Your Darrelle Revis Non-Update/Update

March 13th, 2013

Joe knows there were Bucs fans up past 1 a.m. pining for news that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik pulled off a trade for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis.

(If Revis comes to Tampa Bay, he will no longer be known as “Revis Island,” but instead, “Mons Revis.”)

This morning, NFL Network is running intelligent programming, doing a non-stop free agency marathon. Located at Floral Park, home of the Jets, Kimberly Jones reporting live, had no updates on the status of Revis. She did say “definitely” the Bucs “were in discussions” with the Jets yesterday, but nothing has come of those discussions, at least not yet, and everything is, in her words, in “a holding pattern.”

Last last night, the creator, curator and overall guru of ProFootballTalk.com, the great Mike Florio, noted that Revis and/or his agent have not been contacted. Joe would have to guess Dominik won’t pull a trigger on a trade unless a new contract was worked out. Nor should he.

So there you have your Revis non-update/update as of 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Obviously, if there is anything newsworthy, Joe will post it.

UPDATE: NFL Network reported Jets general manager John Idzik isn’t in his office today. He’s in Tuscaloosa attending Alabama’s Pro Day.

There is one thing that is a major plus in the Revis discussion – The Bucs are relevant, they are in the news, they’re being talked about as major players and that’s good. It helps to be publicized as the team pursuing Revis when you are talking to other DBs in FA about coming to the Bucs. When you’re in the Revis discussion, you’re wearing big boy pants!

That guys radio show from the article above is DEPRESSING!

completely off topic, but am I the only one that thinks signing DHB to a 2yr/$5 mil contract would be a good move? He’d bring speed that otherwise doesn’t exist in this WR corps, and wouldn’t be expected to be “the guy” at best he’d be the 3rd option, more likely the 4th or 5th. And if his speed can be utilized in the return game, that would be a plus as well.

  14. flmike Says:

Bernard Pollard just became available, solid hard hitting Safety and cheap, base salary with the Ravens was only $2mil.

  15. T in Orlando Says:

Pollard was a strong safety to Reed’s Free safety, I don’t believe the Bucs would pursue him.

The bucs are spending way too much time worrying about a free agent who might not pan out in our system. We’re losing out on great additions being desperate trying to fill one hole. Dom needs checkbook swagg today. I’m more excited about goldson who actually played in a Super Bowl last season then to worry about a revis who watched after week 4 or 5….

How? What defensive backs have signed with teams thus far?

  18. ElioT Says:

No, don’t, stop!!!! I need my daily fix of gambling nonsense, horse racing garbage, boring golf talk, and a general lack of interesting content, not to mention berating of every other caller that might have something intelligent to say.

    Go Bucs!!!

  19. Adk1j2 Says:

Revis and/or his agent HAVE been contacted?? Last I heard they were not.

  20. Joe Says:

    Adk:

Nope. Revis nor his agents have been contact. You are correct.

  21. flmike Says:

Yes, but I thought they want to move Barron to FS, so if we cannot sign Goldson, Pollard makes some sense.

  22. J 2.0 Says:

LET’S GET DUMERVIL ALONG WITH GOLDSON!

  23. the_buc_realist Says:

    fan pole

would you rather here Tom Krasniqi at 3pm or here the bucs traded for revis with just there 1st round draft pick???

  24. J 2.0 Says:

    Bobby Fenton.
