Dave Moore On Peyton Manning To Bucs

March 8th, 2012

Below you can listen to an interview of Buccaneers Radio Network analyst Dave Moore talking about BountyGate and Peyton Manning coming to the Bucs on the Dan Sileo Show today. And it sure seems like the cerebral, respected and level-headed former tight end would applaud the Bucs going after the surefire Hall of Fame quarterback.

Moore essentially states that if the Bucs don’t sniff Manning, then the team is telling the Tampa Bay fanbase that they don’t believe the Bucs are close to being a winner.

Joe doesn’t think Manning to the Bucs is a wise idea, though Joe must concede that signing Manning and trading Josh Freeman for a treasure of draft picks would be intriguing and make for a stunning offseason. Now why Peyton Manning would want to join the Bucs in a matter of days, that Joe can’t figure out.

if that does not work, there is always Brett Farve.

  2. thegregwitul Says:

Peyton isn’t going to a team in the NFC, unless Eli finds himself in the AFC sometime in the next three to five days. A QB like Manning who has done it all (Super Bowl, MVP, great numbers) would love the chance to matchup against his brother in the Super Bowl.

The Bucs might inquire in private, but I’m sure 26 or 27 teams will check into the situation, that doesn’t mean the team will extend an offer. Why do that to a promising young QB on a young team with a first year NFL head coach? QB is one of the few bright spots on this team, let’s save the free agent money for CB, LB, RB, WR, SS, etc.

  3. jvato24 Says:

And then Manning takes a Hit … And its all over and Rudy Carpenter is our new leader … And Josh Freeman regains his way and is a 25 year old superstar …. Perfect !!

  4. Meh Says:

    No. No. No.

  5. Have A Nice Day Says:

@jvato That is some outlandish definitive speculation. I applaud your use of such intransigent imaginary absolutes. Not many could follow that act.

A Peyton pick up and Freeman trade for a litany of picks is an exciting proposal. I can’t say I’d be upset if such a happening occurred but I do not see it happening.

  6. flmike Says:

I think Moore has taken one to many hits to the head…

  7. JonBuc Says:

Love ya, Joe! But if you mean a treasure of picks for Freeman by a 6th round pick…then I’d agree…I guess.

  8. Cmurda Says:

Peyton to the Bucs – Ridiculous.

Freeman commanding a littany of picks – Even more ridiculous.

We should be one of the 5 teams that doesn’t contact Peyton.

  9. bucfanjeff Says:

“if the Bucs don’t sniff Manning, then the team is telling the Tampa Bay fanbase that they don’t believe the Bucs are close to being a winner”

No, what it does say is that we know Freeman is our now and future and that we’re smart enough to know Manning will go to a team in which he can start. He won’t start here so there’s no point in asking.

Manning is on the decline and is one good hit from a wheelchair.

  10. J 2.0 Says:

    jvato, well done.

  11. slammin29 Says:

Payton to the Bucs thats just plain stupid, just the thing that Silio likes to start. Say you do trade Josh and pick up manning,he plays for two years maybe three and you make the playoffs all of them then he retiers and thats it.Meanwile Josh tuned out to be a stud and a elite qb thats in he’s mid 20’S and still has ten or eleven more years to play and has done the same that Payton has in his new team but still has ten more years to play….now that would suck, reminds me of Steve Young!! Just plain stupid.

  12. Macabee Says:

Some people just can’t be convinced. When Butch Davis says he’s not a coach, people still believe he’s a coach. When Peyton says he is not going to the NFC, there are those that just won’t accept his own words. Heap see! Few listen!

  13. Buc Fan South Tampa Says:

I respect Dave Moore, but we dont need Peyton Manning. He is a fraud. He will not play in 2012 because he is not healthy. There is a difference from being cleared to play and taking a sack from a 300 pound linebacker. It will be a waste of money to have him come to Tampa

  14. FloridaGirl Says:

I don’t think the fanbase needs the Bucs front office to tell us they aren’t close to being a winner..that was demonstrated clearly enough last year. We have enough holes to fill on the team – we need to save the funds for that instead of buying an old, broken down QB – even though he is great.

  15. J 2.0 Says:

300 pound linebacker??? Holy sh*t I didn’t reallize Levon Kirkland was back in the league!!!

  16. thomas 2.2 Says:

It is unlikely that Payton would be interested in coming here.

It is unlikely that the Glazers would be willing to pay him his value.

But if you want to make the move that gives your team the best shot to be good over the next 2-3 years, you would do everything in your power to make this happen.

