Bucs 16, Panthers 10

September 9th, 2012

The streak is over!!!

The heinous 10-game losing streak, the stain of the Raheem Morris era, is forever in the past.

The Bucs came out and slugged the Panthers in the mouth. That Rutgers defense looks pretty damn stout in the NFL. The Bucs’ run defense was historic — only SIX yards rushing allowed —  a pass rush emerged, and the Bucs registered two interceptions. Mark Barron looked like the real deal. The Bucs swarmed to the football.

Josh Freeman made no mistakes and did just enough. Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin were there when the Bucs needed them most. The Bucs protected the football, and the special teams were tight. There were a few questionable playcalls on offense, but nobody cares when you get the victory.

A win feels damn good.

Stick with Joe through the night for all kinds of analysis, locker room quotes and more.

    Huzzah! And Blount did squat.

Man it’s good to see us winning again. I’ll even go to the next game….l

  5. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

And the thing to remember is that each unit will improve as the season goes on. We saw what the offense will become in the first half, we saw the defense all game. Offense still came through with key first downs at the end.

    Fire The Cannons!!!!

Welcome to the new schiano order!!!

  7. Fear The Glow Says:

Someone send Raheem a tape of the game. Subject: How to stop the run in the NFL.

They gave up not 260 yards not 160 yards they gave up 6 yards rushing. Unbelievable.

Nice game after the aweful Raheem Morris debacle.

It was the coaching all along.

  14. BROCKTACULAR Says:

    any word on Blount?

  15. Que589 Says:

Good week 1 victory. Joe we need to start banging the table for Underwood, we have no one that can stretch the field. We need that deminsion added to our offense. Come on Joe let’s bang the table!

  16. The Dutcher Journal (Pete Dutcher) Says:

I’ll be happy if we win any of the next 3 games. After that is the bi and an easier schedule.

  17. SensibleBuc Says:

Man we hadn’t won since October of last year. Feels good man. Real good.

  18. Papawill13 Says:

GO BUCS!!!! Glad I was soooo wrong about Martin…

  19. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Freeman still needs to pick it up and start playing like a man.

  20. Russ Says:

This team came out prepared and about as well-coached on the fundamentals as I can remember seeing a Bucs team. Joe, I agree, some of the 3rd/early 4th qtr play-calling was questionable, but when was the last time you remember seeing our offensive line give our RB enough of a push to eat 4yd chunks on nearly every carry? It has been a while. Tough yards. Power football. Freeman needs to step-up into the pocket a bit more. When he does, he finds the lanes. When he doesn’t and holds the ball he allows the DBs/LBs too much time to close in on his locked target- not to mention enable the pass-rush. Even so, there was nothing- not even the lousy failure to convert and go up by 17- that can’t be corrected. To all the fans out there, this ISN’T last year’s team. This isn’t the smoke/mirrors of 2010. These guys looked and played like professional football players and a team that belongs in the NFL. That WASN’T the case at ANY point after the Bears game last year.

Joe, I can’t say enough about the gutsy, gritty performance of the D. Newton is going to create, but they dominated the line of scrimmage (yes you read that right) and McCoy was a beast. Lavonte David could be a superstar and Barron has the power to intimidate and the range to go sideline to sideline. His coverage on that deep-out was spectacular. Honestly, this was the best I’ve seen the D play in many, many years.

Kudos to all of the coaches and players and congrats to my fellow fans…WE WON and it feels great!

  21. Orlandobucfan Says:

It was one game but it meant so much to not only us the fans but the morale and justification to the players of the new schiano order regime!!! Doug martin did what we needed him to do and for a rookie he blocked damn well and caught passes. The bucs are looking promising thank you football gods for some hope.

  22. rrsrq Says:

finally, back to fast, swarming D. Great game Ronde Barber

  23. Stylnsteven Says:

Hell Yeah!!! Actually watched the game. Was closer than it needed to be. Bucs were in control the entire way. Won the Schiano way. Dam proud of this team for the solid effort from all 3 phases. Impressive win!

