Bye-Bye Roy Miller

March 15th, 2013

The man Greg Schiano called the “custom-built” nose tackle for his defensive line is now playing for Jacksonville. Roy Miller has inked a two-year deal with the Jaguars, per Woody Cummings of TBO.com.

This was Schiano’s assessment of Miller in Week 17.

“He is a heck of a run stopper and plays the position, you know we call the tilt nose in our defense, he plays it very well. And he’s really custom-built to play it,” Schiano said yesterday. “I mean his traits really fit the position.”

What the hell are the Bucs are doing allowing key, young cogs in their defensive line walk away for miniscule cash?

The Miller move further fuels Joe’s take that Greg Schiano is driving the bus on some maneuvers.

Miller is replaceable, and he didn’t play most passing downs, but the guy was at least a solid defensive tackle last season. And, much like Michael Bennett, Miller was successful in Schiano’s system and had no off-field baggage. His loss is puzzling.

One must now put defensive tackle on the list of positions the Bucs could attack early on draft day.

  1. bucrightoff Says:

Clearly the market was not good to Miller if he’s settling on playing in Jacksonville. Not sure that’s anyone’s first choice.

  2. Snook Says:

Considering his quote from Week 17 and the fact he just let Miller leave, would this say that Schiano ISN’T driving the bus?

  3. passthebuc Says:

If nothing else, this is how you send a message.

  4. Andrew 1 Says:

    @ Joe

what happened Joe? I thought you said that the bucs loved Millers, you even went so far as to say they where “enamored” with him. obviously they didnt love him enough to resign him. looks like you swung and missed on that one.

  5. BullDog Says:

Since they can’t improve the secondary why not bring the number one run defense down a bit to match. Makes sense. Sign Beavis and Grimes so they can have 2 good pins between them.

  6. Snook Says:

Based on how the Bucs have let people go this off-season, we can be pretty sure they’re going to let Freeman walk next year.

    Thank God.

  7. JerseyBucsfan Says:

I hope the bucs know what there doing. A player I was hoping they would sign would be Cox, I liked his upside as long as he was heathy and I saw the trade for revis coming along. Just hope waiting on the revis deal isn’t hurting us

  8. Robbie_G Says:

My head hurts, all I see.. Buccaneers LEAVING. I don’t know what the plan is, but it better be a damn good one. SO now we need a DT, DE, Corners galore, O line help and a TE. But hey we have the BEST saftey duo in the NFL right?

  9. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

DT has been on my list. Want better pass rush? Put another pass rusher next to GMC.

  10. Snook Says:

Have the Bucs re-signed any of their own free agents?

    What a joke.

  11. Fear The Glow Says:

Now im getting pissed. Are we going to start a defense full of rookies again? How’d that work out last time?

  12. Mr. Patrick Says:

The Bucs are working their plan and re-shaping their team. Have faith fellow Buc fans. Just see what unfolds.

  13. Snook Says:

I love all the people saying that it doesn’t matter that Bennett and Miller left…

Except there’s NO ONE out there to replace the bodies.

And you know Dom will swing and miss in the draft after round 2… like always.

  14. Canadianbuc Says:

Cason gone cards pick him up………..

  15. Snook Says:

    Reshaping the team?

With who? 4th and 5th round draft picks?

  16. Sneedy16 Says:

    @Snook

I don’t think Lavonte David is a miss.

  17. Snook Says:

What’s gonna happen when Duminik trades our 1st round pick for a guy who always holds out every off-season?

  18. kh Says:

Snook – yea there are no more free agents out there, every single one has been signed. OMG OUR SEASON IS OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Or not

  19. Patrick Says:

LET’S JUST let go of our whole D-line while we’re at it!

  20. Rrsrq Says:

So the entire left side of the #1 run stopping defense is gone. Black, Miller and Bennett. Remember the same defense that was #1 was last or almost last a year ago. Nots sure what this team is doing

  21. Patrick Says:

More rookies on our line next year….yippie. Say hello to another defense ranked at the bottom. Yes, let’s just use another premium pick on a D-lineman for the 10 millionth time. Bowers hasn’t contributed much, McCoy didn’t get past his injuries until his 3rd season, Price is gone. The only one he drafted that made an immediate impact was Clayborn. The d-line investments haven’t payed off so why should we trust him with more?

