Sapp Guarantees Goldson Will Be A Buccaneer

March 12th, 2013

Bucs Hall of Fame icon Warren Sapp didn’t hold back on NFL Network moments ago. No. 99 said, “I guarantee it” when asked whether free agent safety Dashon Goldson will become a Buccaneer.

Sapp said with Team Glazer firing up a fancy jet to pick up Goldson, there’s no chance the Pro Bowl 49ers safety leaves Tampa without a contract.

Joe has to agree. Obviously, Goldson will get the full court press and top dollar. Joe hopes Goldson, a lifetime west coast guy, really wants to be in Tampa and isn’t just chasing dollars. Obviously, he’s a professional, but that personal stuff makes a difference.

Goldson, Barron works better positionally than Barber, Barron does. Loyalty to the HOFer aside.

  2. OKC_RMC Says:

Oh man…you know how Sapp’s gaurantees end up. Smh

    Go Bucs!

  5. CT Bucs Says:

Good point joe about the west coast.

  6. Andrew 1 Says:

the way we want to play defense is becoming clear. tough, physical, hit you in the mouth and smile about it approach that should be fun to watch. this looks to become a VERY AGGRESSIVE defense when its all said and done. gotta love it.

  7. SilenceTheCritics Says:

    Damnit Sapp dont jinx us!

  8. Andrew 1 Says:

nothin i love more than a tough defense with a bad attitude that plays pissed off all the time.

  9. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Silence

haha. I know right. I already got my hopes up.

  10. FlBoy84 Says:

Why is it that the word “guarantees” always looks mispelled.

Where does this officially leave Ronde? …free agent?

  12. Rob Says:

Ronde can play Nickel, start opposite Revis for a year, or gently be asked to retire.

  13. BOb Says:

bucs looking into ryan mallett?????? hhhmmmmm

  14. Tampa2 Says:

Start opposite Revis? Cmon man, there’s a reason why Ronde was asked to move to Safety. They were also looking to upgrade at FS even if Ronde came back. Love Ronde, but all good things come to an end. It’s over.

  15. tidalguy Says:

If he”s the stud they say he is then I’m all for it.

  16. Illuminati Says:

    @FlBoy84

I don’t know, but I guarantee you misspelled “misspelled”.

  17. Capt. Tim Says:

Extremely excited about the possibility of Goldson! Best defensive free agent, IMO!
Why does signing him, mean goodbye to Ronde? We keep 4 safeties, and 6 CBs. Barber can play all 5 positions. And still play them well. Better than Gaitor. Better than Black. Better than Lewis.

We sign Goldson. Trade for Revis. Sign Sean Smith( man!! That’s exciting!!) .
3 new starters. None know our system. Who is our coach on the field? Ronde.

I doubt he would resist having less snaps at his age, and he is still a great Slot CB. If he wants to retire- he leaves. But you can’t have to many good DBs. And Ronde is by far the Best DB currently hanging his cleats in OneBucPlace.

  18. Dave Says:

    I agree CAP TIM.

Signing him does not mean Barber goes… BUT that all depends on if Barber wants to be part time or not.
Guess that is what Barber has been mulling over.

  19. 2002 seems so far away Says:

Yep! Sign me up, As bad as our secondary was last year i’ll be happy with anyone we sign. I really like the idea of trading for Revis, because we all know Bucs are horrible at drafting CB’s right now

  20. Macabee Says:

I don’t know how the Bucs go about using the 3 day pre-FA period to talk to agents. It seems like other teams already had their deals done and it’s just a formality of having the player come in to sign the deal once FA starts. It’s apparent from the rapid rate that these deals are being announced.

The Bucs appear to be working on the Goldson deal as we speak. It always worries me since the Lofton deal went south when the Bucs are in talks. I assume that everything with Goldson is coming along fine. It just has an air of suspense that waiting to hear always brings with it! I guess it’s just the Buccaneer Way!

