Dominik Disappointed With Jackson Off-field

April 11th, 2012

As Joe suggested yesterday, oft-suspended Bucs safety Tanard Jackson was let go not just because of a physical, but other elements were involved.

Jackson, who is rebabbing his shoulder in New Orleans, did not attend the Bucs first voluntary workouts last week at One Buc Palace.

Given the fact that was a first opportunity for players to learn their new coaches and get marching orders on how the offense/defense will be played, Joe thought that was borderline insubordinate to new coach Greg Schiano for Jackson to blow off the gathering.

Read between the lines for yourself on what Bucs rock star Mark Dominik told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times on the release of Jackson.

“What’s important to us as an organization is the growth of our football players and how they handle (things) on and off the field to become the best Buccaneer possible,” Dominik said Tuesday. “And that’s what we’re looking for.”

Now Joe has noticed that a lot of Bucs fans are wringing their hands over the loss of Jackson. But think this through.

Outside of one game last year, Jackson was one of the worst players on the NFL’s worst defense and a franchise record-setting horrible defense.

Is that really a loss?

Simply put, the Bucs couldn’t trust the guy.

Good riddance. Would much rather be thin at the position and foster talent for a year or two rather than see the Bucs put up with players who don’t know just how good they have it to play in the NFL.

  2. jvato24 Says:

My belief of Reason for release
#1 With Jacksons previous violations … He had a clean slate but short leash with Schiano

#2 Jackson decided to rehad in New Orleans, not Tampa, missed the 1st week with a new coach and team and came back out of shape and it was evident he had not been rehabbing routinely. (If your going to rehab out of the facility, it better be Evident as hell you are getting good results)

#3 So far Shiano has revealed traits of players in his scheme. He wants his DTs fast and upfield and also said he needs his Safeties to be able to get someone down if the Blitz “pops” or it is a TD. Jackson had shown some of the worst tackling ever .. His form was even worse than Piscitellis .. Piscitelli tried .. just got ran over.

    IMO

“Outside of one game last year, Jackson was one of the worst players on the NFL’s worst defense and a franchise record-setting horrible defense.”

He hadn’t played in a year and we had next to no pass rush when GMC went down. I would’ve flushed it and moved on.

    “Is that really a loss?”

Absolutely it is. Talent like his doesn’t grow on trees. Look at how many safeties we’ve gone through since Tanard was drafted in 2007. When he was playing at his peak he was one of the top 10 safeties in the NFL. This leaves a huge hole.

  4. BucsFanInChina Says:

When exactly was that peak again?

  5. Dylan Says:

He was one of my favorite players but it is what it is, i like the message schiano is sending to the team. Hope aqib took this in and digested how serious schiano is and how tight of a ship he is running. I have a feeling aqib will suprise people this year and stay focused on football and stay out of trouble. Aqib is my favorite player and his ralent is un questionable, he is a “Blue chip player”.

  6. Dylan Says:

    Talent*

  7. Capt. Tim Says:

    Amazing!
That defense last year was so inept, so bad, so pathetic!!!
No one on the back 7 should have a damn job( except the Great Ronde Barber!)
    They were disgustingly bad.
Yet half the brain dead posters her keep saying what great talents they all are!!
You zombies do know we went 4-12 last year, right?
    Great talents don’t do that!!
Our Goung D- line played hard all season.
The rest of those friggin bums suck! And they quit!!
    What team were you watching??

  8. jvato24 Says:

No Doubt, When Healthy … One of the best Ball Hawking safeties in the NFL not named Ed Reed.

  9. Joe Says:

Think about it: Was he that talented?

The Bucs won 10 games in 2010 without Tanard Jackson.

With him, they lost 10 in a row.

  10. Kryq Says:

Big loss, he was out of football for a year, no offseason every year before that jackson was a beast, I still think its a dumb move. Jackson is a ball hawking hard hitting safety.

  11. passthebuc Says:

Why discuss the past, the future is what is important. Comments should be directed to what might be coming, not that Hardy is not the middle linebacker any more.

  12. Garv Says:

Joe’s right IMO. Tannard could not be counted on and ended up part of the problem. He had to go.
I think it sends the right message too.

Not bothering to show up for the first week and show up out of shape when he did show up? That’s not the commitment Coach Schiano wants from his players and, as a fan, neither do I.

  13. Mr. Patrick Says:

There’s a new sheriff in town and the inmates no longer run the jail. The new “Buccaneer Way” has been established and a strong message has been sent. It’s “our way or the highway.” I love it.