  22. CC Says:

    Oh no. We suck again.

  23. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Elvis just released after missing the deadline to fax signed contracts.
There is your replacement for Bennett.

  24. BigMacAttack Says:

Never quit a job until you have a better one. I wouldn’t get rid of decent guy until I signed a better one. I understand letting Bennett and Miller walk but now there are holes and that doesn’t make sense YET.

Hey Dom, the natives are getting restless.
    WTF???

  25. Patrick Says:

@kh ……did you happen to notice that just about everyone on that list has either re-signed with their current teams or signed with others already? Our only DE’s left are Dumervil and a washed up Osi Umenyiora.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

Are they trying to get the Cap number down to $60mm????

  27. TPCMatt Says:

    Sign Dumervil! Right meow!

  28. jvato24 Says:

Seriously this is looking like amatuer hour. What will Revis take up so much cap space that we will have to use Demar Dotson as DT depth?? wtf

  29. @MikeInTampa2 Says:

Schiano is dumping the Rock Stars players and marking his territory inside of One Buc Place

  30. kh Says:

yes the list is thinning but there are a number of replacement players for Roy Miller at DT still – Alan Branch for one, Kemoeatu another, Sedrick Ellis too. Lets remember that before last year every negative nancy thought Roy Miller wasn’t worth a damn.

At DE – we’re looking for a 3rd/rotational DE and there’s options still there too, Osi, Elvis, Freeney and Abraham.

  31. Machiavellii Says:

Here is a nice article on a possibility why there might be a hold up on making the Darrel Revis trade and why the bucs are reluctant to offer more. I thought it was a good read…

    http://www.bucsnation.com/2013/3/15/4103976/the-revis-economy-why-tampa-should-hold-firm-on-their-offer

  32. NJBucsFan Says:

Roto is reporting Grimes is visiting Miami… This lack of CB movement concerns me

  33. 911bucs Says:

There has to be a rhyme and reason for all of these released players from the bucs. Rotoworld shows there is still quite a few quality players at each position available.

  34. Patrick Says:

What the hell is Dominick doing? Miller and Bennett helped us to the #1 rush defense in the league last year. They did their job! Bennett is the only reason we had ANY pass rush at all! Now our rush defense is gonna match our pass defense…..yes good job Dom!

Not only that, we have ZERO depth now. Bowers hasn’t proven anything, and will likely face trouble with the law. Clayborn just had a bad knee injury. HELLO? And no……I don’t want to hear the draft will fix. You want Dom to select another D lineman in the 1st round again? You want another rookie on our line?

Aside from that, we have the NFL’s worst secondary and he hasn’t addressed that either. Even if we get Revis, we still need additional cornerbacks.

  35. BucfaninMi Says:

major players in free agency? for the opponents maybe! last place again!!

  36. Pruritis Ani Says:

Very puzzling moves. Any free agent prospects out there to replace him? Hard to see the logic in cutting a solid performer without a replacement.

  37. MTM Says:

Where are the Rock star defenders now? I bet some how the Bucs finish way under the cap again. By no fault of their own of course.

  38. Walter Says:

If they get Lotuleilei in the first, trade our second and next years first for Revis, and go CB in the 3rd round, I think our D will be good.

  39. Cmurda Says:

What is going on? I keep hearing about some plan. Is there really a plan? When will it reveal itself? We have let proven players in our own system walk for bird feed and we all know the cream of the free agent crop gets signed within days of the opening bell. Most of these guys are now gone. So, the plan is to start like 10 rookies next year? Not a good plan. I hope to heck that we get Revis otherwise, Im seeing another “rebuilding decade”.

  40. Patrick Says:

This team will never reach the playoffs under Dom! This better be his last year!

  41. Robbie_G Says:

WTF is going on here….now Grimes is going to visit Miami?? Ok , stick to the plan my @$$. Looks like the family wants it on the cheap again. They have let good, solid players, who would help this team, just walk away. Even IF they get Revis, they have even MORE holes to fill. This is frustrating.

  42. Brad Says:

This better be one helluva draft. Everyone is going to have to be a starting. Wow I have to believe if Goldson saw this he’d take a pay cut and stay in San Fran

  43. tampabaybucfan Says:

Relax….It’s not like we are getting jilted by players….we are deliberately letting them go….be patient….there is a method to the madness. Dom isn’t an idiot. We didn’t want these players…..period!

