“Never Met A Coach Who Loved Football As Much”

February 2nd, 2012

Joe’s ears perk up when he hears a nine-year NFL veteran name the most passionate coach he’s ever been around.

Tuesday on The King David Show, on WQYK-AM 1010, Colts middle linebacker Gary Brackett said Bucs coach Greg Schiano oozes love of football like he’s never seen. The Rutgers grad has been with Indianapolis since 2003 and won a Super Bowl ring as a starting linebacker under Father Dungy.

“I never met a coach who loved football as much as Coach Schiano. You know, and that says a lot with the coaches that I’ve been under,” Brackett said. “But a passionate guy, a brilliant football mind and really a fantastic coach, really a players’ coach. I loved him the two years played under him.”

Brackett went on to say Schiano had a lot of success as a recruiter at Rutgers because recruits “can just see the passion. He knows both sides of ball. Just a fantastic coach, a man of God, a Christian guy, so that appeals to a lot of guys. Just a standup guy.”

So what does Brackett remember most about Schiano the coach?

“That’s all he preached when I was there: discipline,” Bracket said. “”Stay in your gaps. If you do your jobs, everything works out.'”

Joe loves the touch-feely concept of Schiano loving football like no other. Joe’s not sure it means much, but Joe’s buying in right now. Joe can only imagine what football-loving Schiano is thinking while watching the 2011 Bucs linebackers on film.

  1. Jrock Says:

He’s thinking “And you paid Quincy HOW MUCH?! Oh, it was a Raheem thing… okay Dom, we just need some competition for this clown”

  2. Number 41 Says:

Stuff like this is exactly why I’m worried — passion and excitement for the game can fire up a kid, but what does it do for a grown man who is paid before the first pad comes on?

  3. LadyJ Says:

Passion and discipline sounds like a good start for us. If he brings that and picks some good ast’s we should start digging out of the mess of last year. Go Buc’s!

  4. TheProsUseAdvoCare Says:

    “….really a players’ coach.”

” If you do your jobs, everything works out.”

Morris was referred to as the same and said the same but I can’t imagine Schiano churning out the same product.

  5. jvato24 Says:

Schiano watching the Bucs LB ….

“HAHAHA … thats funny … But realllly .. Where is the game film from last season ??”

  6. eric Says:

love makes the world go round.

    but tackling wins football games.

im a víctim of the hype cause i feel hes gonna be a big success.

    but im sentimental.

  7. Theodore Says:

For the record, middle linebacker Gary Brackett’s Super Bowl winning Colts were dead last in run defense that year.

  8. FLBoyInDallas Says:

^What an idiotic comment. Trying to make a connection between a Colts defense and Greg Schiano for the purpose of implying some sort of warning or criticism. One player does NOT a connection make. Go away.

  9. stevek Says:

    For the Record Theo,

If 32nd Run D is good enough to go all the way, then who cares.

You are right on though, the Colts are dream to start Fantasy RB’s against.

  10. Bobby Says:

There are NO similarities between Schiano and Morris when it comes to coaching style that I can readily detect. Schiano seems to be all about ‘do your job when you’re asked to do it’ and if you don’t do your job then someone else will be out on the field. He’s an animated guy on the field, probably a lot more than Morris but he’s a no nonsense guy. I just think most people have no idea how difficult it was to come into a program like Rutgers and put that program on the map. It was akin to rebuilding the Marshall football program after the plane crash wiped out the entire team and coaching staff in the early 70’s. A real monumental achievement. His ability to find talent and actually have players going into the NFL year after year…..amazing. It would be like Yale suddenly becoming a top 20 team and cranking out NFL caliber players. “My God Muffie…..could that really happen?” Well….maybe if Schiano was coaching. I think this guy will be a great success if he has the backing and financial support of the Glazers. It’s a good time to be a Buc fan because I think things are going to get exciting for us.

