Freeman Consulted With Eli Manning

March 21st, 2012

A chomping-at-the-bit-sounding Josh Freeman joined the Movin’ The Chains crew on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday and shared that he can’t wait to dive into his new playbook once players can work with coaches beginning April 16.

The new NFL labor agreement prohibits “coaching” before that time. Freeman said the rule change just offers more time to focus on fitness. For those who missed the recent footage of Freeman, he appears significantly leaner.

Interestingly, Freeman said he spoke to Eli Manning recently to chat about new offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan and about what might be in the new Bucs playbook. (Hmmm, who passed on that phone number?)

Joe’s wondering if all the change at One Buc Palace will have Freeman and the offensive regulars seeing a little more time in preseason than normal — hopefully sharpening up and building desperately needed confidence.

Is it April 16th to get with coaches??…or April 2nd, with the new coaching staff in place?…

  2. Sensiblebuc Says:

Glass half full comment: Freeman’s weight loss is going to help unleash all of his ability along with a significant clean up of his mechanics (which probably got so shabby because of his weight).

Glass half empty: Why the hell didnt he come in this kind of shape last year?!?

    ^^^ Great post! ^^^

  4. Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

@SensibleBuc – maybe Freeman knew Raheem didn’t really care if he became a fat boy ?
Regardless, it is great to see Josh really into it! Josh has a cannon for an arm, and I can see him hitting Jackson and Benn, yes Benn, deep and often.

  5. Big Marlon B Says:

“It’s kind of an interesting predicament with the new CBA,’’ Freeman said. “We’re not allowed to really meet with our coaches until April 16. But we’re allowed to go in and start hitting the weights and things of that nature on April 2.’’

OH NO!!!! speaking like that, its apparent he has spent too much time around Raheem….i fear that permanent, irreversible damage has already been done. “you’re talkin bout installin a new system, you’re talkin bout learning terminology, you’re talkin bout getting together with all these guys and those types of things”

haha i’m just messing around. in all seriousness though, i’m glad to see how excited he is to get back to work and get this team headed in the right direction. this is a critical year for him and i’m confident Mike Sullivan is the guy who can help him put it together.

  6. RodfromOKC Says:

I wonder who advised him to drop weight. Weight loss for him is good, as he was a bit husky last season. But how could a coach like Sullivan advise him to drop weight for a new system if a new system isn’t in place?

    Apple

Everybody from the Glazers to the Waterboy came in fat and happy after 2010. It’s human nature i guess.

  8. stevek Says:

Freeman may have gotten in better shape simply because this is a new beginning.

Freeman is still trying to solidify himself as a leader of the Bucs, and by getting himself in good shape he is showing his allegiance to the game, his team, and his fans.

    Go Freeman!

  9. Kujolw Says:

I hope they get it together. We’ve seen there talent, now lets get this coaching thing going

  10. Noleriff Says:

    @ Joe

Ummm…going to assume you were being sarcastic….I’m guessing that since they have the same agent, that’s probably how he got the number….

  11. Eric Says:

But for the last three years everyone has been saying how much the players loved Raheem and did everything they could to win.

Now the guy was out of shape and unmotivated? Coming off a 10-6 season?

    The leader of our team?

Little too fluffy, feal goodie for me.

Kinda like when everyone was drooling over his organized player workouts last offseason.

    Absolutely.

Sean Payton suspended for one year!!!! This year and next year second round picks lost!!

  14. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Sean Payton was just suspended for the entire season! They also lost their second round picks for the next 2 years.

  15. Eric Says:

    Holy crap the whole year??????????

    Wow!

  16. NJBucsFan Says:

Busy day….Sean P is done for the year and Tebow is a Jet. Wonder if he’ll try to save Cro “we straight” marte…

  17. bucooooobruce Says:

yes, I hate the saints more than any other team

  18. bucbelevr Says:

I HATE the Aints too! Our standing in the NFC South just got that much easier! Plus….the NFL has got to love this–NOT! The SuperBowl is in New Orleans this year!! Wow.

Plus, what Free Agents are gonna want to sign there now?!?!

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t think it’s harsh at all (I’m completely biased though). He not only covered it up, he also instructed others to cover it up. This is also not his first time breaking the rules. He got what he deserved, and I wish they gave him more.

  20. J 2.0 Says:

    SUCK IT SAINTS!!!!

CUT MARK SANCHEZ ITS TEBOW TIME ON BROADWAY!!!

  21. Lion Says:

That’s harsh, but hey I hate the Saints and this clearly helps the Bucs. 🙂

  22. OAR Says:

    Who dat suspended?

  23. Lion Says:

Think this helps our case against the Aint’s in the Lofton battle, he will not want to touch that place with a 50 foot pole after this.

  24. OAR Says:

    Not harsh at all!
And, I’m sure suspensions for the 20+ players will soon follow!

  25. OAR Says:

Mark Sancheeze doesn’t have to worry about being a leader and QB now.

  26. Lion Says:

    @OAR

Honestly, did he ever? LOL. Man I can’t believe they just gave him that enormous extension, my goodness!! Stupid Jets haha

  27. bucooooobruce Says:

who dat,I dont know they have no coach.stupid fricken saints ha ha ha you get what u deserve.

  28. Eric Says:

Now they will no how we felt the last three years, with no head coach!

  29. Jeagan1999 Says:

I heard the interview woth Josh yesterday on Sirius and he mentioned that last year he played at up to 260lbs! He stated that he’s down to under 240 now and feels quicker and stronger….that REALLY bodes well for this year! At times last year it seemed that Josh was tired and did not have the same speed and moves he displayed in 2010….now we know why. But after working out this off season at IMG academy and slimming down, I think Coach Schiano will have a Josh ready to play this year!! Can’t wait till the Draft!!!!

  30. BKNYfootballhead Says:

I remember getting a ton of flack for calling Freeman FAT all last season.
I was told: I was crazy. I was blind. I was a hater.
    Well, guess what? HE WAS!

  31. OAR Says:

    Lion
Exactly! He seemed to be worried he would never find those tangibles!

  32. Capt.Tim Says:

    Tebow on Broadway!!
Between that, and Peyton in Denver, you wont even know there are 30 other teams in the league.
They won’t say “buccaneer” 3 times all year!