  44. Andrew 1 Says:

Com’on guys Schiano’s a control freak! you dont think he has every scenario mapped out to perfection? I mean this is a guy who wouldnt let you eat certain foods because he thought it might lessen our chances of win. my point is he has a plan, and we are watching unfold. it may not be to our liking, but can we really argue that we know more about how to run a team over an NFL head coach. he will do whats best for the team, period.

  45. Capt. Tim Says:

Oh, and we just won” worst move of the week” on NBCSports. Said worst play was Bucs greatly overpaying Goldson.

I don’t know who is making the decisions at OneBuc,
But they seem as lost as some small school coach, over his head in the big leagues!!!!

    Oh, wait . . .lol

  46. BigMacAttack Says:

Revis will be a Buc tomorrow and at least one DL shortly thereafter. Oh wait, I must have been dreaming again.

    In Dom We Trust. Lol

  47. dux0606 Says:

Joe, im hearing ronde to dallass!! Please confirm or deny. It is in talks right now.

  48. CC Says:

The Bucs now are in worse shape than when the season ended. WTF Dom!

  49. bucrightoff Says:

Ronde to Dallas? Haha yeah right. If Ronde leaves its gonna be to New England, or Green Bay, or Seattle, a team with a real Super Bowl chance. I know, I know, Monte. Let me say a more important (and scary) name: Jerry.

  50. killian Says:

Revis, Dumervil and Lotulelei…That is all I ask for. Then obtain TE and CB by any means possible.

  51. Cmurda Says:

dux…Deny. Hell no. Ronde will finish career as a Buc.

  52. Matt Says:

Everyone needs to calm down. The bucs will be in better shape when the season starts. The jets have no one else to play with. We will get revis. We will draft another corner (most likely xavier rhodes) in the first rd. Dom will not trade this years 1st rd pick. Secondary solved.. We are set at d-line with clayborne, bowers, and mccoy. We just need depth. Not 5-10 million dollar player depth. We have to look at the future. If we do get revis that is going to eat up a lot of cap space. If we do resign freeman (which we will) and mike williams (which we will) we have to save some money.

  53. dux0606 Says:

    I hope it ain’t so

  54. Cmurda Says:

Me too. You’re freaking me out. That would be the finishing touch on my stomachache right now.

  55. Paul Says:

Maybe he misread the memo that we have the 13th pick, and not 13 picks in the draft?

  56. Raphael Says:

All the haters here are hilarious ! it is March 15th !

I like what they are doing. We can do ALOT ! Better than miller and Bennett…That would have been the old way and we are not gonna settle for status quo !

  57. Cmurda Says:

I haven’t heard anything about Ronde. Im not buying that one but Im hearing a lot of chatter about Bucs trade for Revis getting close. Right now all it is is chatter.

  58. Paul Says:

I now believe the reports by Buc’s haters like Michael Silver and Mike Florio that the players hate playing for Schiano.

  59. Macabee Says:

If this trend continues, E.J. Biggers is probably holed up in a witness protection program somewhere. It not safe out there!

  60. Matt Says:

    @cmurda

if it happens it will most likely happen tonight..revis is due a 1 mil roster bonus saturday. which a million dollars isnt a whole lot to owners i would think if they have no other players in a trade why waste a million dollars?

  61. Matt Says:

    from twitter…pewter report writer

    Mark Cook ‏@MarkCook1970
Revis deal very close. Hang in there Bucs fans. Spoke to someone this evening who said, the smoke is so thick it’s burning my eyes.

  62. TrueBlue Says:

I’m more encouraged than ever. The more ignorant fans whine and complain the better I like it. It’s like this. The majority is almost always wrong. If this truism holds in this case, the Bucs should have a very good year.

2010: Everyone ‘knew’ the Bucs would be terrible. Went 10 – 6 and missed playoffs by a tie-breaker and a lousy ref call.

2011: After a good year everyone predicted the Bucs would be even better. Record 4 – 12 and a 10 game losing streak.

2012: The Bucs are awful. Many predictions said 3 – 13. Actual record 7 – 9 and and went from the worst run defense to the best.

The majority is most always wrong. So here’s to more crying and predictions of doom. Keep up the good work fans. It’s going to be a very good year.