  11. barton1017 Says:

im buying into Shiano just because i wana win!!!!!! i just hope wen he watched last years LB’s he had a trash can to throw up into. does anybody out there have any idea on how to make that mind eraser from Men In Black, cuz i would love to forget last season and move on. PLEASE TAKE RICHARDSON @ 5!!!!!!!!!!!! BUC IT IM OUT

  12. flmike Says:

    @Bobby
I’m with you, my first thoughts about him were, if he can get anyone, let alone a Ray Rice type to go to Rutgers, you have some talent as a motivator and salesman. Then to not only get the talent but then to foster it and then have 3 1st rd picks in 11 years from Rutgers a school who never never had a 1st rd pick. He can spot talent and he can coach it up…

  13. Buczilla Says:

I have to admit I am pretty excited about our new coach. To answer Number 41’s question of how will this translate to grown men who pull a paycheck before playing their first down in the NFL. Hopefully, perfectly well. I think beyond interpersonal relationships, X’s and O’s, and the coordinators he surrounds himself with, it will be imperative for Coach Shiano to establish a “My Way or the Highway” understanding with his players.

Now hear me out. That does not mean he has to be an arse for the sake of being a disciplinarian, but if he has to leave a few casualties laying to prove a point, so be it! I am not talking about third tier players I am talking about a “comfortable” player or two. (Yes Mr. Talib, this could mean you). Once he is down to the guys that share his passion and they all get on the same page and buy into the “Buccaneer Way”, hurdles will fall and the sky should be the limit.

That is not the only reason. Many passionate coaches can eventually lose a locker room no matter how good they are. If this guy shares some of the same genetic blueprint with Bill Bellicheat that many have suggested, no on will ever be “comfortable”. Will they know the coach has their back? Sure. Will they know they damn well better not step out of line? Absolutely! We may part with some players in their prime in the future, but the next piece of the puzzle will slide right into their spot if all goes according to plan.

Maybe I am misreading this guy and the dynamic he brings to my beloved Buccaneers, but I hope not. Either way, I think it is going to be a heck of a ride and the next few seasons should be fun to watch!

  14. Travis Says:

Theodore surely you aren’t implying the impossible…

The Colts run defense sucked BECAUSE Gary Bracket was bad against the run BECAUSE Schiano was a bad defensive coach SO now were going to have the worst run defense BECAUSE Schiano is our HC.

Let me say that again…. surely you aren’t implying the impossible…

  15. bucfanjeff Says:

All the good things I’ve heard is why I have bought in to him…but he can’t coach the whole team. He oversees the team, lays down his philosophy and has the coordinators and position coaches run things with his input. I trust in him to evaluate and find a good staff, but I’m going to continue to preach (and hope) that the main jobs (OC and DC) have SOME NFL experience.

Either way, I’m a Bucs fan and will hope and support for the best of our team.

  16. ClayBURN94 Says:

Ok im really starting to worry that we wont be able to bring in any assistants that we want. Its been way to long for us to not have any assistants hired yet. Especially if schiano already knew who he wanted.

  17. Sensiblebuc Says:

    @Clayburn

While I’m not worried it is a bit disconcerting that we haven’t made one hire yet. Chuck Pagano pretty much has his entire staff in place already with NFL-level guys. Guess this is just one of the downsides of hiring a college guy.

  18. Bobby Says:

I don’t think it has anything to do with hiring a college guy, I think it has to do with hiring a guy who is a former HC and knows what he wants in a staff and how important it is to get it right. If he just wanted to throw a staff together of NFL guys it would be done already. Remember the press conference when he said ‘It’s like a flow chart. If we can get this guy then this guy will work, etc.”
I think he’s going about it the right way. That’s why I said when we hear names it will probably be more than one name.

  19. Buczilla Says:

I don’t know that I buy the college guy wrap. I also have learned to trust the Glazier/Dominick brain trust and their cryptic (and sometimes not so cryptic) messages. They said they would take their time finding a head coach, and lo and behold they did. They said the same thing about picking assistants and filling his staff. Guess what? They weren’t kidding about that either. To borrow a line from Cool Hand Luke, “I don’t like it any more than you men (and women) do…”. Am I concerned that the combine and draft are fast approaching? Sure. Do I think they have a plan? You betcha.

Maybe they are waiting on final word from Butch Davis, maybe they are interviewing candidates like crazy in some secret Glazier Cave (you know they have to have one… The Man U lunatics are always hunting for them), or maybe they just want to make sure that of the thousands of coaches out there that they want the absolute best.

From what I have heard about Coach Schiano he was among the best known and respected coaches in college football, so my guess is that has little if any bearing on the process.

  20. Buczilla Says:

Oh yeah, and what Bobby said!

  21. Pete Dutcher Says:

“I will tolerate you until I can replace you.”

“If you do your jobs, everything works out.”