  14. Jimmy Says:

So Tanard Jackson would rather hang in New Orleans — shoulder my arse — than come to the team that employs him, stuck by him when most would/should have throw his pot-smoking arse on the street — meet his new coaches and start to learn his new system?

    See ya!

    RECESS IS OVER!!!

  15. Fatmosh Says:

Wait, you’re saying he was worse than Quincy Black???

  16. gbuc Says:

joe, why no criticism of Blount for not being there for the first meeting? Oh, that’s right, He was busy being a fashion Diva!

  17. Yar Says:

Man, Rah really screwed this team and players up bad.

  18. Have A Nice Day Says:

Led the league in missed tackles per attempt. Not hard to see how this could happen. He let himself go completely.

  19. princespanky Says:

I respect that talent that TJack has…. anybody who has seen him put on a Bucs uniform and watched him do things like his lick on Dallas Clark doesn’t need any lessons on how the guy plays football. He will leave a hole in terms of ability.

I am however loving the law that Sheriff Schiano is bringing; you have to be one hell of an idiot to look a team that pays you big money to play football in the mouth like that. To Greg Schiano’s great credit, he seems like a guy who will be fair but will call you out as soon as you cross his line.

The team should take notice. You all have your chance to be here and be part of something special. If you elect to not do the right thing Sheriff Schiano will run you out of town. It’s long overdue. I am a big Talib fan (huge since we picked him). I enjoy seeing Talib in a Bucs uniform and this is his chance to earn the privilege of continuing to wear one. Let’s hope he gets it together and keeps it together.

  20. Macabee Says:

I am not troubled by the Jackson firing. I assume the coaches know better than anyone who should be on the team or not. All that I ask as a fan is that for each action that they take, I expect an appropriate response or alternative that does not put the team at a disadvantage.

I refer specifically to the timing of the Cadillac and Ruud transactions last year. I had no problem with the actions taken, But I did not like going into the season with an untrained and unproven rookie as MLB and not having a productive 3rd down back.

I trust in this case, the ramifications of this move was thoroughly considered, and a reasonable alternative is in the plans!

  21. DallasBuc Says:

Jackson was playing injured last year with torn rotator cuff and two bad hamstrings but did not complain and did all he could to prove his commitment and help his team win. When healthy this guy is one of the top safeties in the league. Bad move Dominik.

  22. Josh Says:

It’s clear for the first time since Gruden was fired they are running the team with the intent to win now. Talent is simply that and nothing more. I like the idea of the Buccaneer Way, and it seems the players are buying in. Schiano is methodically putting things in order without the mindset of waiting around for people to get on board. I expect at least two more surprises in the coming weeks. You’re either in or as Heidi Klum says, “You’re owt.”

  23. Nate Says:

So now we need to draft safety bad in the draft! We have huge holes at backup RB LB and Safety.. all very important positions.. Maybe we should bring in asante samuel for a 5th roun pick? not saying we should but our players in safety are weak..

  24. Macabee Says:

Whatever the ramifications of this move it appears that Dominik is getting smarter when negotiating contracts. It looks like he did this one right!

  25. Matt Says:

based on current form he isnt a great talent.
    1. Low character guy -during the lockout offseason workouts he was pictured with Talib….another bum, probably smoked more weed than bob marley too. 2.Doesn’t want to tackle people=questionable effort.
    3. A chance to show willing infront of new employers and show that he’s comitted to the team….naaa il stay in new orleans. not a team player
    4. He hasnt played anywere near the standard of his first season in the league- one year wonder

eventually we’ll be better off without him, even if he stayed, safety would still be a hole. in the unlikely event that he finds another team stupid enough to take him, theyl soon realise why we released him. he’ll be out the league soon 1/2 years, maybe a 3rd if he’s lucky/turned himself around, but i sincerely doubt it. good riddance.

  26. Bobby Says:

It’s about more than talent. T-Jax may be talented but he didn’t show it last year and apparently he won’t be showing it this year either the way his rehab looked to the Bucs. Like Schiano said, he’s looking for guys that LOVE the game. Obviously Jackson NEVER loved the game more than he loved partying or he’d have never let his team down like he did in the past. It’s a good message for the entire team and I don’t see it being a big loss. I would never count on T-Jax to be there for the long haul. He has demonstrated a total lack of commitment. Best safety not named Ed Reed??? What an insult to every other safety in the NFL who have been playing football at a higher level than T-Jax for the past two years. That would be….ALL OF THEM!