  63. Dan Says:

Bucs may go 3-13 next year, and I’m sure once again Raymond James will be packed to the rafters and sold out every game, bhahahahahahaa

  64. Paul Says:

TrueBlue, that’s a crappy argument rofl.

  65. Paul Says:

I like how all of the Sheep Fans come up with crap-ass arguments with no facts or reason attached. Just blind faith.

  66. Cmurda Says:

@Paul. Theres nothing to suggest the players dont like playing for Schiano. In fact, Bennett publicly stated that he wanted to come back with the Bucs and then publicly stated after signing with the Hawks for an average salary that the Bucs “acted like they didn’t want me”. That doesn’t sound like a player that didn’t want to play for Schiano.

  67. Timmytee Says:

What the hell is going on? We had no depth…we build depth and let it walk out the door for nothing. Who is going to play defense? We have no dlinemen….literally, bowers is always hurt…clayborn is coming off major injury, McCoy only has played one season in 3 years and we don’t have a corner on the team who should even be in the nfl except wright who may be getting cut. We can’t fix this with the draft. What are we going to throw out fifth rounders and UFA again to start. We better hope we have revis, and if we do he is healthy. I’m not even one to complain about free agents ever…but seriously we should have kept miller and Bennett f possible for depth and signed at least a mid teir CB we do have to play Bree’s twice and the falcons. We must be going for that defensive pass record. If this team doesn’t win more than 7 games Dom needs to go and we need to bring in a legit GM. I’m hopefully we have some plan still.

  68. Bb Says:

We had best run D because, we had such a bad secondary , why run when you just throw for10 yards at a time , both these guys suck we Need better and will get it, lots will happen before September

  69. Paul Says:

I’m referencing articles from Mike Florio and Mike Silver. Just sayin that it’s looking to be true, meaning that I initally didn’t believe them.

  70. bucnjim Says:

Give it a rest guys! Schiano & Dominick are looking to upgrade a team that desperately needs it. Just like Ruud; these players will go on to do absolutely nothing! Half the players we had as starters from 2011-12 not only wouldn’t start, but wouldn’t make another teams roster. All you have to do is look at the list of cuts the Bucs have made in the past. Any Super stars? Nope! Any good players? Not that I can remember. Let them get rid of previous mistakes and get some great players not second stringers pretending to be starters.

  71. lurker Says:

hey paul…fact is you have no influence on the bucs’ decisions! just because you like to b*tch and moan doesn’t make you a “fan”.

  72. Paul Says:

I don’t think they even made an effort to re-sign them.

  73. Paul Says:

@lurker, a lot of people feel that way, you are the minority tbh.

  74. Paul Says:

    Better get back to lurking.

  75. Bobby Says:

Gee wiz Wally! Things would be so much better if the Bucs would just let all the head cases that post on here make the decisions. We’d be in the Super Bowl every year. Really…EVERY YEAR! The only people who post on here are either retired pro players or former GM’s or sometimes… like Patrick..BOTH! The genius is undeniable as I’m sure would be evident if we could go back to last year and read all the posts during FA and prior to the draft. If they would have just let this group make the decisions we’d have done so much better than Carl Nicks, VJax, Doug Martin, Mark Barron, & Lavonte David. All of the draft picks would be starters, all 7 and probably pro bowlers to boot. Stupid Glazers…don’t they realize that the answer to the Buc’s woes lies right here at JoeBucsFan.com?????

  76. SilenceTheCritics Says:

I sure wish I knew what the plan was. From the outside looking in, this looks awful even though I never expected Miller to come back. However, losing both Bennett and Miller is huge. DT is the one spot we needed depth most. We’ll see what happens with the rest of the season. So far though, even though we signed Goldson. I would have to say this Free Agency period is disappointing.

  77. Bobby Says:

    P.S. I’m tired….call yourselves idiots.

  78. lurker Says:

lol, who on here is a better talent evaluator then who the bucs have? who knows better than the brass what systems they will run and who fits. also, who knows what or if the bucs offered free agents?

  79. Andrew 1 Says:

fans have every right to have objective criticism’s, but if your bashing the bucs then your not a bucs fan. there’s a difference. I dont care what you say.

  80. 1976Buc Says:

Sounds like an internal issue here. More like these guys would rather play anywhere else but Tampa. Toes on the line?