    Hmmmn…

…more huggy-touchy-feely crap. I want real news, not more of the same.

Schiano will either be good or he won’t be good. I don’t wanna hear people say he will be good, I wanna see him be good.

Maybe I woke up on the wrong side if the bed this morning.

  22. RustyRhino Says:

I hope we Look at Marc Trestman as OC / QB coach. And Butch Davis as DC.

  23. Pete Dutcher Says:

btw, si.com said ours was the worse superbowl of all time. Gave us an F.

And yet, they gave the Falcons superbowl a c-

The falcons game was the ONLY superbowl I could not sit through since I started following football. It was incredibly boring. It even got low ratings at the time.

Yet…ours did not get low ratings.

    Up your, Sports Imitated.

  24. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @RustyRhino

Marc Trestman is no longer available. He took a staff job at a college.

  25. RustyRhino Says:

    That’s to bad

  26. FLBoyInDallas Says:

The fact there hasn’t been a single word about Davis other than speculation the first day after Schiano was hired tells me that Davis probably isn’t in the running. My guess is that he’s gonna take a year or two off and collect his N.C. salary.

Said it before but gonna say it again: my money is on Tomsula as DC and Cristobal as OC. Cristobal just turned down the HC job at Rutgers a few days ago and I’m willing to bet Schiano is talking to him. Tomsula was already interviewed a couple weeks back for a defensive spot and I bet they end up giving him a second interview.

  27. jLM Says:

We should have our first assistant hired by the combine.

  28. Bobby Says:

Look, there is a difference between a ‘players coach’ who knows how to treat players, knows how to communicate but also commands respect and demands accountability and a ‘players coach’ who goes out on the town and parties with the players and tries to be all buddy buddy. This guy is a family man with 4 kids. He ain’t gonna be painting the town with the players late at night. He is a totally different animal when it comes to the term ‘players coach’ and what you associated with Morris. Ultimately, Morris may have done more to lose the team with his off the field antics. You’ll have none of that with Schiano.

  29. Bobby Says:

@Pete…where did you hear that news about Trestman? I can’t find anything about it and it seems odd for a guy who was being interviewed for the HC job at Indianapolis to settle for a staff job at college instead of going back to the CFL.

  30. BucFan20 Says:

Hey FLBoy. Why don’t you go away!! Your no more the supreme dictator here than the one you you think you are on Pewter Report. You think your such a big shot all you like to do is call people names or tell them what to do. Your opinions mean no more than mine or anyone else who wishes to express one.

  31. FLBoyInDallas Says:

BF20: you must be related to old man Horse over at PR. He’s the only one who gets his Fruit O’ The Looms in a bunch like that because of his insecurity and low self esteem. But I haven’t commented more than once or twice on PR in many months so it’s obvious you’re someone who’s been on there a while and who has old grievances from years past.

In any event, just because someone offers strong opinions doesn’t mean they’re dictating to anyone at all. Theodore’s comment was offensive and ridiculous, and I’m not the only person commenting on this article who thinks that.

Personally, I think your reaction sounds childish and immature. Grow up.

  32. eric Says:

    toó bad deán martín passed……..

  33. Joe Says:

    FLBoy:

The fact there hasn’t been a single word about Davis other than speculation the first day after Schiano was hired tells me that Davis probably isn’t in the running.

Read Joe’s article that was posted Monday morning.

  34. Joe Says:

    Pete:

btw, si.com said ours was the worse superbowl of all time. Gave us an F.

So what? Really, so what? Who won the game?

When Joe read that article, he couldn’t believe anyone would get upset with that. Joe was wrong.

  35. BucFan20 Says:

FlBoy. Strong comment has nothing to do with it. Telling someone to go away because YOU don’t like his comment does. you could show respect for fellow posters not act like a PUNK BULLY.

  36. eric Says:

i hear a graduate assistant at southeast chattanooga state has shown promise in the film room.

  37. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Joe, yes I read that article right after you posted it Monday and was excited about the possibility. However, has there been any evidence or have you heard anything through the grapevine about Davis reciprocating that interest? It has to be a two way street and I haven’t heard squat since that time.