  27. ATLBuc Says:

So, does the same logic not apply to Talib?

  28. TheTaylorPrice Says:

The first 3 rounds will be telling for us. Not many people agree with me and continue to say that a #2 back is more important than addressing our safety needs. No returning starters and Grimm is coming back from b2b leg injuries. I love Cody back there but it is not a certainty. We could take care of our top 3 needs with our first 3 picks… Obviously we go Claiborne at 1 and let him get to work with his previous DB’s coach. Here’s where i loose some. Harrison Smith with our 2nd pick over one of the 2nd teir/backups to Blount. Harrison Smith can play either SS or FS. Hes 6’2 215, ultra-athletic, 4 year starter at ND, team captain and SMART. That leaves Mychal Kendricks with our 3rd pick and he immediately takes over the Mike and allows Foster to move to his natural WILL. Being 5’11 240, hes a Steven Tulloch mold, playing a very physical middle backer. Oh, and he runs extremely well clocking in at 4.47 in the 40.

CLAIBORNE. HARRISON. KENDRICKS. OUR STARTERS FOR THE NEXT 10 YEARS

  29. Rrsrq Says:

I agree that T-Jax should’ve been in Tampa with the team to meet and work with new coaches, but let’s not forget, out of football for more than a year(though self induced), played hurt, pulled hamstring on one of the few interceptions the team had, shoulder hurt etc., also worked with team during lock out last year. I just hopes he doesn’t relapse and blow his chance to land with another team. Im a Bucs fan and have blind faith in this team right now that they know what they’re doing.

  30. BigBear Says:

@dallasbuc He was involved in one winning game. every other game he played in to my knowledge we lost! He was replaced in the season ending loss by Black. He only had on good game (the first one)

  31. Brad Says:

Another Dominik failure. Why did Jackson ever get an extension?

  32. thibs5599 Says:

There is no telling if Jackson would have gotten back to pre-suspension form. Yea the guy basically came off the couch but after a month of playing football he should have been ready to go. He was still dogging it late in games towards the end of the season and was not in game shape. His Job is to work out, he gets paid to hit the weights, he makes a living to wake up at 5 am and go run sprints. I liked Jackson just as much as the next guy but he had no room for mistakes and he clearly was not showing enough effort. We are not missing anything, in fact he was one of the worst players in the NFL last year so we are getting better potentially at the position. Could he have been better this coming season, sure, but we do not know that and have not had a productive T-Jack on the field for over two years, therefore his production will not be missed.

  34. DallasBuc Says:

BiggieBear.. that’s because he was playing injured. Obviously the coaches thought he was the best option even playing injured. Is that Jackson’s fault or Dominik’s? Again, when healthy he is a top safety. This move will hurt us bad.

  35. princespanky Says:

@TaylorPrice I think your onto something there…. if we could trade down and get a quality corner and an RB it would really be something but I like your thought process… Thank goodness there is good value at RB in this draft.

  36. hamilton Says:

you have to be crazy to think jackson was the worst player.

  37. Joe Says:

    gbuc:

joe, why no criticism of Blount for not being there for the first meeting? Oh, that’s right, He was busy being a fashion Diva!

What’s to criticize? Each team had to have a representative in New York to wear the new jerseys for unveiling. The NFL picked Blount.

This was mandated by the league, a higher power than Schiano, Dominik or even Team Glazer.

  38. raphael Says:

way to put foot in mouth gbuc….

    btw….good riddance tjack… 1 down 2 or 3 to go.

  39. the buc realist Says:

i am disappointed with Dominik’s performance. Just thought i would throw that in while we are sitting back and judging.

  40. bucbelevr Says:

Goodell needs to get these player penalties OUT ALREADY for the Saints!! So that we can relish in their demoralized, hopeless, practically-projected 3-13 season. AND, how much they will be in salary cap hell, since they went out and spent so much on LB’s, etc, trying to compensate for the penalties.

    C’mon Goodell!

  41. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bucs didn’t lose anything by cutting Tanard, they actually got better. He had a couple very good years but his interest obviously waned and his heart was no longer in playing football. I’m glad Schiano made example of someone, especially the guy that skipped the first week of class. No excuse justifies this POS not being at 1 Buc. Healthy or not, be there to learn, sober.