  81. Snook Says:

Schiano is a blowhard like Gruden. And we should’ve fired Dominik with Raheem.

  82. ctord Says:

At this rate, the bucs could get Revis and Sherman but without a pass rush, which they did not have last year, they too will get torched. Not two years ago D line was worst in the league. Bucs turn it around and just let everyone fly. Agreed Miller is not a huge loss but still a solid player and losing Bennett is unacceptable. Success in the NFL has a lot to do with depth because injuries are always looming. Bucs are now losing any depth they had.

  83. Jose Says:

After observing how Dom is trying to collect draft picks, something tells me we already got a very good corner named Revis. Now Dom wants to make up some of the picks he gave up. Revis will get a million from the Jets if he is still on their roster on Saturday, I think the deal is aready done imo, thats why he traded Benn and is trying to trade Blunt. Now they just need to pick up one average good corner and draft the honey badger.

  84. BucFan20 Says:

So that means Bobby is a retired pro player or GM. Or . Both. After all. He is posting here!! You know, If you don’t like what we have to say nobody is twisting your arm to come here and read. And because you are among us I guess can call yourself an idiot. After all. We are tired. Tired of people like YOU!

  85. Cmurda Says:

The whole tune on this board will change once Mons Revis lands in Tampa.

  86. gotbbucs Says:

Lot of arguements pointing out that Bennett and Miller were part of the #1 rush defense in the NFL last year. How quickly we forget that they were starters on the league’s worst rush defense the year before.

  87. jpbuc Says:

We need a pass catching TE, starting RT, pass rushing DE, run stuffing DT, 2 starting CBs and a kick returner right? Am I missing anyone? Plus don’t we still have to spend about 20 mil to get to the cap number?

  88. bucnjim Says:

Easy to be the number one defense against the run when other teams didn’t need to run the ball. All of these players we’re arguing about are not even average players. They were what everyone would call serviceable. Nothing more nothing less. This team needs to get a way from average and strive for greatness.

  89. Patrick Says:

Hopefully next year Joe will be typing “Bye-Bye rockstar”

  90. gotbbucs Says:

Seriously, how bad have things gotten when fans are ready to slit wrists over Michael Bennett and Roy Miller? These are not premier players.
Lord help us if EJ Biggers signs somewhere over the weekend, there will be rioting in the streets.

  91. ElioT Says:

What is everybody so worried about?

Bowers, Clayborn, McCoy and Gibson will step up and play every snap better than ever and there is no chance anyone will get injured… Right?

Cue the Price is Right fail horns…

Was really thinking they would have shored up all the depth issues and the CB position in FA and leave the draft for nothing but the best players available.

Now the Bucs will draft for needs and we all know how great that works out.

    Come on Bucs!!!

  92. Raphael Says:

Lol….you guys are acting like a bunch of neurotic women !!!!!

  93. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Sign Dumervil, sign Dumervil. Pick up Elvis Dumervil. Hey Dom, sign Dumervil or be a Dumergm. Sign Dumervil to a contract. Did I mention that the Bucs should sign Dumervil? I just thought of a great idea… Why don’t the Bucs sign Elvis Dumervil?

  94. Raphael Says:

Dumervil. would not start or Clayborn or Bowers. ….

  95. gotbbucs Says:

They aren;t going to sign Dumervil. They are going full speed ahead with Clayborn and Bowers as starters. All they will be looking for as far as DE’s is a rotational guy, someone like Israel Idonije maybe.

  96. Raphael Says:

    * over*

  97. Patrick Says:

@gotbbucs………earth to gotbbucs, Bowers hasn’t proven anything yet, and you’re looking at a GUN charge! Clayborn just had a major knee injury. After that, we have ZERO depth…….you wonder why people are panicking?

  98. Raphael Says:

Lol@ Patrick. ….Clayborn and Bowers will be awesome …relax

  99. SilenceTheCritics Says:

If they stay healthy I agree they will be awesome… But thats a HUGE if.

  100. Patrick Says:

And how do you know Raphael? Are you Nostradamus or something? Clayborn and Bowers are big question marks right now, if you have a brain you should know that

  101. lurker Says:

    hey patrick,

are you nostradamus or something? how do you know they will get hurt or not be good?

i’m sorry that you thrive in negativity and misery. your outlook on things are dim.