If it’s true that the Bucs have the lowest pay in the NFL for assistant coaches then what would Davis gain by giving up his N.C head coach salary for a DC salary for the Bucs? I looked up his contract details and he was owed $933,500 by the end of 2011 (which was already paid by now) and $650,000 per year for the next three years on top of that. That’s a total of $1.95 million still owed for doing absolutely nothing. I suspect the Bucs would have to offer close to $1 million per in order to get his interest. Is that something he could realistically pry from the cold Glazer fingers?

  38. thegregwitul Says:

@Pete Dutcher: The Super Bowl games that graded an F were listed in chronological order. There were multiple games in that F category and really, it’s no big deal. I’d rather score an F because my team was so dominant against the number one rated offense then score a B in a nine point win. This isn’t a knock on the Bucs. Ask any non-fan of Tampa or Oakland and they would probably assign the same grade, that game was over after the first (of many) Gannon turnovers. And the Bucs won, so who cares what the grade is, it’ll always be an A+ for me.

  39. Josh Says:

I think the thing that resonated most with me after watching Schiano’s press conference was when he was talking about each person knowing their job and playing it the best they can. Even if they miss a tackle one of the core beliefs he will be teaching is accountability which means get up and give it your best again. Eventually their best will be better than the other teams if they believe that it will be. Trust was another. Trusting that everyone is giving it their best is the fixer starting in camp. I remember at the end of the season Ronde talking about people letting each other down in their assignments, so again right on track. It will be interesting to see how he can transform a lot of these guys into being humble though. Good times. Go Bucs!

  40. Pete Dutcher Says:

    @Bobby
Shoot, I don’t know..it might have been PFT, but not sure. I could have misread it (I’m known to do that) but I’m pretty certain I read that he had taken a GM-type of position.

Unless it was someone with a similar name. I didn’t read the article, just saw it while browsing.

  41. RustyRhino Says:

    So Marc Trestman might still
    be available, GOOD!!!

  42. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Pete…you’re thinking of Mr. Sweater Vest, Jim Tressel. He took an admin job with Akron yesterday. Marc Trestman is still with Montreal of the CFL and is also training QB Brandon Weeden for the combine.

  43. Capt.Tim Says:

So he loves football? That’s nice. So what?
I love football, too. That doesnt make me an NFL head coach.
I know Bobby is very excited about this guy, even Thomas seems to approve.
But NOTHING in his resume says he is prepared to make this gigantic of a leap! Nothing he’s done is going to give him any kind of credibility with our players! A brief stint as a DBs coach, years ago, isnt going to make him NFL ready- plus he didn’t impress anyone as the Bears Db coach, as no one called him up after he was fired. He had to drop back to lil college ball.

He has an even weaker portfolio than Raheem- who proved to be in way over his head

I’m a Bucs fan. I want him to succeed. But to me, it loos like another inexperienced cheap hire. Next, he’ll be announcing that he’s gonna be OC and DC coordinator. Which sucks, as he has a reputation as a terrible X and Os guy.

I wonder how long the love will last, when we are 0-10, and he is standing on the sideline, looking overwhelmed.

This young team needed a Vetern Coach, with the credentials to bring instant respect to the table. Huge difference in getting young kids to buy in, than getting pros, who have been coached by the biggest names in college football already. Spurrier didn’t get them to buy in to his schemes. He won National championships! How will Schiano, who hasn’t won a championship at any level as a head coach?

I hope I’m wrong. I hope Bobby is right. I just don’t see it.

  44. Sensiblebuc Says:

    @ Cap

Dont let the rage consume you brother!

I don’t get the excitement myself outside of Schiano being a new voice and a new direction. He looks ok on paper and looked pretty good at the presser but the last 3 years with this Organization has taught me that talk is cheap.

    Show me.

  45. Bobby Says:

@Capt. Tim….now you’re just sounding silly. Nothing he’s done to give him credibility with our players??!? How about..there’s nothing our players have done to have any credibility with him! He’s the coach for crying out loud. He will demand their respect or they won’t play for him…period. You’re just not making any sense here Capt. This guy is in charge. They know that and they know they are fighting for their jobs. I don’t know where you’ve worked in the past but unless you own your own business you better give the boss respect or you won’t last long. I have never heard anywhere in any post that this guy doesn’t command respect, as a matter of fact it’s just the opposite. That was just a foolish post. What about his press conference gave you any indication that this guy doesn’t command respect??

