Connor Barth Signed

May 17th, 2012

Literally as Joe walked into his modest abode at 2:17 eastern daylight time, Joe’s Droid Razr Maxx went off with an alert from the Bucs that free agent kicker Connor Barth has been signed.

Joe will let the release from the Bucs explain the details.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced today that they have signed K Connor Barth, the team’s franchise player, to a four-year contract.

“For the Bucs organization, [General Manager] Mark Dominik, Coach [Greg] Schiano and everyone to believe in me, to know that I’ll be their kicker for the next four years, is awesome,” said Barth. “It’s just an amazing opportunity and I want to continue to perform like I have and live up to their expectations. I want to thank everyone – the fans, everybody, the team behind me – and I’m looking forward to getting back on the field.”

There. Some Bucs fans long nightmare is complete. One of the few weapons that consistently came through for the Bucs is now in the fold for four more seasons.

Reportedly, the deal is worth some $13.2 million with $4-mil guaranteed. Not bad for a guy who logs, at best, 15 plays a game.

Joe, you getting anything for that?

Joe wishes. It’s a pretty cool device sans the [censored] flat-screen keyboard.

  3. Brandon Says:

Bart logs 15 plays a game? 28 FG attempts and not nearly enough XP attempts somehow comes out to 15? I’m thinking he logs, at best, 4-6 plays a game. Don’t forget, the dude doesn’t kick-off anymore.

  4. J 2.0 Says:

AT BEST BRANDON. Nice way to try and twist Joe’s words.

Wow, talk about nit-picking. Well, you opened the door.

Damn, Joe tries to bring information right away to his readers and you blast him for something this trivial? You just caught Joe in a bad mood a-hole.

“At best” means a ceiling. Dope.

I haven’t been this excited about a kicker since Matt Bryant’s 62 yarder! The Michael Husted 57 yarder vs. Oakland was pretty special too 😉

  7. Retread Says:

    Take that Mike Nugent

  8. Bucworld Says:

This guy has been consistent ever since he has been a Buc. Great sign for both sides.

  9. eric Says:

Not likely to wear out his leg kicking off.

Great to see Dom do something smart.

Glad we didn’t mess around on this one.

Now, can we get a veteran DE?

Please don’t ignore depth needs and leave the Bucs haning with no choice, but to pick up a “Haynesworth” type player.

Love this move!! A good kicker goes along ways. And I’m glad to see its for 4 years. No more FT on the kicker. Although I would’ve done the same thing this offseason. He is too good to let go!

And for real with the nit-picking. Who cares how many plays he is in a whole game…as long as he makes the ones count that he actually plays. Thats all that matters. Get em’ Joe!!

  12. Adam Says:

Kickers are a joke…… until you don’t have one.

How quickly we forget that season when Gramatica developed the yips. Money well spent. Barth has been money in the bank. I’m glad to see Dominik following through on the “re-signing our own” policy.

So I’m guessing you didn’t take my advise and try out Swift Key? I don’t use it (i have a physical keyboard on my G2) but my girl used it on her Behold II and uses it on her Amaze 4G and she absolutely swears by it.

…but on to the topic…. Hooray, i guess? Wasn’t really worried about him not signing.

  14. JonBuc Says:

He has been clutch. Played at an All-Pro level last year… Just didn’t get enough attempts and played for a lousy team.

  15. Mr Lucky Says:

Holy crap that Mark Dominik is a freakin genius!

With this signing the Bucs will definately be in the SuperBowl in 2012!

I can’t wait to see Barth kicking a record number of field goals and then he’ll make the Pro Bowl as well.

I’ll bet this makes the rest of the NFL quake in their cleats.

What a time to be a Bucs fan!

[No, none of that crap. Mr. Lucky is a long-time Joe commenter. One of the very first. — Joe.]

Joe really doesn’t know what that is, sorry.

Simply put, Joe needs a Qwerty. Typing is 80 percent of what Joe uses a cell phone for; simply can’t type on a flat screen. Have had the phone for four months and typing is actually worse, not better.

Let’s look at this deal a different way! 4yrs @ 13.2mil stated differently is 64 games @ $206,250 a game. And since 4mil is the most the Bucs are obligated to pay (gauranteed), that’s 19.4 games. So if Barth doesn’t make every FG attempt within the 50yd line, he can be released at halftime in the 4th game in 2013 with no additional money owed. Not such a great deal! That Dominik is such a clever guy!

  19. Mr Lucky Says:

@Advertise – Hey dude what’s your problem with me?

Connor Barth is a PROVEN Buc player. He deserves to be rewarded doesn’t he?

I mean think about this – drafted players, who haven’t even played a single down in the NFL and people are GUSHING about how good the defense is going to be/improve.

Just like last year, before YOU were around, people were attempting to come up with a name for the Bucs front four: Bowers, McCoy, Price and Clayborn. In case you don’t recall the Bucs front 4 were supposed to DOMINATE the NFL.

Bowers barely played, GMC went out again, Price was hurt as well. Only Clayborn performed well; especially for a rookie. This year everyone had the same accolades right after the draft and look – BOOM Bowers is down for the season.

So forgive me if I actually get excited about a PROVEN BUC PLAYER GETTING REWARDED FOR ACTUALLY PLAYING AND LIVING UP TO THEIR EXPECTATIONS!

  20. Stevek Says:

We have a good kicking game on lock down.

Time to sure up the D.

  21. Lion Says:

Barth was the most consistent player on the team last year, that much is for sure.

  22. patrickbucs Says:

He may have been our best player last year, special teams where the only real positive last year.. good signing.