  42. BigMacAttack Says:

I had hoped Tanard would return from suspension the same ball hawking hitter, but he came back lazy and more like a quitter. Another waste of talent down the drain. Maybe we’ll get lucky and the Aints will sign him. V-Jax will own him down field. How could anyone still support this guy. 3 strikes and 6 foul balls is enough for anyone.

  43. DallasBuc Says:

Tanard did return as the same ball hawking hitter, just check the stats from the first 2 games. He was injured in second game against Bears and continued playing with injury throughout the year. How can you say he didnt have heart and was lazy? The opposite is actually true.
While i agree he should have shown up for voluntary meeting, that could have been dealt with internally if they wanted to keep him. The rest of this nonsense about heart and laziness is sad and unfair.

  44. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ BucsFanInChina

    2007-2009

65 tackles, 8 passed defended & 2 picks per year. That’s pretty darn good for a safety.

  45. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ Joe

“Think about it: Was he that talented? The Bucs won 10 games in 2010 without Tanard Jackson. With him, they lost 10 in a row.”

    That’s WEAAAK sauce Joe!

Are you attempting the argue that the Sean Jones/Cody Grimm combo from 2010 is somehow better (more talented and/or would put up better numbers) than any combo involving T Jax? That’s absurd.

From a locker room trust standpoint one could make the argument that his loss is addition by subtraction but his on-field numbers speak for themselves. I treated 2011 T Jax like a guy coming back off an achilles/ACL injury. He wasn’t in football shape, he hadn’t played the game at it’s highest level in a year and he was playing on a terrible defense. I’d say he deserved the benefit of the doubt on being able to regain his 2007-2009 form.

  46. Kryq Says:

I wish Tanard the best, he was one of the best safeties we seen other then John Lynch and Phillips. Tanard didn’t do great last season because he was playing through injury he had a torn rotator cuff, and had two bad hamstrings. Tanard is pro bowl potential when healthy and a top 10 safety. I still think this was a dumb decision on Dominik. This building through the draft thing is not working wonder when he is going to realize it.

  47. raphael Says:

@sensiblebuc ya left out 1 important stat.. GAMES HE COULD BE COUNTED ON ! we need a new secondary anyways don’t you think?

  48. BigBear Says:

@DALLASBUC “Obviously the coaches thought he was the best option even playing injured.” That would be the coaches who are no longer on site because of a ten game losing streak in which they decided to leave an injured Jackson on the field to miss tackles, miss read coverages and receivers and generally not play at nearly the level that he has played to in recent years(when available). Yeah that was a fine coaching decision….

  49. ClayBURN94 Says:

So I guess dominik is happy with Talib off the field

  50. jvato24 Says:

Bucbelever … You will be in for a rude awakening if you think the Saints wont have a better record than the Bucs. 9-7 at worst. Sean Peytons playbook will be there. Drew Brees will be there. Steve Spagnuolo will be there with some good new linebackers.

You keep believing they will be 3-13 and look me up at the end of the season.
If your right, I will have my popcorn ready to watch it fall apart.

  51. jvato24 Says:

    Talib is just passionate. HAHA

  52. BigBear Says:

I will add that I liked Tanard a lot. I thought in previous years he had the chance to be a perennial pro bowler and when he was graded out he was an A to B player most games…but like with GMC you get and F for not being on the field.

  53. SensibleBuc Says:

    For the sake of comparison:

    Troy Polamalu’s First 3 years:

75 tackles, 9 passes defended, 2 picks per year.

    Adrian Wilson’s First 3 years:

66 tackles, 7 passes defended, 2 picks per year.

    Michael Griffin’s First 3 years:

68 tackles, 8 passes defended, 4 picks per year.

  54. DallasBuc Says:

@BiggieBear… so i ask again, is that a reflection on Tanard Jackson? No it is not. Also, not exactly an accurate reflection on the coaching staff either because an injured Jackson was the best option considering the lack of talent on the roster. Which brings me back to Dominik. It is his job to put talent on this roster for coaches to work with. Take a moment and think about it before castigating a guy that did everything he could to redeem himself coming back from suspension.
Dominik makes cuts every offseason that ends up burning this team. Think Brooks, Cadillac and now Jackson. Hate this move.

  55. SensibleBuc Says:

    @ raphael

Water under the bridge now brother.

The fact of the matter is, we need a new top line safety if you subscribe to the “build your team from the middle to the outside” theory.