  102. Ed Kerber Says:

Moneyball has arrived at the Bucs. Why spend 5 million to stay the same? Let Bennett walk, pick up some late round draft pick/ FA rookies to fill rotation. Save $$$$ for people who can really help (Revis/Vjackson, etc). Wright was a body paid $$$ because of need. Leornard Johnson has better Moneyball value. You only have 53 spots. From last year, we have openings of: a DE, DT, CB, RT (all let leave in Free Agency). We still have needs st RB (power runner/short yardage), TE (starter). KR/PR (and maybe Speed/Slot receiver, BACKUP QB who can start (these position were not filled last year). By my count, that’s 7 positions to fill with roughly $35 million to spend. If each spot averages 5 million, money is gone. So Dominic asks why spend 5 million to stay in neutral? You also want to have money to lock up Mike Williams, and other potential free agents. They key is keeping everyone’s cap hit manageable. Leave some room in this years cap to spend next year. Or Take money this year to pay Nicks/Joseph more this year to have less of a hit next year. As the prices are driven down, Needs can be filled with better players at better salaries. After the draft, there will be more Dallas Clark free-agents. That is when you Spackle over the holes in your roster. Don’t fill a hole in the roster too early with a Spackle-type player (that;s exactly what we did with Wright). Fill those spots with long-term rookies through draft and Free Agency (VJackson/Carl Nicks/Goldson, etc). This is the plan I see. Not worried.

  103. Patrick Says:

Lurker, I’m just saying we’re putting all our eggs into one basket. After Clayborn and Bowers, we have no insurance. We already have big enough needs at cornerbacks and now Dom just created more needs for us.

  104. Macabee Says:

If we rely solely on the draft, we will get several talented guys that will need a year to learn how to play NFL football. Here’s where I think Jon Gruden made a lot of sense. If you want to get to the playoffs, you’re going to need some experience. Gruden just took the concept a little too far at times.

Karlos Dansby 6-4, 250 played as good as any MLB in the league last year. He had 134 tackles with 101 solo in 2012 with 31.5 career sacks. He is 30, but won’t be 31 until November and can still play at a high level. I would bring in Dansby on a 1 year contract and move Foster to SLB.

Kerry Rhodes 6-3, 210 is another 30 year old that is a big FS that arguably had the best season of his career last year. Rhodes is an experienced version of Sean that can actually cover. He is a fierce tackler that had 67 tackles and 4 INTs and has played in a SB before. Rhodes is a Schiano type of player – I would offer Rhodes a 1 year contract also.

These guys were not released because they couldn’t play – they just got too expensive to keep. We have the checkbook to get talented experienced guys who know how to win and can bring our young players along with them!

  105. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Patrick

Based on previous posts I’m sure you’ll be beating the table for any big name that you recognize to come in and play. Only a matter of time before you start screaming for Osi, or Freeney, or Simeon Rice, or Bruce Smith, or any other big name from yesteryear.

All I did was state the obvious, not that I fully agree with it. Obviously we need depth and I’m not sure where that’s going to come from, but we’re an awful long ways away from the start of training camp. Relax, dude.

    LAWRENCE TAYLOR….SIGN LAWRENCE TAYLOR!!!!!!!

  106. Raphael Says:

@ Patricia …lol. Try and find something to be happy about today….

@ed Kerber. …..if you we’re to use paragraphs , how many would that be ????

  107. Macabee Says:

    *Sean Smith

  108. gotbbucs Says:

    @ Macabee

…and I’m sure signings like that will happen, they just don’t usually happen three or four days after free agency starts. People are really struggling to understand that. Good teams usually wait for the dust to settle a little bit and then go in and grab the bargains.

  109. ttaliesin Says:

Joe, if you havent figured out yet that the bucs are using their #1 on a DT then go back to footballschool.

  110. lurker Says:

we do not have access to what dom and schiano are planning. we don’t know if they have struck out at free agents or didn’t even try. it is still early. people are concerned, as am i, but overreacting, one way or the other, is not beneficial. but i understand people need to vent.

i do not follow all the players in the nfl and spout stats. just because joe(s) or some other media pundit mentions a name with stats does not mean that schiano/dominick feel they are a fit for our team/systems. (see above)

schiano came in and turned the team around. i am sure he has a system he wants to use but had to modify it to fit the players we already had. now he can add players that fit the system. maybe they didn’t feel the free agents fit for the money. (see ed kerber above)

all we can do is speculate. but everything is early yet. i just don’t see the need to constantly harp and complain as some are wont to do. in the end, hopefully, we all want the buccaneers to do well.

