Father Dungy Back At One Buc

June 7th, 2012

Much has been speculated over the years as to the relationship between Father Dungy and Team Glazer following Dungy’s less-than-loving ouster from the Bucs.

What’s true or not is unclear, but Joe found it telling that Father Dungy was in attendance at One Buc Palace yesterday for the news conference introducing Paul Gruber as the next inductee into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.

Father Dungy was so comfortable, in fact, he took time for an interview with Bucs video mogul Scott Smith, now posted on Buccaneers.com. Definitely check it out. Dungy offers some good takes on Gruber, and it seems that Dungy is excited to return to Raymond James Stadium when the Buccaneers honor Gruber and the 1997 Bucs team in October.

Joe is pleased to know if there were any bad feelings between Dungy and Team Glazer, apparently they are ancient history.

Joe also hopes Greg Schiano had a chance to forge a relationship with Dungy and schedule a meeting, if they haven’t already met. Surely Schiano should want to pick Dungy’s brain when it comes to building a program and selecting and developing a coaching staff.

    Interesting too that Derrick Brooks was there as well. Saw his picture in the photo collection for the ceremony on the main website.

  2. GurS Says:

    Joe, surely the fact that A) the Bucs offered to hold Brooks’ retirement announcement and B) Brooks agreed to hold his retirement announcement at OBP already indicated that they were moving past whatever bad feelings it created when he was cut?

    I think if ever there was a man with forgiveness in his heart, its Tony Dungy. He will always be a total Class Act.

    Time heals all wounds! I think 10 years is surely long enough(too long), unless your a Hatfield or a McCoy.

    Ditto and the same can be said of Brooks.

    Joe,

    You forgot Shiano was at Dungy’s All Pro Dad Event. Hopefully that is when they forged a relationship.

    Joe here,

    @GurS — Who’s talking about Brooks??

    average coach at best! Cost the bucs at least three super bowls! 2002 was our worst team from 96-2002. nice guy though

  9. Orlandobucfan Says:

    Tiny dungy is one of the classiest and humble coaches the bucs have had. He is a major reason why we are where we are and have any expectations with the bucs. Cant wait to see him in the ring of honor!!! Father dungy is exactly who he is.

    @Joe

    Josh was.

    Why would we want Schiano talking to Dungy about building a staff? Sure he is a great guy, and built a hell of a defensive staff, but his decisions on offensive personnel and staff were so poor, a much better team than Raheem’s quit on him in the playoffs twice!.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love Dungy, but he didn’t win us a superbowl. Only one coach has, like him or not, and hopefully Schiano will build us a respectable team like Dungy, and coach them to win like Gruden. My initial opinion is that he will surpass them both, and be in the Bellicheck and Coughlin catagory, not just a one time wonder like our two previously successful coaches.

    I’m confused, who are we talking about? Brooks, Dungy or Tiny Tim??

    @Joe

    Lol, when I saw “Father Dungy Back At One Buc”, I thought it meant he was employed with the Bucs again.

    Tony Dungy is a Tampa Legend. He was the first coach to bring the Bucs back to respectablility. Sure, it didnt hurt he came in around the same time as Brooks, Sapp, Lynch, Barber, Alstott, an Dunn. But then again, he is partly responsible for bringing these men into the Bucs familia.

    Tony helped change everything in Tampa Bay abiut football.

    @Bold Truth- Cost us two Superbowls? More like had us in the playoffs every year but his first! Sure, our offense sucked after we lost Dunn but thats on the GM. Then he won a Superbowl with the Colts. Average coach? You are just a hater with negative vibes.
