Mark Barron Likes It Physical

April 27th, 2012

One reason the Bucs drafted Alabama safety Mark Barron was that he’s not afraid of physical contact. In fact, it may be one of his best traits.

For Barron, speaking at his introductory press conference from One Buc Palace, a blast on an opponent is two-fold, and no, neither reason for the hit has anything to do with getting on BSPN or CBS Sports Network or NBC Sports Network.

A big hit, he said, sends a message to both friend and foe.

“It gets people excited,” Barron said of the reaction among his teammates when he buries a ball carrier. “But it also makes a big statement [to opponents]. It means you mean business. It lets [opponents] know you are here to play.”

Hope he does not become a flag magnet in todays NFL….

  2. Bobby Says:

    I like that attitude!

  3. Cmurda Says:

    Me too.

  4. Travis Says:

Damn right, can we find 10 more of these guys? We need some more people with his attitude

  5. Lion Says:

If you think about it drafting Mark Barron makes loads more sense than drafting Claiborne. Barron can make splash plays in the run defense, pass defense, and can blitz. Claiborne is more of a one dimensional player. Great pick up.

  6. Oahubuc Says:

Fearless, smart, hard hitter. He hits clean, too and might already be the best tackler on our roster.

  7. Dew Says:

Hoping both new players work out well. But for me it’s going to be how does Barron’s career compare to Luechly’s. I hate that the Panthers drafted Luechly right after we picked Barron as opposed to a team in another division.

  8. Paul Says:

The guy at the PC asked him what his nickname is. Mark said, “I don’t really have one, but it’s probably something about hitting if there is one.”

  9. passthebuc Says:

I hope Cody’s leg heals so you could have 2 very sure tackling safeties.

  10. So. Ill. Bucs Says:

Someone please make Cody Grimm drink a whole lotta milk and do all his stretches right(maybe even take some yoga like Davin Joseph); because if he can return to anywhere near his rookie form and stay healthy, opposing running backs are going to find themselves between a rock and a harder rock.

Barron and Grimm together on the field might be what we need to get our run defense into decent shape again.

  11. So. Ill. Bucs Says:

    *does all his stretches

  12. So. Ill. Bucs Says:

err…maybe I had it right the first time.

  13. Cmurda Says:

LMAO@ So. Ill. I like the between a rock and a harder rock line.

  14. FLoridaGirl Says:

It will be nice to see a Buc defender in the secondary move towards contact instead of away from it.

“Mark Barron likes it physical.” So does my girlfriend 😉

  16. Lion Says:

ClayBURN94, that is so funny I forgot to laugh.

If anyone had any doubt about MB…
    after hearing this…
“But it also makes a big statement [to opponents]. It means you mean business. It lets [opponents] know you are here to play.”

Awww yeah! Here comes the missile!
    You wouldn’t hear that come out of Claiborne’s mouth(and I’m a fan of Claiborne’s).

  18. ClayBURN94 Says:

    Lol f*** you lion!

  19. Papawill13 Says:

The IR is Excited to have him on the team…

I have lost all faith in this regime. Its 2012 not 1962.

  20. Lion Says:

    lol

  21. SilenceTheCritics Says:

Everyone seems to be pegging Cody as the starting FS… but I’m thinking Ahmad Black is going to take his job soon. 2 young ball hawks back there is going to be nice!!

  22. Lion Says:

    @silence

Yeah I agree, I could see that happening myself as well. I would like to see what Ahmad Black can do for us.

  23. So. Ill. Bucs Says:

Wouldn’t mind seeing a rotation with Black in on more passing downs and Cody stuffing the run.

  24. Miguel Grande Says:

I see Barron as a two down safety, when it’s an obvious passing down Rond takes his place. Big fail for Dominik.

  25. Bama Bucs fan Says:

Miguel Mark “the Red Barron” Barron can defend the pass and run equally. He was a STUD in that bama defence. Go back thru his college career you can count on one hand how many missed tackles on runs and on the other hand you can count the times he got beat on a pass and gave up a TD and have fingers on both hands left.