Paragraphs were deleted when I posted!

  112. Macabee Says:

    gotbbucs,

I agree! Atlanta just signed Steven Jackson (30) and the Pats just signed Adrian Wilson (33) – two playoff teams who are trying to win now. I just don’t want the Bucs to drag their feet. These guys are starters who can help right away! Somebody is going to get them soon!

  113. Ed Kerber Says:

(Repost with proper spacing. Joe can you delete old post?):

By my count, that’s 7/8 positions to fill with roughly $35 million to spend.

As the prices are driven down. Needs can be filled with better players at better salaries.

  114. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

Will someone take all 32 team’s CB depth charts and find which teams need starters? I am thinking the start spots are filling up by now. There can only be 64 1s and 2s… these free agentswould rather be a #2 than a #3. Tampa is looking really good for some of these potential #2s.

  115. Bucs Fan #238 Says:

In other words… once all the CB1 and CB2s are filled… the free agent CBs still would rather be a CB2 than sign on as a CB3.

So that could leave a bidding war among the CBs to angle for that starting CB role in Tampa.

This also puts pressure on Eric Wright to restructure or lose out on a starting job?

IF THIS IS THE STRATEGY, then I would say kudos. But I doubt that they thought about this.

  116. BucFan20 Says:

    @ Ed.
Don’t pay attention to Rachael. That’s just the type person she is. She and some others always feel the need to attack posters everyday.

  117. Raphael Says:

    Lmao. Somebody is butt hurt.

  118. Capt. Tim Says:

If you are trying to fill holes, or spackle a wall , Ed, that works.

But we are supposed to be trying to win Friggin Football games here!
You can’t do that, if you let good Starters and solid backup walk

If your wall needs that much spackle, you are better off tearing it down, and building a new one

  119. Raphael Says:

So the truth comes out with Mike Bennett….he never gave the Bucs a chance to match the offer ….because he is a whiny little biotch. Per PFT ….

Good riddance , I think Some of you clowns owe Dominik an apology …

So Dominiks busy and Bennett doesn’t get the attention he wants so he doesn’t give the Bucs a chance to match the offer….what a Moron Mike Bennett is !!!

  120. andres Says:

So a #1 run defense doesn’t mean squat in this league anymore and a decent rookie that can stop the run AND rush the passer on 3rd down will be an instant upgrade from Roy Miller. Calm your t#its!

  121. Raphael Says:

Bucs sign TE Tom Crabtree from GB

  122. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Lol nobody owes Dom an apology. Bennett had every right not to allow us a chance to match the offer if he felt disrespected. And Dom had every right not to offer him anything. Lol, fans are allowed to voice there opinion for who they support in the matter.

  123. Raphael Says:

Lol. So bashing Dom for not signing Bennett when Dom was told he would get a chance to match, when in fact he was not given a chance on purpose ……yeah okay , whatever dipstick …. Good riddance to Bennett , he is not a buccaneer man, he is a cry baby

  124. SilenceTheCritics Says:

So then what gives you the right to bash people? If you believe what you just said then you owe me and everyone else you bashed an apology or does that only work with people who agree with your crappy opinions?

  125. Raphael Says:

So how did I bash all these other people ….?

  126. Raphael Says:

Oh wait ,” clowns ” is bashing people …lol. Okay.

  127. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Lol how is you calling names any different from anyone else calling names? Are you really this stupid?

  128. TPCMatt Says:

Hey guys, we’re on the same team. Plus, I found the solution to our pass rush. Stylez G White has been seen in Tampa!

  129. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Lmao we may need stylez this coming season if anyone gets injured!

  130. Lev Says:

Hitler reacts to Bennet going to Seahawks lmfao:

  131. Coburn Says:

Yeah our run d was great, partially because everyone threw against us, but we did get most tfl. However when you are dead last in sacks two years ago and don’t improve that mark much this past year should we actually be surprised we aren’t holding onto a lot of our dline? When you consider McCoy is a pro bowler it makes it even worse. Perhaps we homers overrate our own guys?
