McCoy Among Voted Team Captains

September 7th, 2012

The ballots have been cast by Buccaneers players, and 2012 team captains have been named.

In no particular order, they’re Josh Freeman and Vincent Jackson, Ronde Barber, Gerald McCoy, Adam Hayward and Andrew Economos — two representatives from each of the three phases of the team.

Last year, Quincy Black was a captain, but apparently his peers now prefer McCoy. It’s a great indicator of how much McCoy means to the roster and the success of the Bucs.

I was just thinking, McCoy is not nasty enough, whats he gonna do cheer? then I realized……we don’t have many, if any nasty players. what about Clayborne?????

    ^Fans don’t get a vote…only the players. They’ve made their choice.

Does that mean Quincy Black being captain is a great indicator of how much he means to the roster and the success of the Bucs?

I think I would have liked Clayborne or hell even mark Barron better than McCoy. Until he gets an entire season healthy under his belt then I disagree but I didn’t get a vote.

It’s real easy for a fan to sit back and bash a player who’s been injured. Thankfully the players themselves understand you cant control that type of thing. This just shows that McCoy is well respected and highly thought of by his team.

  6. Big Picture Guy Says:

The defense sure as heck quit WITHOUT him, and were playing at an extremely high level WITH him. I think the choice was obvious.

How are you people going to sit here and say that a rookie should be elected a team captain when he hasnt had a single start in the NFL? Clayborne is a fair argument, but anyone with a clue knows that for better or for worse, this defense takes their cues and follows McCoy. Pray he stays healthy and has a big year.

I can hear Thomas 2.2 slamming his head against the wall due to the GMC selection. Miguel on the other hand, not sure what his reaction will be.

I honestly believe if McCoy stays healthy this team will be in the top 15 defense. If can do that he will have a pro bowl type season, but that’s just me.

  9. Garv Says:

THANKFULLY the players vote for their captains and NOT message board posters. Whew……

  10. Patrick Says:

Dear Gerald…please stay healthy this year!!

Went back last weekend and rewatched all of GMC games on my computer. When healthy he is a beast. I just focused on GMC and Micheal Bennett through out the games, he (mccoy) was in the opponents backfield as much as he was in his own. He has a nasty first punch. If he stays healthy, he is a pro bowler. He looked a little lost the beginning of his first year, but after the first couple of games he got better with each game. Micheal Bennett is a nightmare against the run. The defense should be solid if they both stays healthy. I also believe Lavonte David and Mark Barron were solid and consistent in preseason. Should be any interesting year

    Joe,

Just for fun, you should let Thomas comment on just this article. He’s probably at a mental institute after reading all these GMC articles.