  56. bucbelevr Says:

    This working??

  57. BraveBuc Says:

I don’t get most of the comments about Tanard.

First, he has lots of talent. Is it really that hard to remember his rookie year? How in the world can you evaluate him based off of last year. He could not even practice with the team for a year and he comes back and plays the first week! No way is he going to be in form. Michael Jordan wasn’t even in his top form after his first retirement until the following year.

Secondly, you need more than talent in this league to be successful. Just because someone has raw talent, that does not mean you want him on your team. They must of felt that there was work ethic or character issues that they could not improve to an acceptable level. So I am all for his release. It sends a nice message to the team too.

  58. bucbelevr Says:

What’s the story on things not posting….capacity/timing/cost issue??…

  59. BigBear Says:

@DallasBuc being injured doesn’t cause you to misread and misdiagnose plays.

Now on to that big talent problem at the safety positions. Asante was highly rated coming out of college and slid in the draft due to concerns about his ability in coverage, once in Cleveland he was found to have worked quite diligently on those and became a better safety in coverage, though still more of an in the box type and he was only on the PS because of a glut of players that the safety position for Cleveland that year (2010).

Black is highly talented but was injured in the preseason or camp and took a lil while to get back. once out there he showed he was a willing tackler but was pretty good in coverage and despite concerns about his foot speed coming out of college he was at or near the ball more often than tanard from what i saw ( yea not scientific i know)

Corey Lynch made 3 starts on the year and no where did i see his play being suspect. He was a fine man in coverage, but wasnt that great in the run support game. He seemed to find his landmark well and had a high football iq that rarely left him out of position and therefore he didnt give up that many big plays (The Green Bay long plays were more against single man with little to no safety help as there was often a blitz going on with the lbs so the safeties were also in man.) he is no longer on the team but i would have liked to see him return.

There was talent there for them to try out more, however Jackson and Rah have been buddies since Jackson came into the league in 2008 and Rah was his secondary coach. Jackson started right away and injured because Rah wanted to play his buddy. Even when it was clear that Jackson was struggling, through injury or whatever, he was trotted out there every week with consistently poor results.

  60. Capt. Tim Says:

What? When did he “grade out” anything but a pot head
Had a decent rookie season, then suspended mostly since then
Finished his NFL career 5 years, 239 tackles, 1 sack, 10 interceptions
Pathetic for 5 years. Another piss poor Fruden pick, like Talib, Hayes, Black, and the rest of the useless players he drug in here!

Just a waste of a pick. There wasn’t any ” great talent” to waste .

You “people” hate our leading Reciever( 3 straight years), ta hate our 1000 yard rusher( first one in a while!), and you hate our best defensive player- he wins 78% of the games he plays

Bit you love Tanard, Talib, and Black- and think they are elite talents

What, are you all trash collectors? Yer love of garbage is disgusting!

  61. 941-Bucs Says:

    @gbuc

It was already stated before that Blount had prior engagements. Blount wasn’t just off being lazy. He was chosen to model the New Nike Uniforms in New York. Schiano and Dominik already knew about this. That’s why there is no questions about why Blount wasn’t there.

  62. 941-Bucs Says:

    @Capt. Tim

    A. No one, i mean NO ONE thinks Quincy Black is worth the sweat in his Jock Strap.

    B. No one really loves Talib either. People admit he has supreme talent but an uncontrollable anger.

    C. As for Tanard. 07- Played well and started to move into the starting line-up. 08 Had dam near a pro bowl year, 09 Building on 08′ and starting have another incredible year. Got suspended for a few games. 2010 played 6 games and continued to be one of the better safeties in the league and then suspended for a year. 2011 came back mid season and looked to be in over his head.

Don’t act like Tanard wasn’t a special talent. He was just as stupid as he was talented. I am half and half with his release. I want the Bucs to win so badly i can turn my nose to smoking a little weed. But in the end i want this team to be a team and continue to grow. Which i believe Tanard wont out grow his past.

  63. DallasBuc Says:

@BiggieBear. you are not qualified to determine that Jackson’s issues last year were misreading and misdiagnosing plays. It if fine for you to argue that these 3 scrubs were better than an injured Tanard Jackson but the organization felt otherwise. Call it nepotism by the coach if you want but that is pure conjecture. Still does not support your claim that Jackson had no heart, was lazy and was a quitter. The fact that a head coach would even consider an injured player over 3 other guys at the same position speaks volumes about the quality of depth.
I like Dominik of fine and think he has made some good moves recently but the guy really screws up sometimes (Brooks/Cadillac) and this is one of them. Sorry but the whole story about what happened is not out there because with what has been divulged so far this move makes no sense.