  46. Theodore Says:

I’ll never forget this line from SI.com:

“You know something, I’m going to cut it off right here. You can’t blitz Oakland, you can’t play off — might as well not show up. ”

That was Dr. Z explaining why the Bucs can’t win Super Bowl XXXVII. SI can suck it.

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/si_online/news/2003/01/21/drz/

  47. Bobby Says:

Not only that but you’re full of #$$@ on the comment about his being a terrible X’s and O’s guy. You sound like the main stream media with that crap. Really easy to make a statement without backing it up with facts. You wanna be negative…fine but don’t whine and lie at the same time. If you’re not lying then give some quotes and it better be from a reputable source and not just some guys opinion like maybe…..yours.

  48. FLBoyInDallas Says:

First Mate Timmy is at it again with his negativity. Him, Eric and Patrick are pretty much the three stooges of whining around here.

  49. ClayBURN94 Says:

I just want some assistant coaches already…

  50. jvato24 Says:

There is no Way possible this team wont be behind the 8 ball in the draft this year.

The new coaching staff still will have to evaluate the current team … Then FAs … and all the new college prospects. Most teams have a good feeling of their boards already … atleast preliminary

  51. eric Says:

    @CaptainTim

I had the same initial reaction to the hiring.

However, after looking into it I think it may work out,

First of all its not unheard of to jump from college to the pros. Tom Coughlin, for example, jumped from HC at BC to the Jags and has had grand success. Prior to BC he bounced around at various NFl teams only as a position coach, never promoted to a coordinator. Like Schiano he ran a pro style offense and defense at BC, where he only was HC for two years. I think Schiano’s turn around at Rutgers is more impressive than Coughlin’s work at BC.

As for Spurrior, unlike Coughlin and Schiano, he ran a run and gun that simply didnt translate in the NFL. Spurrior also plays head games with his QB’s and if you remember he jumped around from Ramsey to Wourfell and it got pretty ugly. Just not cut out personality wise for NFL.

Petrino and Saban pretty much left NFl because they preferred college. One or both may have made it if they stuck with it.

Ive also heard that Rutgers players are “NFl ready” which speaks well of the system they had there, and Schiano was DC at Miami, another pro-style defensive team.

Lastly i think the youth of our team is a plus for Schiano. THis isnt a veteran team who might look down on a young coach. I wouldnt have hired Schiano to coach the 2002 bucs for example, Sapp and Brooks might have laughed at him. However, this team, with guys who should be emerging with leadership, a guy like Schiano is a good fit. The canvas is blank so to speak.

I feel good about it, but you surely raise very valid points of concern.

  52. Cmurda Says:

Whoa Buczilla. Wow! This brings up the good old days on the Bucs message board a la Superbowl 37. And count me among the optimists like Bobby and Zilla. Love the Schiano hire.

  53. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Schiano has the perfect portfolio:

    Overachieving college player who got a cfl invite;
    Got a job early coaching NFL D Backs;
    Went to a major College program, Miami, and coordinated a defense for years;
    Took a challenge of a head coaching job to resurrect a failing division 1 program at Rutgers;
    Was a Division 1 head coach for 11 years finishing with a ranking as high as #12 in the country (2006, Oklahoma was 11th);

You have 20 years of training both familiarizing himself with the NFL game, coordinating under a NFL style head coach in College and actually heading a program in every executive level for more than a decade.

RahRah was sucking his thumb a decade ago, he never led anything, he had no experience building anything – except of course he built a new word by injecting Y in front of hungry. That was his crowning Buc achievement. Lmao

Schiano has a weaker portfolio than RahRah? Hilarious, sometimes you say the most absurd things. Lol. Did you see the Falcon game? Nobody knew where to go, where to lineup, rah didnt understand elementary football from the head coaching perspective.

Schiano is a perfect hire. Listen I can’t stand the Glazers, and think that Dom is a complete hack, a glorified errand boy – but this is an excellent hire.

  54. Pete Dutcher Says:

I’m casting my vote for Offensive Coordinator on:

    Mark Whipple
He’s currently the QB Coach with the Browns, has worked with Big Ben (whom Freeman is compared to) and as a college head coach, he has gone 121–59.

He knows how to win. He has the right touch of experience, but not so much that he would be offered a head coaching position within a couple years.

121–59 is a pretty good winning record in my book. The Browns aren’t great…but then he does not call plays there.

That’s about all I know about him…but I’d be satisfied with him as OC.

