter Yasinskas typed here.

Joe just drools thinking about the possibility of Doug Martin running behind a road grader like Nicks for a full season, especially now that Martin has a full season of NFL experience under his belt.

And a strong running game usually means a strong team. We will find out soon. Hey, look! The NFL regular season is less than two months away.

    Hopefully Carimi and Dotson can figure out the right side of the line b/c if they do… Very excited about our Oline this year!

    Hopefully, Big Nicks can stay out of the tub this year. We are really going to need him, for the team to drag Jfro-6pak to the playoffs.

    rated a bit high for a guy who only played 7 games. what is this a popularity contest?

    what has he done for us lately?

  5. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    How many Buc players does that make?

  6. Buc'n Junkie Says:

    I think realist and robert are the same people

  7. robert Says:

    not the same people. I don’t even know the guy.

    but @ least he is KIR!!!

    6 pack LOL

  8. Piratic Says:

    @Buc’n Junkie: Nah, they’re not the same people, they just both have the same adolescent mindset. They constantly whine, and say the most immature things, just like little kids. Either they ARE kids, or they are simply ignorant and unhappy. Either way, their posts are among the worst things here at JBF.

    You guys are an embarrassment.

    @Joe

    Im no doctor so no clue how severe Nick’s toe injury is/was, but we’ve heard very little about him this off season. Any word on how he’s coming along?

  13. PRBucFan Says:

    @Robert

    What did he do for us?

    I would say while he did play for us and even whilst he was playing with that swollen toe he was pretty damn dominant. Let’s not get down on the guy because of something he could not control.

  14. J Says:

    I don’t troll other team’s message boards, but we must have the biggest collection of pessimistic assholes in the NFL. Lighten up FFS

  15. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Let’s not forget Penn. He is dominant as well. The other side is the only place where there might be concerns…and if it turns out to be a weakness there we might become a little predictable running the ball.

    But I’m hoping for the best. And praying against injuries.

    I think everyone in the media feels Josh is worse under pressure. He was last year. But if you look at the reasons why he was under pressure…it was the offensive line because it was missing two starters.

    Not the only reason, but it played a role.

    Piratic: I too am convinced that Robert, Realist are either still in junior high or fictitious characters created by Joe to keep things stirred up. Heck, if some Hawaiian dude can convince a Golden Domer he’s a cute girl, anyone can portray a couple of simpletons.