  64. 941-Bucs Says:

If u referring to Amhad Black? I can’t speak much for his NFL debut as he was injured a good portion of the year. When he was actually healthy to play he was out of place ( along with everyone else on D). In college ( im a huge Gator Fan) he was a special talent and consistent play maker. That is why so many people are so high on him. The kid can ball and did so in one of the toughest passing divisions in the college ranks.

My gut feeling says Black and Asante, Just like Bowers, Benn, Stroughter, and Watson are going to have break out years this year. I really don’t see the team as in bad shape as some people suggest. Remember This isn’t a Fantasy Football team we are building Big names don’t always guarantee a win. Hard work and the amount of heart given every day will speak volumes of how good this team is.

  65. BigBear Says:

“Still does not support your claim that Jackson had no heart, was lazy and was a quitter.” I never said anything close to that, if I did please show me where and I will retract it. I actually said that I liked Tanard, and I do think he has a lot of talent he played very poorly last year. He is an excellent talant who in the past showed he was worht way more than he was paid and i actually was so happy when he signed that extension last year…however right after that he went directly into the crapper in his play. The issues were more that he seemed to be out of position, whether by the design of the play by the coaches or on his own, and he let up big plays!

Also how do you know if im qualified or not to say that? I’m speaking from watching the games and from what I saw he didn’t seem to react as quickly as the other players on the team and when he did his efforts were not as sucessfull as other players in his same position were atleast from what i saw. It’s the same as me saying “what makes you qualified to tell how injured he was?” nothing makes any of us that post on here truly qualified to grade people out with exact precision. hence everything is conjecture.

I have no problem in letting Tanard go because is he cant be counted on to make plays because of injury, or suspension then i get it. Also those two major screwups in Brooks and Williams didn’t end with them going out and playing at a high level with another team: Also see Cato June, Ike Hillard, Warrick Dunn, Joey Galloway, and Barrett Ruud as examples of players who were not retained and went on the play less than stellar ball if at all after their tenure with the bucs had ended. I have faith in Dominick because when someone leaves the bucs there is usually a good reason and it is shown in the next year if and when they try to play. Upon saying that I was so upset in the way brooks was handled that I hated Dominick for about 6 months after that and still hold it against him in the way he did that.

  66. OAR Says:

    CapTim
Zombie? I resemble that remark! You don’t have to worry though, zombies are only out for braaaains!
BTW Funny how Tanard’s play was good under Gruden, but bad under Raheem.

    Both on and off field!

  68. Pete Dutcher Says:

I can’t find myself disgreeing with Captain Tim’s first comment about replacing all the back seven except Ronde. When you think about it…the pretty much are hopefully…although I think Quincy gets another year.

Biggers will make the team, but only as a backup. Jones is history. Talib will be history after the draft. Jackson is history.

And other than the first pick, we still don’t KNOW who they’ll take. Personally, I like my CB, LB, LB, SAFETY, RB & QB prediction.

  69. Pete Dutcher Says:

On the Tanard topic…the sad part is that he started out a great player and had the potential the become an elite safety. But all the drugs and time off took a huge toll on him. His play has been decling for years.

Sad how a guy with such talent can destroy his life so recklessly.

  70. BigMacAttack Says:

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good. This team needed to have message delivered to them loud and clear. I think this was it. Tanard had no good excuse for not checking in at least for the first day and gaining Schiano’s trust and blessing for staying away to rehab. To ignore the Coahes first days with the team was a slap in the face to Schiano. I don’t care if Tanard was a All-Pro last year, I like the move. BS will not be tolerated. No one player is bigger than the team. I’m sure K2 will get the same message very soon. As someone else pointed out, Tanard may have had an injury but there are plenty of other workouts he could do to stay fit and strong. I’m glad they sent him packing, hopefully a couple more to come.

  71. OAR Says:

“Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the greater good.” = Albo gator! AKA: Albino aligator

  72. BigMacAttack Says:

Sorry OAR, that one shot right over my head. LOL

And no matter how much anyone loves Tanard or if he is the best safety in the league, he’s gone. So defending him is a moot point now.