  55. BigMacAttack Says:

    ALERT!!! ALERT!!!

    Paradigm Shift!!!

Capt Tim is a doubting Thomas….

And doubting Thomas is a Capt Team homer.

  56. BigMacAttack Says:

Does Mark Whipple squeeze the Charmin???

    If so, sign him up.

    I know, bad joke.

  57. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Pretty funny Bigmac, especially the doubting Thomas reference.

  58. Cmurda Says:

    Joe said:

btw, si.com said ours was the worse superbowl of all time. Gave us an F.

So what? Really, so what? Who won the game?

When Joe read that article, he couldn’t believe anyone would get upset with that. Joe was wrong.

Cmurda says: Furthermore, WGAF what some DB from SI said. We beat the living crap out of Oakland. It was probably an “F” because we whooped that ass.

  59. Thomas 2.2 Says:

I don’t know what to think about not be included in the class of haters or negatives – except when it comes to Softy – but for some reason the softy criticism strikes a nerve with some of the sensitive homers.

  60. Cmurda Says:

That should have read Joe said:

    Pete

    btw…..

  61. eric Says:

    thats ok thomas 2.0

the super sheep delusional extravaganza known as the nfl draft where rock selects the futurs hall of famers is around the corner

    that should be fun.

then the usual training camp “beasts” followed by the regular seasons reality…

  62. FLBoy84 Says:

Definitely jonesin’ to get some assistants hired, but like that Schiano feels that the coaching staff dynamic is critical to having a cohesive unit. With that in mind, it makes it almost impossible to figure what the final staff will look like. So excited about the change though, just picked up season tickets again a few days ago.

  63. BigMacAttack Says:

This may be the year that we really get a Beast in the Draft, but I hope RG3 is on the board at 5 and the Bucs trade back a few spots to draft a LB like Upshaw or Hightower, maybe both. I think Clayborn Beasted pretty well last Season. Bowers also Beasted his way back later in the Season.

Here goes T2. GMC is a Total Beast inside…..

  64. Capt.Tim Says:

BigMacAttack- wow, ya cut me deep with that one! I at least hope I’m wrong! Lol

  65. Rrsrq Says:

    @pete
Mark Whipple no way, he was at Miami and reminded me of Greg Olson, panics when team is down, will not pound the rock at all, I was elated when he was fired from the U. That hire would break my heart. Like many of you, I do want to hear something about a hire

  66. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

Bobby and FlBoyinDallas- excuse me, but weren’t you two the same guys that said I was full of %#** last spring, when I said we would have a losing record this year? And the same two that said I was full of %^#* when I said that cutting Ruud and Caddy would cause both Offense and Defense to suck?
And the same two that said I was full of %*#+ when I said we’d have a winning record the year before?

Sorry boys, you got no credibility when betting against the Capt. Instead of licking up that bowl of Glazer Stew, you ought to read up on our new head coach. What has he ever won? Not conference or division titles. Not rings. Nada as a head coach. Bad X and O guy isn’t my opinion- it’s straight out of a scouting report on him. Just like his reputation for not being able to adapt during games. Educate yourselves- the truth is out there

Won nothing. Tiny bit of NFL experience years ago, that impressed no one. If he was a hot commodity, he would have gotten another NFL offer when he was let go- didn’t happen. Only head coach experience is .500 ball at a tiny school- where he never managed to win the Big east title- which isn’t exactly stocked with juggernauts.

Our young guys flat quit on another over his head coach- with more big league hours logged than this guy.

But you keep blowing his horn if you want. He had a nice press conference. Whoppee! So does the Mayor of Lakeland, who has almost as much NFL experience. The guys real Strenght is said to be recruiting and motivating.
Well, I doubt recruiting will help us much, and we’ll see if motivating Multimillionaires is as easy as motivating so 17 year old kid

But just keep sopping up the stew. If you two are right, I’ll buy the bread and join you, after saying how wrong I was!! I hope so

But I seldom am. Looks like another cheap hire, over his head coach that will get gnawed on by our unruly young players

Good luck too him. I honestly hope you guys don’t get your heart Broke again. I am ready to see some winning football. Think I’m gonna be disappointed again

  67. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

I give. I’ve written 3 different responses, none of which posted. That’s getting to be really annoying, as I find it difficult to be that witty 3 consecutive times. What, is “the Family” starting to censor JoeBuc responses?