Would be a definate upgrade, and as previously mentioned, a much better pairing for Barron. We still need 2 or 3 quality corners. Schiano should just work Mr. Adderall so hard he’s hurt an on the IR. He DOES NOT deserve a spot on our 53. I got no faith in L. Johnson or A. Gaitor. Biggers is the only corner I would honestly keep. Schiano will have him turning his head and watching the ball, not just holding people, and he could be a sub/nickel guy. Myron Lewis IMO is a possible 4th corner for spread offenses, but on exterior. He needs the sideline. Can NOT play a bigger reciever or physical TE in the slot. We have an amazing front 7 with GMC, Roy Miller, Lavonte, and you have to throw Te’O’Nesheim in there. He is gonna be our starter day 1 opposite of Claiborn. Wish we were built to stop teams from scoring 35 points through the air, but with Goldson playing a true FS role and Barron gettin low and putting hits on people like RG3 last year, we could rush the passer better with Barron in the box and have a good safety deep ready to bail out one of our corners. Just my opinions. GO BUCS!! -a Hoosier Buc fan

Capt. Tim, I agree with you 100%.

  23. stevek Says:

    Preach on Cap’n.

    Revis, Smith, Goldson…

draft BPA and put a whooping on some teams. I am lookng forward to having some heavy hitters at the top of the defense.

  24. Mcruzer Says:

Am I the only one watching tv and just heard Warren Sapp cussing about Bill Belicheck? They wre broadcasting live and switched over to another interview and they forgot to switch off Sapp’s mic.

    I CALLED IT!

    AGAIN!

He is a FS who hits like a SS. When I first saw that he was not getting tagged by San Fran, I said, WE NEED DASHON.

He is a crazy. He plays fired up. He is exactly what we need.

I called it even this morning.

And I have also been saying. Ronde will be a dope slot/nickle back.

He will see the field maybe at 40% of the time. Especially against pass-happy teams.

And he’s a better backup FS/CB than our other youngsters.

    I LOVE THIS SIGNING.

    It’s GENIUS!

Trade for Revis, resign him at 11 million a year with lots of upfront money. He will be happy.

    Sign Grimes if we can.

    Ronde at nickle.

Boom. We are instant playoff contenders.

Enjoy some highlights of DASHON GOLDSON

I caught the f bombs to. And the giggling afterwards. lol Didn’t sound like Sapp to me though.

  29. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Macabee

I agree with you. I get the feeling the bucs did not do there due diligence in that respect. why does it always see like we are at a disadvantage in terms of all things related to contracts and compensation? its just seems like we are always overpaying on players by a huge margin or overcompensating for players in terms of draft picks. I like Dominick but I get the impression that he is not a very good negotiator. just my opinion of course but I would like to know if anyone else feels the same way.

  30. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    Revis? Would rather not.

  31. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

    @teacherman77

ive looked all over the web and cant find anything sayin the Bucs signed Goldson? where did you hear that from, i hope its true. BUC IT IM OUT!!!!!

  32. ElioT Says:

I think Dom is an even better negotiator than GM. You don’t trade up for Martin and David if you’re not a good negotiator and you can’t trade Talib (for half a season) to the Pats for a 4th round pick either if you struggle in that arena.

He got crushed with the Eric Wright signing but last year’s FA pool was shallow with CBs and we were desperate for help.

My bet is Dom and the Bucs clean up in FA and the draft this year and add at least five quality starters.

    Go Bucs!

  33. gotbbucs Says:

He’s not really a ball hawk but he will take your head off if he gets a clean shot, just ask Mike Williams. He’s kind of got that Sean Taylor effect on WR’s, they get alligator arms when they hear the footsteps.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Andrew 1

Traded Gaines Adams for a 2nd round pick.
Traded around in the draft and aquired Doug Martin and Lavonte David with the same 4th round pick.
Got a 4th round pick out of Aqib Talib.

  35. FreemanBomb5 Says:

Used a second round pick with guys like Shady McCoy and Ray Rice on Kellen Winslow whom he then made the highest paid tight end in league history coming off of a knee surgery…

Traded up in draft to select Rejus Benn over Gronk

Traded a future forth round pick to move up a few spots to select Luke Stocker…

Derek Ward 4 year 17 million, Michael Clayton 5 year 29 million, Quincy Black 5 year 30 million. We also have the highest paid special teams unit in the league with koenen and Barth both making more money then some high draft picks on rookie contracts.

  36. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ gotbucs

the guy directly below you, was what I was refereeing to, mainly his last paragraph. but thank you for pointing out some of the savvy moves that he has made… makes me feel a little better and a little more confident in Dom.

  37. FunkYxMunkeY Says:

I hope this deal goes down. We will have the best Safety duo in the league. Avoid this Revis crap and get Sean Smith and Derek Cox along with a 2nd round CB and call it a wrap!! Go Bucs

when u dont draft well u have to sign free agents in mass