  73. 941-Bucs Says:

    @Pete

Would you go with the QB over a TE in the draft even tho we just got that Overly guy from Texans and still have Carpentar on the roster?

I hope they get a TE or anotherO-Lineman with the 7th round pick.

Next year is Safety and LB strong Draft Class. I feel that is where will get those spots filled. Also a much better FA class of DB’s and Lb’s next year.

  74. 941-Bucs Says:

If they don’t trade back: I think they will go

CB, RB, LB, CB, TE, RT.

    Or

RB, CB, LB, LB, TE, DB

  75. dom Says:

in all fairness to him, he did just get off a one year suspension this past year, coulda effected his play. and i think its a loss, he was our defenses biggest playmaker (maybe 2nd to talib) but gotta move on now

  76. 941-Bucs Says:

We always could trade back. Minus missing out on one of the six ELITE players in the Draft. We could honestly fill nearly Most of the holes on this team with very good talent.

Think about it. Trade back once or twice in the first round. Acquire at least a second and third ( if not a few more picks). Also trade down a few spots in the Second Round and acquire another 3rd or 4th rounder.

That gives nearly 5-7 picks in the top 100 players. Which would open a whole ton of options for us. We could end up getting the 2nd best CB, 2nd or 3rd best LB, 2 or 3rd best RB, 2 or 3rd best Safety and a couple more highly talented players to fill TE, LB, DB or O-Line.

We don’t have to make blockbuster trades, just move a couple spots at a time while watching players falling down the draft board.

  77. 941-Bucs Says:

If we did that. I would personally like to see us Aim for:

Dre Kirkpatrick, Dont’a Hightower, Doug Martin, (best safety available), Ron Brooks, best TE available, and Tank Carter.

  78. 941-Bucs Says:

I have faith in the 4 SAfeties we have on the Roster being able to be serviceable till next year. IF the d line can stay healthy and productive.

Grimm-SS and Asante-FS starting. Holland and Black back up’s respectively

It would not surprise me if over the next week or so we learn that Tanard is suspended again. I’m guessing the Bucs got early warning this time around.

But the “clear slate” applies in this situation as well…Tanard had one and he blew it, either by not showing up at the first get-together or worse…doing drugs again.

And the fact that he claimed to be working out out of town, and is out of shape says a lot. He had his clear slate and he blew it.

Schiano, in one fell swoop, proved he’s not going to put up with lazy irresponsible players.

But, Amar, I’m curious. Did you make the same complaint on any of the other releases?

Keep in mind…Schiano said clean sweep…before he reviewed the tape. All that means is that he went into things with an open mind.

  82. 941-Bucs Says:

Guess didn’t mean their leashes got any longer. Wont be surprised if Talib is cut regardless of the court thing too. If what Dominik was saying the reason behind releasing Jackson was true. And it was only because he doesn’t know how to carry him self off the field. Well Talib would be right up there too. Last 3 off seasons 3 different incidents.

  83. SteveK Says:

I wish we could sign Hayneswurf again, give him a HUGE “Tebowesque” press conference, and then CUT HIM during the conference.

Tanard obviously screwed something up for Schiano to pull the plug.

  84. bucfat Says:

    Who is next to go?

  85. 941-Bucs Says:

Talib if he Slips up even once. And Quincy Black if he under performs again. 2 players who could be used as a message respectively.

With the Tanard release the message is. If you are selfish and put yourself before they team or show a lack of effort they are not afraid to cut ties no matter how talented you are.

Talib being cut will send the same message but hit home just a tad. Being a more elite Talent. If you can’t control your self on or off the field and keep your emotions at bay. There is no room for you here.

With Black it will send the message that Rhonde just told in his Press Confrence. The spot is NOT yous to loose. You must earn it every year with production.

At least that is my feelings. Black performed just as bad as Jackson last year, except he didn’t have any time missing or drug issues. He just stunk. With Talib it isn’t the talent or performance in question. Simply can he control himself.

  86. buCncRaZy Says:

Good riddons! Let’s get this pirate ship moving in the right direction! Talib on the plank now!

  87. Hawaiian Buc Says:

We really don’t know the situation that led to the cutting of Jackson. I would bet money that there is more to the story. Like I said in a previous post, I noticed at the Atlanta game that he appeared completely disinterested during warm-ups (which was actually just a half-ass stretch session while singing to music). I would make the assumption that he was probably the same way during meetings and practice. Then he doesn’t show up for offseason workouts, which although voluntary, shows he still doesn’t seem to care. He was given every opportunity by this organization to better himself (starting immediately, carrying the flag on the field in his first game back, getting a non-deserved extension right away), but he didn’t show the same loyalty. I wish him well, but I am not crying over him not being a part of this team. We will be fine, as he really hasn’t been a part of this team for years now.