  24. Tyler Says:

Thank the lord the mccoy haters can finally shut up tht game was awesome the defense looked amazing

  25. snook Says:

    @Joe

When was the last time a Bucs head coach won his first ever game? Has it ever happened????

  26. Pewter_Power Says:

Glad we got the win, but should’ve been a blowout. Passing game looked stagnant outside of the first drive. I’m sure things will improve as the season goes on. Damn it is a good day.

  27. bucfanjeff Says:

Blount got his bell rung …it wasn’t his leg. Not his first time.

  28. Hawaiian Buc Says:

All the GMC haters can suck it.

  29. bucfanjeff Says:

Cam can kiss my ass and all the hype the media provides him with. Mortal after all.

  30. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ bucfanjeff

Where’d you see that? That’s what I thought too. He looked like he was punch drunk

  31. Matt Says:

Bulls Win! Rays Win! Bucs Win! What a great day to be from T-Town!

  32. Macabee Says:

    Snook,

I’m quoting a Ira Kaufman tweet today. “It’s been two decades since a TB coach won in his Buc debut. Vinny Testaverde led Sam Wyche and the Bucs past the Cardinals 23-7 in 1992”.

  33. SkookumSmitty Says:

Snook, I think Rich Williamson did, so don’t get too excited.

  34. Patrick Says:

Great win!! Hope Blount’s injury is nothing serious though!!

Stay healthy McCoy……..liked what I saw from you and the D today!!

  35. Northend Says:

THAT FELT GOOD !!!!!! Best complete package we have put together in a decade! That first half was about as balanced as it gets.

  36. bucfanjeff Says:

@sensible, I re-watched the play on the DVR (I live in SC). The Panther LB hit head to head on that tackle. When Blount tried to get up he was woozy…VERY obvious. He might have been pointing to his leg, but that’s because his brain couldn’t make his leg(s) function. Definitely a head shot. Doubt we hear anything about it, but my wife and I saw for sure.

  37. Miguel Grande Says:

Grande would say GMC had the best game of his career. Miguel would suggest not greasing his gloves in the future. He almost got 2 sacks. Many QB pressures, a tackle and he scared the daylights out of Newton.

Thank God, that the Bucs didn’t run Aqib Talib off, they wouldn’t have won without him.

  38. Hawaiian Buc Says:

GMC got a sack Grande. Watch the game and learn the rules.

  39. Hawaiian Buc Says:

My bad, I think I see what you meant. Too excited to comprehend well right now.

  40. McBuc Says:

Macabee, let’s hope the seasom does no rend with 92…

  41. Colorado Buc Says:

@Taylor, hell yeah he was the most disruptive force we’ve seen since Sapp!!! in the backfield blowing Sh%t up from the first snap. This is the difference that COACHING can make!!

  42. ClayBURN94 Says:

Hey Miguel and Eric, [Eeesssee now. — Joe] AND GO BUCS!!!

  43. E350BENZ Says:

Great win. Defense really impressed me. Nice job of coaching on the D side of the ball, everyone stayed in their lanes.

  44. Tom Says:

Great to see. But I didn’t like to see Josh regressing in the 2nd half as the Panthers made adjustments (at least I hope them made adjustments). He’s got to keep it together for the whole game! Otherwise it looked great. How about the D-? They really preserved the win. And Special Teams too. Except kick returns. The kick returns were a little disappointing, hopefully it was first game of the season jitters. Pretty much a great showing for the entire team at one point or another.

  45. MTM Says:

The Panthers are what thought. Over hyped ! Bring on the Giants !

  46. rross Says:

I am worried about the offense. I think Benn will help, and more Blount. Hope he’s not seriously injured. playing that type of defense, if they can score 20+, they’ll be hard to beat.

  47. K1ngAdroc Says:

HELL YA!!!!!! GMC REEKED HAVOC!!!!! CAM LOOKED SCARED OUT THERE