Nobody knows what will become of Freeman, sometimes he looks good, other times he doesnt. He is still very raw. The odds of Freeman being 70% of the player that Manning is, is very very low.

Would this compromise your ability to keep Freeman, maybe but to have 3 Glorious years of football many would be willing to take that gamble.

With Free at the helm next year, the qb play is a coin flip.

  17. Josh Says:

No thanks on the 36-year-old with his best years behind him who could be a hit away from retirement.

  18. Traew Says:

In an offseason filled with stupidity, this suggestion takes the cake.

    Wow.

  19. rekooknived Says:

i agree with cmurda. Freemans doing fine. it stupid to say that if we dont sniff them, your telling us we dont want to win. Freeman prooved he could win in 2010.

  20. Phenom4498 Says:

What is this GARBAGE!!!! Is the Tampa media really this stupid?? Are they as stupid and cut throat like the media in NYC?? This is Josh Freeman!! Our guy!! Tampa media DO NOT throw Freeman under the bus like NYC does with Sanchez!!

  21. Ian P. Says:

What makes you think any team is going to give up draft picks for Freeman after the kind of season he just had?
In 2011, in the entire NFL, only Ryan Fitzpatrick threw more INTs.
In fact Freeman’s 16 TDs tied him with Rex Grossman and Matt Moore, and his passer rating is just a hair above Tebow.

I have all the confidence in the world in Freeman, and I fully expect him to rebound, but let’s be honest, he hasn’t exactly been lighting it up lately.

  22. Bobby Says:

It figures that Thomas would be in the same camp as Sileo. ‘Birds of a feather’ and all that…..

  23. MTM Says:

If Peyton was healthy to play and if Freeman could garner some high draft picks. It would make sense to pick him up and make a run. You would be a fool not to think so. Why do you think half the NFL is clamoring for him. So many teams are mediocre at the quarterback position yet have talent it make sense.
But with Peyton’s relationship with Dungy I am sure he was told to steer clear of the Bucs organization.

If Freeman has another bad year and he will be a UFA at the end of 2012. How will Bucs fans feel about passing on Manning then. Just saying.

And yes Joe you baited me with this article.

  24. RustyRhino Says:

If our Defense could only allow 20 points a game or fewer maybe we would get Manning. With the way our defense played last season, I do not think Air Coryell could even keep up with those types of numbers. Call me crazy but when your Defense gives up 400+ points in a 16 game season. The last thing you need is a QB be it Manning or Leaf.
Hard for even the Great Payton Manning to overcome 40 points down at the half. And with the average pass protection we gave to Freeman last season.(who has WAY better wheels than Manning) I could not and would not want to watch Manning get hit on every single play behind our Oline. With Manning’s injury issue still in the grey zone of not being know health status wise. I wish Manning well, but not here. It would be tragic if he came here to get injured again, or maybe even disabled.. Thanks for the many highlights Manning..

  25. eric Says:

I wish the man would retire. What else does he have to prove?

How many neck surgeries and he wants to keep playing?

    Don’t get it.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

Hmm, not to change the subject- but Did you guys hear that Talib is being accused of threatening to shoot a woman, after a traffic accident

    Lmao.

It’s posted in the area sports sections.

  27. Bobby Says:

@Capt Tim….That story smells fishier than Long John Silvers. The police have no record of an accident taking place and the attorney is only suing for $15,000. She just filed now and the accident supposedly took place in 2010. Nah. No fan of Talib but I gotta side with him on this one.

  28. eric Says:

If you see Talib and blount riding in a car together, stay away, faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away.

  29. Pete Dutcher Says:

    bucfanjeff
You took the words from my mouth.

Let me just add…no to Peyton in Tampa, but the people saying “one hit away” should remember that is the same sort of thing that was said about Drew.

Also, Dave made other points that contradicted his Peyton comments. Comparing Freeman to Marino…I could live with that.

  30. tonytwocents Says:

I swear that half of you guys must be 14 year olds just spewing sh!t out your p!ss hole. Dave Moore I can understand – the guy took so many pops to the head he can barely speak.

But seriously, PEYTON TO THE BUCS? This team is trying to build a long lasting contender, and thats not gonna work with a washed up (albeit one time great) QB. Wow….just wow…

  31. GenocideD Says:

    Totally agree, tony.

  32. D-Rome Says:

Why would Manning come here? Who is he going to throw to? The Texans make the most sense for Manning if Houston wants him.