  88. J 2.0 Says:

Josh Robinson guys, Josh Robinson. I think he will be a Buc. Even If Claiborne is drafted first.

  89. DallasBuc Says:

@BiggieBear.. you are correct. i mixed you up with BiggieMac. Regarding your analysis of Jackson’s play on the field, you are not qualified to say that he misread and misdaignosed plays because you were not in the meeting rooms, dont know the play book and were not the secondary coach last year. No it is not the same as me saying he was injured because my information can be sourced from articles, one of which is the word from Jackson himself but also Dominik. Injury is not opinion. Tanard Jackson did not play well most of last year which is an opinion that i have and am qualified to say that but i cannot say it is because he misread or misdiagnosed plays. That requires a level of expertise that i do not have as a fan that watched every single game from start to finish last year.
To your point about Brooks and Williams not going somewhere else and playing at a high level does not mean they could not have stayed here in our system and played at a high level. I am certain that Brooks makes this team defense and team as a whole much better that year he is unceremoniously dropped. That was and still is so upsetting. Cadillac not being resigned left us with Lumpkin. That dude was horrible when EG went down. On this team he would have done a great job filling in running and in pass protection. That is on Dominik alone. He effed that one up big time and everyone associated with that team paid for it except for Dominik. Lumpkin. just horrible.

  90. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t think Talib and Jackson are all that comparable. I’ve seen Talib warm-up before the game, and he works a million times harder than Jackson (I know that’s only a small sampling, but it’s all I have to go on first-hand). From all that I have read, he is an extremely hard worker at practice, as well as in the meeting rooms. His transgressions off the field would be the factor in cutting him, whereas with Jackson (I think) it is more of his work ethic. Although Talib certainly could be cut, I think they will probably wait this thing out, since he still shows a desire to be a part of the team.

  91. ben Says:

i think personally they plan on moving ronde to fs and grimm to ss, you get consistency with both. there are plenty of corners that have done that move late in their career. grimm plays more in the box like ss ronde will be more in coverage as a fs

  92. BigMacAttack Says:

    @Mr Dallas Buc,
Did you watch every game on TV or the home games at the stadium? Reason I ask is because there is more to see live when you are not limited to TV cameras focused on parts of the plays and player’s butts. You can watch routes, coverages and parts of the play that aren’t captured by the cameras.
I know you know this but sometimes people forget. The BiggieMac reference was cute. I like that. Maybe some BiggieFries too.

  93. Stevek Says:

I’d like a liter of cola with that Biggie Meal.

  94. BigBear Says:

@dallasbuc injury is a fact but severity of injury is a different quality entirely. His hammys were hurt but how much that affected his performance we will never know. Thats what i was getting at because youre not the team trainer you dont know either. So dont get all down on me about an opinion when you cant prove yours anymore than i can prove mine. That was my point.

Yes lumpkin was a mistake, but the bigger mistake was letting olsen try to use him correctly. Blind leading the blind

  95. Amar Says:

    Pete Dutcher,

No I did not question any of the other releases because they made more sense than this one.

When it comes to releasing a player I think there are plenty of things to consider.

Depth, talent, money, etc. All those things I believe should have been enough to retain Tanard Jackson. He comes cheap, may of had a bad year last year but has a record of being a solid safety, and we are already thin at that position. Last year was a difficult year to evaluate any player on our roster, even with his past drug problems he should have gotten another chance to succeed just like everyone else on the roster is.

IMO, we should have kept him however like someone said we may have taken our own urinalysis sample considering he has or HAD a drug problem and are taking matters in our own hand before the NFL does there own testing.

  96. OAR Says:

    BigMac
Albino Aligator is a great movie with Matt Dillion and Gary Sinise. Your statement is an accurate definition of that term….sacrifice for a gain.

  97. OAR Says:

Also would like to clarify, I’m a little torn but glad Tanard was released. I agree with Hawaiian that there seems to be more to this and BigMac that him missing the first OTA is unexcusable, for Tanard’s reasons. I also agree he did seem distanced from the team/games. I just think he does have talent and wish he would just get his head out of his ass and step away from the bong!!