  68. Stevek Says:

    @ señor 2.2:

    “A glorified errand boy”
    LMFAO, good one.

Next article for the pessimist, please Joe…

Bucs “glorified errand boy” general manager….

  69. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

Oh no! Now my last comment is awaiting moderation!

    It has begun.

    Cue “The Godfather” music

I hope I don’t see any fresh cement around the house!

  70. BigMacAttack Says:

Sorry Skipper, had to do it, just for laughs.

    You’re right about “We’ll see”.

They are sure moving slow with these choices and that may not be a good thing, but I’ll give them a little rope.

  71. Willard Says:

    LOL.

From 2009-2011, Thomas was the ultimate Raheem hater

Now Capt. Tim is ultimate Schiano hater!

    This is hilarious.

  72. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

I don’t hate the guy. I think he was doing a good job at Rutgers. It’s just way to big of a leap. Who knows, given time, he may be able to do it.

But we don’t need another apprentice head Coach. Yet that’s what we got

  73. Bulldog Says:

Capt. , I find it ironic that there aren’t assistants falling over them selves to be associated with this 1st choice of a HC hire…I’M STOKED that there is SO much positive heartfelt feelings over this coach..I LOVE that he LOVES football so much..That’s a change..I know almost every coach the Bucs have had really just tolerate football..And to think the Girls almost hired Chip first. Give it to the Bucs to go after their 2nd choice first then swoop in with this slam dunk. True Stealth technology. I am not usually so pessimistic. But nothing about this whole coaching search has gone well ,,,,,,yet ? Yes, I still hold out that something good this way comes…at least a spec of hope remains. Despite how the Bucs are viewed by their peers.. Funny it’s not the fans who are crying CHEAP now. That’s a big help I bet.

  74. BigMacAttack Says:

I just noticed the “2.2” at the end of “Capt Tim”. That’s pretty funny. This is going to be a long long long off season.

  75. Pete Dutcher Says:

I don’t completely agree with Capt.Tim, but I’ll admit to a certain level of nervousness in regard to the Schiano hire.

Part of me is like “oh no, they hired a college coach!”

The other part of me is like “God, this guy reminds me so much of Billicheat!”

In the end, I have to wait and see if this is a mistake before I pass judgement…which is what I think Capt. Tim should do.

However…as it stands, Capt Tim has a 50% chance of being right. And if he turns out right he gets to brag about it like he bragged above. Those are not bad odds.

Let me just say this…Capt. Tim and I had our share of disagreements over the last few years…though not recently. I mean, there was a time when we went for each others throats. However…I’ve figure out that right or wrong, we both love the Bucs. The same cannot be said for the hate mongering Thomas 2.2, who slipped up a few weeks ago in a post and hinted that he wasn’t really a Bucs fan (and he never even realized it).

  76. Bobby Says:

@Capt. Tim…I wasn’t on board with letting Caddy go but I was and still am on board with the Ruud move. You can’t ell me with a straight face that Ruud was the difference in the defense falling apart this year. That’s absurd. As far as predicting a losing season this year….what kind of dick would predict a losing season for the Bucs after we came off of a 10-6 year. I predicted us at 9-7 because of our schedule but thought we might do better if the defense gelled. Turns out you were right. Way to call it.. ‘Buc Fan’…..(rolleyes) I guess it’s too much to ask for a little optimism?

  77. Pete Dutcher Says:

I’m not going to make a prediction for the new season…new coach, new system…it could go either way.

  78. Bobby Says:

I’ll make a prediction. I’m going to predict that we are competitive in every single game. No one is going to roll us like they did last year. I say we go 9-7 this year. Look for a playoff run in 2013.

  79. Capt.Tim 2.2 Says:

Pete- despite our disagreements, I have also respected you and your opinions. If we thought the same, it’d NE pretty boring here.

Which is my point to Bobby. I didn’t jump out the gate predicting a losing season. After the draft, I thought we could easily make the playoffs! As I said then- if we sign a LBer, LG, And starting CB, we will rock!

But instead, we did nothing to adress these gaping holes.Instead, we futher weakened the team by releasing two experienced team captains! Zuttah did a decent job, but teams feasted on our piss poor LBers and secondary. Obvious problems- totally ignored by The Rockstar.

Yet know some of us suddenly believe he is capable of finding our savior at coach?? Nah, he found another cheap option
