Vincent Jackson Will Make Receivers Better

April 23rd, 2012

Now Joe cannot find one Bucs fan irritated that Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik signed San Diego wide receiver Vincent Jackson. The former target of Philip Rivers instantly gives the Bucs a home run threat at receiver.

But he does more than that, said NFL.com contributor and Bucs beat writer Jenna Laine.

Appearing last night on “670 The Score,” WSCR-AM 620 in Chicago, Laine believes Jackson’s presence in the locker room is twofold.

After initially gaining the rapt attention of host Matt Abbatacola by explaining how she was wearing pink pajamas, Laine explained how valuable Jackson will be to the rest of the young Bucs receivers.

“Not having a leader in the [receivers] meeting room to show them how to be leaders, it was the blind leading the blind. When you don’t have someone to show yo9u how to be a pro, that is when problems happen.”

Laine also believes LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, if available, is the smart pick for the Bucs at the No. 5 position.

“You are going to need three solid corners. Claiborne is instinctive and fluid. He can play man and zone. They trusted him in so many situations at LSU they didn’t have to worry about anyone making a big play against him. And he is a solid special teams performer.”

Joe believes Laine is onto something with Jackson’s roster spot. The guy not only can be a big brother of sorts, just having Jackson around will push Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn and Preston Parker. Competition is always a good thing.

Sorry, I have to type it………

    You THINK?

Of course Jackson will make our receiver’s better. You can only cover so many and VJ will free somebody up. But yes, his experience and veteran leadership will help a lot too.

But this is not rocket science, who would NOT agree?

This is something needed for many positions on this team. It seems everyone knew this last year but Dominik. Still wondering where that leadership is for the linebacker position. Know that is obviosly the weakest link on this team and seeing what a difference Nickerson made it seems obvious again this is where the GM’s attention needs to be. He’s really flirting with his employment by not addressing the position. One would think his plan is to hire Kurchely (sp?) the top lb. I have to believe this will be the pick no matter if Clayborne or Richardson are on the board. He still needs to find that veteren to show these guys (minus Black who won’t make it thru camp) how to be pro’s

As much money as they are paying him, he better make everyone else better.

I don’t think I’ve been this excited about BucBall since maybe the super bowl year! I really like what’s going on with the roster as far as offense and hoping to see some solid linebackers brought in for competition. Go Bucs!

Our offense will be so much better it’s gonna look like a different team. Can’t wait till Madden 13 comes out. I may even start going to The C.I.T.S. again (Chris Thomas reference)

I would like to see Ed Gant in the mix of that. He’s fast like A.Benn, but Benn has” Pro Day Speed” , but I don’t think he’s as fast in the game. That’s were I like Gant, he plays fast.

Jackson is a talented receiver, however is he elite? there are critics who believe he gets free release at the line of scrimmage too often and if he was contested would be less effective, and there have been consecutive games where he does not make an impact. Time will tell if his presence will improve this offense.

  8. OptimisTroll Says:

He better make Freeman better. $55,555,555 to make #5 look good.

Except for being beat by a receiver with 16 catches (Andre Debose) last season and a true freshman QB (Jacoby Brissett) for a 65 yard TD last year. I guess he only let average WR’s, true freshman QB’s and TR make big plays against him. I love the play in the NCG where TR runs to Mo Money’s side of the defense and Mo Money runs away from the play at first and then gets outrun to the endzone by TR. That’s the guy I want playing CB for the bucs.

As far as special teams I would prefer the Bucs to draft Chris Rainey in the later rounds, he is the change of pace we need that can actually run up the middle, has the speed to take it all the way and is a beast on special teams, blocking punts and returning kicks.
